What's new

South Africa reach 106/4 in reply to Pakistan's 272 at Stumps on Day 2 of the 2nd Test

Well deserved wicket. Nauman's been unbelievable today. Running circles around the SA batsmen.

This is as good a spell from SLA I have seen in a while

Deserved wicket for Nauman. Keeps things tight aswell which you won't always see with Yasir

Looks like the rain break yesterday really broke pakistans momentum as they had forged a good partnership but was snuffed out early on this morning, if rain hadnt intervened then pakistan would be in drivers seat i reckon.

senseless really am annoyed at Rizwan.....

Guys not sure what you think but he looked like a tail ender all this series yet he looked like Bradman in Newzealand but he looked a rabbit previously as well. So in my opinion he has had just one good series

Lolwut....he has been the only consistent batsman in the team apart from Babar.

Heck he played a good knock last game aswell.
Some people really have short memory

Forget how old the players are. I don't care if someone's 34 if they can bowl like this. Really glad Nauman is making the most of his opportunity

I went for break from thread and see lots of negative trolls have joined in despite Pak on top. Typical.

Without a doubt. Pakistan looked set for a 350 plus score minimum before the rain came.

How are they going to make up for lost overs yesterday?

32 overs lost in total, it's Jummah today so we had extra time for lunch break, will we make that up at end of day?

Should keep both, short leg as well as silly point

Men who have struggled in their life look much older than their age suggests.

Day started 15 mins earlier and will be the same for coming days I think.

This is good. DeQock will gift his wicket by tonight i feel

Many folks wanted Sajid simply because he is younger (allegedly) and for sake of variety.

No you pick your best bowlers regardless of age or how they bowl. Didn't see West Indies in 80s worrying about picking a left arm seamer for sake of variety.

QDK is playing his natural game which is good for SA but, question would be is it too early to continue like that till the trail of 180 diminishes? I guess he will need to balance it a bit.

Poor accuracy from Yasir. So many short balls today.

De kock has massively underachieved in his test career considering his talent, his numbers should have been close to Gilchrist

Nauman's bowling

So as per commies, pacers might not be allowed at this point

Keep his consistency. Only in Pakistan player like him keeps getting chances.

He is consistently poor when is attacked, but if let him settle will be hard to handle.

De Koch has the right idea against him.

People can bash Yasir all they want, he is the only bowler in Pakistan with the talent to produce match-winning spells in the right conditions.

People will keep bashing him just to protect their favorites or some 45 year old journeyman spinner who will be out of steam after 12 Tests.

Shameful.

Nicely done. Wider trajectory from nauman.

I think Pak wanted to bring in pace but due to lights being on, it wasnt allowed so they opt to end it. The way test is moving I dont think it would matter anyways unless one of the two teams has a big innings in them.

How much will this Bavuma miss cost us? He has that Fawad Alam type presence about him!

How many overs have been lost in the game so far?

It might just come down to that in the end.

We lost 32 yesterday, and 3 overs short today despite starting 15 minutes early.

35 overs and counting, that's 1 whole session lost already, this is only day 2

Decent test match cricket today. Pak opening pacers need to improve their accuracy as said in the last match as well. Yes Hassan took couple of wickets which is definitely an improvement but need better accuracy from him as well as Sheheen

QDK will obviously be the key wicket tmw. I would start with pace at one end and spin at the other

The key wicket will be QDK at the moment it is even game maybe Pakistan slightly ahead.yasir needs to tighten his lengths

Pakistan are in a good position.

As for QDK let him slog, he will give chances. We just need to take them.

Don't know where nauman ali was hiding all these years and debuted as an old man.

Has absolute phenomenol control , and ability to hold up an end and at same time pick wickets .

Need to get QDK out early tomorrow before he does any more damage with the bat. 1st session is crucial.

Our old domestic system didn't allow players to stand out as they used to be along the 10+ performers making their effort look ordinary against regional teams. Senior pro's like Nauman, Tabish were always there.

The new domestic system filters out many mediocre players allowing the best bowlers and bats to stand out.

Now you know that guys like Waqas Maqsood, Tabish, Sajid and Nauman have to be good to be stand out performers in this system for a consistent period of time.

Not to forget the wickets been flatter as well this season.

RAWALPINDI: Anrich Nortje’s third career five-for helped the Proteas take control before four wickets for Pakistan ensured the second Test was finely balanced after the second day in Rawalpindi on Friday.

After rain allowed for only 58 overs to be sent down on day one, normal service resumed on day two as the visitors claimed the last seven wickets of the hosts for just 127 to leave them all out for 272.

Paceman Nortje was at the heart of that performance claiming five for 56.

However, the South Africans failed to find any fluidity in the reply as they went to stumps on 106 for four – still trailing by 166.

Aiden Markram was the top-scorer but fell for 32, while a later counter-attack by Quinton de Kock raised hope for his side as they chase a result that could help them square the series following defeat in the first Test at Karachi.

The day had started promisingly for the tourists with Nortje striking in the first over to remove the set Pakistani captain Babar Azam for 77 (127 balls, 12 fours), caught in slips by Faf du Plessis.

Four runs later and the other overnight man, Fawad Alam, was expertly run-out via a direct hit by Temba Bavuma for 45 – the tables suddenly turning on the home side.

Faheem Ashraf then proved to be the glue for the lower order as he recorded an unbeaten 78 off 160 balls (12 fours) as Nortje struck regularly around him to keep the total in check, before Shaheen Shah Afridi was last man out for a duck.

Keshav Maharaj finished with three for 90 in 45 overs and Pakistan were dismissed in 114.3 overs.

The Proteas’ reply began smoothly initially as Dean Elgar and Markram reached 26 without loss two deliveries before tea when the former edged Hasan Ali (2/29) to wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan for 15.

The same bowler then struck next ball by cleaning up Rassie van der Dussen for nought, shifting the momentum in favour of the hosts.

Markram and Du Plessis started out solidly after the interval as they looked to rebuild and their partnership ran smoothly until the former captain tried to cut an Ashraf delivery that was too close to his body and ended up edging to the keeper for 17.

From 55 for three, Bavuma and opener Markram added a further 26, but that stand was also ended, this time when Nauman Ali outfoxed the latter to put Pakistan well on top.

Current skipper De Kock then struck a flurry of boundaries to get his side across 100 but with plenty to do on day three.

Who needs Yasir when you got Faheem who gets FAF!

Lol, such is life eh . .

Faf would be kicking himself! Probably the last bowler he'd have expected to get out to . . especially in that fashion . .

Michael Clarke, who in my opinion is the best tactical captain of the last decade, used to say there is only one quesiton that drives my decision making . . What is it that the opposition team absolutely DOES NOT want me to do . . and its funny how many times just that thinking brings rewards

Need to get QDK out early tomorrow before he does any more damage with the bat. 1st session is crucial.

We will inshAllah, the match is beautifully poised, need a fielder for that reverse sweep and also put on an attacking field to get him out, get the field in close.

I'm predicting this is now a draw.

Pakistan are still ahead here due to South Africa batting being weak in these type of conditions. But De Kock is capable of putting South Africa in front if he bats for a period of time. If we get him quickly, then we should be able to get a good lead.
