The T20 World Cup 2024’s Group D competition continues with the Netherlands squaring off against South Africa in the 16th match. The showdown is set to take place at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York today on Saturday, June 8.

The Netherlands, under the leadership of Scott Edwards, aims to replicate their previous success and extend their winning streak following their triumph over Nepal. On the other hand, South Africa, captained by Aiden Markram, seeks to rectify their defeat from the last edition and secure back-to-back victories after their impressive win against Sri Lanka in the opening match.

Netherlands is a nemesis team for South Africa. Not sure why ICC again pooled them together! Will South Africa take revenge against them OR will they succumb again? Looking at the trend in this world cup another upset is on the cards! If it was flat pitch (like in SENAI usually for LOIs) South Africa would have brutally tried to outplay them. But slowness & sluggishness of these pitches may allow Netherlands to again outsmart...

Because srilanka made 77, and even then sa fumbled and was struggling. Yes the NY pitch is horrifically bad, but still, to struggle big time is just bad.

And tbh, Sri lanka and bamgaldesh are trash. Nedtherlands is superior to them atm. USA is superior to these 3 as well.

Shaun Pollock and Ebony Rainford-Brent: We have a fresh pitch for today's game. There's a strong breeze blowing across. 70 meters on one side, 66 on the other, and 72 meters down the ground. It's been a change of strategy - they've definitely taken more grass off. I think this will play better and I think they're using this for the India-Pakistan game as well.

This pitch is not international standard. The bounce is lethal on this pitch.
It is very difficult to pitch to bat on

On the same pitch, tomorrow ind vs pak will happen. I don't see any demons in the pitch till now.curators seems to have shaven off entire grass on the pitch
 
Pakistan will suffer badly on this pitch.i don't see them making 100 runs on this pitch.
 
Tackiness is still there. The bat hitting the ball makes a funny sound. Not that crisp TAK sound
 
And there you see the difference between an actual athlete as a slip fielder (Jansen) who takes a blinder and our every own Chacha who didn't even move (reflexes are shot) when he was in the same position against the US...

Seems like SA will decimate all the teams in this group. It will be a straight shootout between Bangladesh and Netherlands and Srilanka
 
SA has all the bases covered except choking :) They should go all the way given the resources they have.

Yea you cannot hit your way out here. Pitch offers seam movement both ways. Occasional balls stand up especially it is the case for tall bowlers who bow linto the pitch. Little bit of swing is also on offer.
 
Netherlands should bring out their smartness (as they usually do). They should somehow push to 15 overs, and then slog to reach 100+ They can challenge & suffocate South Africa with that score! (100 on this pitch is equivalent to 150 on other normal pitches)

Pitch is similar to South African pitch (test pitch) minus outfield. South African outfield is fast and offers value if you play good ground shots! West Indies pitches are usually not this deadly (outfield are slow though)...
 
I generally judge the nature of surface from the sound of bat hitting the ball. There is an empty hollow sound it makes. Not the sweet sound you expect.

Sorry to say, trying to promote Cricket in USA has been terrible so far, especially NY as venue. Also, no access to ESPN.
 
What a runout by Markram . Usually when SA are losing to NED or a crucial match , they lose their bowling disciplines and start dropping catches .

They've been exceptionally disciplined with the ball and have been stellar on the field.

It's interesting that South Africa are using Nortje as enforcer in the middle overs and perhaps bowling him out there and then.

Pakistan can also look to do the same against India with Haris. Considering Haris may not be at the top of his game when it comes to closing in, in the death overs.

100 way too high. India removed Sri Lanka for 50 on Indian roads lol.

And Sri lanka vs Pakistan have been dead even since 2022, Where Sri Lanka won one game easily, the game in 2023 in Asia cup had them winning but it went down to the wire and the game in wc 2023 required Pakistan to bat put their skins to win
