South Africa vs Pakistan | 3rd ODI | Centurion | Jan 25, 2019 | Pakistan Innings Thread

I don't understand the hate against Imam, he looks pretty decent and is young.. He is working on his fitness and taking quick singles which will reduce the dot ball percentage drastically..

Give him some time he will be a decent opener for Pakistan.

for ODI , Yes...need to stick with him

Fakhar had a decent NZ UAE series and is just coming after an injury but still cant justify the way he is being dismissed

Jamshed’s technical deficiencies were exposed by South Africa, and he never recovered. Fakhar is treading on the same path.

Jamshed by then had decided that he was going to prolong his career by accumulating his way through each innings whereas Fakhar really doesn't want to hang around to nudge singles and doubles. You cant compare the two.

Jamshed v Imam would be a better comparison

This is another reason mature teams don't appoint WK as Captain, unless it becomes a crisis - WK has to be on field for every ball.

4 overs 9-1

Why is Grant Flower still our batting coach??????

Valid question! To often the captain, head coach and selectors are thrown under the bus while the batting coach is rarely called out.

9 off 21 on a batting pitch as an opener.

Im sorry id rather you get out just like Fakhar did

Pakistan's issue has been looking for too many shots all the time rather than looking to dab and run for ones and two's.

See what I mean? Charging down and missing after playing continuous dots. Just give Babar the strike if you can't score

well i have come to the conclusion that we can only chase....which is a miracle itself..they dont have a clue how to set a target

Every over they can get 4-5 in ones or two's and keep the score ticking. In between they can hit a bad ball for 4 too.

Babar needs to take control here the way Kohli would. He needs to carry these bodies!

Paks top 4 should be imam azhar shan asad (as the saying goes on this forum pak fans deserve this humiliation)..

Jamshed by then had decided that he was going to prolong his career by accumulating his way through each innings whereas Fakhar really doesn't want to hang around to nudge singles and doubles. You cant compare the two.

Jamshed v Imam would be a better comparison

Imam technique wise is atleast 10 times a player Jamshed was and is mentally more stronger though Jamshed had more strokes and I am pretty sure Imam will improve with time

Hendricks bowling quicker already than most of our bowlers.
At 142kph.

Shaheen and Hassan both were consistently in 140s in last match and Shaheen recently clicked 147kph in NZ series but just like every other thing we are not even pacy enough consistently.

He was hit on the helmet in England thrice, and got a life in the final.

He will fail against good bowling in any conditions 8/10 times.

Champions Trophy was his moment in the sun, where everything went his and the team’s win.

Thats not how it works, You have to have some kind of game that works to be able to play the innings he did. Otherwise anybody could do it. Also who is to say things wont go his way again? Targeting anyone with short bowls in England is risky due to shorter grounds and lower bounce.

Pakistan have played a few good shots straight to the fielders

Fakhar was never good gains pace, far from it. His real skill was hacking his way out of first 10 and then go after spinners, that’s how he made that 💯

Where as Sharjeel was much better at pull and cut of 145 clicks and was special from our standards....

Fakhar days are numbered, Mickey is keep play for hope not substance, he will be dropped in next match.

Wth how is that not a six?

The ball crossed the boundary? Didn't the rule change?

Boundary shots being blocked, sixes being saved. Pakistan are atleast 20 runs short of what they should be at the moment

Both are the key players for Pak on the crease but Fakhar’s early departure would need atleast 1 of them to push it a little ideally without too much risk.

Pakistan need to ride this period out, sometimes the bowling has a good phase. You can’t beat yourself over it.

watching Imam bat u cant tell what are his scoring areas. what are his strengths??
he just runs down the wicket when pressure of dot balls gets to him

I understand why people are frustrated with Fakhar Zaman, but he is hardly been that bad . . .

His last 5 ODIs starting from today:

2
26
25
65
88

People mention his ICC champions trophy finals innings, but we forget his innings against England, South Africa and Sri Lanka when he made 31, 50, 57 and then 114 . .

People also forget when we were falling like house of cards in NZ this time last year, I believe he was the highest scorer for Pakistan . .

so its unfair to say that its only that Zimbabwe that has inflated his stats . .

Agreed he hasn't looked great in this tour . . and I get the feeling he is a confidence player . .

The other part is what kind of wickets don't suit him . . The pitches in the first 2 games are exactly hte kind of wickets that Fakhar isn't great at . . not to say, he shouldn't improve . . but its his weak point . . The pitches in England suit his kind of batting!

Anyway, like I said . not defending how bad he has looked on this tour . . but just saying . . we need him! he has been good for the last 2 years . . and we have bigger issues in this batting line up! We need to give him the confidence and tell him he will be opening come the world cup!

Dented Pakistan’s psyche.

Yeah. This game is still there to be won, there isn't a whole lot in the pitch, Pakistan batsmen are struggling to score, and then you can see them tossing wickets through pressure of slow run rate.

Amazing fielding by the young man, he is having a great time and putting in his 200%.. This is how a youngster should debut give it your all in field and with the ball..

One sentence for mark Nicholas underlined by 50 words of verbiage by Rameez.

Fakhar definitely has his technical weaknesses. However he was our best batsman in the New Zealand whitewash last year, so it's not like he's a failure in foreign conditions

We lack powerful openers especially in the absence of Sharjeel so dropping him isn't an option.
