What's new

South Africa beat India by 214 runs and win the series 3-2

India are actually doing well here

Indians have lost hope so much that we didn't even realize we are not doing that bad.

Still....steep target and no real hitters down the lineup.

But as long as wickets are there and score is moving nicely...if they can get it 250 from here by milking runs, then things can get interesting.

India needs to be at 7 RPO at the end of 40 overs with 7 wickets remaining. Then only they can win this.

At the moment, India will score about 300 with a couple of guys scoring in high 80's.
Its not likely , AB is different .

Its easy to score at 8 or 9 RPO here against trundlers and spinners.

Problem for India is, they have to play 20 overs from Rabada and Steyn. That will be problem.

Runs will come in this pitch.

Have to stay and not get bogged down.

In a tough chase, the goal is to push as much close as possible. We are at 123-2 in almost 20.

If we can be at 250-2 in 35 overs (120 runs in 15 overs by milking singles and striking the odd easy ball here - every over gives us a boundary anyways)....then we would need 170 off 15 to win the game.

Still steep but atleast outside chance.

Losing wickets now means no game.

Need to keep chugging along.

Saffers are known to panic when you get close. So ATLEAST try even though 95% chance of SA winning.

Get to 250-2 and things will look completely different.

India can win if they can score: 200 in 30, 250 in 35, 300 in 40, 375 in 45. Tall odds. All this assuming they don't lose more than four wickets till the 40th over. India don't have big hitters like Yuvraj or Yusuf Pathan to make 10-15rpo at the end, so even if they get 300/3 off 40, they won't make it.

India are doing well but looks unlikely. Hard to sustain 10 runs per over for more than 10 overs unless you have AB or Gayle

technically, he should be. Aint a afrikaaner for sure!
But if a non white player is good enough to be selected without quota what is th criteria than? Can they player 4 quota player than? For example players like gibbs and amla can get into the team just on performance

One boundary and 5 singles is the key. Easy to do it against Bihardeen and Tahir.
Rabada and Steyn are a different story. They are too good to allow batsman to score so easily.

But you have to understand one thing.

Against Rabada and Steyn its harder.

But its THIS pitch.

With pressure on them too.

Completely different scenario.

We just have to hold our nerves and keep doing what we can.

Surprising, we don't have pressure now. Its SA's game to lose.

Just as I say, someone hit a 6.

Behardien has bowled 6 overs and he has gone for only 7 or so runs per over. India needed 10-12 runs per over off him.

AB is getting rid of his weak link early. Will be impossible to maintain 10+ runs per over against Steyn, Rabada and Abbot for more than 4-5 overs which is just not good enough in this case

Quota is not there anymore. But people say unofficially it still is. Amla would count as quota. It just needs to be minimum 4 coloured and ofcourse the better they are the better for SA

Rahane looking like a better batsman than Kohli. India have a 20% chance of winning this if Raina and Dhoni fire after these two.

Mate, this 2015, not 2005.

Well, a quota is a quota. If its a min of 3 in the 11, and then all you need to play is 3 non-whites. Ideally, for the sake of cricket, SA should have at least 3 non-white players who could get into the team on merit.

IMO, with Amla, Tahir and Rabada the quota is fulfilled. Unless the quota is actually 4 coloured players.

Does anyone remember the situation in SF earlier this year? Who were the players of colour?

We can't overthink now.

Saffer pacers can get under pressure and bowl rubbish.

Just got to stay on the wicket, pick the bad balls which come and despatch it.

250-2 should be the goal. Milk, take the odd boundary and milk.

I know its 2015 i was just using gibbs name as example because he was a great performer i think therr werr rumours from SA dressing room on forced selection during thid wc

There were rumours of quota selection from SA dressing room during last wc

Dhoni is super clever. He comes up the order only when the target is achievable or close enough.

Runs keep coming but after this we have no hitters unless we count Dhoni (of present) as a hitter.

This is a pitch where wickets need to be preserved.

Tarun: "Sad part is India does not have a single go to bowler which can break partnerships. When SA feels the pressure they go to Rabada, Steyn, Morkel etc. With this bowling, India T20 chances are really really slim."

Raina needs to take singles.

4s and 6s are useless if you don't mix it with singles which boosts your SR up.

I see loads of Indians trying to jinx India's state of affairs in this match.

In comes the real star and gentleman. Rest are all wannabees

Has Rahane turned a corner in ODIs?

60,45,5,51 and today so far in thise series

India has still got chances. One of their players recently scored a 100 in an earlier innings, might as well do something with the bat too.

Raina is a proper number 6. He has been batting 1 place above what he's supposed to!
