South Africa end Day 3 at 27/3 in their second innings, needing 148 to win the first Test against Pakistan

How does Jansen keep getting these wickets lol. Short wide, full tosses, absolute filth

South African fielding has become really innocuous in recent years.
Rhodes, Gibbs, De Villiers, Du Plessis. Smith and Kallis in the slips.
They were the flag bearers. Not anymore.

Probably needed a 250 target to win and Pakistan is barely limping to a 250 score.

The batting simply sucks. When your supposed best batter in the lineup is averaging low 40's in Tests, it explains why Pakistan's batting is consistently terrible.

Damage was done then. A competent attack would've bowled SA for a similar total to ours. Chief culprit was Abbas who bowled slower than my late nani.

I'd love to hear the explanation why he was favoured over Mir Hamza who performed in Australia.

This is why I'll never support local coaches. Cannot resist their subjective likes and dislikes. Aqib Slot no better than Saqlain Klopp, Misbah Mourinho and Waqar Guardiola. No wonder these guys rarely get employed outside Pakistan.
Yeah hamza as left armer would have offered better variation.

Also the overall lack of fitness with our pacers meant that 1 bad session at tail, pretty much is the difference. Also Shan letting game drift at that point was pathetic. The bowlers didn't really have a clue either how to bowl to Bosch.

Same thing happened in Australia in games where decent position were wasted away by our bowlers.

Anyone thinking that aquib as coach was going to perform miracles was ill advised to do so

Pretty standard score for Pak in SA

Even if they bat to their best, 250 is max
For once I thought we had a chance with some new faces but looking at the way they batted, we aren't winning a Test here for another 10 years

SA will win by 6 wickets here. Without that 90 run lead, this game would be 50:50

2018 Centurion Test , SA needed 149 in the 4th innings

2024, they need 148.

Talk about uncanny.

Unpopular Opinion : Sarfaraz Ahmed should replace Rizwan in test ....
On what basis?

Older at the wrong side of 30s by at least 5 years, comparatively unfit more than that, inferior batsman even by stats, inferior WK by some margin even when the was at his best and like 50 kg slimmer……. And a foppish guy with loose mouth …..

As I wrote many times - Rizwan’s biggest crime is that he doesn’t come from the elites of Lahore or Karachi…. hence always under search light ….. on cricket merit, Riz is the MVP of this side…. among very few deserving three formats cricketer and the only genuine all-rounder in this team. Even as a batsman he is opener, no. 4 & No. 6 in three formats….. and doing above per compared to his teammates.

Had they fielded genuine FC bowlers we would have won here. Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali and Khurram Shahzad together would have been a lethal combo.

First few days were good for bowling but we messed it up together with the captain who gave a lot of freebies in the end.

It's not his fault when you select 40 year old to play tests.
True but when you have performed so bad in the first innings when bowling you should atleast make up for it when batting. This should be his last Test

How did Misbah get this team to no.1 in tests? :ROFLMAO:

So many problems with this team. Fragile top order. Dibbly dobbly gentle medium speed bowlers.

For me Rizwan should be Test captain. Shane is tactically inept. Let the game drift ij the first innings. Theres no way Rizwan would allow that.

Mr. T20 specialist would have bowled a few good overs and trundled the rest.

Guys like Shaheen, Naseem aren't interested in Tests otherwise they would played FC cricket instead all the other phateecher T20 leagues in the world.
Should stop selecting players based on popularity. Test squad should only be made up of FC perfomers

Younis Khan and Yasir Shah. Also Wahab played a crucial role against England both in the UAE and in England.

To give some context to Jansen’s 6fer,

His wickets of Rizwan, Salman, Jamal and Saud were a bit soft

However you need to understand how the game has gone for him. He opened the bowling from an end that he was not comfortable with in the first innings, he couldn’t find any rhythm and consistency, didn’t deliver as was expected from him.

In the second innings, it seems either he or the management were adamant that he bowls from the same end Rabada is bowling from to make him more effective.

His wicket of Kamran Ghulam last night was a top delivery with the angle and bounce. He would have got Babar out last night had bad light not been called, from the same angle that he did Kamran.

Again SA wanted to have a burst with Rabada up front this morning and were not going to compromise Jansen to bowl from the end he isn’t comfortable with. As soon as Rabada’s spell ended, Jansen came straight in and caused trouble for Babar from that angle and height. That wasn’t a soft wicket, he would have got Babar out any ball in the slips or caught behind.

Those two wickets of Kamran and Babar were proper worked wickets, and very important to the game

They left about 25 runs apiece on the table in each batting inns and conceded 50 runs above with ball. That is where this Test was lost 🥲

How many years has it been since Rizwan played a memorable Test knock in a genuine crunch situation for his team, it’s not about Lahore or Karachi brother, he has cultivated his very own die hard fan club who accept no criticism and have been making excuses for his soft dismissal like today all day. He’s a very shrewd man, so I give him that however, it must be a coincidence that he always comes out looking just fine whenever there is a high profile defeat.

I haven’t watched the game today. Any cracks for the spinners? Can Saim/Agha do some damage here?

This pitch isn’t that terrible, it’s SA’s game to lose providing they do not panic. Pak’s best bet is to trigger a collapse potentially with the new ball, failing that, they wont come back into the game.

Maybe Fakhar Zaman is from Lahore or Karachi? Why is he the most loved cricketer of Pakistan?

“Rizwan’s biggest crime is that he is not from Lahore or Karachi….not the fact that he is the most selfish player with the weirdest PR and political connections to do his dirty work”

Come on Abbas time to make a name for yourself lad, you get these conditions in England like every weekend 😅

There's a chance for a famous Pakistan win here. Bowlers have to apply pressure and lots of it.

Get Markram and they're exposed

I think brother hasn’t followed Pak in some time and perhaps is just going by the vocal minority who criticise him, Rizwan is the most protected cricketer in the world, he reminds of of those match-room boxing fighters who pad their records by beating wheelie bin men every other week @Amjid Javed

Exactly

To compare him with tailender is absolute crime

Loose limbed, casually running in and moving it from a length. He's very similar to Asif except for the height - Khurram
