Who would you add in India’s World Cup 2019 squad?

i think this is an argument, which will resolve itself fairly easy in the next 2-3 months. If both or either of them perform well in Australian test series then he/they will become automatic selection in the ODI squad, no questions asked.

Absolutely not, but world cup is not that far, less than a year is remaining, and India has a good ODI side. They can groom their players after the WC, they are still very young.

Dhoni has given India and indian cricket a lot of success, he deserves something better.

You mean the incredible amount of money, fame, power and high that comes from playing for India and captaining India is not enough? Not sure why people get so emotional about sportsperson. He has lived a dream for 10-12 years playing for India, i am sorry but the nation doesn't owe him anything.

Shaw and Pant continue upward surge

India rookies Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant have made substantial gains in the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen after their fine efforts in the second Test against the West Indies contributed to a 10-wicket victory that sealed a 2-0 series triumph for the home side.

Shaw, who led India to victory in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup this year in New Zealand, completed a memorable debut series as he finished the Hyderabad Test in 60th place, a gain of 13 slots after knocks of 70 and 33 not out. Shaw had entered the rankings in 73rd place after a century on debut.

Left-handed wicket-keeper batsman Pant also continued his upward climb as his knock of 92 saw him gain 23 places to reach 62nd position. The Delhi batsman had started the series in 111th position and would be deriving satisfaction from the rankings gain after missing centuries in successive Tests, also dismissed for 92 in the opening match in Rajkot.

Would like to know how the ICC introduces rookies in ranking table, Shaw at 73rd and Pant at 111. Surely it's not arbitrary? What's the magic math behind it?

Now compare all these points to Jadhav in Asia cup. The guy who has been treated poorly by selectors. Jadhav did 100 times better than Jadeja in both bowling and batting in Asia cup.

Jadhav is injured and hence not in squad. Each time, he has gone out of the team due to his fragile fitness. Too much of a risk to take to a WC where there are 10 matches to be played in a month's time. P

4 times. 4 times he has injured himself in the middle of an international series. I would be surprised if selectors look at him again because it's clear his fitness level is just not there for international cricket.

DK is actually in good form. They don’t let him settle into the national team. I would have given him a run at #4. Thats where he was always most suited to bat. He’s never gonna succeed at #6 and below.

4 or max 5

Bhaijaan hasn’t given up on him yet.

Shubman Gill is knocking hard at the doors. This is a finger biting race.

India should go full bold with this line up at the world cup :-

Dhawan
Sharma
Kohli
Rahul
Shaw
Gill
Pant (wk)
Pandya

This could be the most dangerous ODI batting line up ever.

Pant is slaying it.

So disappointed Shaw got injured. Would have helped so much at the top.

Indian young guns turning it on.

Who would you have dropped in that case? Agarwal or the KL?

Dear Pakoda,

Shaw-Rahul would have been my opening pair.

I would play his test openers for the entire series unchanged. Thats how you show confidence and thats how it is answered back.

The good thing with India is that unlike during Tendulkar/Dravid/Lax retirement when they went into transition period with no established world class player at peak to carry the lineup between 2011-2013, this wont be the issue when Virat Kohli and Cheteswar Pujara makes the call.

As apparent, 4-5 years down the line, India will be having the privilege of trio of Shaw, Gill and Pant all at their peak years, unless ofcourse they fade away. By that time, Bumrah is also not going anywhere and Kuldeep will be there as well. So, ther will be mix of some experienced players along with other youngsters who would be laiding their claim as well.

With the Fab 4, they were all the same age. So, all of them retired/lost form within a couple of years of each other.

With this generation, only Kohli, Pujara and Rahane are of similar age. Then there are a set of 25-27 year old batsman and then Shaw and Pant. In the next couple of years, its crucial that the set of 25-27 year old batsman - Mayank, KL and Vihari - confirm their spots. We have 2-3 upcoming batsman, and at least 1 from each u19 WC that provides us with a good talent. This needs to continue.

Even with bowlers, Umesh and Ishant are in the early 30s, followed by Bhuvi and Shami who are 2-3 years younger, and followed by Bumrah. We also have good talent in the 19-21 category.

With spinners Ashwin , Jadeja and Kuldeep and Chahal all have a few years between them. But unlike the pacers, I cannot think of many young 19-21 yo spinners. This is where we seem to be lacking. Though since spinners mature a bit late, I hope to hear more about them once they turn 25ish.

The Fab 4 all had successful long careers. All those batting spots were locked for like 10-15 years, in Tendulkar’s case 24 years.

I think moving forward it’s probably not in favour of any country to have players holding on their spots till their late 30s.

A 40 year old retires and suddenly you expect a 20 year old to fill the gap straight away. Doesn’t always happen. Talent takes time to groom. The Fab 4 weren’t all superstars from their early 20s either.

Wow...

ShawPant redemption in IPL!

Both young lads steering Delhi to another win.

Little Prithvi Shaw batting on 96. He is on fire.

Shaw out on 99.

Could have been youngest centurion ever in IPL history.

That was a pathetic shot to get out. Good innings though.

He will learn with time.

All the hard work done and letting Rabada end up as star of the night. He must be relieved ending up in winning side still but must be hurt from the inside at losing the limelight in the end.

Nonetheless a special knock from a special talent.

Prithwi Shaw showing his class once again..

Smashes 150 off 100 balls on New Zealand tour as part of India A squad.

Bring him back.

Nation of Domination is upon us as Pant smashes 100 in 70 balls in Australia :)) :14:
