I have a gut feeling about this.. Could SA be falling into a trap here ? aussies possibly giving wickets away trying to lure SA into thinking maybe they can win by chasing a huge total, plotting the Safricans collapse when they bat ???....

Could there be centuries for both batting debutants in this game - North in first innings and Hughes here in the second ???? I remember many years ago where Pakistan had two centuries on debut. Does anyone else remember the game, and the players involved?

It seems like the Aussies have intentions of declaring soon. They are simply throwing their wickets away

Test cricket can really be exciting on a sporting wicket.

The current test matches in the Caribbean and Pakistan are so boring on those flat tracks while the Joburg test is really exciting

Aussies 6 down but 390 ahead that should be enough to win this game despite kallis/harris very good spells!

Could be enough but I have this feeling that Smith will win this test for South Africa

LUNCH

Lead is now 420

174-9

Saffers likely to have 5 sessions to get this -if Aus declare

Good thing about this match is, most probably there will be a result. Either Australia will bowl out SA or SA will chase it. The chances of draw are very unlikely unless because of a rain etc.

Aus 420 ahead at lunch. I guess its question of wether Aussies can take 10 wickets now. Weather may play apart in the game.

Come on....easy win for aussie....nobody can make this score on this wicket. Not even 11 bradmans.

Aus 207 all out

South Africa require 454 runs to win [World Record!]

Already a referral! LBW appeal - Smith survives!

Aus lose one of their referrals!

1-0

Balance of the game is in favour of aussie. I will never write off this sa side though.

TEA

SA 57-0

Still need 397 to win / 10 wkts in hand

Aussies still favourites - but SA cannot be ruled out.

Under 400 now.....oops....that's still massive !

Raiiiiin ! Raaaaaaaiiiiiiiinnnn!!!

This could be one of the great finishes to a test match in recent history.

Another 80 runs tonight - leaves 320 on the fiinal day, with wkts in hand.

I'll be watching cricket tomorrow....but it wont be the PAk/SA game!

Yeah , just right this minute we can dare to dream. But a quick two wickets and it all changes. 40 overs to be bowled today so at least a 100 runs can be scored leaving 300 fr the last day. If they are only 2 down ...well....for now anyway...who knows ?

I'd be happy for us to just get close/draw the game for now anyway. A win would truly be freakish.

Damn Sky Sports are their 'Red Button' service!

Cant watch the final session!!!

you cant write of this SA side. They bat really deep and have a very good top 6.
its a big IF but if these 2 dont get out today then all of a sudden Sa are faverouts.

There is no PAK/SA game tomorrow oxy :D

I'm also worried about some of my recent posts....

I don't want to jinx SA but i really feel that history may repeat itself again.
If iam not mistaken, isn't this the same ground where we had that historic ODI between AUS and SA in 2006 in which AUS scored over 400 but SA managed to chase it? I think this ground has very short square boundries. So if SA does not lose some quick wickets today, we may witness history being made again.

Smithy is a good organizer of 4th inning run chases. As long as he is in SA will have a chance to pull off the miracle like they did in one dayers.

That is a big blow. If he had stayed till the end of today, SA had a great chance tomorrow. But now?

A Draw is still possible for S.A

A win would be a miracle. The games nicely balanced.

168 for 2 with just over 7 overs left today

All set up for a fascinating last day

Day ends with saffers needing 278 with 8 wickets in hand. Still very hard but a good partnership tomorrow morning of another hundred and you never know...

S.A i guess will try to play it session by session and if they have a chance after tea go at the total.

They will need big partneships like they had in perth!

about 98 overs tommorrow.

278 runs 8 wickets. just a bit over 2.8 runs an over. If weather holds up, promises to be thrilling play of the day.

Much depends on the weather. Bt of cloud and it will swing ...sunny day and we could see runs. Australia are still well on top, if the saffers get through the morning session wuthout losing more than one wicket however it could be a close thing.

I cant wait for the final day - I want to witness HISTORY

Amla, Kallis, ABD, Duminy, Boucher... lots of batting to come. If they pull this off it would be something else.

I disagree - they have a long tail after Boucher.

Smith is a top bat. Always seems to score when SA need it. If he was still there overnight, I would have backed SA to win. But Aus should get this really.

Insh Allah Amla will score above 100 Insh Allah

He certainly looks in some good form , and he hasn't scored one in a while so he's due.

I'm just a humble "al kofar" or infidel but can someone explain to me this "insh allah" business. I assume it means "Allah willing" but could you explain the relevance to me ?

I mean no offence, just trying to educate myself.

Insh Allah means "If Allah wills". We usually say this because we are uncertain about the future but he [Allah] is not. Since he is certain about it and we are not so we say this because if he wills then it could be possible otherwise it will not be possible.
I am not a very educated Muslim but I hope it helps you. If it doesn't help you please feel free to ask me any other Islam question maybe I would be able to help you.

true , this is very unlike the SA teams of the past which had atleast one or two bowling all rounders down the order !

We need wickets in the 1st session - preferably Kallizzz :28:.

Should be an exciting last days play! I think Aussies need early wickets here!

Cheers. Interesting stuff.

Well S.A need to get through the new ball without too much hurt....then there's a tint chance of a win. Else it's all Australia right now still.

Need to keep bowling tight and cramping these snapperheads for runs. But still anyone's game in this age of T20.

Yeah....first tick in the saffers box. Made it to drinks without any wickets lost. 250 still to get which normally at the wanderes is a very defendable 4th innings score on it's own. Much depends on the new ball you feel.

Oh No!!!

Amla flicks one to square-leg off Siddle

Gone for 57

Thats Saffers chance gone..

Not quite, but a body blow indeed!!!!

What a shame. Oh well...you can't expect to always win these types of games.
