After turning their fortunes in their recently concluded Test series against India will Sri Lanka be able to compete in the 3-match ODI series or will they just crumble like they did against Pakistan?

India: 1 Rohit Sharma (capt), 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Shreyas Iyer, 4 Manish Pandey, 5 Dinesh Karthik, 6 MS Dhoni (wk), 7 Hardik Pandya, 8 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9 Kuldeep Yadav, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal.

Sri Lanka: 1 Upul Tharanga, 2 Danushka Gunathilaka, 3 Lahiru Thirimanne, 4 Angelo Mathews, 5 Asela Gunaratne, 6 Niroshan Dickwella (wk), 7 Thisara Perera (capt), 8 Sachith Pathirana, 9 Suranga Lakmal, 10 Akila Dananjaya, 11 Nuwan Pradeep.

why not try out more youngsters in these meaningless ODI's?

I simply don't understand the reason behing playing the likes of Dhoni, Karthik etc.

India could have easily tried out Samson or Pant or Ishan Kishan etc in place of MSD. Then Mayank Agarwa/Shankar in place of Karthik. There is nothing to lose here. A loss against SL does not matter. If one of these young ones click, India will have more options going into the future.

Everything is just potential unless BCCI starts testing new talent. A perfect opportunity being wasted on oldies whom we already know what they can do.

Karthik playing to save the Test match here. No attempt to even take a single.
 
No good reason why KL & Rahane weren't played in this game, DK really? Just shows where the collective heads of Sharma & Shastri are!

Agreed. What's the pint of Karthik? Why not KL Rahul?

Seriously pathetic selections. The likes of Jadhav and Karthik should not play for India again.
 
13 balls and still not off the mark.

The ball is doing a bit. It is swinging and seaming. But no excuse to not even attempt a run by Karthik. I am hooping he fails and gets kicked out of the team. He is blocking the progress of KL.

Without Kohli, Rohit and Dhwan were supposed to be the go to batsmen. Once those 2 are gone, its over.

played like a chicken and did not even try to look for singles. It was only a matter of time before he gout out.

0(18). Haven't seen a more pathetic innings in a while from an Indian batsman.
 
That guy karthik is a real tailender. In his 18 ball duck, he put bat to ball on only 3 deliveries... :)))

Our ODI team is trash. Outside of Rohit/Dhawan/Kohli, the rest are total tools. Pandya is good for a few blows to finish off the innings.

Our Test batting is much better even in Testing conditions. I expect some big things from them. But our ODI and T20 teams are below average.

None of these batsmen are going to be a part of the Test XI ( I'm hoping KL Rahul plays ahead of Dhawan).

Vijay, Rahul, Pujara, Rahane and Kohli are much better against quality pace bowling.
 
Now, please don't call for Rahane again. He is equally rubbish. We are a poor ODI team, relying heavily on two players mostly, Kohli and Rohit. Take any match won by India in the last 2-3 years, 90% of the times one of Kohli/Rohit must have got runs in those matches.
 
Sanju Samson should have given a chance. Karthik is not our future and giving him chances is just a terrible planning.
 
Looks like the conditions might stay this way for another 1 hour. That will be 30 overs completed with less than 50 runs on the board :asif
 
Iyer and Pandey are at least trying to look for Singles. Karthik brother was leaving the balls or getting beaten trying to look like Gavaskar.

Sharma is a dud on seaming/swinging tracks, even after 10yrs of intl cricket, Kohli is hit & miss! At least with Rahane;s technique he can survive longer & potentially score runs, Sharma has failed without fail against the likes of Steyn, Amir, Lakmal when the ball moves. He's 10 rungs below SRT as an opener, shouldn;t be mentioned in the same breath as him ever!

Iyer seems the most comfortable from the lot we have on display, Manish has an ugly technique, will fail quite often if he plays that way!

Nobodys saying Rahane would have single-handedly saved the match here. But he deserved a place in the XI looking at the conditions here. None of these LOI superstars have the technique to bat here.

Also, its very important that he gets some given game time before the SA tour.

Dhoni will play a 100 ball 20 runs to remain not out.

Conditions are difficult. But not as difficult as Indian batsmen are making out to be.

Nobody tried to stand outside the crease to counter the swing and seam. No attempt to change bowlers length. Just standing in the crease and praying for the best.
 
This is probably the closest we'll get to conditions in SA, even more reason to play Rahane & KL, but alas the tubelights in Shastri & Sharma as well as the selectors is horribly :facepalm:

Good to see Dhoni trying to come down the pitch and counter the swing and seam.
 
What is India's lowest ODI score?

We might not even score 50 here.

Pandya should come and slog and hope for the best. Playing cautiously is no use. Every 2 or 3 balls, there is a jaffa that can clean up the best.
 
I wonder how much BK will swing the ball here. It might be the Aane Do series all over again.
 
Dinesh Karthiks duck in 18 balls is a record for Indian batsmen in ODIs (beating Eknath Solkars 17 balls).

Also, overall tied 8th for longest duck in ODIs (with Derek Underwood).

India should some how look for 100 runs. Can be winning total in these conditions.

This is our ODI team.

The likes of Vijay/Pujara/Rahane are much better than Dhawan/Rohit/Karthik/Iyer/Pandey etc. There is a difference between ODI and Test teams.

I remember NZ lost on a green pitch in a Test match in India the last time they toured.

Those were one day green tops which we ended up batting on. There was a little bit there come the second innings, but not that much or too long.
 
Manish Pandey and Karthik are walking wickets. And this guy shreyas looks over-confident and his attitude looks over the top. I truly wish we tried Rayudu for one last time.
 
India should hit out and get as many as they can.

The Green Tops in NZ are the same. Swings and Seams on Day-1, then becomes a total Road from Day-2 to Day-4.
 
Can we atleast score 55 runs? Our previous lowest against sri lanka was 54 when murali took a 7-fer.

India should have done that the moment we were 12/3 in 13 overs. It was clear that the conditions are not going to improve.

Pandya should have hacked like crazy. Tried to play cute and gave away his wicket.

I don't understand the point of playing from the crease. Ball is seaming like crazy.

Just step out and meet the ball and hope for the best.

I expect Lankans to stand outside the crease and not let the ball pitch and do something.

Probably going to end up as one of the shortest ODI's ever.
 
This pitch reminds me of the Bangladesh tour where we scored 100 odd and dismissed BD for 40-50.

Binny the legend ran through the BD line-up. That team was also a second string side.

This only shows Kohli-dependence of team India.

Also now Indian fans are savouring what we the Pakistanis have had to suffer for a while :misbah
