If anything the ball is keeping low here and the bouncer are ballooning like tennis balls. I'm just saying 280 is a good score on an proper hard and bouncy seaming S.A wicket even by a good side on such wickets. The fact that India got it on this pitch...says a lot about the pitch.

Therein is the masterstroke isnt it mate, these ruddy worthless Indians are scoring, must be a flat pitch as they are useless. I feel you...

Ashwin is a good batsman, period. We can afford to play extra bowler instead of Vijay

Yes, get back Gambhir and play Extra Spinner in place of Rahane (he did no magic! Rahane's selection would have been justified had he stayed till the end with 85* or something, whereas his 40+ contribution is possible even with guys like Jadeja & Ashwin) or Rahane can open the innings and see (as he does in Ranji)

S.A need to be positive from the start and not bother with the "see out the new ball" mentality.

Peterson playing for his career? de Kock is knocking on the door.

I also heard the commies saying that today would be the easiest day to bat on it. Just saying.

They are not oracle incarnate to predict rain and stuff. The fact that all of them, Indian, SAfrican or neutral commies were saying the same thing, isnt that something!

South African commeis don't seem to enjoy praising opposition a lot. Great delivery, batsman beaten................ SILENCE.
When Steyn or Morkel do it... they are all excited :shastri

Most commentators are like that the difference is they don't plug their board every 2 seconds.

Must be very embarrassing for these top teams that there is hardly any crowd watching them. Anyway, I don't understand why people are happy of 280 score. SA batsman have 3 that average 50+ and then the rest 35+ and they are bound to surpass 400.

how does that matter anyway, didn't that you long to label it a very flat pitch performance.

If it wasn't flat not even 1 guy would get a score. Kohli would be hopping and jumping. Yes I am entirely saying I don't think any of these guys are good enough to score a hundred on a wicket that isn't mostly flat.

That will not aid the argument that Indians have done well even if they did not reach par score.

I live in JHB and there's nobody in town to go to the cricket. Whose idea do you suspect it was it to play in JHB anyway when everyone is on holiday in Cape Town, Durban and P.E. ?

(Clue JHB is the ground India have done best here on.)

Shami is bowling at 140+ kph
Zaheer is bowling at 130+ kph

Are they trundlers :13:

Seriously! out of a billion people, India should be having 100s of better bowlers than him so not really a find. He's not even that quick compared to someone like Johnson.

He is pretty decent relatively speaking to the rest. Decent pace and swing.

Never noticed it until now, but Petersen's pull shot looks pretty good.

38 year old Jacque Kallis was bowling mid 130's. Is he quick ?

I admit Steyn and Morkel were down on pace the first innings though. Lower 140's on average.

sorry but Allan Donald thinks otherwise. So does many others, I would rather take their word on this.

im hoping for indian win. 2-3 wicket ala will make a mini collaps.. would be fun to watch

All pandering for IPL jobs. Pathetic. In his heart if he was still playing he would absolutely lick his lips at this sight of this line up.

We'll talk after India's next few away tours about how good this lot are. And it's not their fault, it's the pitches they play on. I'm not a fan of that style of pitch.

Maybe other boards don't pay them enough. Gavaskar and Shastri have been paid millions for being BCCI spokesmen.

I seriously feel pity on how easy it is for keyboard warriors to challenge integrity of someone like Donald that too based on such an illogical argument.

Sample this:

Donald is hired by a corporate franchise as a coach not by BCCI and he already has a steady job there, do you really think some corporate house (answerable to their shareholders) will dump Donald (which reduces their chances of winning IPL and hence profitability) just because Donald was harsh in his assessment of Indian team in SA?
Seriously, if this is so, you have no clue on how corporate sector works.

Or maybe you think India is a monolith with everyone jingoistic, vindictive and speaking the same voice.

Both of the above are pretty ignorant.

On the other note, absolutely agreed! We will wait for some other tours for further comments on this.

Are you seriously asking me if I think the BCCI is capable of being petty and vindictive ? Seriously ?

Donald is aware that Indian cricket team are revered like demi gods and according to the fans beyond anyone but an India fan to criticize. Donald knows which side his bread is buttered. If he was young and playing today he would show this batsmen no respect and consider them nothing but walking wickets.

Thanks for you opinion or rather speculation on what Donald would think or not think, and why he is being professionally dishonest on press conferences.

I think he was speaking his mind as the "which side bread is buttered" argument is pretty weak.

Other boards aren't always up to money, power crazed shennigans and injustices and hence heed to pay anyone to be spokesmen.

Which other boards aren't after money or power? Some boards may not be having much money or power, but that does not mean they will let go off any opportunity.

I'm just saying that all this feigned respect for how good the Indian batting is from the official S.A representatives is not at all the sentiment on the ground. When people heard India was finally going to tour they sentiment was "good so we can blow away these over hyped flat track bullies and put things in perspective."

The general perception of the South African fans, formed over series after series, is that India can not compete on our tracks and that undermines their batsmen and their averages. The other way around we've always competed in India.

Name me another board refusing to use technology that everyone else agrees is the best way ? Or who thinks they can dictate who the other board selects as their chairman ?

Good on you... Why so bitter? Your team is doing well, and the match may not last more than 4 days...

BCCI does not refuse to use technology, it has objections with some technologies that are in use - and the DRS has been somewhat exposed as feared by the BCCI.

Their opposition to chairman of other boards isn't right. But not only BCCI, but every other board will do such things if they can think they can dictate such terms.

Why do you think the UNSC has only six permanent members and only some nations have the power of Veto? Why don't you fight for your country's inclusion in those listings? Do you think the big fives are going to care? Those with money and power will always dictate terms, whether you like it or not. And whoever has the power, whether it is BCCI or ECB or whoever else will put their selves over others at any point of time.

Actually I'd suggest our cultures and sense of fair play greatly differ if that's how you see things.

Wow India out 280 and only add 25 runs today, SA slowly taking the game away from India.

I don't see why South Africa bother with Imran Tahir. All he bowls are half track filth and juicy half volleys/full tosses. Might as well drop him, play Duminy as the spinner, and pick an additional batsman or a specialist wicketkeeper. Giving Duminy some experience as a bowler would also stand them in good stead when Kallis retires.

I can see why you say that going on yesterdays performance. But ask the Pakistan fan's why. He was Warne like on the recent tour. I still expect him to play a part in this game.

He's an attacking spinner- fair enough, he can get wickets, on his day. But South Africa need a holding spinner, not a crap Stuart MacGill bowling 2 or 3 boundary balls an over.

Wickets against Pakistan should be taken with the same pinch of salt that one would take when looking at home runs scored by FTBs.

Smith is frustrating to watch mean while Alviro might click here

It wasn't the wickets. He was just bowling great. Very few loose balls and turning it a distance both ways. And he's always done well on the domestic scene here where spinners always struggle. I don't think he's lost that over 2 weeks and expect him to play a big role still in the series. As you said Dumminy can play the holding spinner role.

only hope for :tahir would be if some rough is created or India comes under a substantial deficit

If these two see out the ball for the next 10 overs it's a very nice platform for Amla and Kallis to come get hundreds on.

Why would you try to take on the short stuff before you're even set?

It's not about taking on the balls. Those were two awkward leaves, ducking from length. He should have kept his eyes on the ball, specially when the bounce can be uncertain at times.

Yeah, lets question the technique of the batsmen who averages an excess of 50 and a batsmen who has a triple in England next to his name :))

India needed a couple out with the new ball.

South Arfica doing well here, and scoring at a fair rate too. India wasted too much time trying to see out little periods.

Feel SA will start to boss the game soon unless India pick up regular wickets.

Conditions are not bad for batting either - India were just too timid.
