Shadab Khan and Yasir Shah performance watch in BBL for Brisbane Heat

The Brisbane Heat picked both Pakistani premier leg spinners for the upcoming BBL7.

Shadab Khan was picked as Overseas international pick while as Yasir Shah got picked as Overseas replacement player which means he will either replace McCullum or Shadab incase they leave for national duties but will remain part of squad and train with Brisbane Heat all the time. With Baz having already retired it means Yasir will replace Shadab when he joins Pakistan team for NZ tour. So it is almost confirmed that one among Shadab or Yasir will represent Brisbane in every match only if they don't play a local player instead of Shadab or Yasir.

Shadab has established himself in LOIs and so has Yasir in Tests.

Would like that both of them learn from this league and will like to see Yasir work on some other deliveries apart from his conventional leg spinner.

As do I as we saw that Yasir Shah wasn't successful last time Pakistan were down under. Also hopefully will benefit Shadab as conditions not dissimilar from NZ where he will be playing at the start of 2018.

MEET Shadab Khan– the Pakistani teenager who has been tipped to throw the Big Bash League into a spin.

Khan will make his BBL debut for the Brisbane Heat in Wednesday’s tournament opener against the Melbourne Stars at the Gabba.

The 19-year-old is one of the world’s most promising Twenty20 bowlers, catching the eye of Heat skipper Brendon McCullum and coach Dan Vettori.


He made his Test, one-day international and T20 international debuts this year and is expected to be an X-factor for the Heat in the three matches he has been signed to play.

“I’m very excited about Shadab,” said McCullum after signing a two-year contract extension with the Heat.

“I played with him (in the Caribbean Premier League) and followed his career around the globe.

‘‘He’s only a young man but he’s already made a big impact on world cricket.

“He is a multi-skilled cricketer. He is dynamic in the field and has been brilliant with the bat in hand.

“I’m sure the Brisbane public will warm to him.”

The Heat were well serviced by leggies Samuel Badree and Mitch Swepson last summer, prompting Vettori to sign Khan for the start of the tournament.

Khan, who will be replaced by Pakistan Test spinner Yasir Shah later in the tournament, said it was a dream to play in Australia.

“Last year I saw the Big Bash on the TV and now I’m playing,” he said.

“I’ll play the first three games and I want to be the best bowler in those games. I’ve seen on TV that Australia doesn’t spin too much so I’ll do my best to bowl variations to contain runs and take wickets.”

The Heat are sweating on the availability of star batsman Chris Lynn.

Lynn, recovering from a shoulder reconstruction, did not play either of the Heat’s two practice matches against the Renegades on the Sunshine Coast over the weekend.

The reigning player of the tournament is desperate to play in the first match, but McCullum said the Heat were reluctant to risk their most lethal batsman.

“It’s hard because you don’t win the competition in mid-December, you win it late January,” McCullum said.

“We’re hopeful he’ll play but if not, there are some guys who are pretty exciting players in their own right.

‘‘They have watched Lynny play over a number of years.”

If Lynn plays against the Stars, McCullum admitted he would be restricted in the field.

They’re different bowlers. It would be hard for Shadab to emulate Ahmed’s style of bowling. Shadab is quicker through the air and imparts less revs on the ball, consequently getting less spin.

You have misunderstood my post. I was referring to skill-set, as opposed to the art itself.

See, you have written "if they're similar to you" whilst referring to their art (ie legspin, left arm seam) when I was in fact referring to their skill-set/ability within that art (ie how different legspinners bowl differently and can learn from one another).

Now re-read my post, and you will see where your misunderstanding crept in.

This is why you incorrectly use an analogy of a left arm pacer and a right arm pacer when the discussion was about two bowlers in the same discipline. I was making precisely the point they can learn from one another even though they go about their art (legspin) differently.

In any case, this is getting a little tedious. Read my original post, and you'll see it wasn't exactly controversial.

I’m just pointing out that Shadab trying to bowl in the manner in which Fawad did would only result in a good old phainty. Shadab needs to be fuller due to his pace, and stick to his strengths which are his variations.

Shadab's second and fourth over were good but the 1st and 3rd overs were dreadful. It was his first time in Australia so Shadab can be forgiven but I don't think Shadab can bowl at 90+ kph in Australia and get away with it. In Australia, he has to bowl at a speed of 83-84 kph, give loop and draw batsmen forward. For a couple of deliveries today he did exactly that and beat Stoinis comprehensively. The moment he went to his 90+ kph stuff he got smacked. Swepson at the other end bowled beautifully without luck. He looped the ball much more than Shadab. Shadab should pick up these nuances and he'll be a handful.

If u compare Rashid's yesterday spell and Shaddy this one then Shadab's was better . What makes me agitated is comparing Shadab with Swepson.
What has really helped Rashid's confidence is that he has played IPL and his game has improved a lot after that.
To me Rashid has become a T20 mercenary and I don't want Shadab to go that way.
Both are doing great job for their respective countries and I pray that both keep on improving and perform even more better.

1.Rashid played the whole Afghan T20 tournament back in september and won the tournament captaining his team.

The ALOKOZAY AHMAD SHAH ABDALI TOURNAMENT is concluded. None of the Afghanistan national team players took part, so Rashid Khan is not an exception to the rule.

Rashid does more good in BBL then he would have done in domestic cricket back home. He received a lot of media attention and ultimately the Afghanistan cricket benefits from this. They get to show the world what kind of talent they are capable of producing.

As I said the reason he plays so much more T20 league is because of lack of fixture for Afghanistan.
