I understand test cricket , but when the bowler are bowling a lot of good balls one is bound to take you sooner or later. Good batsmen do not let bowlers dictate their terms , theytry to change their line and length by improvising which does not necessarily have to be a slog. Try watching pietersen and clarke. Rotation of strike is another thing. Do not let a bowler to set up up batsman by allowing him to bowl all 6 deliveries at him. Batting planning is missing. Survival should also have some purpose.
Clark and KP are world class batsmen, with a very solid technique against seamers. Comparing them with tulas is not a justice to their methodic agression.
One thing I do complain about Pakistan batting strategy is that somebody has to be developed to play carefree stroke making role without that you just cannot have a strong batting lineup. That role has to be developed rather than assuming any batsmen can perform that role. Umar Akmal was suitable for that role, he has shots and technique to be developed into that role, but I don't think team strategy thinks that as a must have skill team needs, which is disappointing. You need to dedicate a slot to for that role, he will not always be successful but will give the balance the team needs.
For example KP gets away with bad dismissals that others in English team are not allowed to, simply KP is different class of player and has that aggressive role others don't have in their batting. AUSes prefer Warner (who technique is not probably as good) as one of the opener, because of the aggressive value he adds to the team. With Jamshed we may have somebody that can have that role.
Great batting lineups have always aggressive players that made a difference. Pakistan rarely has those type of players, that one of the reason we are not a strong batting unit, specially in seaming conditions. The part of the reason is that we don't look to develop and fill that role. Umar Akmal plays one bad shot whole Pakistan is after him and he is dropped for next 3 series... He will be forced to change his game and approach, with this attitude we will never develop stroke makers... Others are not measured with the same yard stick, for example see the pitch map of Younis Khan, he has gone out 70% of the time against seamers on balls that should have left (2 feet outside the off-stump)... One has basic technical flaws, other got out because of aggression, one is punished other gets the lee way...
Don't get me wrong, I think Misbah is doing excellent job as a player and Captain. The only thing I want to see a color of aggression (not by everybody) but as a strategy that needs to be addressed in the batting lineup. Umar Akmal looks like the best bet but maybe management has a reason to think otherwise. Umar Akmal still has a time to develop more patients and defense (which is also important) but I am afraid those things are hard to develop in Pakistan Domestic cricket (like all batsmen are finding out in SA).
