I dont want to jinx him but as long as the destructive AB is out there the match is still very much on. After the Tie in UAE they have looked off colour. :P :P :P :P

I hope mclaren and Peterson put something on otherwise SA is going to face a major loss. 93 runs to avoid follow on.

Apart from his debut tour, he's the biggest bottler in this team. I'm surprised he's lasted this long so far in this innings.

he was brilliant in England with the tail. Scored some valuable runs. Unfortunately he got injured before he could bat in Australia. Recently came back against Pakistan in the U.A.E. after being out for almost a year without having played 1st class cricket too (either than 1 tour match by India A).
He is a bottles in ODI's but a clutch player in tests IMO.

There we go, no surprise really from JP. Just doesn't have what it takes to play a solid knock when it matters.

JP :out

Lyon strikes, great catch from Jonno

partnership broken

Bumble was asked during the Ashes what he would do to Lyon who was bowling 49mph straight balls and taking wickets. Bumble said: "go down the ground and whack the ball over his head for 6"

Brain fart by Duminy there, The S.A tail will need to wag like a dog now!

287 trail with only AB over there. Each tail member has to make a 50 partnership with ab. perhaps a hundred.

In between the wickets SA have ironicaly looked at ease. There has barely been play and misses. Definately no demons in this pitch.

I cant blame JP that shot had to be played and it was on. Lyon simply has to be attacked, no two ways about that. He cant dictate to batsmen especialy on day 2.

What McLaren is doing now is exactly whats dangerous. AB is getting cold and losing momentum at the other end. He cant be bogged down, its detrimental.

De Villiers is class. The Saffer lower order have decent batting ability but not sure how they would cope with a rampaging Johnson.

McLaren :out onya MJ

avoiding f/o should be the first priority

It's not going to be enforced. Such a small gap between Tests and Twatto is injured, Clarke will be looking to rest them where possible.

May as well forget about the follow on where OZ is concerned - modern OZ doctrine is to not enforce it unless there's rain coming or not enough time in the match.

SA should be able to just avoid the follow on

Peterson will hit around 20-30 and Philander, Steyn, Morkel will make a total of around 20 and AB should do the rest.

Mitch will be a real handful even on the dead pitches of UAE... Our tin cans better get ready to get whacked

Peterson will be lucky to get 20 in my opinion. Probably get out pulling

Indians don't have to play him at the WACA next summer unfortunately.

AB needs to get a 100 here and pretty much peterson and Philander next in will have to make useful contributions as well.

Without Kallis team just looks so unbalanced

Peterson is very much not treating Johnson like a club bowler.
Very worried about getting hit- and fair enough

he has played some glorious boundaries against him. He is having non of it hence Johnson is going @4 to the over.

Good day overall for the OZ

The run rate was well over 3. There was no need to rush, they were getting runs off faster bowlers without much trouble.

If you don't get to the pitch of the ball then you shouldn't go through with the shot.

JP once again reinforcing the popular belief that he is an average batsman at test level and can't score runs when the pressure is on. (barring his knock at Melbourne some good 5 6 years ago).

Lack of good back up is I think what's keeping him and Alviro Petersen in the side

Today was a bowler's day. Tomorrow should be more of the same if the clouds hang around.

SA will bounce back in 2nd innings and 2nd test. They have a habit of choking in 1st test match of the series.

Their batting is quite weak though after Kallis is gone. Also no proper opener except Smith.

They will get stronger if they include de Kock in the side!

Plenty of good batsmen who can't get in, because they insist on keeping the bottler in the team because he adds a useless spin option.

maybe we should forget his contribution in England too, after all that was 5 years ago.
