The Brisbane Heat picked both Pakistani premier leg spinners for the upcoming BBL7.

Shadab Khan was picked as Overseas international pick while as Yasir Shah got picked as Overseas replacement player which means he will either replace McCullum or Shadab incase they leave for national duties but will remain part of squad and train with Brisbane Heat all the time. With Baz having already retired it means Yasir will replace Shadab when he joins Pakistan team for NZ tour. So it is almost confirmed that one among Shadab or Yasir will represent Brisbane in every match only if they don't play a local player instead of Shadab or Yasir.

Shadab has established himself in LOIs and so has Yasir in Tests.

Would like that both of them learn from this league and will like to see Yasir work on some other deliveries apart from his conventional leg spinner.

I expect Shadab Khan to outdo Yasir Shah with ease.

Will be a great experience for Shadab and Yasir can also learn how to bowl well on those Australian wickets.Wish to see them both perform.

As do I as we saw that Yasir Shah wasn't successful last time Pakistan were down under. Also hopefully will benefit Shadab as conditions not dissimilar from NZ where he will be playing at the start of 2018.

Excellent for shadab to get some experience in Aus which will help him immensly

MEET Shadab Khan
– the Pakistani teenager who has been tipped to throw the Big Bash League into a spin.

Khan will make his BBL debut for the Brisbane Heat in Wednesday’s tournament opener against the Melbourne Stars at the Gabba.

The 19-year-old is one of the world’s most promising Twenty20 bowlers, catching the eye of Heat skipper Brendon McCullum and coach Dan Vettori.

He made his Test, one-day international and T20 international debuts this year and is expected to be an X-factor for the Heat in the three matches he has been signed to play.

“I’m very excited about Shadab,” said McCullum after signing a two-year contract extension with the Heat.

“I played with him (in the Caribbean Premier League) and followed his career around the globe.

‘‘He’s only a young man but he’s already made a big impact on world cricket.

“He is a multi-skilled cricketer. He is dynamic in the field and has been brilliant with the bat in hand.

“I’m sure the Brisbane public will warm to him.”

The Heat were well serviced by leggies Samuel Badree and Mitch Swepson last summer, prompting Vettori to sign Khan for the start of the tournament.

Khan, who will be replaced by Pakistan Test spinner Yasir Shah later in the tournament, said it was a dream to play in Australia.

“Last year I saw the Big Bash on the TV and now I’m playing,” he said.

“I’ll play the first three games and I want to be the best bowler in those games. I’ve seen on TV that Australia doesn’t spin too much so I’ll do my best to bowl variations to contain runs and take wickets.”

The Heat are sweating on the availability of star batsman Chris Lynn.

Lynn, recovering from a shoulder reconstruction, did not play either of the Heat’s two practice matches against the Renegades on the Sunshine Coast over the weekend.

The reigning player of the tournament is desperate to play in the first match, but McCullum said the Heat were reluctant to risk their most lethal batsman.

“It’s hard because you don’t win the competition in mid-December, you win it late January,” McCullum said.

“We’re hopeful he’ll play but if not, there are some guys who are pretty exciting players in their own right.

‘‘They have watched Lynny play over a number of years.”

If Lynn plays against the Stars, McCullum admitted he would be restricted in the field.

So He will play only 3 matches.. Yasir will probably get more games

If there's an issue with Chris Lynn then I hope they look at some Pakistan batters. Would think that Faheem Ashraf or even Shoaib Malik would be well suited to the BBL.

I hope Shadab watched Fawad's spell today to get an idea of the right length/speed.

Shadab is only available for three matches and didn’t partake in the warm up matches, so I would keep the expectations low.

They’re different bowlers. It would be hard for Shadab to emulate Ahmed’s style of bowling. Shadab is quicker through the air and imparts less revs on the ball, consequently getting less spin.

So you only learn from people who do things exactly the way you do them?

What's there to learn in that case?

His point is obviously to optimize what makes you a good bowler by improving via learning from someone performing to a high degree with a method that is similar enough for you to directly relate to and learn from. Mitchell Johnson could have learnt a lot from Waqar Younis, but OBVIOUSLY, a left arm quick would look more to Wasim Akram as a source for a more direct and relatable comparison at a high benchmark.

Your analogy doesn't work because we are discussing two right arm leg-spinners.

My point should have been rather obvious. If someone has a different way of bowling your art (in this case, legspin) you should use it as an opportunity to learn things from him.

Secondly, Shadab has never bowled in Australia so he should look at where Fawad and other Australian legspinners bowl in the shorter format.

Thirdly, Fawad is more experienced and may be able to pass some knowledge on, not least because they speak the same language so it will be easier for them to communicate.

I never disputed your point was incorrect, he indeed can learn from Fawad, but saying "So you only learn from people who do things exactly the way you do them?" makes next to no sense because the more similar someone is, the easier it is learn and incorporate those tiny adjustments and relate to them.

"What's there to learn in that case?'

If they're similar to you but performing to a standard you wish to? Quite a bit actually.

You have misunderstood my post. I was referring to skill-set, as opposed to the art itself.

See, you have written "if they're similar to you" whilst referring to their art (ie legspin, left arm seam) when I was in fact referring to their skill-set/ability within that art (ie how different legspinners bowl differently and can learn from one another).

Now re-read my post, and you will see where your misunderstanding crept in.

This is why you incorrectly use an analogy of a left arm pacer and a right arm pacer when the discussion was about two bowlers in the same discipline. I was making precisely the point they can learn from one another even though they go about their art (legspin) differently.

In any case, this is getting a little tedious. Read my original post, and you'll see it wasn't exactly controversial.

It will be interesting to see how Yasir goes. Shadab plays a lot of ODI's and T20's so he should be fine in Australia. I saw couple of leggies yesterday troubling batsmen in BBL.

I’m just pointing out that Shadab trying to bowl in the manner in which Fawad did would only result in a good old phainty. Shadab needs to be fuller due to his pace, and stick to his strengths which are his variations.

Shadabs team batting first...

Heat XI: Brendon McCullum (c), James Peirson (wk), Sam Heazlett, Joe Burns, Alex Ross, Ben Cutting, Shadab Khan, Mark Steketee, Josh Lalor, Brendon Doggett, Mitch Swepson

According to Gilchrist, Vettori recruited Shadab based off a highlights video he saw on the internet :))

Commentators also mentioned KP didn't remember Shadab, despite the fact he has been dismissed by him.

Shadab has been expenxive from the scorecard but most importantly he got 2 wickets in a high scoring game..let see.but his last over may be the turning point of the game.

Shadab's second and fourth over were good but the 1st and 3rd overs were dreadful. It was his first time in Australia so Shadab can be forgiven but I don't think Shadab can bowl at 90+ kph in Australia and get away with it. In Australia, he has to bowl at a speed of 83-84 kph, give loop and draw batsmen forward. For a couple of deliveries today he did exactly that and beat Stoinis comprehensively. The moment he went to his 90+ kph stuff he got smacked. Swepson at the other end bowled beautifully without luck. He looped the ball much more than Shadab. Shadab should pick up these nuances and he'll be a handful.

The other leggie bowled better

That's hardly surprising considering that Swepson is used to bowling in Australia while Shadab was bowling at the Gabba for the first time though.

Shadab has shown to be a quick learner so it'll be interesting to see his progress. Bowled a lot of short deliveries today.

It was decent outing for Shadab. He was clueless against Stoinis. Bowled brilliantly to rest of the batsman.

First time playing in Australia and performed decently, I have to say he did go for quite some runs but at the end of the day did take two important wickets.

His run rate was standard for the match & he took 2 top order wickets. Ok debut, looks like he'll adapt quite well.

Round 2 for Shadab today, hopefully learnt a thing or two from the first game. Want to see him get a go with the bat too.

Good to see him doing well with the ball!

Shaddy was Brilliant today. Showed that he is miles above other leg spinners in BBL. It was ridiculous when ppl were saying Swepson is better than him.
Unfortunately was undone by Hogg wrongun in batting.
Hoping that he signs off with a bang

He is definitely not better than Rashid Khan.

He is definitely not better than Rashid Khan.

Look man Rashid has played lot more than Shadab overall.
If u compare Rashid's yesterday spell and Shaddy this one then Shadab's was better . What makes me agitated is comparing Shadab with Swepson.
What has really helped Rashid's confidence is that he has played IPL and his game has improved a lot after that.
To me Rashid has become a T20 mercenary and I don't want Shadab to go that way.
Both are doing great job for their respective countries and I pray that both keep on improving and perform even more better.

BAZ :- I told Shadab i need a wicket, he told me he will try and next bowl he bowled him (Harris)

Rashid is a T20 Mercenary because Afghanistan play 10% cricket of that of Pakistan.
It's only a problem if he skip International for domestic T20 like the WI players.

Nice to see Shadab doing well. When is his next match?

Face the Sydney Heat on the 27th.

Wonderful to see the improvement in Shadab after a game, got his length and pace much better, unfortunate not to get the crucial wicket of White in his last over.

This is not what we are discussing but Rashid isn't playing domestics, ALOKOZAY AHMAD SHAH ABDALI TOURNAMENT which is premier First Class tournament of Afghanistan is underway and Rashid isn't playing there and is in Australia.
Like i said we are not discussing that, bcz i dont have any problems with that.
Shadab also played 3-4 matches in Nat T20 Cup and then went missing.

1.Rashid played the whole Afghan T20 tournament back in september and won the tournament captaining his team.

The ALOKOZAY AHMAD SHAH ABDALI TOURNAMENT is concluded. None of the Afghanistan national team players took part, so Rashid Khan is not an exception to the rule.

Rashid does more good in BBL then he would have done in domestic cricket back home. He received a lot of media attention and ultimately the Afghanistan cricket benefits from this. They get to show the world what kind of talent they are capable of producing.

As I said the reason he plays so much more T20 league is because of lack of fixture for Afghanistan.

Lols, at first glance I thought the guy with glasses was Shadab. Must be the captain Hasan Khan no?

Crazy how he seems to be McCullum's go to option already 2 games in. Kid's gonna be a superstar.

Shadab's got a perfect captain for his development. Hopefully he plays more under Baz!!!

Takes out Watson ! What a star this guy is

Shadab Khan continues to impress at the #BBL07 with another fine outing for his side Brisbane Heat vs Syndey Thunder as he takes 2 wickets (Jos Buttler & Shane Watson) for 27 runs #Cricket

Well that's probably his last match in the BBL, hope BAZ taught him a thing or two about bowling in NZ conditions.
