What's new

South Africa finish Day 1 of first Test at 127/5 in response to Pakistan's total of 181

Babar needs to bat higher in the order. Shafiq should not be batting ahead of him.

Wrong decision to bat first. When decisions are ruled by fear rather than strategy, this follows.

Pakistan was afraid of chasing in the 4th innings rather than playing to their strength - their bowlers.

88/6 is terrible indictment of their defensive mindset.

Yeah it happens when you have best since IK as captain. Pathetic decision which will definitely cost Pak this game.

This kind of pitch is Pakistans worst nightmare. Pace and bounce

We have always struggled on these type of pitches. I understand why sarfraz batted first because we are pathetic in the 4th innings. However with the grass cover surely bowling first would have been the way

Bilal7 seems like PCB's spokeperson. Even if Pak lose to Zim 3-0 he will be hailing our rockstars.

No, I'm a fan, not a wrist-slitter. If I did not believe that this team was good and has potential, I would not be wasting my time following them. You guys need to find a new hobby because all this whining must be affecting your personal lives.

Pakistan needs to bat aggressively now. No need to block since there is a chance of injury to tail enders.

Last year India won a Test match in South Africa despite scoring only 189 in 1st Innings.

Pakistan should at least aim 150.
Then Try to bowl South Africa out for 220-230.

In 2nd Innings Pak needs to bat well and try to score 250 ish.

A target of 160-170 will be tricky for Proteas in 4th Innings.

Why does Babar's avg drop so heavily for FC and Tests? The unnatural scoring rate for him?

This is Pakistan. They may not score 250 in the whole tour batting in the first innings

The graphic showed that UAE pitches have average levels of spin and poor bounce. Just goes to show how well Shah has bowled in the desert.

I'm not even mad at the team in general. 2013, literally the top order was out prodding at anything back of a length. Today Shan was unlucky, Shafiq's lbw could've gone either way, it was just skimming the top and Azhar got one that just took off and even then it was a diving catch, on another day it could've landed safe.

I haven't seen Sarfraz bat this bad since his debut in 2010 in the infamous tour of Aus when he came in to replace Akmal. He needs a score badly. Shafiq as well, didn't look too bad until he got out.

You take positivity to whole new level. Being positive is a good thing but defending everything with eyes closed doesn't look good. For instance your statement about Sarfraz as captain despite failures with the bat. That has to be the worst defence I have ever heard.

If we can get to 200 anything is possible. South African batting isn't as strong as it once was . Let's see if Babar can produce a special knock.

Which conditions haven't we fared badly in as of late ? This joke of a batting lineup struggles against pace, bounce, swing, seam, reverse swing and spin.

It still stands. When the score is 85-5, you cannot blame the wicket-keeper and the tail. Blame the batsmen, particularly the openers.

5-fer for Olivier.

Steyn and Rabada are there for just watching. It's this man wrecking havoc.

Has Olivier bowled well or Pakistani batsmen giving their wickets away? The comments seem to indicate he is a Pandya type bowler.

As a team that is used to the low pitches of UAE why the hell would you bat first on a pitch like this.

The pace and bounce is ridiculous

What about blaming the no.7 batsman who scored a 0. And what's his record as a batsman?

Surely Azhar Ali would make a better captain than this. And you could try some exciting youngster for this WK Batsman's spot.

This is the difference between Pakistan and all other countries at the moment. They are drafting in bowlers who bowl 150kmh and they are not even their priority picks.

Its been ages since we saw a 'Real pace' bowler from Pakistan

Olivier has bowled brilliantly today. Those saying Pakistani batsmen gifted their wickets seem to be watching a different game.

This is what I was talking about yesterday, we should have chosen to bowl first on this pitch.

This batting line up is going absolutely nowhere and will rightfully end with the sacking of Sarfraz, Mickey or Inzamam.

Embarrassing

Abbot, Dilruwan, de Grandhomme, Ajaz, Somerville, and now Olivier.

The legacy continues... :salute

He bowled very well. The Shan wicket was lucky but some rip snorters followed up with excellent full deliveries!

Yeah batting your team first on a wicket that has something for fast bowlers on day 1 is going to be ignored completely right?

He has kept it smart and simple. Didn't give batsmen enough room to play shots and kept on bowling short in tandem.
Brilliant spell I would say.

It wouldn't matter. Our batting will get our for cheap no matter what the circumstances are. And with us bowling 1st we wouldn't be able to chase a 50 target in 4th innings here

Pakistan do not have any tear away bowlers in domestic , how are we going to draft them? The pitches in pakistan in damp season favor dibbly dobbly type of bowlers who exploit low bounce and moisture in the pitch in the usual 65 70 overs day. We are not going to see 150 kph bowlers from pakistan.

SA well on top but got men on the boundary for Babar who is only on 23. Shows the bravery of the captain in general

I guess last time in SA we made Kyle Abbot a star with a 7 fer
