Sri Lanka v India l 1st Test l Colombo | 23/7/08 | INDIA THRASHED!

As I was saying if we couldnt see Murali off then its over, still can hope for rain though..

Man the crowd is dead.

Waqar is cracking me up!

'oooooooooooooo'

'aaaaaaaaaaaaaa'

That was hitting middle stump - no referral though.

Who are the umpires?

Ganguly 3rd time lucky, :))) :)))

Cant believe they didnt appeal for Ganguly.. Maybe just trying to be good hosts :) Thanks Sri Lanka....Meanwhile VVS lemon looking edgy as hell is there any way to convince him that he is playing OZ not Srilanka ?

asian test championship would be great right now!! pak would get battered but it would be interesting!

Believe it or not, they didnt appeal for this :))

Have to admit, in realtime it really seemed it was bat first, also because of the woody sound

Ganga goes....

If they keep playing like this, only rain/bad light can save them...

India in big trouble now - 5 down and the follow on looming. No Dhoni either.

Kumble: "We have probably the best batting line up in the world"

And India have now lost 5 of the very best. :younis

I think the bowlers are more to blame in the end... they let Lanka cruise to 600, and i could see 800+ on the cards if they didnt declare

SL is pretty used to scoring 8/900+ runs vs India! They like India's bowling. :P

come on karthik, come on Lax

Well, Karthik better score here to make up for his "kamran-like" display behind the wickets otherwise this may be his last test. Patil and the Dhoni are ready to take his place.

So, now Lanka has to clean up the tail and the full batting line-up again in two days....

They should be able to do that, weather permitting

Kaptaan Kumble walks out. I wonder if his comments are running through his head right now...

he has formed a few crucial partnerships and saved us latley

So who would you rather have come in then? Dhoni or Kartikh?

And people were defending Dhoni for opting out of a test series!

154-6

Murali bowling some corkers!

How has the new boy Mendis done?

He's prioritising his games in order of importance.

So as far as he is concerned, he is saving himself for the main games & photoshoots.

It may look funny watching India capitulating like this. Our lot would have done even worse.

Really? Last time we played here, we WON the test series.... and it was not too long ago!

Sadly I'm going to be busy for the next few days so can't participate on the match thread with full gusto but I thought I would slip this in before that

"Best players of spin" ROFLOL

Best of all was Tendulkar getting out to Murali while leaving the ball :younis :asif :poodle

I'm sure Indian fans would rather see Dhoni coming to the crease than Karthik.

Kumble made a HUGE mistake by not playing Patil in this match. He was in tremendous batting form in domestic cricket.

We have probably the best batting line up in the world. Why do indians like to hype themselves up so much?

India dont have the patience to play Test cricket - thats what a glut of T20 does to you.

Sometimes the best bowling line does not take wickets

Sometimes the best players of fast bowling get out to top pace bowlers

etc, etc

Yeh, we saw that in this on-going test.

Who said that ? Did any of the top 4 in the Indian line up claim that ? was it Sehwag/Gambir ? or was it our bowlers who claimed that ?...

What are you talking about Oxy ? Barring Ganguly who played a slog to get out others were foxed by Murali..

Anil Kumble at the start of the toss.

Kumble said at the toss: "Our batting line-up is probably the best in the world and even the bowling looks balanced"

And i dont think he was very much wrong in that... Tendulkar, Sehwag, Ganguly, Dravid. It surely seems probably ONE of the best to me.....

Yes, surely some of these batsmen have declined in recent times, but still....

Once again, it was their "balanced" bowling which is to blame. I dont know what they have against RP singh, he is so much better than these guys on this type of wicket imo. I really would've played him

RP is easily my favorite bowler of the lot. But he wouldnt have been that effective on these type of pitched. ENG and aus pitches are the best for him.

Its their unexplained "love" for Bhajji whcih is at the root of everything. surely an average seam bowler is better than a bad spinner

They have declined considerably. Especially dravid and tendulkar. Gambhir was probably their best batsman going in.

really?? sach scored 2 100's recently in aus. Its only dravid in a bad form atm.

Some brilliant batting and wonderful bowling by Sri Lankans :14: !!! Well played :19: !!!

Ajantha Mendis´ delivery to get his first Test wicket, that too of Rahul Dravid, was an unbelievably unplayable one :9: .....

Doesn't that say something about how good he used to be. Yea he got some form in australia but he's nothing like he used to be... not very reliable.

lol love that attitude u got considering sl knocked the real "we" out of the asia cup on purpose.

After reading the internet - I was under the impression that India have the best batsmen ever, and also the best bowlers ever.

However, in reality thats seems not to be the case.

Indeed, i dont know how u could say that tendu has declined.... he might have declined somewhat an both dravid & tendu had a bad 2006, but while dravid continues his decline, tendu came back! He still would get a spot in ANY Test team imo

I didnt say anything about 'shot selection' - merely the thought of being in the field for 5 days is no longer of paramount cricketing importance.

Mind is wandering...

T20 wandering.......

Funny how the 'best batting lineup in the world' hasn't won a test series (sans minnows) in a year. But India don't have to win test series to be the best, just as long as they lose 2-1 to Australia every few years they are out-right no.1

:14:

Well I went to the airport, SL were 592 for 6.

I get home, India are 158 for 6. Gee must be a flat track eh?

Look out everybody, it's the team with the best batting line up in the world and the best bowling line up in the world, and the best captain in the world who just cost India this game by being too "tired" to play.

:))) :))) :))) :)))

And Dravid, who Kumble said would play straight and take care of Mendis. Well that worked real well. :))

Do the Indian crew here still think this is going to be a draw?

i thought the best bowling line up in teh world was saf :p geez, what changed ur mind?
I still believe it will be a draw. It better rain:D

Maybe because this year they have played ONLY two series, lost one to Aus and drew with SA

Previous to that they won series against WI( in WI), England (in england) and Pak

I believe your bowling coach claimed India had the best bowling attack in the world :D

I think it was bishop also who more or less said that most batsmen were out due to attacking shots

And I predicted this will happen.

Tendu, Gangs, Dravid ... all too old ... and not playing in the ODIs makes them even more rusty.

Indian strategy of having different ODI and Test teams coming undone.

Sanjay Manjrekar wrote on cricinfo after day 1 that India look the better team...lol

what a jackass he looks like now. Only a few overs were bowled on day 1 and the score was 85/2, still the idiot concluded "India look the better team".

Next day he posts..."Sri Lanka can't lose this match" What a confused guy!!!

India in trouble here but Laxman the man for a crisis is still there and kumble is no mug with the bat. Sri lanka will do well to win game from here because bowling india out twice cheaply may prove difficult.

some people forgetting that this is a test series .....its not the first time a touring side has struggled in the first two days of the series .....still too early to conclude whos the better side here !

That's almost up there with Yuvraj's "Australian pitches will suit my batting." :))

Umm it was the spinners that got him out in Aus :)) fair enough if it was the quickies..

where did I specify it was the pacemen? Anyway, what did he average? 6 or six or something? :14:

It will be a draw, wait and watch

day 4 will have India following on and batting and batting

day 5 will have RAIN :)

The "worlds best bowling attack" label tends to change depending on which bowling attack is currently getting hammered. :P

I agree but I think his captaincy in one form sways his decision quite a bit.

If his position in both forms was the same (ie. either not captain in both forms or captain in both forms) I believe he would probably be skipping ODIs rather than tests.
