Sanju has a bright start this season, scored a unbeaten century, hopefully many more to come.

Also looking forward to Chhattisgarh match (thinks this was newly added team this season), my man Kaif leading this team.

As I come from U.P , my eyes are on players like Kuldeep Yadav, Ankit Rajpoot and Sarfaraz Khan. Hope they perform well this season :)

Some good performances by some youngsters. Let's see how their performance goes in this season

And looking forward to Kuldeep Yadav, Yazvendra Chahal, Shreyas Gopal, Akshar Patel and all other young spinners performances. Need to find 1 more spinner to have as the backup spinner in tests and ODI teams

Batting is always good and some pacers become Ambroses and McGraths in Ranji, but turn out to be legendary Ashok Dindas, Manpreet Gonys, Vinay Kumars in international. Hoping it is not the case with any new pacers we discover this season

Lolz never in my dreams did I think our army of trundlers will beat the team of heavyweights in 2 days before the quarter final started. Expected a heavy thrashing for us.

Ya I know. We usually have a team of hard workers who generally do well in the Ranji to reach the knockouts, only to lose in the end to the likes of stronger teams like Mumbai and Karnataka.

Our batsmen are stubborn, solid and don't give their wickets away easily on the mould of Cook, Rogers or Kraigg Braithwaite. Vijay, Mukund and the new Kaushik Gandhi all fit that description, but none are as talented as say a Rahul or Karun Nair or Manish Pandey. Bowlers are mostly trundlers as well. I expected them to lose ultimately to the much stronger Karnataka team. So it's a good achievement to reach the semi finals. One interesting thing is that the pacers have been the biggest match winners for us this season which is a surprise. A couple of matches at Lahli also helps.

Hopefully we can extend the run to the semis and if we reach the finals, hopefully Ashwin and Vijay join the team to help win the trophy after a very long time. Rahul did well in the 2nd innings on a greentop, so that's one positive for the Indian team.

Positives for the Indian team so far in this round with Rahul scoring an impressive 77 and a fiver for Bumrah in the other game.

Ishan Kishan with a match winning 86 now. Who is the better keeper (not batsman) between him and Pant?

Lovely to have beaten Karnataka I say,all my Bangalore buddies disappointed the match ended in 2 days :P tbf Rahul and Nair last year had scores of 188 and 328 when they defeated us by an innings, incidental scores?

I think India need wicketkeepers who are better batsman. Catches and stumpungs are being missed anyway .Saha is overrated criminally as a wicketkeeper.

You need to give Pant another full season in FC cricket before you throw him into test match cricket. Keeping is so much about motor memory and he needs to get more experience in a lower pressure environment.

Ideally, he would already start getting games in LOI cricket but that won't happen with Dhoni around.

just saw the highlights. that was plain destruction. kid hit some huge sixes. good technique and matching temperament it seems. not seen his wicketkeeping but impressed.

Can someone tell me why such a prolific team like Mumbai is opening their batting with a 32 year old batsman with 5 FC matches ? What is so special about him ? and Why do Indian domestic players with better FC average are chosen for ODIs over players with better List A averages ?

injury crises to the openers. The other opener, Prithvi Shaw,17, is making his FC debut.

Has Abhishek Nayyar increased his pace or am I dreaming? How is he able to take so many wickets. Last i checked, he was beyond ordinary in IPL. I caught a brief glimpse yesterday and saw that he is indeed nippier than earlier. Can someone eloborate?

Herwadkar, Rahane and Mr.Talent are injured. Almeida was underwhelming.

He was averaging 125+ before injuries. And now again bowling near 130. Little too late for him to play for India. But very useful for Mumbai.

Mumbai's bowling attack is so mediocre. Shardul guy looks 5'10" & fat. Less than ordinary.

Sad inspite of that doesn't look like we will go past Mumbai  probably our golden chance to win it.

Yeah Karnataka had the best chance of beating Mumbai but now that we're out I'm rooting for you guys. Hopefully you can beat Mumbai :)

We are the New Zealand of Ranji:facepalm:

Good enough to reach the knockouts on a consistent basis and sometimes even the finals but ultimately not good enough to get over the line against the best teams. Misbaesque captaincy by Mukund doesn't help either..

Green pitch with no movement. I think everyone that stays up at 1:30 Am and watch Ranji trophy matches should re-evaluate their life.

Anybody speaks anything against Karnataka/ bangalore, we will cancel idli sambhar subscription to north india.

D.karthik clearly stood out compared to the rest of the batsmen. V.Shankar looked like a Test prospect. Rest of the batsmen of Tamil Nadu didn't look pleasing to the eyes, including Mukund.

Waiting to see how Prithvi does in his second first class inning. Been earmarked for India by some very reputable experts.

Bumrah cleaned up. got six wickets against Jharkhand. This kid has got talent and that unique action makes him hard to pick. Great option going forward for our test team.

Yeah same here. he hit a cracking drive for 4 in the first innings before playing a a wide ball and getting out.

Selecting Bumrah for the test team will hinder is LO progress. Should remain a LO specialist.

we need him:misbah. I hope Yadav and Ishant keep bowling well but it's no guarantee. we need all the help we can with our fast bowling attack. He can become a good International seamer. He's accuarate and economical and that action is an advantage.

His action won't allow consistency in his bowling. If he can add upon his pace he can become an enforcer in the mould of Yadav or Wahab.

actually his main strength is his accuracy. He's got a knack of bowling effective yorkers and is a good wicket to wicket bowler.

see he's not got the build of Wahab or Yadav so I'm not sure he can increase his pace to 145 kph.

I would keep Bumrah as a LOI specialist for now; let him slowly develop his fitness to bowl longer spells.

His performances have shown the same pattern where he has struggled when needed for longer spells.

Guys how tall is V. Shankar approx. & what pace does he bowl at ?

Not sure, think he's more of a batting all rounder. Was selected for the India A team as the seam bowling all rounder before he got injured and Pandya replaced him.

Is probably 2nd in line to Pandya as the seam bowling all rounder.

So why didn't Tamil Nadu set a higher target for Mumbai to chase ? 250 on this track look very easy. Does NRR play a role if the match is tied ?

I've been watching Ranji/Deodhar/India Red vs Blue Vs Green and loosely for about 2-3 years. Certain players stand out more than the others, there are only handful of prospects. Spinners don't give enough revs, have poor actions, fast bowlers don't bowl fast enough, most batsmen favour certain sides, wait for the loose balls which are more common in FC than international matches and capitalize on them. Baba Aparjith looks decent, Smason, Naman Ojha and few others look like international prospects. Rest look like club cricketers.

Guys how tall is V. Shankar approx. & what pace does he bowl at ?

He bowls in the mid 120s. Hardly one or two balls in the 130s. More of a batsman and a bowler who can provide relief to the main bowlers ala Ganguly but a slightly quicker version.

He is tall and so should get some extra bounce, but without the pace not sure how effective he would be if he gets a break in the international games.

His batting looks decent. TN should atleast push him to #5 to improve his utility to the team. If he develops well he looks a good option for #6 in the Indian test team. But before that he needs chances in the 'A' team to check out how he steps up - was unfortunate to miss out on the Australia 'A' tour due to injury. Pandya came in and has subsequently got his cap albeit in the shorter format.
