Kohli is a natural stroke maker. He is the best ODI bat going around these days. He rarely gets tied down even while struggling. I would not normally expect to see Kohli make 20 off 75 - he will either get out quickly if it is not his day or score big and fast. So you can't compare the scoring rates of different players. Indian strategy looked good to me until that unfortunate run out.

Indian batsmen did not get a practice match here, and ODIs don't give good practice for a test match. So Indian batsmen did well by being careful and patient, if they had gone down 6/80 now in the name of being aggressive, they would be in deep trouble in the test already.

I'm not saying they batted badly. Far from it. I'm just saying that we need to bat exceptionally if we are going to win especially with our weak bowling attack. Scoreboard pressure is the only way Saffers may lose this.

Cricinfo:

Sidhant Goel: "At the end of 57 overs, Steyn and Philander had the EXACT same figures, 16 overs, 2 maidens, 38 runs, 1 wicket, 78 dot balls, 5 fours and no sixes hit off their bowling, and an economy rate of 2.37! Talk about coincidences!!"

He has to concentrate now,and not be satisfied, now comes the testing time for :kohli

I would go on and say this knock was the first meaningful one from him in tests. He has held the young batting line up together. Certainly is a leader..

hopefully SA are into Indian tail before 2nd new ball, tail cannot survive new ball on this pitch and will collapse quickly. Go SA!!

Well Played Kohli but I was more impressed with Pujara possesses great composure

Great knock from kohli, guess the only real mark against him in his test career so far is he hasn't gone on to a big ton but pitch looks like a good one to make a huge hundred.

It's great to see Indians putting Imran Tahir in his place after Pakistan made him look like the second coming of Shane Warne

Why is that a Virat Kohli's 100 gets soo much media attention on cricinfo. But when Asad Shafiq or Khurram Manzoor got a 100 against Southafrica ( the latter on a debut). There was no coverage on that at all.

You know why, it's not some conspiracy against pakistan it's just economics if you run a major cricket site you would be nuts not to aim your content at the indian market.

Thanks, ICC for the 90 overs rule. Imran Tahir and Duminy bowl the majority of remaining overs or Smith sits out the next game :)

Yea well honestly its unfair, coz considering none of the talent that pakistan has on display ever gets promoted enough to get into the category of emerging player of the year, or other relevant awards for the youngsters. Taking nothing away from Virat it was a very good innings. Not something a Pakistan batsman ever achieved. Except probably Younis Khan

While talents like Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan are really under appreciated. Shami makes airwaves as the next Kapil Dev with his bowling performance against a minnow team like West Indies

Kohli threw his wicket away. Never mind, one learns from mistakes. Hopefully he learns from his mistake today.

Oh boy, Kohli succumbs to friendly banter from Kallis. Key time to get a key wicket, just a bit before the new ball

Kohli No No
What a Class player he is Love watching him Bat

Now India can get all out Under-300
