I can't speak for the folks who don't care if we lose to Sri Lanka. I find it incredibly shortsighted to not assess every performance between now and December 2016 as how it builds towards a more effective team.
I mean do we really need to be considered astute followers of the game for knowing that Hafeez is a rubbish batsman. It is a reality that Misbah, Yk, Hafeez (I apologize to Misbah and Yk for mentioning them in the same group as Hafeez) will need to go by the end of this year, because that's how professional sports works: you don't get to play forever.
And it doesn't matter how many young batsmen fail between now and the end of 2016. The answer will never be to take two 40 year old guys to tour.
well ramiz saying asad shafiq plays spin better than most others in the line up...comedy king
Our opening pair is the worst among test nations!!!!
Cant afford to lose anymore wickets tonight!
Younis never looked settled out there, and a terrible way to get out.
He did become settled and was manoeuvring the field really well, then threw it all away.
We have an amazing ability to keep shooting ourselves in the foot.

2010 was 5 years ago, so I am not sure what your point is there?Remind me of what happened when we left our two best batsmen at home in 2010 (YK & Yousuf) and took the youngsters to England. You always play your best batsmen in test regardless of age. There are 4 other batting slots and in the last decade we've developed 1 decent test class batsman (Azhar). Nodoubt Misbah will retire soon enough and another slot will open but if no domestic batsmen has even been able to oust Shafiq from the no. 6 spot then i'm not too optimistic of our future middle order prospects.
Shafiq and Sarfraz partnership has clicked in recent times, badly needed today.
How much to avoid follow on? 150?
If true, then it is unprofessional of Younis to be fasting while playing international cricket. He is on national duty, and that comes first.
If he can't skip fasts while playing then he should not play at all during Ramzan, rather than not be at his best because of his religious beliefs.
Mamoon being optimistic.Today is a blessed day indeed.
200 right? Have they changed the rules?
Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay say Hi.
No such thing as optimism or pessimism; just stating a fact, these two have good chemistry and a partnership would do nicely here.
we are heading towards follow on

What is follow on requirement?
Lets bash the guy who made more runs then the rest of the top 5 combined . A sleeping Younis is better than most of these 'batsmen' let alone a fasting one.
You've called yourself a pessimist many times in the past.
We won't even get to 200 now. Lets all pray for rain.
That's besides the point. He should not be fasting while playing for Pakistan and if he lost his concentration because he was getting weary, then it is very unprofessional of him, and I hope the management ensures that players should not be fasting on match days.
200 right? Have they changed the rules?
Since the first day was washed out, won't follow on requirement be 150 ?

Still last pair is playing, and both have some good knocks in history regarding this situation. so hoping against hope
I think 50 runs are subtracted when a day's play is washed out. Not sure though thats why asking,
Pakistan yet to avoid the follow-on. The mark is 151
You already got 100 runs, SL scored 300.
So now you need 1 run to avoid follow on.
I was right then
Cricinfo says
in this case it is 150.
incorrect. commentator just said 150.
