What's new

South Africa [141/4] demolish Pakistan [140/9] with 6 overs to spare in 2nd T20I; series tied 1-1

Pakistan are playing it's top team (according to selectors and management at least) almost in every match, but they just can't win any match or series emphatically even against second string teams, every win is a torturing one. But the rubbish management get's over-happy and think they have acieved alot.

By Playing with under-strength SA Team , Pakistan fans have got false notion of team improving , against top sides Pakistan would fail badly , against this team Pakistan should have hammered this

Babar brings Shaheen when the game is done and dusted. This is just poor captaincy.

Lol some folks got their hopes high when Biljon got dismissed. These two just killed any small Chance that Pakistan had.

Pathetic captaincy. But it's okay because Babar protects the middle order. :salute

Yes for some a poor 50 is worth losing the game.

Genuinely pathetic captaincy. Not a supporter of Sarfaraz, but he knew when to go in for the kill and when to defend. Babar is doing club level captaincy.

where are the people who were defending Babar's ATG knock SA D side have almost chased this score with in 15 overs.

George Linde hitting 6s at will but Babar batting at a strike rate of a 100 is fine. :salute

Firstly, this was a horrible game, both by batting, bowling, captaincy, and fielding standards. Will elaborate more later.

Babar's batting was the sole reason we are losing this game vs SA D side. I've been impressed by his captaincy apart from this match, but his batting is the real culprit in this T20.

Do you guys even understand cricket. Linde is batting when SA are within touching distance of small score after many batsmen contributed and gave SA gave a start. Babar was battling alone except for a brief contribution from Hafeez.

In T20 format you just need few bad overs to play catching up in the game. SA played well and Pak needs to sort the issues in batting out other than that its part of the game.

Funny to see Pakistan huffing and puffing to beat SA C and next match SA C humilates them one sided without breaking sweat :D

This lame excuse of "he had to bat that way because wickets were falling around him" does not hold any water in modern day cricket. This logic is even more meaningless in a format like T20 where you have a surplus of batsmen...meaning that protecting your wicket or playing the role of an anchor is totally useless for your team. Every single batsman needs to hit out in a T20 game; period!

What Babar did today was shocking and very very selfish of him. However, again, with guys like Misbah and Waqar who themselves have zero understanding of the game, there is no hope that Babar will be made to realize this.

I think this match was enough to show that Babar should always open in T20's he doesn't have the power game to hit boundaries regularly.

Please keep the obese & fixers away from national it just shows how pathetic your national team is.

Pk lost this with pathetic batting. Pk's batsmen are poor technically and at finding gaps.

Positives:

For RSA:

Deep pool of talent, especially with the bat. Markham is established but Malan & Klaasen are quality.

For Pk:

It's a t20 and RSA were alwaya going to win 1 game (at least). Pk batting is too inconsistent for a clean sweep.

Pk batting really needs work. But sometimes in sport the wheels come off.

The win in the first T20 was down to a fluke last over.

South Africa D should be 2-0 up here.

The lack of talent in Pakistan is embarrassing.

When you have a genuinely incompetent management who create no bowling plans for stages of the game coupled with several incompetent players who are unable of holding a bat, you get the sorry excuse of a cricket team known as the "Pakistan Cricket Team".

Who were the surplus batsmen Pak had. We started with 0-1 in a team with only 5 batsmen, one being the inexperienced Haider Ali.

Wait, you drop Rizwan after one failure? Pakistan would be losing 2-zip if Riz wasn't there in the first game.

You guys won the series in Pk (including tests), and the ODIs. Not so bad albeit Pk are not now in the top bracket of sides.

LMAO what a performance. This type of loss would be humiliating against South Africa A but South Africa D pulling this off is just hysterical 🤣🤣🤣

5 batsmen a T20 means that each can play just 4 over and you'll have your entire innings played by specialist batsmen. That is what I mean when I say that in this format, you should not worry about getting bowled out (barring an epic collapse obviously) and always go all guns blazing. A 50 of 50 balls is cannot be justified, especially when you are batting first.

And they are?

Shaheen and Hasan are the only international standard bowlers on the Pakistan team. You know that they're delusional when Faheem, Nawaz, and Hasnain are allowed to bowl filth and still get more overs instead of going to Hasan (who got the wicket) and Shaheen (our best bowler).

Doesn't need much more of an explanation.

Well done South Africa! Just goes to show how wrong i was about Sharjeel and the fact he really needs to lose weight, at least 10kg in my view. Shocking fielder and an even shocking innings.

@ snowflakes 4 or 5 batsmen do not get to play 4 overs each. Some get bowled out in first few overs. So the batsmen remaining have to play sensibly, only issue was Babar just could not accelerate today toward the end.

English ability is not a criteria. Have some self respect. I write this as HS English teacher.

I have no problem Babar using an interpreter, I find it funny that the interpreter himself is incompetent lol.

Babar used mostly English words anyway, I am sure he could string up the sentences himself instead of the guy who is supposedly an interpreter.

Markham ended the chase with his blistering 50. RSA batting talent is deep. A good system shows its worth. Note for my board and for Pk.

There is always excuses for why Babar can't accelerate but inferior players can.

Hasnain was being hyped a few days ago and now he is not even international class. Nawaz has been in good form and gave away only 21 runs in his 4 overs in the last game. 5.25 SR and 9.66 SR in the two games. Shaheen on the other hand has received two consecutive phanties at 11.25 SR and now 10 SR in this game. Wouldn't have matter who bowled, Pakistan would get pasted any way. 6 overs margin is massive in T20I.

Did Babar give any concrete answers, insights or reasons for the performance or was it the same haan jee bilkul, ghaltiyon se seekhein gay aur aagay repeat nai kerein gay 8ull$hit?

Desis put too much stock on English speaking ability. Those born and raised in Pk/India/BD/SL need not speak it. I migrated at a young age, but I do not project it onto my people as a requirement or badge of honour.

Yes though surprisingly SA didnt seem to be satisfied with their system as they are bringing in 16-18 team structure. Maybe its to make it easier to adapt transformation quotas going forward.

Am I to believe what I just read? Did Babar really say that aggression cost us the game?!?!

You are taking this topic too much to heart. I just found it funny that a designated interpreter himself can’t speak the language. I am pointing out the irony. This isn’t about any cultural pride or linguistic pride.

And who were they for Pak scoring 40+ runs for today. Babar more often than not scores at a strike rate more than 120. He does not need ex uses he also scores runs more often than not. He is not a power hitter type batsmen but still yet an important player for Pakistan. SA made the score easily not down to any one batsman.

No worries brother. I was just speaking on the mindset such observations can reflect.

RSA went from the #1 team to mid-tier so they will want to find a reason. Improvements are always possible but they have a great system.

He is actually not wrong though it was the SA presenter who iniated that. Rizwan went over aggressive first ball, and few others also played unnecessary shots.

He doesn't need to go bang bang but even Williamson and Root can play grounded shots for bouandires at regular pace. Babar can't. The pitch was flat. There is always excuses for Babar

wow! okay, if that is how our captain thinks, God save us!

Reason is possibly trying to push transformation faster than they were ready for and thus now they are trying to adjust the system to match the pace. Will have to see how it turns out. In my opinion transformation pace at top level could have been bit more subtle while they could have worked for the same at grassroots level.

If Babar cannot play ground boundaries then I wonder how he scores at 120+ strike rate in T20s, surely he is not running between wickets for all those runs. Easy to lay onto someone who just played a poor inning. On the contrary there is always too much hate for Babar.

Anyone supporting Babar's knock at the moment needs to understand the following things:

1. Losing wickets doesn't mean that you go into a defensive shell and play a surplus of dot deliveries. That would be applicable had this been Pakistan vs South Africa in year 2007. It's 2021 and playing like this is unacceptable.

2. Even in the partnership with Hafeez, Babar was doing nothing. He was actually going at less than a run a ball, and it could even be argued that his innings is why the middle order failed, because he was taking too much time to get himself going rather than rotating strike and letting others bat. With Hafeez, he should have rotated strike more instead of getting stuck at the crease, and he should also have done the same with Haider.

Babar's knock was extremely poor, this is worse than the humiliation we faced against Sri Lanka's D team.

Furthermore, I already made a post about Babar's batting style in T20s being unacceptable, particularly from the grip and back-foot. He grips his bat too far near the top, so the bat swing is like hitting a baseball with a plush toy, it's ineffective and it's why he can't connect sixes. He needs to hold the bat from lower to get more batspeed and more power essentially. Furthermore, he's in a state of confusion about power-hitting. It's not all about who has the bigger muscles, it's about moving around in the crease to open up scoring sides, which he doesn't do at all. I've never seen Babar Azam move around in the crease to hit boundaries, and if anyone has a video to prove me wrong, please show it. When a fast-bowler, is angling the ball towards you, instead of pulling the ball horizontally or even going over the ball in the pull (how he got out), you're supposed to form a diagonal with the path the bat travels, going upwards. This is to lift the ball with height rather than bunting it horizontally and getting caught. I haven't even gotten to the back foot issues, but the stride and relaxed shoulders are equally as important. If your shoulders are stiff, it occassionally moves onto your elbows being stiff as well, meaning that you don't connect with the ball at all. The stride is also important, because on a full delivery, you can't just clear the front leg and hope for the best, you need to take a stride in the direction before letting your bat flow through. Lastly, the back foot is all over the place, you can't expect to make good contact if your back-foot isn't stable. Part of hitting is remaining balanced to make the best possible contact, so I briefly just summarized what's going wrong with Babar's hitting game. Bat lift matters as well, it's why he doesn't generate enough power.

Sharjeel, Rizwan, Haider, Faheem, and Nawaz should all be disappointed with themselves. Firstly Rizwan, there was no need to go and bash the ball straight up on the first delivery without knowing what the pitch would do. Secondly, what was Sharjeel doing? The ball was never there to hit straight, and he went through with the shot anyways. Haider needs to start reading spin, this was the same issue Ijaz Ahmed or whoever was his batting coach pointed out at the U-19 level. He didn't pay attention to the bowler releasing the ball, and was often dismissed to spin. Faheem is a poor man's Ben Stokes, especially when it comes to hitting range. Nawaz isn't an all-rounder, he is a bowler.

Lastly, the bowling. Hasnain, Nawaz, and Faheem bowled poorly and bowled more than they should have. When the game was slipping away, instead of doing the logical thing and bringing the best bowlers on, Babar took a step in the opposite direction and persisted with the same group of bowlers. The captaincy was absolutely horrible. The bowlers came out with no plans and bowled in the same strong zones of Markram as they did in the first game. It was a pathetic display of bowling, and an even worse display of batting and captaincy.

A lot has to improve otherwise we'll be hammered by this South African D team.

Babar looks out of his depth when we are chasing a big score. That's the truth.

Oh wow. Inside 14 overs? :virat

That's a proper phainta.... :akhtar

As I said before, there are a lot of holes in the Pak lineup and they'll be thoroughly exposed against top sides and occasionally against even third string sides like we saw today...

They're still below SENA+I in white ball cricket.

I am still confused which side was having a "D" team and which side was having their full strength team.😐😶

Our tail starts at 5. Playing bits n pieces in hope of strengthening ur bowling is a sign of defensive mindset.
Modern LOI game is about batting. Need to play proper seasoned batsmen and not undercooked guys like haider or bits n pieces like nawaz and faheem

JOHANNESBURG: A stellar all-round display by George Linde was the catalyst for the Proteas to draw level at 1-1 in their KFC T20 International Series against Pakistan following a convincing six-wicket win at the Imperial Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Monday.

The slow left-armer first claimed an impressive haul of three for 23 in four overs that limited the tourists to a poor 140 for nine, before striking two sixes in an unbeaten 20 off 10 balls to help finish off the game – South Africa winning with a full six overs to spare.

There was also a three-wicket haul by Lizaad Williams (3/35), while Sisanda Magala recovered from a nightmare start to bowl outstandingly at the death and end with one for 32. Tabraiz Shamsi was also at his usual best, bagging one for 22.

With the bat, Aiden Markram recorded his second successive half-century to lead the hosts brightly out of the blocks with 54 off 30 balls (7 fours, 3 sixes) and captain Heinrich Klaasen also starred with an unbeaten 36 off 21 balls.

That completed a strong showing by Mark Boucher’s side, who were under pressure after losing the Betway One-Day International Series and also the first T20I on Saturday. However, the coach kept faith in the same XI that played in match one, with the inexperienced group responding admirably in match two.

They lost the toss and were asked to bowl first, with Linde removing South Africa’s recent nemesis, Mohammad Rizwan, for a duck, before taking out Sharjeel Khan (8), both inside his first 11 balls.

Mohammad Hafeez (32) and skipper Babar Azam, who recorded a rather sedate 50 off 50 balls (5 fours), added 58 for the second wicket, but that was as good as it got for Pakistan.

Magala did send down a nightmare 12-ball first over that included seven extras, before responding remarkably to peg the Asian side back at the death. At the other end, Williams also showed good fight as he ran through the middle-order, leaving the tourists struggling for any momentum as they set 141.

Janneman Malan (15) then helped Markram provide the home side with a strong start of 44, before he and Wihan Lubbe (12) fell in quick succession.

Markram kept going until he and Pite van Biljon (2) were removed just before the 100 was raised.

But the quick rate that South Africa had scored at – they reached 100 in the 11th over – meant that they had the luxury of time on their side and the Klaasen-Linde fifth-wicket partnership combined for 49 in just 3.4 overs, leading the hosts to a strong win.

Babar is to blame for this embarrassment. A pitch where Hasan Ali comes in and slaps two consecutive sixes without breaking a sweat, he went at an embarrassing SR of <100.

This is a third-grade South African side, and from evidence of tonight, they will emphatically win the series in my opinion.

A fifty from Aiden Markram and valuable contributions with the ball from George Linde and Lizaad Williams inspired South Africa to a six-wicket series-levelling victory against Pakistan in the second T20I in Johannesburg.

Linde returned a crucial 3/23 and played his part in three further dismissals to help restrict Pakistan to 140/9 after they had opted to bat. Aiden Markram's explosive century – a second fifty on the trot – helped South Africa see out the chase with as many as six overs to spare.

Pakistan suffered a blow moments before toss when the explosive opener Fakhar Zaman was ruled out with what reports suggest was an allergic reaction. Sharjeel Khan, making his first appearance for Pakistan in four years, took his place, but the visitors got off to a poor start and never really recovered.

George Linde caused the visiting batsmen a lot of problems. With hthe very first delivery of the match, he had Mohammad Rizwan – Pakistan's match-winner in the first T20I – caught at mid-off. He then had Sharjeel Khan dismissed in similar fashion in his next over, reducing Pakistan to 10/2 within three overs.

Captain Babar Azam was veteran Mohammad Hafeez looked to put Pakistan’s innings back on track, combining for 58 runs for the third wicket to first revive and then accelerate the total. Pakistan were, however, 68/3 in the 11th over when Linde returned to induce the edge off Hafeez (32).

From there on, the wickets fell regularly. Haider Ali (12), Faheem Ashraf (5) and, Hasan Ali (12) were all dismissed for minimal impact, even as Azam brought up a watchful half-century at the other end.

Pakistan were kept to just 11 runs in the last two overs, with Lizaad Williams and Sisanda Magala building on the good work to ensure no easy runs were given.

South Africa had little trouble in the chase. They got off to a flyer with Janneman Malan and Aiden Markram putting on 44 in under five overs. They laid the foundation for the chase in the Powerplay, and despite Hasan Ali snaring Malan for 15, South Africa weren't to be stopped.

Markram continued on the offensive, and despite losing Wihan Lubbe fell to Mohammad Hasnain in the next over, he continued attacking. He brought up his fifty in style, despatching Usman Qadir for a six. Four balls later, Qadir exacted revenge as Markram mistimed one straight to long-on. Pite van Biljon fell to Qadir too, but South Africa weren't to be denied.

Requiring just 48 runs from nine overs, captain Heinrich Klassen and Linde applied the finishing touches to help guide South Africa to an important victory.

Hasnain was being hyped a few days ago and now he is not even international class. Nawaz has been in good form and gave away only 21 runs in his 4 overs in the last game. 5.25 SR and 9.66 SR in the two games. Wouldn't have matter who bowled, Pakistan would get pasted any way. 6 overs margin is massive in T20I.

I don't think you're quite understanding what I'm saying.

Shaheen started his spell with the new ball quite well, so he should have continued.

Hasan was taken off right when he took a wicket, for reasons unknown.

Had we applied pressure on South Africa early on when we had found an opening, the match could have been tighter and there would be more data to work with for the next game.

Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf cementing their places would be good news for Pakistan's rivals.
