What a catch. Hats off faf. You can never keep this guy out from action. And good brave decision to send kohli in at this situation rather than sending a nightwatchman.

Indians not using a night watchman here. SA has a great chance to pick one wicket and then match will be over.

I get the sense that if one of these two are dismissed it's going to be all over red rover for India. Can't see any of the other Indian bats sticking around for the whole day tomorrow.

Especially without Ashwin.

lol I'm sure that's exactly what happened.

He whipped a half tracker and was unlucky to get out to a brilliant catch. Watch the match.

So you didn't watch him hopping around to all the short balls bowled? He got unsettled and never recovered. You might be watching with some chai in your hand but you're not understanding what really transpired.

Pujara, Kohli and Rahane are India's hopes here.

Pujara and Kohli are WC already, and rahane has the application to stick it out.

What does him playing bouncers have to do with him going down the track to hit a half tracker from a spinner? Are you seriously trying to argue this?

Can you seriously not understand how fast bowlers can unsettle a player and take him off his game and out of his comfort zone?

If you had watched the match, you'd have seen that he looked very comfortable against the spinners.

That ball spun out the rough in the opposite direction, unintentional doosra :91:

Peterson bowling just to keep the afar RR down. Shouldn't get the batsman out from this line

Kohli defending the ball and middling the front foot defence and the saffers making sounds as if he's edging everything

Yaah, I think SA has a great chance to win this test. Only these two have batted well so far in this test series.

Kohli opting for no night watchman and batting himself shows his character :)
Hope he takes up Indian Test Captaincy soon for good

Pujara is just brilliant. So mentally strong as well.

Any chance of a swap? We'll give Sohail Tanvir and Rahat Ali and Aizaz Cheema for Pujara?

Seems fair.

Yaah, I was surprised but good from Kohli.

SA ending the day with a great chance to win this test match. Indians have batted for the first 36 overs now. They would have to bat around another 75-80 overs to save this game. SA won't hesitate to make a run for even 90 odd runs with 10 overs left. So Indians will have to bat total 110-115 overs to save this game.

I think SA will win this test unless this newbie team plays very well. SA will be on attack and have 60-70 overs tomorrow. One early wicket and game will be over.

This SAfrican tour has been great for the young Indian kids overall, they really pushed SA to the absolute limits.. Once they get more experience and find 1 quality bowler they would be rolling over sides at their own backyards future looks bright for India...

Cricinfo :
Its time to get rid of the 2 Sharmas - Ishant and Rohit. They are proven non-performers who can do well against weak teams like West Indies. Rahane is much better than Rohit. Young pace bowlers like Pankaj Singh, Imtiaz Ahmed, Ishwar Pandey, Rishi Dhawan are all better than Ishant Sharma.

Ross Taylor:100 for #Kallis in his last test. One of the great

India has punched above its weight this series. A draw will be an incredible result for them. They were able to do this even with a few passengers in the side, that is even more remarkable. Bowling has to improve a lot if they harbor any intentions of winning such tours in future.

Few bitter truths from this series -
1) Zaheer is finished.
2) Ashwin is no good outside India.
3) Rohit is a certified FTB. Takes his place for granted.

These are the topmost issues which need to be addressed.. Openers too are not solid.

Ishant is rubbish. You missed that. But i guess we knew that before this series.

I agree with point 1 completely. Shocking bowling by Khan with speeds of 120 kph in most of his spells. Time for him to retire.
Ashwin is struggling for impact on bouncy pitches (4 test matches is a good enough sample size). Jadeja will be the frontline spinner going forward. If Jaddu fails, Ojha should be tried.
Rohit is potential 50+ average player for India. The guy is playing his 2nd test in these conditions (Pujara failed in 2 tests in SA in 2010, Kohli did not score much till 4th test in Aus in 2011). Too early to write him off, IMO.

I will add
4) Dhoni is a certified FTB if he continues to hide at number 7 in overseas tests and bats at number 6 in home tests.
5) Dhoni's captaincy needs to be questioned as well. You dont pick 3 fast bowlers and then hide from taking new ball till forced by umpires. Extremely defensive tactics. India played for a draw on day 4, they deserve to lose. Draw will allow Dhoni to escape without criticism. His captaincy and role in test cricket has to be questioned.
6) Ishant Sharma needs to be dropped for good 3 years and needs to play county cricket or shield cricket and display that he can takes wicket in alien conditions. I see no improvement in his bowling. Bowling short length with 130-135 pace is not going to get wickets of international batsmen. Sooner India realize this, better for the team. I am hoping Steyn breaks his foot with a toe crushing yorker to rule him out for NZ test series so :msd cannot pick him.

Agree with you on all points! Especially the last toe crushing one :))

I think that's exactly what we've seen. Vijay, Pujara and Kohli showing fight and no-one else.

Well, Indians dominated the first 3 days of the first test and match ended in a draw due to their inept bowling. Now 2nd test is going till the last day with draw being still a remote possibility for Indians.

I had expected some individuals making a fighting 70-80 and may be one hundred but Indians still losing both test easily. Apart from those 3 names, I thought Rahane showed some character by taking lot of blows on his body but still willing to come forward. He didn't farm the strike well though. Early days but this newbie team showed lot more fight than I expected. Statement was based on my previous expectation of SA winning both tests easily and Indians getting rolled below 200 more than once.

The same bowling that put them in that position in the first place. I don't think many expected an easy series for SA. Kohli and Pujara have been very good and Vijay has chipped in as well.

Dhawan has been abysmal as has the rest of the batters.

Shami has been very good and Jadeja bowled well when he was asked to.

Losing 1-0 or 2-0 won't make a huge difference if you do indeed lose. I still think a draw is more the likely result than either team winning.

Both teams will be disappointed by the chances they've spurned.

.

My bet is on SA to pull a win here. I expect SA to chase 30-40 odd runs and win it easily. Indians did bat well so far but saving a test match may be bit tricky for them. One wicket in morning and SA will be all over. I expect Steyn to bowl a hostile spell again. He did bowl a hostile spell earlier without getting any wickets but it helps other bowlers as well.
