During the practice session on Tuesday, Shubman Gill stepped out against Axar Patel early on and gave his left-arm spin a hard whack. Footwork, a crucial aspect of India's game, had been entirely absent against the Sri Lankan spinners in the second ODI, which they lost. This defeat left them needing to salvage the series in the final game.

Five Indian batters were trapped LBW on Sunday, the joint-most such dismissals they have ever suffered in an ODI. Their troubles came from a leg-spinner who was only added to the squad a day earlier, bowling nothing more complicated than a consistent stump-to-stump line. Abhishek Nayar, India’s assistant coach, acknowledged the difficulties Indian batters faced in the middle overs for two consecutive games and the necessity to address those errors.

During the two-hour session, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli spent most of the time practicing. They hope their adjustments will serve them well in the final game of the ongoing Sri Lanka tour.

The loss in the second match has also prompted India to consider their options: field their best possible XI or experiment with an eye on the next big ICC tournament in six months. For the newly appointed Gautam Gambhir-led coaching staff, a loss would be a significant setback. They inherited a team that displayed some of India’s best ODI cricket less than a year ago, and despite early successes in their tenure, they wouldn’t want to end their two-week trip to the south with more questions than answers.

Sri Lanka has a chance here to stun India once again.
Kl Rahul should be rested.

Sri Lanka have won the toss and have opted to bat

Nissanka has started off well here. He knows that he missed the boat in the lat game.

Not even know we have any match Today .

Olympic heartbreak is too much .

Ohh wow they dropped kL that is good news .

Finally Parag get the chance ,he can be very good batting allrounder at 6

I like these changes

Yes. good riddance. Pant should be there and he is now.

India would have been accused of making designer pitches if we dished out such stuff for our opponents even in a Test match.

Feels like a good time to get Siraj back for a 2 over burst.

But not pace on, but pace off, into the deck cutters.

Wow Lanka is in strong position.

Just check the scoreboard .lovely batting

Run rate is not much but this is a solid foundation for them to go big in last 15-20 overs.

If Sri Lanka win today, they can become #6 in ODI ranking and England would become #7.

Both England and SL have 95 points now.

Idiots are selecting team , what the need of 4 fast bowlers knowing srilanka will provide spin friendly pitches, Finally KL the garbage is thrown out , left dube and iyer ( KKR quota)

My boy Riyan Parag has break the partnership .

Dont care about this lose as ling as we find the balance.

Clearly need a batsman at 6 who can give you 4-5 overs .

just tuned in, pitch looks to be turning big but slow...
looks like SL will get a good score. and then their spinners will come into play with close in....
will be a very difficult task for our guys

Another wickets for Riyan Parag .

Well done lad . ICC champions trophy is waiting for you .

Rohit
Jaiswal
Virat
Gill
Pant
Parag
Hardik

This is very good batting order for champions trophy . Two left handed batsman in top 5 + Axar

Avishka Fernando's knock comes up just four runs short of a well-earned century

Parag has Sachin like dexterity with the ball, leg and off spin both. A bit of consistency wrt to length and he'd be a 10 over bowler in ODIs.

Sri Lanka can still crumble from here

They need 250 at least

Virat Kohli's aggressive celebration after Asalanka's wicket

He is pumped up

Mendis putting too much pressure on the other batters

Needs to put the foot down!

Last 9 overs 38/5, India are charging back in the game.

SL went from 165/1 in 35 overs 203/6 in 44 overs.

Innings Break

A couple of big hits in the final over get Sri Lanka to 248/7 from their 50 overs.

India have used 37 overs of spin today, their joint third-most in an ODI.

SL reach 248.

I think this is a good total. SL are looking good to make it 2-0.

ICC congratulates Madugalle on 400th ODI as Match Referee

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has congratulated Ranjan Madugalle on becoming the first Match Referee to officiate in 400 Men’s ODIs.

Madugalle, the longest-serving member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, reached the landmark in the third and final ODI between Sri Lanka and India in Colombo on Wednesday. To mark the achievement, he was presented with a plaque on behalf of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the ICC by SLC CEO Ashley de Silva.

Madugalle, a stylish batter who played 21 Tests and 63 ODIs for Sri Lanka, has also refereed in a record 216 Men’s Test matches, 163 Men’s T20Is, 14 Women’s ODIs and eight Women’s T20Is.

Sean Easey, ICC Senior Manager of Umpires and Referees praised Madugalle for reaching this milestone in his career that has already spanned over three decades.

Sean Easey: “Ranjan’s portfolio of refereeing assignments is large and this latest mark of 400 ODIs is quite incredible.

“The sheer volume of his work reflects the kind of passion he has for cricket and his role. On behalf of the ICC, I thank Ranjan for his hard work and wish him all the best for this match and beyond.”

Madugalle said he had enjoyed officiating in matches the world over and he never thought he would have such a long career as a match official.

Ranjan Madugalle: “It has been a great honour and privilege to have officiated in international cricket for so many years and it’s almost dreamlike to be reaching this milestone.

“I was pleased when I got the opportunity to be associated with the game after my time as a cricketer but never thought that it would stretch to over three decades!

“During this period, I have had the chance to officiate all over the world and in several World Cups, relishing every moment.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the ICC, Sri Lanka Cricket and my colleagues with whom I have worked over the years for their support and friendship, as well as my family and friends, without whose support it would not have been possible to have come this far.”

Ranjan Madugalle as a player and Match Referee:

Played 21 Tests and 63 ODIs for Sri Lanka between 1979 and 1988, including his country’s first-ever Test Match and in three World Cups – 1979, 1983 and 1987

He scored 1,029 Test runs, including one century, and added a further 950 runs in ODI cricket

His first appointment as an ICC Match Referee was in December 1993 for the Test Match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe at Karachi

His first ODI appointment came later the same month between the same two teams at the same venue

His 31-year career as an ICC Match Referee is the longest by anyone in history

In total, he has refereed a record 216 Men’s Test Matches and now a record 400 Men’s One Day Internationals, as well as 163 Men’s T20 Internationals

He was Match Referee for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Finals in 1999, 2003, 2015 and 2019, and officiated in a total of seven World Cups

He was also Match Referee for the finals of ICC Champions Trophy 2004, 2006 and 2013 and of ICC Men’s T20 World Cups of 2007, 2010, 2016 and 2021

He has also refereed 14 Women’s ODI matches and eight Women’s T20 Internationals

Third umpire drama: Rishabh Pant slows stump, bat in the air. screen says Out, then Not Out

Comedy of errors!

LBW in his last two innnigs. How will Virat get out today? Or will he not get out at all?

Kohli goes on these long holidays with his family then suddenly turns up for a tour.

Can this work?

One partnership is now required...we are in bit of a trouble

shreyas Iyer is a mental midget, why do they keep giving him chances

I think they may struggle in all 3 formats without Bumrah.
Bumrah makes there team stronger but even without Bumrah they are still strong in t20, having him makes them even stronger. But ODI even with Bumrah they seem to be really strong at home only

Too many LBWs and bowleds is not a good sign for a senior player's career. Dont think Kohli is going to play a long time more for India, and he wont get a lot of chances under GG

Parag and Dube are dangerous young players. India can still do it
The way our players are playing against spinners we are not far from losing a test series in india .

How bad we become against spinner's.

Parag bhai did not Play a straight ball.

What a humiliation this is turning out

Parag what was that hahaha brainless overrated player India have no clue vs Lanka Spinners

Not many good spinners around the world so India should still remain invincible in home tests

I think India are still in T20 mood and haven't come out of World Cup Hangoever... India may lose Test Series in Australia under Gambhir...

what was the time India lost a ODI series against Lanka. at least not in the last few years

It is official!

India cannot play spin anymore!

Comprehensive series win by Lanka 🇱🇰 🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰

Remind me of T20 worldcup 2021 at UAE where toss win decide match , here also same complete different conditions under lights.

This is a excuse .toss is not a big factor .

We are really bad against spinners
Nay, if srilanka batted 2nd they would also struggled badly, there is big turn and bounce under lights but not much turn when batting first.
Srilanka batters are even worse players of spin than India

I'm not buy this toss excuse anymore.

The way our players are playing against spinners is mind blowing.

I am not giving excuses, in this type of condition no current batting line cup will survive .
If In the place of india , any other team is playing then still same result will happen.
If it's going to rank turner then both innings must same condition then we can decide better player of spin or not .
This type of unbalanced condition will always put one team great advantage

Outside of Rohit, no one has turned up to play.

The likes if Iyer, Dube, Pant have done nothing. Gambhir must be super upset. :misbah

We are not going to find this type of condition in anywhere, all over its going to be batting paradise.

The pitch looks like a 5th day Test pitch in India.

However, that should not be an excuse. Surrendering meekly is horrible. No fight shown by anyone.

Dube is copy of shankar, don't bat/ bowl/ field properly
Iyer is KKR quota of gambir
KL is KL ( biggest conman and selfish padder)
