What's new

Rishabh Pant (101) puts India in control, close Day 2 on 294/7 with lead of 89 runs over England

Pant should look for big shots now. No point blocking...you will get out eventually.

What is the issue with Pant decision? As per the rules, that was out and you can't blame umpires for rules.

Why? Pitch has a true bounce and if anything umpire was proven correct. It was not plumb missed by the umpire.

He was standing practically on his stumps and hit infront. Umprire knew that giving that out wud be huge on situation of the game.

This is worst thing about these bio secure tours every where is the poor home umpiring. Has happened in few series across world now.

In uk during WI and Pak umpires barring gough were just as bad.

The whole umpires call is effected more when the original call is a poor one from umpires who are suppose to be neutral.

Marginal my foot. Pitched in line, no bat on it, would have clipped top of leg pole. Umpire’s Call law seems to mean “confirm wrong decisions”. It should be scrapped.

Do you complain about it only when decisions go against England because England have been saved by umpires call plenty of times too. Umpires call is primarily because the trajectory is not 100 % certain AFAIK.

My point was the on field umpire should have given it out in 1st place. I understand the umpires call rule. But the onfield umpire is saving his career and indias shot at WTC. Am sure he will get indias highest recognition after the game.
:facepalm if that's the case then he wouldn't have given Rohit out first place..

That is hardly anything to complain about. It's not like umpires know that it is a marginal decision and giving it in favour of the home team. If the umpires could make that out ccurately with the naked eye in the first place, there would be no need for DRS at all.

We will take lead....dont forget we bat till no.11. Ishant probably has better technique than Pujara/Rahane against spin.

No we don't. I'd be pleasantly surprised if Ishant and Siraj score more than 10 together.

This is the first time I have heard anyone say ball tracking is not certain. Gary Powers was shot down with a surface to air missile in 1960 at a height of 100,000 feet, ESA can land a space probe on a comet out there past Mars and doing 30,000 mph in 2016, but in 2021 tracking technology is uncertain at a range of one metre. I don’t buy it.

Truth to tell, this is the first series I have watched live since this umpire’s call rule was introduced. It seems the wrong way for cricket to go. If Rohit was shown not out on ball tracking, then the third ump should have overruled the field ump.

Rohit's dismissal
Umpire's call on two counts. Yet we have some :uak here

If that had been the otherway round with an england batsmen the indian umpires finger would have gone up straight away.

Anything as close as umpires call is not poor. Indians will call it poor if it goes against them and Eng will call it poor if it goes against them. But it's simply not poor. It is simply fans feeling frustrated.

Point is umpires call has saved English batsmen too. So it evens out.

Rohit was given out when impact was 90% off.

Ashwin was given out caught behind when the ball was miles away from the bat..

Please quit your whining.

Given the nature of the pitches I think the on field umpiring in general been excellent, it's the third umpires who have been poor at times.

Bess is a liability in this form, shame that cricket doesn’t allow the super-sub anymore.

Where are you when gill & Sharma given out on umpire call ??

Some people's always cry no matter what .when pitch is good now they're crying about umpire call but forgot England who get some call in own favour

I would agree with this.

Though this is the best pitch of the series by a long way.

Anyhoo. Pant is batting responsibly and this is an excellent tight match.

Where did onfield umpire think the ball was going with pant decision?

Over the stumps?

Down the leg side?

We aint in perth or gabba where bounce is huge. 2ndly he was right back on his stumps.

This was **** poor decision by the onfield umpire.

Even DRS showed ball 2 be hitting part of 2 stumps.

I didn’t see that wicket - I presume it was going over the top? In which case third ump should have overturned the decision.

50 for Pant. Well played. Such a crucial innings this.

It was never about England's lead. Their batsmen need to get it together and score 220-250. When you're playing 8 batsmen, anything under 200 is poor batting.

For India, they need these two to keep going and along with Patel, get them a 100 runs lead.

Pant has really reined himself in during this innings.

England thrown an advantage after tea session. Unless Dominic Sibley and Ollie Pope hits fifties, I don't think England stand a chance in this test.

Impressive by Pant. I had him pegged as a T20 slogdonkey but he has batted responsibly.

This session will pretty much win game for india here interms of momentum.

Pant will take game away completely if hes still there close of play.
