Removal of Sheikh Hasina from Bangladesh, takeaways and opportunities for Pakistan

Hasina let minorities flourish in BD. Ofcourse pakistanis didn't like it.

They also didn't like the fact that BD was getting ahead economically.
Bangladeshis never liked her. That's why she is gone

They dumped the Indian stooge and Bangladeshi has told India to take a hike.

These Indians have this delusion Hasina was popular. If that was the case, why did she escape like a dog? She was 20-25 minutes away from potentially getting publicly lynched.

These Indians should learn real facts instead of relying on BJP WhatsApp University (BWU).

Hasina was illegally in power for almost a decade.

Bangladeshis voted her to power multiple times. Pakistanis didn't like her because she supported minorities.

Bangladeshis voted her to power multiple times. Pakistanis didn't like her because she supported minorities.

After 2009, all were rigged elections.

What does an Indian know about Bangladeshi elections?

If she was popular, why was there a protest and why did she have to flee? LOL. Use your brain for once.

Vast majority of the Bangladeshis don't want Hasina.

I know some Indians dream about Hasina returning to power and being their good puppet.

But, that is unlikely to happen. Dr. Yunus is likely to stay on for a while. After that, BNP or another party is likely to come to power. I just hope modern day BNP hasn't been compromised by India. We need an India-free party in charge. If needed, partnership with with China and Pakistan need to be strengthened.

Awami League is finished. Their student wing has been declared a terrorist organization (Bangladesh Chatra League).

Indians should focus on their own country and leave Bangladeshi affairs to Bangladeshis. Who gets to be the PM of Bangladesh is to be determined by Bangladeshis. Indians have no say in it.

Question is why are Indians so concerned about who is the PM in BD? Why do they care? They care because Hasina was letting India exploit/oppress Bangladesh. Once Hasina left, India's good time in BD stopped.

Bangladesh should kick out all Indian RAW agents from BD. Also, all imports from India should be replaced with imports from other countries (China particularly).

Actually I do not blame Indians over here for being such delusional regarding Bangladesh. It is their media which done a huge dis-service for them in this and others incidents.

Most of the reasonable Indians do not know that, under Hasina:

1. Philkhana massacre happened orchestrated by her party, which killed our 67 millitary officers, which turn all millitary institutions against Hasina govt. The fact that they did not organize a coup for the past 16 years and court marshall her, shows how much self-restrained they have and honoured the so called democracy that her goverment was bestowed.

2. Orchestrating Shapla massacre in 2013, which killed of thousands of people, among them hundreds of children were present within just one night.

3. Orchestrating three dummy elections, almost without any opposition for three times (2013, 2018(this one especially infamous as the one which were completed in the night before the election day with dummy votes) and 2024). All the international medias reported these farce except for India.

4. Thousands of people were kidnapped and then killed of without any trials under her regime. Many people which were imprisoned in secret cells (now known as Aynaa Ghor, situated in hundreds location throughout the entire country), are coming out and re-telling their inhumane experiances to the country now.

5. Spreading huge amount of corruptions in the society. Indians are misinformed that there was a huge economic developments under her regime in Bangladesh:
a. first, all the economic statitstics and developments are falsely spreaded by her regime throughout the world.

b. Her entire regime have stolen almost 250 billions of dollars from the nation through money laundering. This is not the final figures, as more fraud cases are coming out everyday. Just think about this for a while, in a third world nation, losing 250 billions dollars through corruption, how will that nation will able to stand on its feet again.

c. Not putting National interest ahead when communicating with foreign economic interests. Like refusing Saudi Arabia's offer of huge foreign investment on becoming a big mineral hub for the entire region, or refusing to big investment from Samsung to open a new development site in the country.

d. Entering into imbalance treaty (Ambani power treaty) with Indian Govt. which ultimately harms the national interest. This one incident turn the entire nation against India and after India's support to the dummy election in Jan 2024, Indian product's boycott was initiated in Bangladesh. So Hasina and her regime was responsible to cause deteriotion of historically good relationship among the people of Bangladesh and India.

6. Orchestrating July massacre last year, killing of 2000 and mortally harmed or wounded 15000-20000 of our childrens, which eventually ousted her regime once and all for.

After all these, how can the people of Bangladesh will accept Hasina again, is beyond me. The entire world except India have correctly understood this fact and move forward without Hasina and her party. India on the other hand, have failed to acknowledge the changing scenario and accept the fact that Hasina and her govt. is not coming back in Bangladesh anymore.

In this process, they are just destroying the last remaining good will that Bangladesh people have towards India due to their collaboration with our independence. Mark my word from a decade later, Indians scholar will blame the India's current failed foreign policy and media to let Bangladesh slipped into a hostile nation from a good friend.

Well said, brother.

Very detailed and factually correct.

India will also become a hostile nation to Bangladesh in that case. Which nation do you think will be more harmed in that case?

And that probe mentioned in the article happened under islamist Muhammad Yunus, someone who is baying for Hasina's blood.
Tbf you can't call Dr Yunus an Islamist. He is hated by Islamists for his microcredit business models. He also supports Lgbtq rights

India will also become a hostile nation to Bangladesh in that case. Which nation do you think will be more harmed in that case?
Yes Bangladesh will be harmed, no doubt about that. But for development purposes both nations needs to be in cordeal relationship which cannot be achieved by wish and effort of only one nation, where else the other one's keep a one sided, insensitive and mis-informed view regarding the other one.

Most importantly, for the very reason that India helped Bangladesh to gain independence in 1971, that would turned to futile and ineffective in the future. In such case, which nation has got more to lose then?

I personally think Bangladesh should suspend all trades with India until India stop meddling in Bangladeshi internal affairs and until India decide to have fairer trades with Bangladesh.

All things Bangladesh import from India, they can get those from other countries and probably for better rates.

Well, it's not the first time that India is witnessing an unfriendly government in Bangladesh. It happened back when Mujib was removed by a military coup. It happened again when Khaleda Zia of the BNP was the PM. It's happening again now. Any of these is better than having (East) Pakistan instead, so the independence of Bangladesh has made sense long term.

I also have a hunch - without much proof - that the Indian side was clued in on the removal of Sheikh Hasina. I don't think it was an utter bolt from the blue.

I beg to differ that apart from BNP reign from 2001-2006, none of the anti-Awamileague era were anti-India. Just because they did not provide Indian authority with royal treatment or follow Indian policy to the t does not mean plotting against India. They just placed National interest above others in terms of policy.

Even now Dr. Younis said multiple times that he wants a normal relationship with India. But it is India who have been un-friendly over here from the moment of the fall of Hasina Govt. They were the one who refused the request to meet on highest level. They are spreading mis-information throughout the world(recently UK parliament withdraw report critising current Bangladesh regime over 'Bias') against Bangladesh. And they are supporting and giving asylum to the head of the fascist Govt whose trial is currently running in Bangladesh under UN Security.

As for your hunch, seeing the reaction of the entire Indian authority and media, I do not think India had any idea that Hasina would be removed in such a fashion even at the very end.

Your rebels are now vandalizing women's football tournaments. This after Bangladesh women's tram being the Saff champion. Also vandalizing majars of Sufi saints, Lalan followers etc.

That's not the rebels bro, that's the infamous Awamileague student cadre called Chattro League by media report. They are quite famous(infamous) in Banglades, you know. During Hasina govt. they had unchecked license to do whatever they wanted, rape, vandalise, kidnap, killing, extortion etc.

After revolution, our govt. were kind enough to let them of, thinking that they will mend their ways, after all they were our own children. But as you can see, they are creating problems from within in favour of fallen Awamileague regime. If the July rebels did wanted to take them off, they would have been hunted down like dogs, exactly the same way they did during July and August time. But normal people and our govt. has restrained them, telling them to tolerate them as much as possible. Since this is a interim govt. and not elected by population, the entire world is keeping an eye on us. The govt. or the biggest support of the govt. - students, cannot take drastic action that may soil their international support from the foreign power.

I know chhatro league has been involved in some clashes with BNP. But I have seen the reports of the people vandalizing the football tournament or the majars. Nowhere is it mentioned that they are chhatro league.

I personally believe these Awami League members do not deserve kindness after what they have done from 2009 till 2024. Some of them should get death penalties.

Just like Germany banned Nazi Party after WW2, Bangladesh should also ban Awami League. They were the Nazis of Bangladesh.

All support to Sheikh Hasina ji. She’s the real Iron woman of Bangla.

There's definitely something in the Indian water, every politician touches down and suddenly turns into a Bollywood villain. Even the cricket team's like, 'We will see you from India'. Bro, you came here to play cricket, not declare war. Chill before the flight crew starts issuing threats too

US money behind the Islamist rebel movement in Bangladesh where we saw terrorists take over the country and go on a rampage against minority groups and liberal leaders. After the US Aid is cut , hopefully democratic non Islamist forces will strengthen in Bangladesh.

You Indians have zero idea what happened in BD.

Trump himself said US didn't do regime change in BD:

Country’s trade with Bangladesh surpasses $1bn: report

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Mohammad Iqbal Hussain Khan has revealed that the bilateral trade between the two countries has surpassed $1 billion, a recent news report said.

The envoy, while speaking to The News, said that the trade between the two sides was bound to increase, as the countries remained keen on enhancing cooperation.

The two countries have witnessed a thaw in ties after the ouster of India-aligned premier Sheikh Hasina.

In the years since the split, Dhaka’s leaders — especially the recently ousted regime of Sheikh Hasina — stayed firmly in the Indian camp, preferring to maintain close ties with New Delhi and keeping Islamabad at arm’s length.

However, ever since a popular uprising that saw Hasina’s government toppled in August, there has been a thaw in ties between the two capitals, with trade and bilateral relations seeing a marked improvement.

Hasina was replaced by Nobel laureate Yunus, who has expressed interest in maintaining cordial ties with Pakistan. During his interaction with the PM Shehbaz, the Bangladeshi leader had highlighted the need to “settle” matters and “move forward”.

In January, the envoy had also announced that direct flights between the two countries were expected to begin within the next few months, highlighting Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening business partnerships with Pakistan, emphasising the ease of obtaining Bangladeshi visas online for Pakistani citizens.

The report also cited Khan as saying that there was a “great demand” for Pakistani products in Bangladesh, while Pakistan, too, benefits from Bangladeshi products.

He termed the restoration of trade after 15 years between the two countries as “satisfying”, highlighting the demand for Pakistani cotton, sugar, rice, apparel, and fruits — such as mangoes — in Bangladesh.

He added that Bangladesh could export pineapple, jute, pharmaceuticals, and garments to Pakistan.

The high commissioner also said that the “sky is the limit for increasing cooperation and trade between the two countries.”

The report also said that Pakistan “exported the first consignment of rice to Bangladesh amounting to 26,000 metric tons through its national carrier, the first such export in about two decades”.

The new agreement, finalised earlier this month, sees Bangladesh purchasing white rice from Pakistan at $499 per tonne through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan. The shipment will be delivered in two phases, with the remaining 25,000 tonnes expected in early March.

However, the price of rice is higher than that of rice from Vietnam, which Bangladesh has been importing at $474.25 per tonne.

Bangladesh has been battling to stabilise the rice market, as prices have risen by 15-20 per cent in recent months, with medium-quality rice selling at around 80 taka ($0.66) per kilo.

To control rice prices, Bangladesh is importing more rice from international markets, including through tenders, and has scrapped import duties.

Great to see.

BD should stop all trades with India. There are so many other options (Pakistan, Sri Lanka, China, Thailand, gulf states, Russia etc.).

Pakistan, Bangladesh have enormous opportunities to increase cooperation: Gilani

Pakistan and Bangladesh have enormous opportunities to increase cooperation in the areas of trade, economy, culture, health, education, and people-to-people linkages for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

This was stated at a meeting between acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan Mohammad Iqbal Hussain Khan who called on him at Aiwan-i-Sadr on Saturday.

During the meeting, it was emphasised to improve air linkages and shipping connections between Pakistan and Bangladesh to enhance bilateral trade as well as increase people-to-people linkages.

The acting president said that there was great potential to enhance education, health, agriculture and cultural cooperation between the two countries. He called for making efforts to further increase people-to-people and cultural exchanges to bring the two countries closer.

He expressed satisfaction that an MoU on the supply of white rice from Pakistan to Bangladesh had been signed which would help increase bilateral trade.

He said that Pakistan greatly valued its relations with Bangladesh which were based on common faith, shared history and cultural similarities.

He remarked that the Chief Adviser of the government of Bangladesh Professor Mohammad Yunus was widely respected in Pakistan for his path-breaking work in the field of micro-finance and social development.

The high commissioner highlighted the potential of increasing relations in the area of health and tourism. He said Bangladeshi students were also interested in getting higher education in Pakistani universities.

Meanwhile, the acting president affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further boosting cooperation with the Czech Republic in areas of mutual interest.

He said both countries needed to explore greater cooperation in the areas of trade, renewable energy, business and investment, health, parliamentary cooperation, education and people-to-people linkages.

Mr Gilani was talking to the ambassador of the Czech Republic to Pakistan Ladislav Steinhubel.

He said that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with the Czech Republic, and both countries enjoyed long-standing ties and held common views at various international fora.

He stated that Czech businesses should visit Pakistan to explore investment opportunities, adding that trade between Pakistan and the Czech Republic needed to be increased to its fullest potential.

He emphasised the need to further deepen bilateral engagement in the areas of economy, culture, and people-to-people contacts.

He also urged the need for easing the visa regime for Pakistani students wanting to study in Czech universities to enhance educational cooperation between the two countries.

He also appreciated the support of the Czech Republic for Pakistan’s candidature for the non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for 2025-26.

The ambassador of the Czech Republic said that his country wanted to expand cooperation with Pakistan in trade, business, health and energy sectors.

He expressed interest in exporting Pakistani mangoes to the Czech Republic.

The ambassador said the prime minister of the Czech Republic would visit Islamabad in May 2025.

The acting president said Pakistan looked forward to welcoming the Czech prime minister and expressed confidence that the visit would help in further enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

The ambassador also offered condolences over the loss of lives in the recent terrorist attack on Jaffar Express.

DAWN NEWS

Since there is so much bonhomie between and Bangladesh, also Yunus and his gang literally erased the legacy of late Mujibur Rahman, as well as they both are sitting in the lap of same daddy China, there are all the reasons for these two countries to reunite. This way BD will get the nukes and Pak can get to heat up both the eastern and western flank of India.

Just came here to say that despite the tensions between Bharat and Bangladesh, every Bharatiya man considers Haseena ji her Aunty.

Great to see.

BD should stop all trades with India. There are so many other options (Pakistan, Sri Lanka, China, Thailand, gulf states, Russia etc.).

With all due respect, you have zero sense of reality. Such emotional rants make this discussion silly & worthless. Prof. Yunus's government, with all its anti-india rhetoric, is importing from India more than the previous government. You cannot just overlook & avoid a trillion dollar neighbouring economy because of its religious inclination. If India were a muslim majority nation, Im quite sure, you would've found ways to justify every Indian action towards Bangladesh.

Can ypu respond to post 758 and 759? Are you detached from reality or something?

Dr Yunus should stay in power for as long as needed. Majority of Bangladesh is with him and so is the military. That was proven when Hasina was made to flee like a dog back in August of 2024.

Awami League is unlikely to win next election as majority of Bangladeshis don't support them. It is likely going to be BNP or NCP to win the next election.

May Dr Yunus stay healthy and keep doing good things. Hasina can rot in India or get hanged in BD; it's her choice.

As a matter of fact, I propose banning Awami League completely. Their student wing (Chatra League) was declared a terrorist organization a few months ago.

Dr Yunus is not some lalloo illiterate chaiwala. He is well-respected worldwide and has connections worldwide. He has good diplomatic relations with many powerful people, unlike Hasina who is mostly allied with chaiwala Modi. Hasina is practically Modi's unofficial mistress. :inti

These Hasina's cockroaches are trying very hard. All of their plans have failed so far. Alhamdulillah. May they never return.

All these cockroaches need to be detained. :inti

They should surrender and give up. They are digging a bigger hole for themselves. :inti

Bangladesh ex-PM Sheikh Hasina accused of plotting to overthrow govt

The latest case centres on a virtual meeting attended by nearly 600 Awami League members in December, which police said had conspired to "wage civil war in Bangladesh"

Bangladeshi police said on Friday (March 28, 2025) they had filed a new criminal case against ousted premier Sheikh Hasina over an alleged plot to overthrow the government that replaced her.

Ms. Hasina is currently exiled in India, her regime's biggest patron and benefactor, after she was overthrown in a student-led revolution last August.

Numerous criminal indictments have been issued against her and top loyalists of her Awami League party, including over a crackdown by security forces that killed hundreds of demonstrators during last year's unrest.

The latest case centres on a virtual meeting attended by nearly 600 Awami League members in December, which police said had conspired to "wage civil war in Bangladesh" with the aim of restoring Ms. Hasina to power.

"Many of them, both inside and outside the country, pledged to continue their fight until their last breath," the case documents stated.

Police spokesman Jasim Uddin Khan told AFP that charges had initially been filed against Ms. Hasina and 72 others, but that the number of defendants may increase as the investigation progressed.

"The number of participants in the virtual meeting was 577. We are investigating their roles, and if found complicit in the conspiracy, they will be charged," he said.

A report from the U.N. rights office earlier this year stated that Ms. Hasina's government was responsible for systematic attacks and killings of protesters as it attempted to hold onto power last year.

Bangladesh is currently being led by an interim administration with Nobel peace laureate Muhammad Yunus, 84, at the helm.

His caretaker government is tasked with implementing democratic reforms ahead of fresh elections slated to take place by June 2026.

So Hasina chapter is over now?

Indian prime minister met with the head of Bangladesh’s interim government on the sidelines of a regional summit in Bangkok on Friday, the Bangladesh government’s press office said, their first meeting since the ouster of Bangladeshi premier Sheikh Hasina last year

Relations between the South Asian neighbours, which were robust under Hasina, have deteriorated since she fled the country in August in the face of massive student-led protests and sought shelter in India.

Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel Peace Prize winner who took over as the chief adviser of an interim government in Dhaka after Hasina’s exit, met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the fringes of the BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok, the press office said.

BIMSTEC, or the Bay of Bengal initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation, also includes Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.

On Friday, Yunus posted a picture on social media showing him shaking hands with Modi, and his press secretary Shafiqul Alam later said the “meeting was constructive, productive, and fruitful”.

Yunus shared a photograph of the two men smiling as he handed Modi a framed picture of themselves a decade ago — when the Indian leader in 2015 honoured the micro-finance pioneer with a gold medal for this work supporting the poorest of society.

There was no immediate statement from New Delhi.

Yunus, according to his press secretary, also raised with Modi the issue of Dhaka’s long-running complaint at what it says are Hasina’s incendiary remarks from exile.

Dhaka has requested that India allow Hasina’s extradition to face charges of crimes against humanity for the killing of hundreds of protesters during the unrest that toppled her government.

Public opinion in Bangladesh turned against India, in part, for its decision to provide sanctuary to Hasina. New Delhi has not responded to Dhaka’s request to send her home for trial.

Yunus also raised concerns of border violence along the porous frontier with India, as well as issues of the shared river waters that flow from India, as the Ganges and the Brahmaputra wind towards the sea.

India has repeatedly urged Bangladesh to protect its minority Hindus, saying they were being targeted in the Muslim-majority country since Yunus took charge. Dhaka says the violence has been exaggerated and is not a communal issue.

Hasina chapter was over on August 05, 2024 (the date Hasina fleed like a dog).

Bangladeshi people let Hasina and Awami League know they were not wanted. They are unlikely to return.

Next BD government is likely going to be BNP or NCP. I hope it is NCP. NCP is the new party formed by the students who overthrew Hasina. :inti
