South Africa finish Day 1 of first Test at 127/5 in response to Pakistan's total of 181

Can't see how Imam retains his place for next test.Should be booted out.Shan for all his criticism seems to have improved and looks good while playing

I hope we can grind out the remaining session without losing another wicket. The Fakhar approach is not feasible when the bowlers are fresh and the ball is new.
 
These two doing decently... pitch seems to be easing out... lets hope they stay together till lunch

Shan smashes a 139 kph short ball in SA for 4. 3 years ago. Jimmy's 80 mph bumper at Sheikh Zayed was enough to trouble him.
 
Even though we're in trouble, but this is fun to watch. Shan and Azhar have been sublime so far.
 
The major change in Shan's batting has been that he made a conscious decision to play at a high SR. When he came into the Pakistan team, he was very similar to Sami Aslam. Over the past 1 year, he stands tall and tries to score quickly which has reaped major dividends for him. Good for him.

My job is to point out that if you’re going to pick Imam and Shan Masood, you may as well go the whole hog and pick Arsal and the entire Sheikh Family.

How many months have I been writing that this team will keep being 70-4 and 100-6, and that you need Faheem Ashraf for his runs?

Why is he there for every match? Provides zero expertise with bat or ball.

Atleast Wasim and Waqar can talk about fast bowling, wrist postition etc.

What does Ramiz do except for providing adjectives and metaphors for every person/ball?
 
When and against who did Azhar score a 300? I don't remember?
 
Oliver has leaked runs but I really hope we don't take him lightly. He's capable of bowling a great line at fast speeds.

Azhar looking like a million dollars... just slight touches are going for boundaries... lovely....

Not exactly credit to Inzy, he picked a guy who is absolutely bossing domestic cricket around. Credit would be due if he drops Imam for someone like Saud Shakeel.
 
I cannot be the only one who is eagerly waiting for the score to move beyond 50 runs.
 
I saw Olivier debut in England last year. He lacked control with the ball swinging out of his hand instead of later on.

Has a strong domestic record but hasn't done much at international level.
 
Azhar looking positive and in good touch. We cant lose any more wickets this session.

I suppose you're right but frankly, and I know this isn't going to be loved here, I prefer Ramiz over the likes of Waqar. Waqar makes 5 grammatical errors in every single sentence and that is just embarrassing.

I kind of enjoy Ramiz's commentary. The anecdotes from Imran Khan era are certainly a treat.
 
If these 2 can take the score to 100 then i think 275 is a possibility cuz pitch will ease out more.
 
They (Styen and Rabada) both got freebies wickets, that is terrible, how can you gift wickets like that, specially as an opener?? 🤬🤬🤬

Have said this for years, Shan is a quality batsman and extremely hard working. Pretty obvious that he's a grounded, humble guy. I back him to score tons of runs this series and potentially come out as a future captain for Pakistan
 
The value of keeping the scoreboard ticking being realized here. We haven't survived for long but have put up 51 runs on the board anyway.

Pakistan has such a long tail in this match? Why no faheeem and Haris?

Shan has the right tactics for these tracks - he is leaving lots of balls on length and playing straight bat to pitched up balls.

I personally used to like Ramiz as well. But now its like he's doing a parody of himself now.

Its embarassing yes but the knowledge is much more valuable, honestly
