Much much better, if they are hacks then current Dhoni isn't even a cricketer. Bowl at him at 140+ and he can't even connect bat to ball.
 
And here comes the usual stat padding as he hits a 4 or 6 stays not out at Strike rate of 100 with stats not showing how truly atrocious he was.

Pant is a leg-side hack who struggled to put bat against A team bowlers.Samson is a much improved batsman now.
 
Finally a boundary.

India has a serious middle order problem. Really hopeless there.

Teams like England and Aus would score 350 after 177/1 in 30 overs. But India with its pathetic middle order is struggling to score 290.
 
How the heck did India not score 300+ here?

Teams should go full throttle at the India top three to be honest and try to get them out. Worth a punt. This middle-order won't be a threat for part-timers even.

Even Iyer couldn't.He's the most talented hack atm.What makes you think pant or samson can?
Dhoni is merely a support batsman now,shouldn't rely on him for power hitting.Thats the job of pandya and number 5.
 
Pathetic display in the slog overs. Not a single batsman has the fire power to continue what Kohli/Dhawan were doing.

The entire Indian middle order should be replaced by other young guys in the Indian set up, whenever the top order does not fire India loses.

I think they need more playtime in the middle. The top three is so prolific, the rest just don't get opportunities. This is the most top heavy team I have ever seen.
 
South Africa will win this - this is a high scoring ground and this total is not enough.
 
Still trying to remember the user who said that Rahane was a LOI batsman.

Give me a break,iyer couldn't even properly conncet the ball.Pandya who is in the team for power hitting wasted deliveries equally,rahane again threw away his wicket.Without dhoni you are looking at 260 all out here.
 
India 50-60 short here. This is the best wicket of the series should be a cake walk for SA and match should be over by the 45th over. Very poor batting performance by India. Weather God saves SA for once but then India just didn't show the same discipline after the Lightning break,340 is par here

Really? What did youngsta beauties do? They gifted their wickets. Not cause Dhoni put pressure on them, they just couldn't rotate the strike and swinging bats at everything. Atleast Dhoni managed to contribute 40 runs in the end with his worst display of batting. Rohits, Rahanes, Pandyas couldn't even put bats on the balls. If Dhoni got out cheaply, we wouldn't even have reached 290.
 
I don't know why everyone is giving Dhoni slack as he only faced 5 deliveries between the the 45th and 48th over. Without his 40 odd you guys wouldn't have even crossed 250.
 
If India's batting situation is this worse that a 40 of 40 balls coming to bat at 210-3 after 35 overs is hailed as a very good knock then not much can we expect from this team in WC 2019 unless opposition makes some chokes.

The bowling was very good.2 bouncers every over..2 dots or getting out pulling.Pitch was bouncy.SA had 3 fast and tall bowlers.Our middle order IS crap though.
 
Are there no talented indian finishers in IPL? What is IPL doing? Why are guys like Dhoni, Yuvraj, Raina still playing or keep making comebacks into the team? I guess one of those finisher is Superstar Hardik Sobers Pandya but he is finding it difficult to score even 10 runs these days. Kedar Jadhav was supposed to be the next big thing but he is just a balloon running out of gas.

This guy is senior beauty. He is supposed to step up big time as a finisher. Not tuk tukking rigth till 49th over and wildly swinging in 50th over.

IPL can't give you folks who can play well in ODIs. See how Windies T20 superstars struggle in ODIs.

Pandya will finish if you keep bowling full lol If you bowl half way down the track he has no shots to offer. HE just blocks and tries to run. India needs players to take on any type of bowling in the end. Not just full balls.

Dhoni is finished as a batsman.He is in the team for his non-playing kaptaan skills.:uks

Yes sorry! No talented finishers at the moment and we can only rely on Dhoni at the moment. Kedhav jadhav is filling a temp spot and he's not the answer for 2019 WC finisher role. Middle Order is totally messed up with inconsistant batters and aging Dhoni, but this is how it is for now and hope the upcoming IPL unleashes the talents of Nitish Rana, Hooda and Tripati!
 
INdia will defend this comfortably.

This pitch has lot of bounce and scoring will not be easy unless you are good at pull shot.

Also, Indian spinners will be difficult for SA batsman.

Dhoni is not in the team as finisher anymore.He is lower order anchor,and the best wicketkeeper in the world.He's in the team to keep to the spin twins and anchor lower order.Power hitting is the job of pandya and number 5 batsman.Dhoni's speciality is wicketkeeping.Batting is just a bonus which we have gotten used to and taken for granted for too long.
 
Pitch has bounce but it's a true wicket, will be a miracle if we defend this!

Also this pitch will tell more about the quality of leggies we have, ball flies here so giving flight might be trouble against ab, miller n co

Batting is just a bonus is the thinking of 90’s. These days WK is expected to do a lot more than that.

Well! Our fellow PPers forget that Dhoni ain't a finisher anymore and start bashing him for his aging batting skills! But the real deals Pandyas, Jadhavs are here to take up the role of a finisher and I never saw him finishing any match in the past 2 years. So! should we blame these youngsta beauties or Dhoni who's contributing in the end with his consistant few runs, mentoring and wk skills?
 
Top3 is carrying the Indian side.

Bring some NZ-like overcast conditions up-front and make India bat, get those three big guns out(one of them will anyways be a walking wkt and match is there in your hands(ofcourse Dhoni will remain not out at 80 ball 65 odd to please everyone). But that won't hurt opposition anyways.

No anyone who bats that low should have finish capability. Not blocking and shifting all the pressure on others.

I don't think BCCI takes T20 serious outside IPL. And hacks can still finish in T20 if some of their shots come lucky but my point is to be a finisher in ODIs you need more skills.And that is why we are missing Raina. Dude is only 31 and a gun player you would need in situations like these.

Sanju Samson & deepak hooda both young and powerful strikers and also mordern batsman who can improvise but selectors still giving chances to kartik,jadhav etc
 
Indias batting under the kosh from good bowling, not that unusual BUT SA is even weaker. Amla is so badly out of form, the rest just arent good enough, the tail is long and no idea what shape AB is in, who himself has been up and down in form.
 
Amla is becoming more and more like Chanders. Looks very very ugly with that shuffle across the off side to counter swing. Still he edges the ball.
 
Good start. Just score off these two. Pandya will give free runs.

Then we have to see how they play the Wrist spinners

If he gets out early then he is useless and if he plays anchor role then he does to please everyone? Yes he is not finisher he used to be but if he comes at 25 - 30th over then he can play good 80 of 80 - 90 balls even in difficult conditions where 220 is above par score.

After seeing few IPL matches in last 2-3 seasons,I think R Pant and ever talented Samson are the best batsmen that IPL offers.In comparison,C Lynn is miles ahead of them.
Surya Kumar Yadav?He is also one hit wonder and can lose a match with his fielding alone

Chris Lynn could be a Gayle in his prime level player in t-20's but for his recurring injuries how is that even a fair comparison.
 
DLS and curtailed game will help SA for sure.

Something like 100 runs in 10 overs is easily chaseable than 180in 25 overs.

Lot of happy posters as India squandered good start, PP looks very happy place for so many after few weeks of India doing good ..(still this match is not over!...hold your pre mature celebrations).

IPL not produced hitters, no stars, no finishers ..what not, non sense. After 3 - 0 down, home team bound to give fight ... It's SA not some low ranked team :facepalm:
