Shoaib Malik Support & Performance Watch

Should Malik be in the plans for the 2019 WC?

So far Malik has scored 22.22% ducks of all the ducks in this series. :P

Nope. After Hafeez's ban they wanted that off-spin allrounder. It basically what got Malik back in the ODI's as well.

That's why Misbah requested Azhar and Waqar to test out Bilal Asif. But Bilal then got reported and they went for Malik.

This is what I was talking about. This is what Malik fans use to as an excuse for his failiure with the bat.

Malik has performed in 1 of 5 innings. And he has been this sort of batsman all his life.

People can't be using his bowling as an excuse to get him off his issues with the bat.

Hafeez also suffers from the same issue, albeit not in flat tracks of UAE.

With this logic Adil Rasheed will be saying guys I am not a good bowler but I am a very good lower order bat so excuse my bad bowling.

You have to identify roles.

Malik's bowling is useful, but his batting is the REASON he is in the team.

And he CANNOT be saying I perform with both bat and ball. Because he is doing none of either fully, but some of each.

He should stick to Odi's and t20's if he wants to continue on with this mentality.

Hopefully, the last that we've seen of Malik in whites. A bits and pieces player who has no business being in the test squad of the #2 team in the world.

Let's see what he does in the LOI formats. :danish

Thats true and Pak needs his batting more, but it doesnt change the fact that he got his comeback thanks to HAfeez's ban.

What? Is he really retiring from test cricket?

A forgettable match for SM. I am sure this is going to hurt his future prospect. PAK cricket is all about instant decision - if YK can make an ODI comeback for his Test performance, I 'll not be surprised to see Malik dropped from ODI/T20 for his Test performance.

PAK doesn't have any Test in UAE in 1+ year : smart tips for Malik - man, retire from Test, at least temporarily, if you want to play CT2017.

However, he was under bowled in 4th innings, probably because Babar bowled exceptionally tight & pacers did give vital break throughs. At this rate, Malik 'll be stuck to a specialist No. 3 ONLY role - scary, very scary situation (if I were in Malik's shoe).

I think he reads your posts, bro. :14:

Shoaib Malik's aggregate before his 245 at Abu Dhabi...

63 runs in 5 inns @ 12.60

after

47 runs in 5 inns @ 9.40

Classy stuff from Malik. A true team player, he knows he was becoming a burden, so he made the right choice.

A certain someone could learn a lot from him :yk2

I think he reads your posts, bro. :14:

Malik has lots of short comings, but street smartness is not one of them. He knows that Misbah is not going to put him anywhere but 1, 2 or 3 and that's very scary proposition. Also, if he is to bowl 35 overs/Test regularly, his action might be exposed.

I wrote it several times - last time they made him Captain for 3 formats, it cost him 5 years; if he wants to play next 3/4 ICC events, he had to protect himself from Test No. 3.

However, respect should be given where due - based on his 245, he could have played the BD series & probably would have scored enough to your ENG at least as Test player, AND I am sure almost every PAK player would have done (actually did & doing) that. This guy has minimum self respect, which should be appreciated.

that is called poetic justice!!!!!! :)

BZ welcome back brother..... !

I feel that SM should bat at #3 so he can guide the inning.

whatever position, but he shud come before misbah and YK.

So...... you hero himself ran away from #3 ... and all those years you kept whining that Misbah does not play him in upper order!

I am looking for a few gems where you said..... Malik is better than Hanif ... in upper order! :)

I think, today is not the best day for such shenanigans. Right, wrong, deserving or not - Malik was a Test Captain for PAK & left Test arena with his head held high, before getting dropped.

Also, fan base are built on emotion - I am sure lot of Malik fan are sad today, but proud as well. At least he is not doing a Miandad, Kapil, WY, ARazzak, MoYo, YK or Afridi staff, though most of them were/are far better cricketer than him.

I stopped posting in this thread for the utter rubbishes discussed here - probably with 1 slap Malik reminded few people "apna auqat maat bhulna".

At the end of the day, we spend time here for fun - what 'll be left, if visiting a thread becomes dejecting.

or at the moment...

By the way.... welcome back... this thread missed you.

You have been posting series stats, here are updated ones.

Thanks

Avg of ~50 in this series is excellent considering this is his first ever series in UAE and he had not played the longer format for a while. (We must not forget that he was picked as a bowler, but I am disregarding his bowling contribution atm)

My problem with the team management is that you just do not fill the most import slot (#3) who got no match experience...
and problem with Malik that he should have refused to bat at #3 if he feels that he was not ready...(same thing happened when pak toured endland)

66% of single digit runs at #3 not acceptable... but you would agree that it's management's fault ...

Great post bro. Feeling really sad but at the same time I am happy that Malik has not prolonged hiis career uselessly and he is stepping down so that we can develop our youngsters

I think it was ODI...

However, #1,2,3 positions are specialized positions and require some preparations..

obviously he would adjust and excel at whatever position he plays...
main point is not to make Malik successful, point is to optimize the team's performance...

Sad day indeed...I have similar feeling at the retirement of inzi...(on that day, SM had tears in his eyes)

on positive note, he will now more focus on other formats...

Sad day. One of the most mis-managed cricketers has had to finally give up. Poor management has cost us yet another top career. But the greatest thing is he has left with his head held high. 4 wickets today and possibly may have spun Pakistan to victory. So sad to hear of his retirement, but it was the correct call. I think any genius would have gone with Malik at 6, and Shafiq at #3. But its done now.

245 in your last test series, 4 wickets and now hopefully a victory. Retirement on his own terms. Well done Shoaib Malik.

I mentioned earlier that history doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme.

The two greatest batsmen ever were both dismissed without scoring in their final test innings.

The most iconic image of his Test career - one that would be embedded in Pakistan cricket history.

Looks like a true battle-hardenered warrior who took upon the challenge (of batting at 3) for his team and prevailed like a champion.

The bandana, the facial hair, the streak of grey hair in his sideburns and the sweat on his face - straight out of the spirit of Pakistan cricket of the 1980's.

Only if there was a packed crowd in the background instead of the green field.

Unfortunately, within the next 12 months the curtain of reality will be brought down on them too.

Make the most of the time you have with him, the prognosis isn't great.

If it wasn't a dead flat track in the middle of nowhere with basically no audience it would have been memorable.

Undeniably, but isn't this picture iconic and memorable for you? I'm surprised.

memorable? Not really, not a Malik supporter and his innings' after this were disappointing

Iconic? When thinking of Malik in the SC it will definitely pop in to my head, love the bandana and all.

POTW. Haters still spewing their hate at such an exhilarating shot. Full marks to the cameraman and to Malik for striking such a pose after an exhausting Double.

Not to mention Malik had the courage to fight it out through the entire test series then run away in the middle of it *cough* *cough*

Looks like a South Asian Rambo in the picture.

Truly was the forgotten hero of that 1st test. Not all heroes wear capes.

A test batting average of 35, a bowling average of 50. Wow! He was Gary Sobers in a weird way, wasn't he?

Thanks for contributing towards this series win, Malik bhai but our test team will be a lot stronger without you. Hopefully, you keep your great form in LOIs going and retire from T20s after helping us win the WC, next year. Probably won't make it to 2019 so it would be great if you call time on your ODI career next year as well and block the path of youngsters like Sami Aslam, Babar Azam and Younis Khan from getting into the team.

What a final Test match of his career he is having with the ball 6 wickets already  if he end up with a 10 wicket haul here or a 5fer is it going to be the first time in Test history to have them in your last match?

Bowling well today but what I find annoying is that Malik fans is taking solace in his good bowling when he has failed in his primary job which is batting.

A double hundred and now potentially a 10 wicket haul in your last test series. Who would have though it. :)

Seems like you do rate him as a bowler. It has irony all over it :yk

Not at all.

With conditions heavily tilted in his favour coupled with the trepidation of the batsmen he is making full use of it. And I am giving credit for capitalising on it.

However, he doesn't have the ability to replicate such consistency nor will he be provided with odds so heavily tiled in his favour very often.

The severe desperation for recognition from his fans is quite indicative of his worth. And the irony is quite apparent n their posts.

nice excuse but just to remind you he is an all rounder
yes he failed as a batsmen

Continues to own so many people.

10-fer and a double ton in his last series.

Will be remembered highly.

But he has done well this match.

Unfortunately it seems for some people on both sides it's a personal issue and nothing can ever be done about that

well done Malik. He retired because he felt he can't play test cricket anymore. His retirement must give nightmares to YK and Misbah..two oldies who should have allowed Pakistani youngsters to replace them long ago..What a disaster is awaiting them in Eng and Aus. I can't wait to see the end to these players who have made Pakistan cricket their monopoly and the way they have hijacked it.

Lol what 10fer.

Doubt he will take 4 more wickets

don't know if he takes any more wicket or not but he has done well in this game..He has kept Pakistan safe..I'm sure if it wasn't for his bowling or first innings 38 odd we might be in different position. but hails off to him for really calling his day as he couldn't do his primary job..

Lol that's why he always bowls 10 overs in ODIs.... Oh wait! :danish

Yes..Because the all rounders bowl 10 overs..Which cricket do you follow?I've rarely seen Stokes or Mathews completing their 10 overs quota.

Bowling well today but what I find annoying is that Malik fans is taking solace in his good bowling when he has failed in his primary job which is batting.

definition of an all rounder.."he is expected to perform with both bat and bowl or at least on of".

No no his fans said he could get an average of 50 if he continued playing in Test Matches on UAE.

They also said he is the second coming of Zaheer Abbas and Hanif Mohammad due to his contributions in the top order.

They're shifting goalposts now.

You can't change the standards now. He was better than Misbah and Younis uptil now. Now he is an 'allrounder'

The scenario changes to suit their needs. Now we shouldn't expect high scores from Malik coz his batting is once in a blue moon :afridi

Exactly. Now that he has failed as a batsman, he is suddenly an all rounder. That's why he only bowls like 2-3 overs on average in ODIs.

In the middle of a potentially matchwinning spell right now. Will come out a hero if he seals England's fate with the ball here.

bettered his best batting figure in first test
and now bettered his best bowling figure(s) for inning and match...

Hopefully he can get a five for and finish his career on a brilliant note!

Exceeded my expectations with the ball (and in one innings with the bat too :ponting)

Good that he realized that he isn't good enough to play this form of cricket, retired somewhat gracefully :yk2

So as usual.... totally baseless excuses....
If "not playing in UEA for while is YOUR excuse.... then what would you say about these player who scored 100s on debut.... have NEVER played before?

This is not the first time you has used this.... excuse for Malik's pathticness (if that is a word!)...
How many people in the history of cricket have chickened out when they were selected for a their national team? You wanted Malik to chicken out.. well.. he chickened out for good! happy?

66% of single digit runs at #3 not acceptable... but you would agree that it's management's fault ...
Yes... I agree. it is Misbah and Waqar's fault to ask for a player who failed in 75 consecutive innings ... not too long ago... and totally ignored players like Fawad Alam....and many more much talented player than this club level player!

Misbah and Waqar with their unfair players selections have hurt Pakistan team more than Asif/Butt/Amir's fixing has!

...and yet he himself believes that his "best" is not good enough for the team.... so he retires! :)

As per his blog he decided about retirement in advance so this could not be a reason.
I really do not know what the actual reason behind the decision (I do not buy "i want give time to family etc" ) however it seems he is not interested in this format (which is unfortunate for Pakistan) or he is too busy with all (except ipl) T20 championships/Leagues. And he wants to ensure that he remains available for those lucrative contracts. (He already had Cat:A contract from PCB)

Did he chicken out? Did not he bat at #3?
Maybe as playing against BD would have been the ultimate test for him.

Yes... I agree. it is Misbah and Waqar's fault to ask for a player who failed in 75 consecutive innings ... not too long ago... and totally ignored players like Fawad Alam....and many more much talented player than this club level player!

Misbah and Waqar with their unfair players selections have hurt Pakistan team more than Asif/Butt/Amir's fixing has!

- Could you share the list of those 75 consecutive failed innings so every one knows how accurate/honest you have been?

- Malik was included in T20I based on his performance in T20 leagues (Domestic and international) and based on his performance he was included in ODIs and he was MoS in last two (or three?) series.

He has the highest ODI average in the World in 2015

and based on his ODI performance (and need of an off spinner) forced team management to ask for his inclusion.

and in this series he holds the two top positions for Best Strike Rate in an inning:

He is number 3 in the list of most wickets taken.
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...most_wickets_career.html?id=10303;type=series

He is number one in best bowling figure in an inning for Pakistan:
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...est_figures_innings.html?id=10303;type=series

and you might have noticed he is only Pakistani who scored double hundred.

What are the chances of him reaching 10k runs if he makes it to next WC?

Relax he just scored a double ton last month...

This is just a speed bump on the road to greatness.
