South Africa tour of Bangladesh (2024)

South Africa should score 500 first up. This is often a very weird pitch that is even flatter on day 5 and at its toughest on day 3 etc. Very unpredictable .

It's the sort of pitch where you have to eliminate the possibility of a loss first before thinking about winning.

boring .... why make such pitches & play just 4 bowlers !!! 152/1

This was the same ground where Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie had an opening partnership of 415 runs. That record is yet to be broken (highest opening partnership in Test).

India also scored 400+ at this ground in an ODI game.

Possibly the only flat pitch in BD.

basic question - why prepare such a pitch !!!

Bangladesh winning here is better for India from WTC perspective.

But there are some BD posters here who makes it very hard to support that team.

Bangladesh as a country's bad time started. Cricket decline is just a beginning...aage aage dekho hota hai kya. When you can't respect a legend like Shakib Al Hasan, what more can you expect.

You have no idea what you are talking about. LOL.

Cricket is just a sport. It is not a metric for anything.

You don't want to see India losing in Lords in June 2025?
My preference is to see them not in the final.

That way they will get their moaning out of the way quickly rather than moaning about one off games after they lose the final.

LOL. True.

I don't know why they complain about WTC final. I see nothing wrong with a one-off final.

SAF must not bat beyond 125 overs as on this deck you need 270+ overs to take 20 wickets ...198/1 in 54

Stubbs is the best South African batsman since QDK. Will probably end up being the best since ABD. Expectations were sky high from Markram but he has failed.

This kid Stubbs is the real deal though.
Doing the hard job too. Batting 3 in tests and 5 in limited overs. Should be the other way around ideally.

What happened to that Brevis kid? I heard a lot of hype about him. How is he not a regular yet?

Too much T20 cricket has fried him.
Has not developed as much as one would have hoped. Still only 21 so there's time. He is a part of this squad so the powers that run SA cricket think highly of him.

Stubbs is similar to de villiers in the way he can bat like pujara in tests and smash a century at a sr of 200 in white ball.

most good Test teams want a decent 5th bowling option ... look around !

5th bowling option is generally a part-timer one.

For example, Australia play Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood, and Lyon as 4 main bowlers. Marsh may chip in with a few part-time overs.

BD have Mominul as the 5th bowling option (part-timer).

Bangladesh showing their real face, proving the world they will forever remain minnows. Them being Pakistan in Pakistan only validates a point that Pakistan themselves were an embarrassing team and required a lot of change.

SA and NZ are in a different league to them.

SL are also better.

Day 1: Play stopped due to bad light
Summary of Day 1 proceedings

It was a significant day for two of South Africa's emerging stars, Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs, as they both achieved their first Test centuries during a commanding performance in Chattogram. The duo, with eight and five Test matches under their belts respectively, formed South Africa's third-highest second-wicket partnership in Asia, scoring 201 runs and positioning their team strongly for a series sweep.

Taking advantage of favorable batting conditions, they faced a Bangladesh bowling attack that struggled to make an impact. Nahid Rana was the standout bowler, reaching speeds of 148kph but failing to take a wicket. Taijul Islam managed to claim wickets but had two dropped chances off De Zorzi, who finished the day unbeaten on 141.

After India's loss to NZ, both NZ and South Africa have great chances of making it to WTC final.

I think we may see Australia vs South Africa in the final.
I want to see an Ind-Ban final. Hope it becomes a reality sometime, atleast in my kids lifetime. Because at the moment , Ban is getting mauled by SA. Useless pathetic team.

SAF in my opinion need to bat fast & furious for 40 overs tomorrow & get over 450 & declare - this is a dead deck , Ramiz type & they should be prepared for 270 overs to get 20 BD wickets which is a tough grind imo . Who thinks this pitch is a '' RESULT '' surface btw ?

366/2 - 73 overs left - hit out boyz , get to 500 & declare , pitch has nothing & your bowlers will need to do the hard grind to get 20 wickets !

SA should be looking to get 600 here and then declare. Cannot be making mistake like Pakistan did.

At least 150 more runs here. They can bat at higher rate and can achieve in next 40-50 overs easily on such a track.
