Sohail Khan..... how fit is he?

He's not done much wrong in this test, and might still have a role to play, but would be good to see how Imran Khan goes in the third test match.

Elsan Adil should replace him in Australia, the bowlers in the squad should be:

1. Amir
2. Wahab Riaz
3. Rahat Ali
4. Yasir shah
5. Nawaz

6. Imran Khan
7. Ehsan Adil
8. Zulfiqar Babar

Even Wasim Akram was frustrated looking at the guy. He is like at the international level, you cannot take 3-4 overs to get into the groove and rhythm, you have to make each and every delivery count. He was demanding that Sohail Khan get fitter and work on stretching, warm up exercises.

Even I feel tired while watching him putting so much effort with so little effect.

His fitness is non existent. This is international cricket, you can't just rock up and bowl a decent five over spell a day and think your job is done.

I am pretty happy with Sohail Khan's efforts in the test match.
I think he was put on notice in this test match to display his fitness. and he has done very well in this innings. Hopefully he finishes well.
But yes, I do have sympathy for the view, that when he is bowling he often looks like he can break down any minute. Maybe its a ruse for the opposition.

I blame Shoaib Akhtar.

It's crazy to think a fast bowler can have the endurance to bowl long spells at pace if he has overdeveloped his upper body muscles.

Why blame Shoaib Akhtar? He is a lot fitter and more effective than Sohail Khan.

Split of Test wickets:

1st and 2nd innings combined - 14 wickets
3rd and 4th innings combined - 3 wickets

His fitness still doesnt look that great and we cant afford a liability of a 3rd seamer in the side when we tour new zealand or Australia.

He can only play tests in UAE, where spinners bowl 80% of overs in the 2nd innings. he isnt fit enough to bowl in 2nd innings. I say, we give him a run in ODIs and T20s and if he doesnt perform, let him be discarded; he is already 32 and isnt getting any fitter.

In what world? He barely played test matches, and was barely on the field afterwards his bowling spells.. half the time in the dressing room with a niggle, his fielding was atrocious and a liability for his teammates

Trundling in 120s with nonexistent lift again. I reiterate he simply doesn't have the physique for fast bowling. Lacks fast twitch muscle fibre. This isn't a matter of fitness.

I can accept Mohammad Asif at such a pace because he gets lift and moves it both ways in the air and off the seam and bowls a metronomically accurate line and length.

But Sohail seems to run in faster than he bowls. And is consistently far too short and far too wide.

Mohammad Irfan from NBP is your man. 6'5 high right arm, lively, swings the ball, gets lift, recently toured Australia with Lahore Qalandars and impressed all the coaches. Sydney were ready to add him to their squad had it not been too late.

It's interesting that you mentioned too short and too wide.

I personally was someone who anxiously looked forward to his debut throughout 2007 and really looked forward to him when he got picked up in 08. Initial impression was not great but I decided to keep an eye for next few season s and it wasn't until 2011-12 (after keeping an eye on his bowling in telecasted games domestic and international) that I gave up on him...

He manages to out swing be ball for 3-4 overs but overall I determined in 2011-12 that he is is a three trick pony 1 - short and wide 2- terrible short pitched ball that just sits up to be smacked due to his low pace, 3 - A slower ball.

Not worthy of playing Pakistan as fat bowler.

I'm really sorry, I can't speak any Asian langauages, although I heard Aaqib say "amazing talent" in English at 3.15!

Mickey Arthur actually dropped Shaun Pollock (Shaun Pollock!) because he had a non-negotiable rule that each quick must be not just at least 6 foot tall, but also bowl 140+ all day.

I think after this tour Mickey needs to be given a free hand to use a big broom to get rid of the Imran Khan and Sohail Khan style trundlers.

I wish that Ehsan Adil was ready, but I fear that Pakistan might need Mohammad Asif outside Asia for a year or two first.

At that point he was talking about someone named Ehtisham Sultan of Rawalpindi - A fast bowler who supposedly bowls very well with new ball, swings it both ways, and can bowl at 140K+ (Aaqib's words not mine)

I did some searching and found a video of his bowling in a domestic T20 match, he seems like a decent/good talent, not like out of this world though. Then again this is just a video from a T20 match so not much to look in to it although his short pitched bowling seems to hurry the batsmen which might be an indication that he is pacy (depending on the quality of the batsmen for sure): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCYrXaJcq1U

Aaqib also said Amazing Talent for Mohammed Irfan and also praised left hand spinner Ghulam Rabani

Here is small clip of that Mohammed Irfan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrEVLMZPm2E

Weird action but some real swing and bounce there, again not much to read in to based on the little video. Here he was being discussed in detail on PP: http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/showthread.php?217258-Mohammad-Irfan-NBP-fast-bowler

This guy reminds me of tanvir ahmed on the last aussie tour, decent bat but struggles to hit 130kph & 2nd spell is even worse... frankly speaking a 6"4 fast bowler from Pak "where u can turn a stone & find a 140kph bowler" bowling in mid 120s was shocking to say the least. Its so frustrating being a Pak fan & then the way Yasir was used was just mind boggling..

his approach and delivery action reminded me of sylvester clarke....a bit unorthodox.

I am sorry. Age catching up. Sohail's batting, yorkers, slower bouncers tell me that if any Int Cricket is left in him than that is Odi and Odi cricket only. Wrt Test or T20 cricket it's probably over. If in last test its seamers friendly wicket he may succeed but than we have all of 7 tests in 2017 on dead flat wickets so he won't be able to average under 30 against weak teams due to speed, fitness, age. He is no Asif, McGrath or Philander so on batting surfaces against top 4 Test batting line ups he would average 35, 40 at best which isn't acceptable. Still I have no complain from Sohail. He is a Sher. Gives it his all. Love his attitude. Wears green flag on his heart. Loved his fivefers.

Proud of you Sohail Khan. Salute.

How embarrassing. He was unfit in England how is he still the same 5 months later?!

If you want to find out why Pakistan cricket sucks so much at the moment Sohail Khan encapsulates that. We are a nation of excuse makers.
