The Wrestling Discussion Thread

Imagine the match that Punk and Cena had on the RAW before WrestleMania taking place at Mania. Would have been one of the greatest WrestleMania main-events of all-time. Punk still regards it as his favorite WWE match.

Best match they ever had, I watched it live around 3-4am, something made me stay up for that RAW, I don’t know if I was doing a bit of revision in the background and decided to stay up for it, I popped big for the piledriver spot. Punk was on real edge during that WM build knowing he wasn’t going to main-event & had banger after banger.

What next for Cena after Wrestlepalooza , has he demanded a rematch or what ?
He restarts his heel run by first putting triple h through a table, drinking water out of a bottle and then spitting at him.

Then he drags Seth Rollins out of the locker room and gives him the STFU and breaks his leg for real.

And that’s how we got to the AJ Styles match, I am smiling twistedly right now

@Suleiman H got his ego bruised badly by that ESPN review of Wrestlepalooza, what did he expect, that they would become biased overnight like Dave Meltzer, there are some people who still value integrity when it comes to doing their jobs. I hope that guy is not silenced and continues to give his honest opinion.

I told you earlier weeks ago tkhhho is going to try and take a dump on Cena’s career. He will try this **** with anyone who had a better career than him to make his dumbass seem like a legend and so started booking him like a joke out of nowhere, done the same to AJ.

Cena just bypassed him completely and scheduled the AJ styles match for himself. He did the Twitter version of what I posted above to H, showed him who really wears the pants in this business. Should’ve taken full creative control from the start.

After the cm punk MITB match which imo was really good they could’ve eased Cena back in as face but started playing games with his final moments in this business.

Cena is too loyal to the company but he should have understood it was all Vince & this regime don’t actually care about the rich history of the WWE or share his values, Cena came in to have a bit of fun & say thanks to the fans, but he ended up having to deal with that backstabbing, politicking garbage can. Cena’s too much of a pro & really good with the media, and when they pushed it too far, he said enough is enough, but I hope when the time comes, he exposes 🤡🤡🤡🤡/10. When I saw that clip from Unreal I knew something was up, I think we don’t know the half off it, this guy actively gives Cena, Orton attitude, we knew what he did with Goldberg, he completely buried AJ & Punk is shrewd enough to play his game and even he’s stuck, not completely spreading his wings.

Hopefully Cena and AJ go against the script and give us a banger like the 2 guys of their caliber would.

@Bhaag Viru Bhaag Now this started even during the Vince regime, but regardless of how many times Bret was invited to the WWE, he never changed his tone on Trips LOL a true wrestling gangster.

The best H could do was not have him seated at ring side for one of the events, and Bret made that well known, he will always tear him a knew one.

Seth Rollins vs Nia Jax, and she becomes first woman to become world heavyweight champion. Since clown h is writing whatever nonsense these days, this is a pretty good angle- way better than Logan pill or jelly bean getting a title shot or even being in the ring for doing YouTube or music

This way we can have women of normal size and weight be safe from her reckless outburst in the ring

Too bad that will change again when he goes to the main-roster

I’ve noticed such a huge negative reaction to Ricky winning, the AEW lot need to grow a pair, I’ve seen his finish get ridiculed to, but he been using that since the NWA, I for one love the DDT as a finish, and besides, he basically concussed Oba before beating him. This by far is the biggest win of his career imo & Shawn has done a wonderful job with him.

The small saving grace might be that H’s pettiness towards AEW might benefit Ricky, half but he seems to try and use all his brain power to avoid being labelled the guy who buries AEW talent, only to prove a point to the guy who shafted him in the ratings war during the black & gold era.

She shouldn't be employed period. She's not fit to be a professional wrestler

I don't know bro. I don't think H needs to have malicious intent to screw Ricky Saints up. He is just a woefully incompetent booker. He is simply incapable of making stars and just bores the s**t out of you with stuff that goes nowhere. I have some hope for Ricky because of how talented and charismatic he is, but not very high hopes.

Same AEW fans were jumping over Gail Kim for saying that Riho and AEW's other Joshi princesses look like little girls and are hard to take seriously. I wouldn't pay much mind to what they say. If their voice mattered that much AEW wouldn't be tanking in the ratings every week.

WWE PLEs have become such a damp squib. I feel like you can predict the finish of every match before the card even starts. On top of that the show is just overstuffed with commercials. It amazes me how this company continues to print money despite pricing out entire demographics of fans and ripping them off with such substandard shows and special events.

I guess at some point you have to question the wisdom of the people who are actively going to these shows too.

It’s more embarrassing when their talent kick up a huge fuss over this, namely Omega, but he had an affair with Rhio or something. Dave is a big hypocrite though and he has been way more offensive to women stars in general, Gail Kim’s comments have been innocent, the kind of style both in AEW and WWE which we see or the talent strive for, was perfected by Gail Kim, she’s a pioneer who didn’t deserve the mistreatment

InshaAllah he will thrive with Punk’s backing & Cody’s influence.

I am so worried though, not just for him, but Oba, Trick Williams & Je’Von Evans; I recommended you watch the triple threat at Takeover between these three to see how insanely good they are.

Oba is of the ilk of a Lesnar or Gunther

Trick Williams honestly is the true succesor to Booker T and is so charismatic

And Je’Von, I am not mincing my words, he has the talent of AJ Styles & Will Ostrich, and if you’ve not seen much of his stuff, you may have seen his match against Sami Zayn this past week which was beyond his years

If you’re MJF you wouldn’t worry too much unless these guys are pushed hard and to the very top, and that seems unlikely.

On the plus side they are on ESPN now, and if they flip flop, the events will be held more accountable.

WrestlePalooza wasn’t the worst event, but for their ESPN debut it promised so much & delivered little, so the review was spot on

@RedwoodOriginal May have other contenders to as you watch a bit of everything and matches that I have really liked this year was the one between Oba & Moose at MSG and the triple threat between Oba / Trick / Je’Von Evans.

However, I don’t think there’s a better match then this in 2025, the kind of match you see and say, it doesn’t get better then this, time to retire altogether :yk3

Certainly one of the best of the year. Match quality from WWE main-roster has been very disappointing this year though. Atleast for me. Even someone like Gunther has been forced to have matches with guys like Jey Uso and Pat McAfee. Off the top of my head, I'd put the WrestleMania Triple Threat matches---Punk/Roman/Seth and Iyo/Rhea/Bianca in this list too.

Not sure if I can think of too many other matches..

This was one of Ambrose’s best feuds and AJ’s to lol
AJ Styles peak in WWE

For like a year or so they actually did the brand-split right and were making it work. Both shows felt like distinctive shows with their own stories.

Lol it was hilarious to see ESPN give such a lukewarm review to a show that their company has spent months promoting and put so much money into...but kudos to them for being honest I guess

Sami Zayn open challenge only saving grace on SD these days
I never expected to say this but i am liking Seth Cody storyline. More seeds for Heyman turning on Seth being planted. And obviously Cody beating s out of Seth again would be a good payback for all the Seth shoving nose has been doing for last 3 years. Hopefully Roman will soon cost Seth the title. I feel like it might come in a match against Jay.

The racist triple K I fear will bury Oba Femi by shoe horning him as another member of vision to prop up his son Seth Turdlins who is inferior to every single member of that faction including Heyman.

He has killed Bron Brekker momentum already.

Is anyone really clamoring for another Jey Uso World title run? They've been teasing a heel turn with him for weeks

This is why I like Kevin Nash. He's smart and understands wrestling unlike alot of other doofus ex-wrestlers. I can't believe no one ever brought up the point about the NDA before, because that's a great point. I know this topic has been discussed to death for 28 years but I feel like people gloss over the fact that Vince never made an honest attempt to come to a mutually-acceptable solution with Bret. His first instinct was to double-cross Bret.

@shaz619

Nose makes the worst decisions so I wouldn't put it past him unless Roman vetoes Bloodline progression
There is no more progression left. The storyline went on for the better part of 5 years. It was a good storyline but we;ve seen it all. They need to move on instead of constantly finding ways of putting them together again and again.

Roman is still 10 times more captivating with anything he does that is not booked by Mr. Nose.

Bro that was H who put the idea in Vinces head, & unfortunately JC came up with the perfect finish (I have a restriction so got back late to these posts my fingers have suddenly started to ache to). This is if we don’t believe the conspiracy that it was a work. On KN, agree, he deserves more credit, in the early 90’s it’s not his fault he was shoehorned as a babyface as a top guy - bit like Roman Reigns actually, he was charismatic & got over huge with the NWO - again not his fault he got a huge pay day & had to deal with the morning Russo, but even as champion, he had a better reign then the stars of today and especially the likes of H & Seth Rollins. That match with Shawn at In Your House is one of my favourites from the 90’s, I had it on DVD back in 2002, Diesel / KN had great psychology for a big guy before injuries took their toll.

You know what bothers me? forget The Rock for a second because wrestling fans are very vindictive.

We complain about not getting great thought provoking movies right, and when we receive them, we don’t watch!

One Battle After Another faces the same issue, it was arguably the best movie I’ve seen this year & reminded me how special Dicaprio is; should we be criticising this guy for the movies performance?

I think we should certainly attack the marketing department for both movies and also the fans who complain about trash movies and don’t watch the really good stuff.

But I am reading silly tweets like oh, people only want to see The Rock in Action movies, when we criticised that as well. Now he’s trying something a bit different and a lot more artistic, we shouldn’t criticise that.

I’m a movie lover so it’s disappointing to see, the box office numbers are irrelevant to me on a personal level because he’s giving us a MMA biopic with a credible director & co-star, am a huge combat sports fan and this is the kind of sports movies I run to the theatre for, I’ve not seen this yet: but the fact that we’re getting this and a lot of people liked it, that’s a success and he should continue this model in Hollywood, but I am worried now because all the neckbeards may force him to make absolute tripe again after their pathetic shaming of the box office performance…..

Next time though, they really need to be more creative with the marketing, honestly like WTH with the promotion, the UFC/TKO have barely promoted the movie, that should have been a big thing and they should have cut their costs a bit more, I don’t know, is $50 million too big a budget these days?

If he returns to Wrestling, we all benefit, that’s just too easy for The Rock, he literally makes the current product look like utter crap because of how good he is, but that’s just the third generation heritage and his ATG status, it’s unfortunate you have to work with such a mediocre regime however.

Triple H is such a garbage booker I’m put of RAW & SD literally, I just pick segments. The card for crown jewel is atrocious, what a cold match for Rhea who whether people like it or not is a top 3 star in the company, there is also no Reigns vs Bron Breakker either & they’ve not built up Cena / AJ at all really.

I am more excited for Bound For Glory, The Hardy’s vs The Dudley’s one last time & Leon Slater vs Je’Von Evans might be the last true OG TNA match in the X-Division.

Also guys, don’t bother with Survivor Series either, because Shawn Michaels is doing a better job with the NXT vs TNA Invasion storyline & booking of his matches similar to the 5v5 SS format. The sooner he is promoted the better.

Bro I agree with you wholeheartedly. This was just me taking a swipe at Rock because well, I like to....but I am actually looking forward to seeing this film and will definitely watch it on the big-screen. I know I was making some off-handed remarks about the film based on the trailer but after hearing some of the buzz around the film I am very much looking forward to seeing it. If anything, Rock should be applauded for finally taking a serious role and not producing the same old popcorn crap he's been producing for the last however many years. I get your point about the marketing, I would actually say A24 (the studio producing this) has done some very creative and neat things when it comes to marketing like making this 2000's-style online game or having director Benny Safdie promoting the film by quite literally wearing a poster lol. But the problem is that they can only do this kind of cute and creative guerilla marketing-type stuff because they are not a big studio with alot of money. I seriously doubt they have the money to run TV spots on TKO and AEW shows.

Yes bro, $50 million is nothing. Most big-budget films can spend an amount equal to or even greater than their production cost just on marketing. For context, One Battle After Another had a production budget of around $140 million, and with marketing and promotion, the total ballooned to about $300–320 million. That film is likely going to struggle to even make its money back. Smashing Machine's entire budget was about $40-50 million. And my guess would be that the marketing budget was inside $10-15 million.

And I'm 100% with you this. It's a damn shame to hear that this movie bombed. Not because I wanted The Rock's career to tank (I really don't care either way) but because the next time anyone tries to do a serious movie about MMA, the risk-adverse studio execs will point towards this. At any rate, the least we can do is support original films like this one by watching them in the cinema.

I'm checking everyone's replies and they remind of around the time I originally stopped watching. You get worn out. Its two shows every week. Non stop storylines. So im so glad I came back after watching almost nothing for two decades..imagine what ive had to catch up on lol..and im still not done. But im enjoying this ride. I guess I don't have the baggage some of you guys do. Loved RAW this week. I can see the vision falling apart soon but man thats gonna be one helluva crash. And intrigued with the Jey storyline. They finally giving the guy some edge. Im into it again which is fun for me..its been a long time coming lol.

Might tune in to watch the 5v5 just because I'm a mark for that Survivor Series style elimination match and I've really been missing it since they stopped doing it.

Side-note: I saw some of Stand and Deliver and while I liked a couple of matches like Starks v Page & The main-event three-way, one thing that I noted with NXT is that too many of these guys and girls are more interested in doing spots rather than telling a story. Which is why I didn't like Hank/Tank v Fraxiom and the Women's Ladder match at all. This point was true for the main-event too, although there I still felt there was something of a story and all three guys meshed together well, with each of them bringing something different to the table.

Oba Femi is obviously the most impressive future prospect. A complete package and a bonafide future main-eventer...would be hard to deny that. Je'Von Evans is super-talented in the ring, and the type of things he is able to do with that height is quite impressive. Very naturally athletic wrestler. That said, I think he is someone who could benefit from some more time in NXT. Trick Williams did not really impress me much in the ring, infact he had some sloppy moments like throwing kicks miles away from Evans. Still I think he has a ton of charisma and could do well as an upper card heel or babyface. I can see the comparison with Booker T too that you were mentioning. He's got the personality aspect down but needs to work more on the in-ring.

No I enjoy your Rock burials, I knew you had the same view on this but I had to go on a rant against all the fools on social media who are doing harm to the artistic form of cinema by shaming the box-office performance for a sports movie. I wonder if a Boxing movie would have done better, I’m keeping an eye on the one with Sydney Sweeney and not just for obvious reasons :yk Here me out, I actually think she’d pretty decent, saw her in Immaculate and she carried that movie, was fantastic in if. There’s also a table tennis movie to so will be interesting to see how that does as well. Yeah A24 were probably hoping to cash-in on The Rock’s name and perhaps he doesn’t have the pull he use to, I think moving forwards he needs to think outside the box, not forget the commercial side but keep prioritising the engaging stuff because even though people crying about him not making the action movies, nobody wants to see those either, if he continues this model, it will pay-off, this is the first time he’s getting into different genre’s and it’s not going to be easy. I’d love to know what the One Battle fellas spent that marketing budget on, fans are to blame to but their promotion has been atrocious, I didn’t know about this movie until a few weeks ago & my VPN add (thanks Stephanie) showing me a poster of a Mexican stash looking dude who was oddly familiar.

All three honestly since then just keep getting better, Oba out of the three is the most oiled and Trick has come on as TNA champ, Je’Von is so beyond his years, he got the time, only his skin colour will fail him sadly, make sure you check out the TNA match with Leon Slater this weekend, Leon is a huge mark of AJ and is just as talented as Je’Von, it’s an X-Division title match so will be spot oriented but it will be a good showcase for two insane talents really. Yeah triple threats are generally all spot oriented now, these matches were more of like a showcase for them, if you see some of their singles affairs they really have a lot more in the tool box and with experience ring psychology will come, but for sure the most psychological match was Ethan/Saints

You get some good episodes here and there, like the one in my city Brum, got lucky there. But the product in general feels like the r Triple H tribute shows & he’s not even dead yet.

That dropkick which Leon Slater has is literally early 2000’s AJ, when you see stuff like that it gives you goosebumps, your senses felt that at some point, I think he’s a special talent and with a higher ceiling then Will Ostrich, but again he’s mixed race so I don’t know anymore.

It was good to see Mustafa Ali this week, look forward to the title shot he is owed after 2 years.

Man, we got a Pakistani male & female in major NA wrestling companies, that’s nuts!

Also, Mustafa Ali last year was the cover star for a PWI magazine, I don’t know if there have been south asians who have achieved that before? If they have the list must be very small.

I have developed alot more respect for Nash over the years, because he is another wrestler who has been misrepresented somewhat thanks to Meltzer and the smarks. I've seen alot of stuff about him in the best about being the "worst drawing champion in the history of the company" and whatnot. Fact is, anyone who would have been champion at that point would have been the worst drawing champion because WWE was completely in the toilet financially and creatively. Nash was nearly 7ft. tall, it wasn't humanly possible for him to have 5-star mat classics in there. Despite that, as you mentioned, his work had more psychology than guys today who are probably 10x more physically and athletically gifted than him. You also have to give him and Scott Hall credit for redefining the pay-scale for top guys in wrestling when they took those deals in WCW. And you know what? I'm sure he was a politician. But then again, who wouldn't have been one working in that toxic company and sharing the locker-room with someone like Hogan? Seems to me that alot of people are mad at Nash because he knew how to work smart and still be successful.

Also, the kind of tragedy he has had to deal with in last few years--with the death of his best friend and his son--is just insane. My heart goes out to him

It was so funny watching the Reigns and Bronson Reed face-to-face because Reed was wearing the same color-scheme t-shirt as Roman, the same color trousers, had the same haircut with a man bun, a beard, and even tribal tattoos like Roman. On top of that, both guys were wearing Air Jordans too. So Reed basically ended up looking like a shorter, fatter version of Roman.

Also, wth is an Australian Street Fight? W differentiates it from a Street Fight? Will there be boomerangs and cricket bats next to the ring?

@RedwoodOriginal I am considering going to Bound for Glory as it is happening very near to where i live and has my favorite Jeff boy in. The tickets are even cheaper for the Raw i paid for back in August.
Think @shaz619 might be the best guide on that as he follows TNA more regularly than me. But I imagine it will be far better experience for you than SmackDown considering the fact that its TNA's biggest show of the year and while the crowd may be smaller I imagine it will be far hotter and more enthusiastic.

Hardy Boyz v Dudleyz one last time is a good hook. I'm guessing the show will have some NXT talent too so should be a good show

I would for sure go, if only for two matches:

Leon Slater vs Je’Von Evans for the X-Division title, for hardcore indie fans of the golden era, this match is a throwback to the early 2000’s, it’s basically AJ Styles vs The Amazing Red (@RedwoodOriginal whatever happened to that legend), so I am hoping they let these two go all out & you wont be short changed.

Then the Dudley’s vs The Hardy’s sells itself really, WWE will never officially book this and H has a huge ego when it comes to treatment of legends so this is must-see.

The other matches of interest, Trick Williams vs Mike Santana & always good to watch the ring work of Blanchard.

TNA is kind of a WWE satellite but it’s better than being the Hulk Hogan or Eric Bischoff or Vince Russo satellite, this PPV is TNA’s Wrestlemania and who knows, and this could be the last time you see this event when the ownership isn’t completely under WWE’s control.

It's a miracle that Bill Goldberg didn't kill The Undertaker...and himself in this match

Taker learned the hard way to agree to working with talent who was at a similar point in their careers as him, maybe it was pride & loyalty, but he finally / thankfully was selfish for his final match by picking AJ, man those two would have torn the house down, AJ said they had no retakes because of their chemistry during the ‘filming’ for the boneyard match, and how Taker was in terrific condition.

AJ said that Taker signed his gloves & gave them to AJ after the match, that’s the ultimate show of respect there, and that was Taker’s final match, meanwhile we have Triple Doofus booking him so pathetically @Suleiman.

But I have some good news, I listened to an AJ interview and while he seemed happy to go through the motions and is so proud to see all the up & comers / how they’ve changed as big stars now (Roman, Gunther, Cody etc didn’t mention Seth which was funny LOL), he has a great idea for his retirement storyline, he wants that to be perfect so he can reference is when training youngsters etc So hopefully, they don’t mess that up, I fear our GOAT is going to call it a day at WM next year sadly.

I’m telling you… this is straight up visiting your cousins after a few months and dusting off the ps3, loading up SvR and doing player 1 vs player 2 with Cena and AJ.

Zero build up.

He knows we forced the match so he’s giving this build to us as revenge, so petty this guy is

Paul Heyman hates Braun as much as @RedwoodOriginal dislikes The Rock:

🤣
Tbf he did liken Heyman to The Penguin, which is a pretty funny comparison in itself....so he was definitely asking for it. But Heyman pretty much razed him with his reply. Not sure what Strowman was expecting taking a jibe at one of the greatest talkers in the history of the business. He never struck me as a particularly bright guy..

Did you guys catch AJ's post-match promo on RAW? Where he basically said that this match doesn't need a story because it's life or whatever. Felt like something straight out of the H playbook. And then he even had the commentators constantly saying that the fans wanted this match and we gave it to them...as if we should be grateful to Almighty H for giving us one match that any booker with even a couple of brain-cells would have booked months ago, and with an actual build.

This is one of the reasons why a Saudi WrestleMania scares me. Because you just know that the Saudis are going to throw obscene amounts of money at these legends to come out of retirement for one last match. Really hope we don't have to see another Goldberg/Taker or DX/Brothers of Destruction. On the other hand, it might finally lead to Rock v Roman because knowing The Rock he will try to get as big of a payout as he can from the Saudis. Just watch how his schedule clears when WrestleMania 43 comes around.

If AJ has most of the creative control on his retirement run then I have no doubt that it will be very good. It's when the head dunce takes control that things start to go awry. Before that retirement run though I badly want to see a high-profile feud between AJ and Gunther. I find it almost hard to believe how it hasn't already happened yet. Even an idiot like Triple H knows the value of this match. It should have happened when Gunther was World Champion

That just reinforces what I said he’s taking revenge from us for giving the match we demanded and going as far as using AJ to respond to criticisms his fragile ego can’t take, the guy is on C 24/7, if he spent more time on creative maybe he’d get somewhere and have something to show after all his years, but he never quiet improved as a ring worker either and was always stuck on auto-pilot; 4/10

This time round Turki alal Sheikh is involved and I expect it to be a great event; P4P the best promoter in sport and he has done a wonderful job with Boxing, don’t listen to the feminists & human rights police cry about his work, ignoring Wahabi mania which I hate, he’s a great talent and he will force Doofus to put on a show because WM booked by H was so flat ignoring the big matches which sold themselves. I hate H badly for that match, he bought criticism on Shawn who was the best part of that match & it put him off coming back for a match with AJ.

It would be funny, before Gunther v AJ, we have AJ come out to say the story sells itself we don’t need no build; imagine being so petty to use TV time for this? He should be fired asap.

Man just watched Ali vs Ethan Page, this match makes me proud to be Pakistani; Ali wrestled like he has a death wish, hope he’s ok. Outstanding booking & Ethan has been consistently so good. Such a creative match, MOTY candidate for sure, go out of your way to watch this guys @RedwoodOriginal
