Shaun Pollock hailed Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman of his generation whereas Michael Holding rated Sir Vivian Richards as the best in the history of the game.

Former South Africa skipper Shaun Pollock has rated India legend Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman of his generation.

Pollock hailed Sachin Tendulkar's understanding of the game and his adjustability in various situations.

"It was how well he understood his game and how he would adjust. He talked to me once about going to Australia and understanding he couldn’t take on the short-pitched deliveries anymore so he would ramp the ball over the wicketkeeper and slip," Pollock told Sky Sports.

Interestingly, Pollock had dismissed Sachin Tendulkar nine times in the ODIs, and ranks 4th in the list of bowlers with maximum Tendulkar dismissals.

"There were times, especially in the subcontinent, where you thought, 'I’m not sure we can knock this guy over”. ‘We were hoping he would make a mistake, rather than had a genuine plan.’

Sachin amassed the most runs in both Tests and ODIs, scoring 100 centuries internationally, which is 29 more than second-placed Rick Ponting.

Former Windies pacer Michael Holding has rated fellow West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards as the best batsman in the history of the game.

Holding, one of the game’s great fast bowlers, played alongside Sir Viv Richards for over a decade and believes he is unsurpassed as a batsman.

"Viv is the best batsman I have seen against anything and everything," Holding told Sky Sports.

"He never looked intimidated. Richard Hadlee in New Zealand, Dennis Lillee in Australia, Abdul Qadir in Pakistan, Bishan Bedi in India. Ian Botham in England. He got runs against anybody and everybody.

"As he was batting at No 3 for West Indies, I often saw him watch the first couple of overs, get a visual picture, and then go and sleep."

Shane Warne Picks 'best' Between Viv Richards, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara & Virat Kohli

Warne had no doubts at all when he picked Sir Vivan Richards as the best batsman he has ever seen but said that Virat Kohli is getting better than the legend

Australia's spin wizard Shane Warne had no doubts at all when he picked Sir Vivan Richards as the best batsman he has ever seen but admitted that Virat Kohli is getting better than the legend himself. There have often been comparisons between the Indian run maestro and the West Indies legend. Virat Kohli idolizes his 'Big Boss' Sir Viv Richards and the latter too has admitted that the Indian skipper is the best in the business across all formats of the game. Australia's Warne feels that Virat Kohli is not far off behind Viv Richards and expects him to go past the legend one day.

'Just the best'

Speaking live on his Instagram handle, Warne revealed that while Viv Richards was the best batsman he had ever seen, Virat Kohli was soon catching up. Warne said that the Indian skipper was constantly pushing the debate as to who was better and said that it was tough to believe someone was better than the legend but Virat Kohli is on his way n doing so. Warne also picked Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara as the best batters he has played with.

Picking a best in any category is all about checking the boxes. And Sachin definitely checks most boxes compared to his counterparts. Was he the best batsman facing short pitched deliveries? No. But he scored runs despite that in conditions that favored short pitch bowling.

As a cricket lover, it took me years to accept but he certainly was the best of his time. Period.

Lol whats with you and starting a thread about Sachin's greatness atleast once a year. Used to be 3-4 times a year before so i guess better now.

why are you so insecure with Sachin's status in the game? Theres literally no need since he clearly top 5 batsmen of all time.

Not at all. I barely create threads. And this is a thread on Tendulkar from me since a very long time. Just felt like creating this thread when I read it. And if I were really insecure, I wouldn't have posted Shane Warne picking Viv Richards as the greatest batsman he ever saw.

Some of the threads by you on Sachin which a 10 second search reveals. However what the funniest thing is that a lot of your Sachin threads have been merged into others (I remember from time as mod when you were doing it every 2 weeks) so this is not the actual number :))

Maybe like the Modi Mega Thread we need a Hitman's Sachin Tribute Mega Thread! :)))

I meant lately. I have created lots of them in the past, but barely any lately. I got over my obsession a long time ago. Can you find me a few ones I have created in the last couple of years?

Here was my reply to you -

anyways on topic Sachin is obv a great of the game.

I personally rated/liked Ponting more just because he was:a) more exciting to watch (loved his pull shot), and b) punished Pakistan way more than Sachin and very ruthlessly. However Sachin's record is for all to see and has very little blemishes esp in Tests so I think its fair to say he is the best over a 15-20 year period.

Interesting angle and seems to be correct as well.

To be the best , you do need to perform in all conditions and against all kind of oppositions for a long period. It's not about being the best against spin or pace or doing well only when conditions favours you. Many of us think that way, but rarely see anyone expressing it as clearly as PP did here.

Sachin was arguably the greatest all-round batsmen of all-time. He has scored hundreds and big hundreds across all conditions and against all kinds of bowling.

The only drawback he had in his career was that he was not ruthless in his game, i.e., hitting 500-600 runs in a series. However, in a cricketing sense completely, a better batsmen than Tendulkar hasn't been born yet taking both the formats into consideration.
