The Misbah-ul-Haq Captaincy Analysis Thread

This is why its important for a coach like Whatmore to come in, change the way we approach ODIs, work out a new strategy with the captain Misbah and start playing ODI cricket, instead transferring Test cricket approach to ODIs.

The field settings were poor, we gave England easy singles and our ability to chase down totals is a concern. Anything more than 220, and we struggle.
 
Having Umar Akmal as the wk is a crime. How can a team that suffered so much due to Kamran Akmal still pick a part time wk is beyond me.

Having the likes of Afridi bowl with only 4 fielders in shows no sense what so ever. This turns into pure retardness when you have a new batsmen in yet you have 4 fielders in the ring.

That is why stats don't give the whole picture.

One has to see the full inning to know what really happened.

The selection was alright there but even further if he makes Adnan as wk there thats makes even better selection.

The OP is saying captaincy errors not his batting, the batting was fine.

You seem to be confusing with the objective rather than looking at the mistakes he does.

Adnan akmal should replace Abdur rehman
 
Misbah needs to be more strict and aggressive. He will net get the control over these players if he continue like this.

Hafeez gets a start, throws it away, and then walks back to dressig room thinking he has done enough.

Farhat playing so "well" and then runs himself out, again not getting a big score after the start.

Umar Akmal and Afridi also getting out at wrong time.

And why on earth send AR before Ajmal and Gul when we all saw how much AR struggled with bat in the Test matches?

And his love for Umar Gul should stop. Gul is too inconsistent and very expensive. After all these years he still hasn't found the right line and length.

Easy singles were given away. You can't win matches when you don't put preassure on the opposition. He was waiting for things to happen.

And you could already see the defeat on his face when he lost the Toss.

He should sit down with the boys and have a serious and tough talk with them and tell them they have to perform as there are other players ready to take over if they don't perform. I know this is probably not the best thing but he has to put some fear in them so they don't feel to secure about their places.
 
Gul playing too much cricket we should not give him too many matches and misbah also does not show any confiedence in his fast bowlers he belive spinners are wicket takers and quicks are just to stop runs he has reversed theory of cricket
One can clearly see what Gul and Wahab bowled in CWC 2011 and what they are bowling now Afridi was far better then Misbah using his quicks ... and let them expriment a bit
 
No problem with Misbah's captaincy

Seen enough cricket and really cant blame Misbah.

I have never seen anyone bat like this.... it is futile to bat first against India.
 
Him not having a slip for Ajmal was a mistake but when likes of Afridi and Gul bowl rubbish you can't do anything.

Tho a captain cannot bowl for his bowlers but i fail to understand why was he giving away free singles like 6 six singles every over and not looking to attack and look for wickets. Every time the Indian batting attacks us we just get unnerved the body language of the bowlers and fielders just drops as if they have given up on a win.
 
Misbah looked generally calm. Can't do much when your bowlers are bowling garbage and Kohli is playing one of the best odi innings in history
 
how is he defensive? his field wasn't defensive, opened with Hafeez.... It's not Misbah's fault if bowlers like Afridi, GUl, Wahab suck
 
Wahab Riaz pretty much lost the game for; 50 runs off 4 overs is unforgivable. Imagine if those 4 overs had been distributed between Ajmal, Hafeez and Afridi; we would have saved atleast 20 runs. Our bowling was such a letdown today.
 
Of course Misbah can be blamed! Why take Hafeez off after his first over! Gifted India a flyer.

Then not keeping a slip for Ajmal

Then going BACK to Wahab with 10 overs to go - that was the moment that killed the game.

Misbah is simply not cut out for Limited Overs Captaincy
 
Terrible field setting by Misbah here. He's letting the batsmen rotate the strike very easily now.
 
He needs to get more fielders in when nasirs on strike, PP will help us
 
Why keep Ajmal for last 4 overs when Bangladesh is looking to attack Cheema/Hammad
 
Right now Perera was on 0. Ajmal was bowling to him. He had a long on in place allowing easy singles. Hafeez has bowled only 1 over before tea the whole innings despite their being a left hander out there all day. Very poor.

How about you get a life and actually watch the match instead of being in love with records. It was poor captaincy by Misbah.

And what's so funny about that. Perera was on 0 and there was a long on in place when Ajmal was bowling.

Because Perera can slog and we don't have runs to play with.

As for the records, those are facts. Your assessment of his captaincy is worth a dime a dozen with that pie in your face.

Because Perera 'can' slog. The guy is on bloody 0. He's a slogger and he's facing the NO.2 bowler in the world and you give him an easy single! What a pathetic statement to justify your true love.

Look you cant just make-up your mind by watching it on Tv. Maybe thats what Ajmal wants? Or maybe there is a plan to lure Parera to slog towards long on!
Nitpicking small things is the best way to make anybody look bad. Misbah is not perfect but still he is one of the best test captains Pakistan recently had.
He cant do anything when Sami is taking off pressure from the other side and Gul is being himself, Such a useless spear-head we have, cant take early wickets , cant reverse the older ball. Duh

Junaid Khan at point when Jayawardene(Prasana) favourite shot is square of the wicket on the off-side. I also remember in the ODI's during slog overs Umar Gul was placed at long on. Dropped Sangakara. Afridi at fine leg.

Perera did NOT take 5 "bloody" singles to long on. He played square of the wicket. That an Akmal fan boy wants to bump a thread for Misbah's field setting tells you all about the pathetic loneliness of the argument.

As for your expression of views, no one is stopping you. I am just here to blast them into pieces. If you can't handle that, then keep yourself to facebook.
 
Misbah is waiting for the new-ball. He doesn't want them to score freely in these 3 old ball overs i guess

It's very puzzling. I can only assume that the whole idea is to contain the runs as much as possible so the new ball bowlers can attack as much as necessary.
 
Long on to Perera is fine after Perera has hit you for a couple of sixes. A few boundaries and is on around 25*. But when he's on 0 facing Ajmal you allow him an easy single. That's the mistake. Then you have people in love (BB786 & Ironcat) who justify it it just makes it seem so silly and your discrediting your selves. Ramiz Raja & Zoyza on commentary are talking about how silly it is.
 
Also we all know Hafeez is a left hand specialist. Paranavitana is a left hander and had been batting all day. Hafeez wasn't called on all day to bowl to him. Instead Younis Khan a man with about 3 test wickets in 70 test matches was called onto bowl. Hafeez came onto bowl one over before tea and after 70 odd overs.

Another single conceded. The long on there is for only reasons known to the bowler/captain. On a pitch like this you have got to make them struggle for singles. Allow dot balls to build pressure - Ramiz Raja.

And what has Hafeez done against Perera? A seaming wicket, overcast conditions, and this guy wants to hang his argument on Hafeez not bowling.:facepalm:

Nope, I'm talking about Perera. My argument was never about specific bowlers. It was about Perera's slogging ability.
