Shakib Al Hasan Appreciation Thread

Meh, 4 shakibs won't do us much good.

We need a Dale Steyn and a Clarke, then we can dream of being the top team

Top all rounder in all 3 formats right now!

Man of the match in today's Big Bash League too.

He is the best Allrounder ever excelled from Greater Bangla/Bangladesh. A very dedicated player who achieved more and will keep going. He reacts sharply according to the situation. It seems like he got a game plan what most of the BD players specially BD bowlers lack badly.

No disrespect to the great Imran Khan. Here's something that I found on facebook which looked interesting and wanted to share :butt

Imranistas incoming . . . . . .

Anyhow, Shakib is top class. Comfortably the best all-rounder in the game today, and could have been one of the greats of the game had he played for a non-minnow.

Deserved to play for Pakistan/India/Sri Lanka.

Very poor tour so far with the bat.

Against Australian School Kids - 14, 2

In Aussie conditions, he seems to struggle. Let's see how he performs against Pakistan and Ireland.

Always been his fan

Class for almost a decade now

Always been his fan

Class for almost a decade now

But fans says he lacks impact or whatever nonsense he is so he is average.

Also he performs against minnows which NZ and SA clearly are

He is the best all rounder of his generation

He will end as an ATG of the game inshaAllah

Hes been a very good all rounder for bangladesh The best player they have ever produced

However you would have to say that his stats are inflated a little with bangaldesh playing more than their fare share against the minnow teams of their era

He is in some form this World Cup. Showing his class and made a fantastic ton. It was important in the context of nrr as Bangladesh would have been bowled out for 150 if they went for it and harmed their nrr. This could be vital if they can win enough games.

Objectively where does Shakib rank?

Amongst AT ODI AR's and amongst Asian AR (ODIs primarily). 6000 runs now, a mountain of wickets.

For me, he makes the AT Asian ODI XI.

Rohit
SRT
VK
Sanga
Miandad
Dhoni +
Shakib
Khan *
Akram
Waqar
Murali

Prett tough. #1,2,3,6,8,9,11 pick themselves. I'd say #7 too.

Only Sanga and Javed are really up for replacement.

This WC, his stature seems to be growing. If he continues like this, he will be an ODI ATG. Will be in my XI for any matches in Asia.

He has been magnificent in this World Cup. The third best player after Rohit and Root in my view.

Love watching this guy bat. Wonderful combination in his batting of orthodox shots and power-hitting.

Now the leading scorer at the World Cup.

Second greatest allrounder from Asia after Imran Khan. What a player.

Not sure about the second best after Imran but he is the best allrounder from Asia currently. He is a impact player and he has proved that in this world cup so far. Shakib and Holder both don't get the appreciation they deserve. :inti

One of the most valuable ODI players in the world at present, easily among top 5.

Shakib deserves to be rated among the best players in the world including Virat, Starc

What a player, what a fighter, what a legend Shakib is. Kept the hope alive in BD fans throughout his career & now BD fans are getting the fruits of long long years of patience. I am sure if things keep going that way for BD, they will be among top 4 teams in couple of years. I hope Shakib is still there in WC23.

This is the stage where players can earn millions of fans around the world. Boy, Shakib has certainly won the hearts of millions so far at WC19.

Shakib has already broken the records of great allrounder.

This tournament performance puts him among the greatest cricketers

If this guy was English or Australian he'd be called second coming of Sobers.

Congratulations Shakib Al Hasan on another WC ton, and the 6k runs milestone.

Executioner, I have been reading your views since last 7 years. You truly represent BD fan base. Whenever I watch BD match, I remember you more than once during the match & today I was so happy thinking of you doing jumping & dance :)

There were people on this forum laughing that he was batting number 3, even after his first 2 innings!

I wasn't laughing, but still think he should bat at 5. He is in tremendous form, but he always play with a bit of risk that doesn't suit No. 3. Ideally, Liton-Soumya should open, Tamim at 3 and may be now Shakib at 4, because Mushi needs egg treatment (& bat at 5). Shakib is the leading all-rounder of the game and I want him to be like that - No. 3 should be the spot for most complete batsman of the team.

Haha thank you bro. I was definitely jumping.

Shakib is arguably the best batsman in the team, with due respect to Mushfiqur and Tamim. He can bat wherever he wants.

Shakib has entered the conversation for GOAT ODI all-rounder off of his performance in the World Cup. He is the Player of the Tournament so far. By the end of his career he will probably go down as the greatest ODI all-rounder of all time.

Guy looks like he is on a one man mission to take his team up there this WC. SRH benching him throughout the IPL19 must have fired him up.

Its laughable that some people thought he was inferior to the likes of Mohd Nabi and Rashid Khan lol....

Guy looks like he is on a one man mission to take his team up there this WC. SRH benching him throughout the IPL19 must have fired him up.

He doesn't care about IPL tbh. Already won it a couple of times.

He isn't exactly too useful in IPL given the fact that Indians are good players of spin and he doesn't get to bat in the top order where he is more suited. I think any true cricket fan would not think twice before rating Shakib among the greatest allrounders in the world if you consider all formats, T20, ODIs and Tests. He is good in all formats and has been so for over a decade. However, he doesnt get the due recognition he deserves.

Shakib didn't just break some of the allrounder records. He smashed them. He has been a true genuine allrounder. He is good enough to play as a batsman in many teams, and good enough to play as a bowler(maybe not in SENA). His fielding is world class. But he hardly ever got the recognition he deserves. True, he underperformed in foreign leagues. But in international cricket he has been the best. BUT one thing that was missing was performance in the World Stage. Taking 5 wickets and scoring nearly 400 runs in 4 matches, he has already shown the world what he is.

Like any great player, Shakib low-key wants to be rated among the best of the best. This world cup was the ideal platform for him. He is at his peak - 32 years old.

Shakib's value in cricket is probably higher than any cricketer playing currently. He is not only a class batsman, but also a class bowler. A no. 3 batsman who also bowls like a specialist. A truly 2-in-1 player. When you are up against Bangladesh, its like you play against a team of 12 players.

He needs to improve his bowling and pick a 5fer, never settle - One plus

Also still not a double ton after repeated chances at 3, disappointing.

Shakib has been raising the bar every time as of now .He is in supreme form and is at the peak of his career. Huge appreciations to him for that.
But to be the GOAT ODI all rounder he has to surpass the likes of Afridi, Jayasurya, Klusener, Imran & Kapil which is still a tall order.

He should end up as greatest spin AR in cricket history.

He is already better than Afridi.

His average difference is atleast 5 more than the 2nd best player on both list. Definitely best spin bowling AR ever. Stats speak for itself

He is already better than Afridi.

we have to take into account the eras both these players are playing in. Afridi played in a full decade earlier than Shakib. So Afridi's batting stats (23.57,117.0) would be lot more in numerical values in this era.Take note a str: of 117!!! His figures would come around to 28,140 0f now a days. Also keep in mind str: has more or less the same importance as avg: in ODIs.

But the same applies to bowling too and Shakib is a better bowler to Afridi though.

Any way, my core point is that we can't easily place one over the other either way with out taking into account the era differences they played in and evaluating their plain stats based on these factors.

Shakib is having a purple patch, let's see how he does against genuine world contenders like Bumrah, Starc and Amir. This is the real test, it's now or in Shere Bangla :shakib

this don't make much sense , i am afraid. For instance take Ashwin & Shakib in tests .They differ in bat avg: by 10.51 in favour of Shakib. But Ashwin leads Shakib by 5.86 in bowling. If we take 25 as a great bowling avg: and 50 as a great batting avg: in test(which is the norm) 1 difference in bowl avg: equals 2 in batting avg: .That means in batting terms Ashwin leads by 5.86*2 = 11.72 from Shakib.
I am not telling that Ashwin is a better test all rounder than Shakib, because to determine that, several other factors need to analysed and evaluated. Only telling that plain difference in avg: don't make much
sense.

In test only Ashwin has merit to compete against him because he is better bowler than Shakib. But Ashwin's batting had degraded quite a bit of late so gap might increase further with time.
In ODI , there is no close contender against Shakib. Gayle , Tendulkar , Hooper even Yuvraj were essentially part timers.

You have already accepted that Shakib is a better bowler.

Lets look at the batting performance. Afridi averages 23.4 at a strike rate of 120ish. Was it amazing? Yes but back in the 90s. His performance between 2003-2015 was barely anything to write home about and he often got his team into a hole. Shakib had to often singlehandedly take his team out of trouble with bat. He has 9 ODI centuries and 8 of them if I am not mistaken have come in winning causes. Afridi had these wonderful performances here and there but was vastly inconsistent and even the biggest afridi fan would admit Afridi has often given away the advantage to the opposition.

Afridi in a way had a similar role as Andre Russell. Russell in ODIs has been substandard. SR is 130 but if you actually followed this world cup you'd know Dre Russ has given away the advantage to the opposition. Hafeez is a better allrounder than Afridi full stop.

Also, bear in mind Shakib plays tests and is among the leading performers there. So I think regardless of time periods, shakib absolutely mops the floor with afridi

That is a different way to think about it. The thing about the average difference is, it shows how much runs you are contributing to the team subtracted by the average rruns for which you dismiss the batsman. Its a case of net value. You win a match using top batsmen and top bowlers. Your net runs scored should be more than the net runs scored against you. When the same cricketer has a net positive average then that means he is doing an excellent job. You could discount one aspect of someone's game if he is not a regular - such would be the case with Kallis 00s but Shakib had to play a big role with bat and ball in BOTH formats and he is on top in BOTH formats. I think there is enough evidence for that. Ashwin played important role for India too with both disciplines as well.

Dont see Ashwin getting picked for India anytime soon unless the novelty factor of Kuldeep and Chahal wear out. India are doing really well with these two spinners and Ashwin's batting is honestly mediocre, I would go with Hardik as the no. 7 and allround option.

Shakib is already the greatest ever Spin bowling allrounder in T20Is and ODIs. Maybe if he continues to perform might end up as greatest ODI allrounder ever.

Shakib has made his mark. Even casual fans now know how good he is. He will go down as an ATG all rounder. Comfortably the best player from Bangladesh so far and best apin bowling AR to have played the game. For me he surpasses Jayasuriya as spin bowling AR.

I did not meant that Afridi is cent percent a better one day all rounder to Shakib. I would like to correct
a few things from what I earlier told too. My mistake.....that 28,140. 140 is taking it too far, would come around 130 though. Similarly I meant Shakib 'has every chance of, ' not surely is better' to Afridi in ODI bowling.

I am not going deep into the details of their stats, but when some one has a str: of 117, it is only natural that he would have played a lot of cameos like '25 ball 40s' that would have highly influenced
matches, noo? Keep in mind str: rate is just as important as avg: in ODIs.

Again I just feel the difference in plain avg: doesn't make much sense. Any way , each to their own

For tests Ashwin will still be first choice pick on India or spin friendly conditions. India will go with spin trio of Ashwin , Jadeja and Kuldeep on Indian and similar pitches.

Come on man that is a bit over the top, Jaysuriya won Srilanka the world cup. His spin bowling was like a bullet and he started the trend in 1996 with his bullying along with Kalu

I was initially against Shakib at 3. Wanted him to remain at the heart of the battinf order, number 5. But I was also open to trying new things, him at 3. Am not typic one set minded, so I was still u sure vut thought let’s see if he can prove it at 3. I must say, he is perfect for number 3 in this BD team there’s no one close to him at being as good as him at the number 3. He has proved me wrong and proved his batting worth for this crucial number at 3. He looks much more mature, sensible in his approach and shots selection, 4scores of 50 over, with one 100 in this wc already.

You can’t not be ever thinking about him not suited for 3. Bangladesh has no other options. I thought once, Mushy would’ve been a good try at 3 due his decent sensibility, good strike rotation, technique. But Mushy doesn’t seems to want it.

Shakib has sealed number 3 for BD. And They have been looking for a number 3 in ODI for long time.

We bangladeshis already knew he was one of the best ever, just was not getting the due credit in international arena. They always ignored his good performances. Now after THIS extraordinary performance at last world is giving attention.

It's close, Jayasuriya will always be remembered as a pioneer who changed cricket forever. However Shakiv is having a phenomenal world cup himself and has been consistent throughout.

Maybe we can start a threat and when someone posts stats it will be clear.

Right. Afridi has more runs and wickets..only player to have 7000 runs and 450 wickets. 2 more wickets would have put him at 8000 runs and 400 wickets. this will never be replicated

You forgot to say how many millions of matches and years Afridi played?

Take in the amount of matches of stages, from certain amount. You’ll see who’s far ahead.

Shakib Al Hasan in ODIs in 2019:

51, 41, 124*, 121, 64, 75, 50*, 29, 61*

9 Innings
616 Runs
2 Hundreds
5 Fifties
102.67 average
98.25 strike-rate

He is a superstar. He is a great AR. In the Imran/Kallis class. Better than Dev, Hadlee etc *as an AR*.
