It was a near perfect PPV card and the fact that it was in MSG only made it better. Because that's hardcore wrestling fan territory, not to mention one of the most fabled arenas in the history of pro-wrestling. Goldberg v Brock was so funny lol. The way the fans just s**t all over that match. I was watching it back a few years back and I LOLed at them waiting like 5 mins to start the match because of how loud the boos were. In the end Austin had to give them a stunner to get the fans to pop.
Christian v Jericho was one of the more underrated matches on the card. The swerve at the end was fantastic. They did a really good job with that storyline.
I watched Mania 18 waking up at 5 am in the morning in 2002 which was the best experience IMO. Watching it from the front row would be something else. After that Mania 21.Wrestling brothers, if you could travel back in time to watch any Wrestlemania live, front row seat with your homies, which Wrestlemania you picking.
I am picking Wrestlemania XX
Benoit wins triple threat vs HHH & Michaels
Benoit - Eddie moment
Undertaker returns as Dead ManBrock vs Goldberg
Evolution vs The Rock & Sock
Eddie vs Kurt Angle
Chain Gang Cena vs Big Show
Christian vs Jericho feat Trish Stratus![]()
That Undertaker return was much-needed. I think just about every wrestling fan is in agreement with the fact that that American Badass gimmick sucked. I preferred 'Big Evil' a bit more, which he transitioned into around 2002-03. But at the end of the day, everyone wanted the real Undertaker back. They built this return up beautifully aswell with the vignettes. During Kane's matches on RAW things would start going haywire, with lights flickering and stuff and Kane to his credit sold it really well. In kayfabe, he knew what what was coming...That Undertaker return was pure Hollywood stuff. Only 90s fans know how epic and anticipated that return was because he changed his gimmick to the Dead Man after a long run as the American Badass. From then on Undertaker’s legend grew to levels never seen before. His real streak run started from there.
WM wasn’t live back then in Bharat so we used to see a one week kind of delayed telecast lol. But we weren’t doing a lot of internet back then so there were no spoilers (lol that was the era, 1-2 weeks delayed telecasts and yet the suspense was intact).

After Rock vs Hogan, this return was something that gave me actual chills. The pop when he gong hit, and when Taker eventually entered in that cloak and hat. The crowd just went nuts. That Undertaker return was pure Hollywood stuff. Bro it's been only 5 months since i started watching it live. Now that WWE is on Netflix we can finally feel how the rest of the feels when they watch it live. I guess I can. Most of y'all live outside Pak, you spoiled brats![]()
Nevermind. Beat him like a drum in his first match against Hangman Page. Forget I said anything. If am honest I’ve not paid too much attention to him, was he in a tag team with Ethan Page? If he can be compared to Angle he must be very good. I think at his age, it’s not a terrible move going to AEW, I feel like he lacks the name value of other stars from a similar period as him, it’s not impossible but would be very tough for him in WWE; but then there are guys who they push that are very green and having a seasoned guy has its benefits. LA Knight might not have had the management’s favour but cream rises to the top, and for many years you knew his name and how good he was, similar to Nick Aldis / Magnus.

Him going away regularly was necessary to preserve the mystique of the character. For me the Randy Orton feud will always be the best lmao. They did some really creative stuff in that feud to show how Undertaker was playing mind games on Randy. Randy's reactions were priceless.Every time Taker reinvented himself, I felt like this was it, he always had a knack for adjusting at the right time and for the right audience, I was a huge mark for Big Evil; he was just so cool during the RA era:
He went back to his roots with the phenom and this time, took his ring work to another level, Taker P4P was one of the best wrestlers in the world in the late 2000’s, he finally got to work how he always wanted to / how he always could and how he was bought up in Texas which was a big wrestling territory
I'm going to change my answer to 21 aswell. Knowing what we know about Benoit, I don't want to witness that piece of $hit's moment in the sun. Which is a shame because that's probably one of my favorite wrestling matches ever. But I feel like that entire Mania is tainted now because of him.
@shaz619 Is this your nightmare come to life?

Bro I used to watch SD and Live Wire on Star Sports in 2000 and then switched to Nitro in 2001 till the merger.Common consensus seems in favour of WM 17,18 (attitude era) & WM 20,21 (beginning of ruthless aggression era)
Those 5 years collectively delivered constant entertainment and epic show downs. It was a great time to be a WWE fan back then.
I was too young to follow the Monday Night Wars besides in Bharat our Cable Operator also rarely showed WCW. We would get like a 2-4 weeks delayed telecast of WWFSo stuff like MNW never existed for us. It’s only when I grew up that i realized that this thing was going on. I honestly had very little knowledge of WCW because of no telecast or internet at our house then. Punjab had many NRI visitors so sometimes their nephews and all would know from them about WCW. and share with all us kids in school about WCW while we all talked about WWF. Kids being kids they would say WCW is better (just bcz they knew about it never even watched
) and that would confuse us all. So that’s pretty much all i knew about WCW.
During the merger also, the Cable operator stopped telecasting for like 6 months and when it was back i saw all the WCW guys in WWF and again was kind of clueless about Booker T, and all. Even Hogan![]()

Supersports would show WWF which was how i saw the majority of AE.
Mania 20 had the unforgettable return of Taker and an ATG mainevent and an amazing Angle-Eddie matchI always thought I was in the minority with WM 21 so glad to see it’s rated by you as well, I genuinely prefer that PPV over WM 20 irrespective of Benoit, for me WM 21 was the greatest WM in history and the peak of the RA era. WM 22 had the shadow of Eddie’s death & going into WM 23 I feel we were starting to transition into the stadium era which has its pro’s and also its cons. But back to Benoit, if WM 20 was special, and I still think it was, what Benoit did should not take away from that; am at a point now where I’ve separated Benoit the performer & Benoit the murdering vermin, I can even go back and watch some of his matches because what he did as an artist in the ring and the moments he created, to me the art leaves its imprint forever no matter what path we take so I can admire the art, but blacklist the artist. WM 20 was a special PPV, arguably the greatest triple threat ever with Shawn putting on another insane performance, Eddie/Angle killing it, Taker’s return at MSG, Evolution/RocknSock-Connection and even Jericho/Christian were all so memorable; these PPV’s were on another level when you think about it, many many years from now we will recall every match/moment, but for the recent Mania’s it will be a couple of matches/moments here and there.
Mania 20 had the unforgettable return of Taker and an ATG mainevent and an amazing Angle-Eddie match
Mania 21 was the better show but two main title matches underdelivered in terms of in ring action especially Cena-JBL one.
lol i am from pakistan and my cable operator would provide all the star channels (which i think are indian channels)Our Cable Operator was a donkey
Both are good but the two reigns of terror (trips and jbl) ending were too joyous for me back then.WM XX kicks WM XXI ass
There was also Christian - Trish moment

21 is too damn good as an overall PPV. It has everything that you want from a WrestleMania card; a hot opener, a car crash multi-man ladder match, one of the greatest wrestling matches you will ever see, and a main-event that perfectly caps off the night.I always thought I was in the minority with WM 21 so glad to see it’s rated by you as well, I genuinely prefer that PPV over WM 20 irrespective of Benoit, for me WM 21 was the greatest WM in history and the peak of the RA era. WrestleMania X8 is pretty underrated. People should not underrate that Mania though because of the garbage main-event. Rock v Hogan damn near blew the roof off the building, and it had a strong undercard too.Common consensus seems in favour of WM 17,18 (attitude era) & WM 20,21 (beginning of ruthless aggression era)

Personally, I loved JBL's run. When JBL become champion SD was getting pretty irrelevant as a brand with the departure of Brock, injury to Angle. JBL brought credibility back to the brand and then later even made a star out of John Cena, especially in that 'I Quit Match.' Not to mention, he completely reinvented himself as a main-eventer in that run. Both are good but the two reigns of terror (trips and jbl) ending were too joyous for me back then.
I saw it just the other dayI wish I could go back in time and also watch that crazy funny ass Taker vs Giant Gonzalez match
Underrated
Only in HD TV era i properly figured out GG was wearing a body suit. Back in the day with 144p YouTube era, I couldn’t believe Gaker fought a medieval Goliath.
What is Pro Wrestling without all this mystery and make belief stuff

I get your point about WrestleMania 20 and I respect your opinion. In alot of cases I am able to seperate the person from their personal actions. But over time, my feelings on Benoit have changed. And now, I don't feel like glorifying him or giving him any kind of notoriety. Which is such a shame because WrestleMania 20 had one of the greatest endings ever with him and Eddie. A whole lot more people, including WWE would remember it more fondly today if it wasn't for obvious reasons. But at the same time, WWE or the fans can't be blamed for wanting to repress it from their memory completely.
If I were to ignore everything about Benoit and judge the main-event on its own merit, I reckon it was probably the greatest Mania main-event ever.
I have really nostalgic memories of 23, I must say. Just that entire 2007 year is imprinted on my memory for some reason. And I quite liked that Mania despite the lack of heat and babyface v babyface World title matches. It was supposed to be the start of a star-making run for my boy Mr. Kennedy. But it wasn't to be.
Side-note: 21 and 23 both broke records for being the highest grossing Manias at the time in-terms of PPV buys, which speaks to the strength of the card. 21 for me was all about Batista. He is the one who drew the money for that event. 23 probably had alot to do with Vince v Trump.
Can't believe these idiots booked Rey in a match on the go-home SD. There was absolutely no need for this at all. Now he's injured and off Mania
They need to let Americano fight his childhood hero growing up in Mexico, Randillo Oraton
Probably going to give the nod to Dragon Lee since they want to give Americano the winIf that’s true what an absolute sh!t show, I feel terrible for Rey and especially El Grande; who has been waiting his whole life for this moment.
In these circumstances, they have to give Rey Fenix the opportunity; I know it now risks turning into a cold match, but I trust both to do their best and make the best of a terrible situation, in story lines it would be a logical move to.
I feel really bad for him. I can't imagine the trauma that guy lives through on a day-to-day basis. I heard him say once that he has been completely shunned by Vince, WWE and pretty much everyone in the business except for Jericho and Chavo. He was at an AEW show in Canada once and Punk went out of his way to hug him and say hi to him in the front row, but other than that its really disappointing to see how he has been treated when he is probably the biggest victim of his whole tragedy. I don't recall that, but I think they did that in some other match too. Not sure if it was the Saudi show. I feel like alot of wrestlers still don't understand how to process that whole thing. Probably because they knew Benoit and interacted with him on a daily basis. They probably can't imagine what made him do something like that.I wish David Benoit took up pro-wrestling to rewrite history, it’s weird saying it but it would have really hit everyone in the feels. Do you recall in 2007 & beyond, Shawn & HHH were paying tribute to Benoit by using his finisher in their matches ? It seems to me like they forgave him. Respect your position though completely. I tried to rewrite history by trying to beat Orton at SS for the WHC in a Cage Match at SummerSlam on SvR 2006, not even video game universe would allow that, Randy beat me on Legend Mode lol
Such a shame about Mr. Kennedy, he had a decent run in TNA however.
That’s very interesting, I forgot those two events were the highest grossing, people underestimate how over Batista was, he captured the imagination of all the fan groups, for WM 21 the two most talked about matches were Batista/HHH and Angle/HBK; so I’d also give the latter credit because it was a genuine dream match we all wanted go see and Angle was really taking off; it’s mad to think it was Shawn’s third mania after coming back, I read about it in his book and he was really at peace after that night and he recieved a huge ovation after the match, I don’t think I will ever experience anything like it again as a fan, I also watched it on replay but luckily without spoilers.
They need to let Americano fight his childhood hero growing up in Mexico, Randillo Oraton
Nah boys. I reckon this is the perfect opportunity to finally do this dream match.Ooooh that would be amazing, Orton showing up with a Lucha mask, mania is meant for ridiculousness like this, we wont see it under H.
This was my second suggestion.Infact they should ask bring in Mr. America (who is totally not Hulk Hogan) and make this a three-way. But hey, don't question the finish or who's going over, brother.
View attachment 153520
Bruh, Mr. America gonna squash these two like a couple of bugs. He's gonna hit the leg drop on both these fools (inspired by his favorite wrestler Hulk Hogan) followed by a double-pin. He won't even bother to hook their legs...he's just gonna stand over their lifeless bodies for the pin. But in the end, America will win so we should be happy. Yeahhh! God bless guns and bald eagles! This was my second suggestion.
But Americano will turn face because Hul- I mean Mr America has been too controversial last few years
As Bischoff once said, controversy creates cash. You can never go wrong with some spicy controversy.......just as long as you don't take off Mr. America's mask that is.This was my second suggestion.
But Americano will turn face because Hul- I mean Mr America has been too controversial last few years
This was a weirdly schizophrenic crowd. They were pretty adamant in their booing for Cody but then turned on a dime once Cody delivered his reposit. All in all, I thought it was an okay segment. The FU from Cena felt a bit telegraphed, as did the Cross Rhodes from Cody. Cody got some good lines in, but all in all, I came out of it feeling like Cena is winning the belt on Sunday.Heh, he used the Oscar humiliation ritual insult we all wanted him to use on Cena @shaz619
Cena came guns blazing but Cody held his ground and not getting steamrolled by the menace that Cena is on the mic
Crowd firmly was with Cena and started booing Cody but he was able to turn it around. Props.
those were the golden daysPakistan was doing great back in the day. You were ahead of us in many things actually. I think with stuff like Volvo buses also, you probably had a larger fleet before we rolled them out.
He was good but so loathsome. I didn't understand it that he was doing so well in his role and Cena winning felt like a watershed moment.Personally, I loved JBL's run. When JBL become champion SD was getting pretty irrelevant as a brand with the departure of Brock, injury to Angle. JBL brought credibility back to the brand and then later even made a star out of John Cena, especially in that 'I Quit Match.' Someone did a fantastic video on this:
Yes he does seem like a good family guy. Mustafa Ali also said how he let him stay in Chicago for the birth of his child when he got called up to the main roster when he was expected to move to Tampa. The near death experience may have also humbled himself. He is not overtly evil but he definitely is an attention seeker. Dwayne was known as the most selfless guy back in the day. Crazy how much he has changed just to succeed in Hollywood.Since H weaselled his way into the HOF today, I have agreed to a temporary cease fire and will list three positives:
1. He seems like a good family guy, isn’t a wife beater and think he genuinely loves his daughters.
2. The best thing he ever achieved in wrestling was being involved with the cruiserweight classic, AEW screamed and shouted a lot about a sports based product; this was it though, from the international representation, having to weigh-in to qualify and global hands off approach; it really drove the competition and felt special, the back story of TJ Perkins hit you in the feels to, the pay off was beautiful.
3. Triple H is my favourite video game character of all time, he is always in my top 3 to play as or beat the hell out off, there’s just something about picking H in those old N64 games that gets you, I start to hear the voices; bury him! bury him shaz! bury him!
I wont ever say another positive thing again, let alone the three easter eggs here![]()
I think Jacob is winning. My predictions for Night one —
Gunther vs. Jey Uso, Winner: Jey
LA Knight vs. Jacob Fatu, Winner: L.A.
El Grande Americano vs. ???, Winner: El Grande
Jade Cargill vs. Naomi, Winner: Jade
The War Raiders vs. New Day, Winner: New Day
Tiffany Stratton vs. Charlotte Flair, Winner: Charlotte
Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins, Winner: Punk
Sincerely hope I am wrong about the opener. Nothing would make me happier than if I am wrong about that.
Maybe Rusev wrestles Gable. or Aleister Black. If that’s true what an absolute sh!t show, I feel terrible for Rey and especially El Grande; who has been waiting his whole life for this moment.
In these circumstances, they have to give Rey Fenix the opportunity; I know it now risks turning into a cold match, but I trust both to do their best and make the best of a terrible situation, in story lines it would be a logical move to.
It seemed like they desperately wanted Cody to look good here. Cena didn't even throw any barges at Cody on mic. This was a weirdly schizophrenic crowd. Jey winning the world heavyweight championship has tanked the value of that belt even further after they already made it seem like a second place prize last year and prior calling it the “working man’s” championship.Jey Gunther - should have been a hot opener. But that's what you get for giving Jey a marquee match. They did well but Drew would have been much better in that Jey position.
It'd be great if someone just squashes Jey on Monday and wins the title.Jey winning the world heavyweight championship has tanked the value of that belt even further after they already made it seem like a second place prize last year and prior calling it the “working man’s” championship.
If bron loses IC belt I hope he does this lolIt'd be great if someone just squashes Jey on Monday and wins the title.
Guess I wasn't willing to believe that they would just bury L.A in the dirt like that. But they did. The heel didn't even have to cheat to win. Just beat the $hit out of the babyface and pinned him.I think Jacob is winning.
It might be Gable vs Rusev now. And Rusev will win IMO.
That'd be insane actually. Bron will get even more elevated even after losing the IC title. If bron loses IC belt I hope he does this lol
I thought the IC Championship was the "working man's" championshipJey winning the world heavyweight championship has tanked the value of that belt even further after they already made it seem like a second place prize last year and prior calling it the “working man’s” championship.
Mania feels so underwhelming this year and none of the matches delivered. Hoping we get a good mainevent.Guess I wasn't willing to believe that they would just bury L.A in the dirt like that. But they did. The heel didn't even have to cheat to win. Just beat the $hit out of the babyface and pinned him.
This was like a slightly better version of the Jey-Gunther match, but structurally it was exactly the same.
yes. Cody's reign has run out of steam.Do you guys think Cena should win the world title for 17th time? I think they should book him to win it for 2 reasons - 1) he is an ATG, and 2) it would be a nice farewell for him considering this is supposed to be his last Wrestlemania.
The crowd is so quiet.Gab—I mean, El Grande is so talented. I would have preferred if it was Rey Mysterio here, but this was a fun match. And Grande's 540 splash or whatever that was, was incredibly impressive. He rotated like three times on that mid-air.
Is there anything this luchahdor can't do?
Most of the matches on this card have felt like average, run-of-the-mill TV matches. All hopes lie on the main-event now.Thank God ugly Charlotte Flair didn’t win. I hate her overrated ass so much.
As for this Wrestlemania so far, it doesn’t feel like Wrestlemania whatsoever. I can’t help but feel that two night shows have somewhat killed the hype of Wrestlemania.
You actually gotta give them something to cheer. As nice as this was it wasn't anything they can't see on an episode of SmackDown. The crowd is so quiet.
That is the disadvantage of two night shows. There are plenty of matches that aren’t PLE worthy, let alone worthy of being on a wrestlemania. A lot of these matches feel like random Raw or Smackdown matches. Most of the matches on this card have felt like average, run-of-the-mill TV matches. All hopes lie on the main-event now.
When you have a roster this stacked, you should be able to give the audience something special twice a year. I don't think that's too much to ask. I blame the unimaginative booking rather than the opportunity to put on a show infront of 60K+ two nights in a row. Any wrestling promotion or wrestling booker would kill for that opportunity. That is the disadvantage of two night shows. We need rock to have another power trip for next wrestle mania because h even if he has gold won’t know what to do with it. Fein fein fein fein
