South Africa close 35/1 at stumps after bowling India out for 202 on Day 1 at the Wanderers

Not so long ago people were claiming Jansen to be a trundler too.
 
Wow what an effort from bavuma, very few fielders worldwide would have even reached it
and even as i type, ash hits it high in the air screams 'arre yaar' , he knew he was going to go
Gr 8 innings from ash.
Cmon jazz boom few good hits, get it over 200.
Then come out and lets have a few fireworks with the ball in hand.
 
Jansen has bowled well in this innings he should add few kphs and he will do good for South Africa.Very decent talent

yes, young guy. Maybe bulk up a bit and with the right training could be a terrific bowler, at least in saf conditions

Very tall, reminds me of Bruce Reid of Australia, lively medium fast who will suit bouncy wickets

If not for injuries, Bruce Reid would have been holding quite a few bowling records. Lots of batsmen rated him as the most difficult guy to face.
 
Important milestone for psychological advantage. I think Ashwin was concerned about his finger hence wanted to finish it soon...
 
QDK's absence has definitely helped south africans in this game. Never good for spirits to share dressing room with a player with pathetic attitude

Overall, pathetic timid batting, bad shots played with not a lot of situation awareness
Gotta give credit to SAF, they grabbed oppurtunity with both hands and diminished the toss advantage.
We have to bowl with fire and intensity to put them onthe back foot.
 
SA have allowed India to score a few too many....too many boundary balls, should have kept India under 160.

200 is a pretty competitive score in these conditions.
 
Also, captain himself is guilty of throwing away that advantage of winning the toss.
 
Jadeja, Umesh, Ashwin, Bumrah, Thakur all average better than Rahane since the start of England series.

And to think this guy even led us in a test!
 
Can see this being a low scoring thriller, only diff is SA havent let india get 300 in 1st inns like the 1st test.
 
SA to take some 35-45 run lead in first inning.
India will score 150-180 in second inning and SA will chase with 4 wickets in hand.
Then we'll talk about how India could've won if scored 50 more runs in first inning.

Only good thing will be Rahane getting kicked out for last time.
 
We have 23 overs to bowl at SA before stumps today. Gotta take at least 4 wickets for us to even think about competing in this test.

That wont help either. Cant expect new player to start performing in SA in last test. Pujara and rahane should never have played the home series vs NZ and allowed new faces to prepare for SA series
 
The commies talking about thunderstorm either later in the day or early tommorow.
surely that will have a bearing on the game

You might be right, there were to many gift boundary balls. Any sort of 40+ run lead for either side on 1st inns will be a match winning one.

3-4 wickets today will be game over for SA but I doubt that's going to happen. This looks like a truer surface India just coudnt manage the bounce
 
Meanwhile Aiden markram failed in both innings in Centurion.
He's surely under pressure. India need to keep a silly point under the lid and get our guys to bowl into his body/mix it up.

This. Kohli (and selectors) have been committing hara-kiri on this for so long now.
 
Batsmen need to score some runs here. Bowlers have done a decent job here. Get a lead of 40-60 runs here and India will be under pressure.

Well i guess the new players will surely get more than 6 & 0 that these two got.
am sure if VK is back for next test, vihari will remain but Iyer will replace che pu surely.

1. This is the 9th fastest pitch in the last 16 years ( lol at anyone calling this deck slow)

2. 3rd highest ever rating for inconsistent bounce on a day 1 SA pitch. (Should be given a poor rating imo)

This is an extremely tough pitch to bat. 270 would have been a winning score here.

Logically speaking you are correct that a new player may find it difficult to debut in SA .
But surely the scores Rahane and Pujara are putting up for past few innings... even a college player with just college cricket experience can probably score more ;) against SA

No more than 2 wickets and 60 odd runs will do.
 
SA should target 250 plus minimum here. If SA can somehow to manage 300 runs then it will be game over for India.

Day one should never have such inconsistent bounce. On day 4 or 5 it's fine.
 
Both guys are taking guard on off stump. and then have a slight trigger movement.
is this local knowledge of pitch knowing all theyneed to do is defend those ont he stumps for the ones that are pitched up thereby coming into line better as opposed to our guys who played a lot of shots whilst ont he move?
 
This South Africa team is not bad as some people's think here .they have so many talented batters in both departments .
 
Markram is such a serious waste of space, if South Africa give Janneman a chance, I bet they will never look back.
 
Wow. I thought we won't see any LBW due to bounce. But it really is uneven.
 
Keegan has 4 innings to cement his place, else Hamza is a sure shot bet to take his position.
 
I think of his entire career in tests, no other countries bowlers have pounded dean Elgar's gloves as much as from umesh, ishant and now jazz boom and shami the max
 
Good solid start by Southafrica ,india need wickets otherwise game is gone in 1st innings .
 
Disappointing decline by Pant! He should never ever rest (unless injured) in home tests (any tests) if he wants to have a solid-career in test cricket.

He has become a sort of prima donna with all those missed test matches.

India bowling well and in all fairness unlucky not to have more than 1 wicket.
