The Wrestling Discussion Thread

Do you guys think Cena should win the world title for 17th time? I think they should book him to win it for 2 reasons - 1) he is an ATG, and 2) it would be a nice farewell for him considering this is supposed to be his last Wrestlemania.
Cena should absolutely win. Losing it would hurt the momentum that he has gained as a result of turning heel.

And besides, Cody has been a champion for a year now. I am sick of these lengthy title reigns in Triple H’s era. Not every world champion has to hold the title for so long.

Agree.

It's okay if the run is for 4-6 months. 1 year is too much.

Cody is not a big dude like Goldberg or Brock Lesnar to warrant it.

The ending was so predictable. It was a good main event but was it enough to save night 1 of Wrestlemania? I don’t think so.

I wish circumstances had been different and Brock Lesnar had been in the main event with Reigns and Punk instead of Rollins.

Good main event. It was predictable but was pulled off well so still enjoyable. Honestly out of the wrestling verse, Heyman is the best actor, far above Rock, Cena and Batista. Man’s facial expressions are gold.

You have to be the greatest to remain relevant for 30 years as a manager in prowrestling world which Heyman definitely is.
I love how he plays his character to be a hoe. Now we can finally have Rollins turn heel from this cringe face run.
Roman's in ring work just keeps getting better.

Just because it was predictable doesn't mean it wasn't good. I thought it was a fantastic main-event. Saved the show imo. The turn was brilliantly executed. Seriously, they should give Heyman an Oscar already. In particular I was really impressed with how all three were constantly involved in the match. Alot of the times in three-ways you see one guy lying outside the ring for minutes while the other two guys do spots in the ring. Hopefully this signals a more serious change for Seth Rollins. Because most of us have been pretty sick of the Seth 'Cringelord' Rollins era for a while now.

Exactly. Predictable done right is still amazing. Paul was MVP of the match.

And yeah like @BunnyRabbit said as well finally we have Seth where he should always be as a heel.

The face turn should’ve been temporary for the bloodline saga, after that he should’ve been the crooked character he’s known for.

Can already see Paul’s next promo where he trashes Roman for having no place anymore now that he’s no longer champ etc

hahahaha. Heyman is such a hoe. Loved the mainevent.
I guess Heyman and Seth are joining Cena and Dwayne tomorrow.
Man if Seth and Heyman join Cena and Rock and Roman and Punk chip in to help Cody, it’ll be wild.

I know, I know. It’s similar to last year. But I’m all in for these types of once in a year type of wildness.

Will be very surprised if Stone bhai doesn’t feature with a stunner tomorrow.

Side note. I find it quite funny that certain people who have never thrown a punch in their life or received one, dog on pro wrestling for being fake and a waste of time etc.

But the actual killers who can wrestle, box, etc and legends of mixed martial arts are openly pro wrestling nerds themselves lol. Daniel Cormier, Israel Adesanya and Colby Covington who walks out to Kurt Angle’s themes in all his entrances.

Even today Dana White and Adesanya were in the audience. They know real fighting so they enjoy pro wrestling for what it is.

If Cena is supposed to win, I don't see Austin giving someone a stunner without impacting the outcome.

It still wasn't good enough night for a Wrestlemania though. The card and matches were weak af except the mainevent.

So… all those years of build up for Gunther being booked as a machine washed away with him tapping in 2 seconds? 🫥😐🫥😐
Gunter’s world heavyweight title reign was so underwhelming. He was booked so strongly as the IC champion but Triple H really dropped the ball when it came to his WH title run. And to make matters worse, he lost in a rather tame fashion to Jey Uso of all people.

Jey Uso who has never used a submission maneuver in his life makes him tap out in literally two seconds. It's an insult to your intelligence.

This match was probably the second best thing on the card, despite the burial of L.A Knight. Jacob Fatu is so good though. He's like Umaga but better.

I honestly watched a full Jacob Fatu singles match for the first time and damn bro for his size this man is one hell of a mover, flyer. He’s Umaga 2.0 and better

WWE need not exaggerate entrances for EVERYONE.

Few guys it’s ok.
But if you’re giving so much time to everyone’s entrance it takes the focus away from the actual matches.

Also what’s with the boxing/UFC style announcers for EVERY match. Now a new thing but another distraction.

That's always been a big thing with WWE that gets amplified on a show like WrestleMania. I agree that not everyone should get that kind of focus. Adds alot of extra time to the show. Also don't get the long breaks in between matches.

Night 1

Wrestlemania stage was mediocre, no creativity at all, I feared a bunch of giant screens piled on top of each other and this was it, you’re in Las Vegas for gods sake, it should give you a couple of ideas on what you could do.

Also, where were the big fire works display and America the beautiful ? Look, people hate American gov but they love American culture, better not mess this up tomorrow night. This night never felt special enough and the drama was limited.

For me, this night was saved by the main-event which had everything; in-ring action, a great story and WM style drama; plus my GOAT got to main-event WM, that Punk video package legit made me tear up, it was put together so well and also the one for the rivalry with the machine head track had old school vibes, Punk did it man he F’n did it, no one can take this away from him or his fans, we waited over a decade for this and he proved he belonged, by far he got the biggest pop of the night among the top stars. If you wanted to watch a more trad triple threat I recommend Oba/Trick/Evans which was one of the best NXT PPV/PLE main-events of all time, but this was just pure cinema at Wrestlemania.

It was good to see El Grande get the W, but WM is all about drama, I don’t know if they pulled the plug on the plans they had with Rey but am disappointed in the lack of drama and making this a much bigger deal; when such constraints present themselves, you need to think outside the box, it’s Wrestlemania and am sorry but this match felt like it was on a regular Smackdown episode. El Grande deserves much better.

Great match between LA Knight & Fatu, nice little title change on the card, Fatu has taken the WWE by storm since making his debut, well deserved.

Jey had to go over and win the WHC, it was a nice moment and little scuffle I suppose, but doing Gunther dirty like that though…….would H ever tap out to someone like Jey Uso?

After the opener, I felt like WM went on auto-pilot, it wasn’t until Flair made her entrance that I woke up, Wrestlemania was alive again. Flair matches always age better, but I really enjoyed this match due to Flair’s ring work, you need to consider this was Tiffy’s WM debut against someone who was at least a few levels well above her, when it comes to WM women’s in-ring performances, this was one of the best ever, Flair has been out the ring for so long but she is just so at home in the ring, no rust or drop in her output; outstanding conditioning, excellent ring awareness and nobody can touch her selling P4P male or female, Flair is a natural and she was born to wrestle. I enjoyed the match overall, there were some slightly rough spots about 3-4 but I had to consider that Tiffy is making her debut, Charlotte can work a bit stiff at times but that added to the intensity and animosity between the two. Outside the main-event, this was the best piece of business on the card and the best singles match for me, every other match besides the ME is not something I haven’t seen before, Flair brings the fight and her matches are always a breath of fresh air.

If I was to say what my biggest disappointment was, that would be the El Grande segment, they didn’t do enough at WM, you need to give me a pay-off here and some more drama.

But this night will always be remembered for me with Punk main eventing and Flair’s individual in-ring performance, really cemented herself as Miss Wrestlemania.

On the betrayal it was done really well, the ball is in Seth’s court now, if you can’t get over from here as a major star, then that’s it then, you don’t deserve to be compared with the best ever. The selfish fan in me would have liked to see Punk/Heyman take control again but we’ve been there before or Heyman aligning with someone like Drew and making him the biggest star in wrestling which we know is long overdue, but you can make a case that everyone survives at the highest level without Heyman except Seth, you could argue that Seth needs Heyman more than anyone else potentially to bring out his best strengths and mask his weaknesses.

Very happy for Jacob Fatu. I think the crowd wanted to see this title change, eventhough they weren't exactly booing L.A. Knight. But is this it for L.A? I still don't understand why they took the belt off him if he was going to put Jacob over later. And now, where does he go from here? Because I can't say I see him becoming the next WWE Champion after this.

I thought Charlotte v Tiffany was very sloppy though. You could see that these two lacked chemistry, plus, I thought that the pacing sucked the life out of this match. It wasn't horrible or anything but I can't say I liked it at all.

El Grande stuff I feel like was meant to be for Mysterio and may have delivered more if he was in the match. Fenix being in there didn't make alot of sense considering he just arrived in WWE and doesn't have any connection to Rey like Dragon Lee does. And it probably wasn't the right time to beat him either, especially if it was going to be in a throwaway match like this one. Not sure how this all is going to play out now because it felt like this was leading to a mask vs. mask match at some point.

Three-Way was the highlight though by a fair country mile. This felt like a classic Paul Heyman match with tons of big moves and three person spots. The storytelling aspect as well was masterfully executed. From the callbacks to The Shield betrayal, the fact that they gave you subtle hints that this turn was coming in previous weeks. And how alot of it connects to stuff that is already canon at this point like Cody telling Roman last year (or was it the year before that) that sooner or later everyone will leave his side, including his wise man. Just all round terrific stuff. Will be interesting to see how they follow this up now. Seth Rollins has to be very different now that he is a Paul Heyman guy. He can't go around dancing around like a clown in those cringe outfits. The music has to go too, because you don't want the fans singing that song.

Also, I don't think its a coincidence that Roman Reigns has never beaten Seth Rollins. That has to pay-off at some point in the next couple of years.

You know what happened bro, LA Knight wouldn’t even be defending the title here, and I think Fatu came into the picture more recently. They jobbed LA out against Nak who only had to drop the title suddenly to mourn the loss of his father. Then they had to look at new opportunities to get the belt of LA, you see H takes it personally when someone gets over without his investment, he has a genuine vendetta against the fans unlike Cena. Under H, LA wont make it past the upper mid-card.

If you have the bandwidth, re-visit the match in a few months, Flair matches age much better, I agree with you on the match but I personally enjoyed her individual performance and the things she did with a vastly inexperienced opponent who was a few levels below her. By Flair standards she deserved a much better opponent, but I look at this in the same vein as HBK vs McMahon at WM 22; like what can this genius possibly do against a broomstick ? No disrespect to Tiffy. Put this match into perspective, just think what a cluster F Naomi vs Jade was; I blame the booking partially but that was the definition of a seriously rough match, even AEW knew how to book Jade better then this, you keep it short and stick to the spots, 4/10 should have had the vision to keep her in NXT so she could work with a guy who could actually help her improve and utilise her strengths better, I feel very sorry for Naomi.

It’s very very odd how the match transpired, btw El Grande cost Rey Fenix in the Andre The Giant Battle Royal and then later in the show, Mysterio is mysteriously ‘injured’. Something just doesn’t rest well with me with this one. On the biggest stage however you want to look at it, this under-delivered unfortunately, though it wouldn’t shock me if the plan was for Rey to do the exact same thing against El Grande because the long term plan would be for H to pull the trigger on the pay off when no one cares.

You couldn’t sum up the ME as well as you did just there, it was Heyman 101, I was just thinking I wish he booked Gunther/Jey during the opener but then I was like at least his input would be taken where it matters most at the top of the card, Heyman has improved his booking to with the incorporation of historic storytelling without compromising on the match flow, now or never for Seth, oh even Mox got a mention. What did you make off Punk finally getting his spot and all the video packages before the ME? This is my favourite modern WM moment ever now.

Btw I genuinely think H inducted Hart/Austin for their match just to make sure they were present for his speech and just so he could rub it in when they bought out all the HOF’ers, trust me on this one, I know how that insecure piece of crap is wired. @Suleiman tell me if am telling lies.

H has done many things to satisfy his ego. If he can derail promising careers of guys who were well established in WCW and well positioned to thrive in WWE as well, can’t say I can put this past him.

Doesn’t matter though, Bret and Austin are GOATs and no matter how many times he inducts himself in the HoF he will never be half as good as either.

You can see how much he tries to want to be seen in the same category as Rock, Austin, Brett. But they earned their flowers, h just married into it.

With how badly this clown booked Jey vs Gunther (and even booking it in the first place) I fear he may have picked Cody to win.

I know it’s unlikely but after 2 second tap out, it’s possible

I know Randy and Cena are the only confirmed stars for Backlash so far, so that gives me hope.

But you never know with this guy. Cena absolutely has to win.

I think they booked Knight in a tough spot there, against someone like Fatu, he just had to be put down. Think this was the best LA knight singles match in WWE.

I agree, i simply wasn't invested in charlotte-tiffany match at all. it felt disconnected.

El Grande stuff, it just felt like the producers wanted it to feel mellow and hollow. It could have been a big big entertainment thing but feels like Trips lacks the fun nature in him to make matches and segments be fun. Gable worked hard and it showed. Phoenix had to slow down visibly as he was going to sell a kayfabe injury. It could have been so much more.

Agreed. They booked themselves into a corner. Only way Jacob was not going over was if Solo interfered and ended up costing him the match. Thought that would happen, but it didn't.

El Grande v Fenix could have been a really good match if they were given atleast 15 mins. With the time they had they couldn't do much, but still El Grande was able to do some incredible stuff.

Austin saw through this snake, didn’t want to put him over for the belt and had more respect for Mick Foley who H ended up beating for his first title. H was the guy who planted the seed in Vinces head to screw Bret, and if Owen did not pass away, he was going to be repackaged as ‘The Game’, a gimmick which H was handed on a platter. Despite that, Bret’s assessment that H was a 4/10 worker is accurate. And you’re right, these silly p!ssing contests don’t matter, he wont be remembered like those guys and the smarks are already turning on his booking, someone called him Triple Doofus on social media I was laughing for hours, these lil jobbers were not around for his reign of terror even and think Charlotte is evil, they have no idea LOL

I dunno man. I'm not sure if my opinion on this match is changing. The sloppiness and sluggish pacing stood-out way too much for me. I have not liked anything involving Charlotte since Royal Rumble. I feel like nothing has clicked with her. The faster she moves on to something else, the better it is for her I reckon. I didn't have any hopes for Jade v Naomi so they were never going to disappoint me. But yes, that was an awful match. Eventhough it went like 9 minutes.

Not sure what to make of it. Btw, what do you think of WWE acquiring AAA? That's pretty massive and I guess somewhat the recent signings of Penta and Fenix. Also, do you think Tony will now try to buy CMLL just to satisfy his ego and prove to his little fanbase that he cares more about lucha libre then the fed? :sarf2

Gunther v Jey was not good but at the same time I feel like it was as good as it could have been? Not sure if that makes sense. Barring the finish ofcourse which was absolutely needless. I mean what more can you really expect to get out of Jey Uso? Good point on the evolution of Heyman's booking style. As for the Punk video-package, I absolutely loved it. I thought it was wonderful and one of the highlights of the night for me. Loved the incorporation of his old theme too. Really put into perspective how far this guy has come from and how much of an imprint he has left on the business.

Hahahaha, did you catch H rolling his eyes when he went to shake Bret's hand on Night One? Personally, I didn't but alot of people were pointing it out on the internet. Also heard that H put alot of people to sleep with his 57-minute Ironman HOF speech. Looks like he is keeping the spirit of his matches alive even in 2025. :wahab2

Got alot of these wrong but what the hell, let's go again. My predictions for Night two —

  • IYO Sky vs. Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley, Winner: IYO
  • AJ Styles vs. Logan Paul, Winner: AJ
  • Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez vs. Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, Winner: Liv & Raquel
  • Bron Breakker vs. Penta vs. Finn Balor vs. Dominik Mysterio, Winner: Dirty Dom
  • Randy Orton vs. ???, Winner: Orton
  • Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre, Winner: Drew
  • Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena, Winner: Cena

I mean some things could have been done better like how she came in to begin with, H was clueless in that regard. But I will agree to disagree on Flair’s output itself, she still passes the eye test for me, it’s more about who can step up to her level.

My thing with it is this, whether it’s WWE or god forbid AEW, it doesn’t sit well with me how wrestling is being monopolised; is that really good for the growth of the industry ? WWE’s financials will be more resilient than ever though. Wouldn’t put that past Tony and he is actually facilitating WWE’s strength by aiding the monopoly on wrestling by destroying the independent circuit.

Yeah it was a good match, I think Heyman could have done better but I am nitpicking here. And totally I got so glued in by the past/present classic promo of his I overlooked the legendary theme and don’t forget, we don’t get these moments without saying thank you to Jungle Boy :yk

You got to the joke before I could regarding his speech 🤣🤣🤣 absolutely clueless low IQ fella when it comes to anything to do with the wrestling business, I doubt Austin would have went on that long even if he had the luxury, but at least I would actually want to pay attention to what he has to say. And I did catch Bret like that and was like that’s my guy 🤣 that’s the 4/10 eye roll 🤣 I read that it was 1 hour 7 minutes and they want us to believe H had no say in his induction 🤡 He can force this as much as he wants it wont change his legacy as @Suleiman said.

Dear Stephanie McMahon,

Nobody gives a damn that Andre the Giant was "your best friend" when you were 13 years old and nobody believes that you were the architect of the "women's evolution". Everything that comes out of your mouth is faker than a football bat. So shut your mouth, know your role and stay at home.

Sincerely,
one of many wrestling fans

Yeah my thoughts exactly. Maybe it could benefit the company or giving more eye-balls to lucha libre. But I think the business being more monopolized is ultimately a net negative. Makes you wonder if WWE will do the same thing in Japan and swallow up NJPW, AJPW or NOAH. The way things are going for them you can't rule it out. And WWE already has a working relationship with NOAH.

Thank you Jungle Boy. Your empty-headed decision to use real-glass in a wrestling match is the catalyst for all of this. We are all eternally grateful to you.

Alot of people were comparing it to Goldberg's speech. But as hated as it was by the crowd, I doubt it went this long lol. And then this guy wants to pretend like he didn't know this was happening. I bet he spent the last year writing his speech. :sarf2

Amazing opener. High-octane...high energy match. All three women were incredible here and there was so much creative stuff on-display. Finish was absolutely perfect. Easily one of the greatest women's WrestleMania matches ever.

She still looks great for a 50 year old.

I didn't even watch HOF. Heard the ceremony was awful

Either Nikki or Becky is replacing Bayley.
I think Logan is going over sadly.
You had Finn winning the IC title no?

Kerry King's guitar tone sounded way off. Just like Living Color yesterday.
They should have adjusted the amplifiers better.

I heard a rumor that its Becky.

Let's see. i think AJ is winning. They would have to be really stupid to put Logan over.

Initially yeah, but I think Dom winning would be a cool and unexpected moment and would be a nice payoff to all the heat he has generated as a heel in last few years. I don't expect him to be champion for long though.

Was this really necessary? I don't understand the need to give every wrestler an elaborate entrance just because its WrestleMania. Especially two guys who (in kayfabe) hate each other so much that they are literally having a no holds barred match.

If I was badly waiting to get my hands on someone I wouldn't be gingerly walking out in a cool costume while being played to the ring by the guitarist of Slayer.

Damien definitely needs a wardrobe upgrade. This zesty undertaker look needs to go.

Really wish they had let him continue his feud with Finn and then have a go at Gunther again instead of Yeety.

Not sure if I wanna see Gunther v Priest or Balor again. Priest needs to work with someone far more established and experienced than him.

Dom has been absolutely brilliant. Deserves all of it.

It's fine for bands who have performed their theme in reality. I don't think Slayer composed Priest's theme. And Priest has had quite a few themes and it's not really synonymous with his character. So it felt a bit out of place. Like calling a bagpipe crew to perform Drew's theme would have been much cooler.

I don't get the hype of Penta seriously. Phoenix is much better in the ring. Penta botches too many moves as well.

Anyone in NA should try and get to SummerSlam in New Jersey, you get to see a big PPV & enjoy New York at the same time which is next door.

AJ/Paul next, come on AJ, show us your greatness against this broomstick and change the false perception of your WM legacy.

Night 2 doesn't seem like being booked by Trips. It's way too entertaining and has elements of grandiosity.

I had to listen carefully to see if they pipped in crowd noise but I don’t think so, the card is just flowing much better and the crowd is responding; what do you think?
