Third Test between India [536/7d & 246/5d] and SL [373 & 299/5] ends in a draw - Ind win series 1-0

Back to the actual match and Sri Lanka will be regretting the collapse towards the end of the day as they would have fancied their chances of a draw if they went to stumps just 5 down or so. I expect India to pile on the runs tomorrow and bowl SL out for a 2-0 victory. If SL draw this match though, a 1-0 defeat away to India isn't awful.

1-0 will also include them avoiding defeat due to luck and not due to any good play in the first test. SL has not played well in this entire series so far. SL needs to bat well second time to draw this game.

It would have been a dead draw if they had only 5 down.

Now Srilanka will make it 10 times tougher than you imagine.

They will bat as long as they can with the one wicket.

When their turn to bowl, I will be astonished if they bowl more than 60 overs.

They will unquestionably cite pollution to cause innumerable delays, and this time Kohli won't be able to declare to stop the drama.

I think Kohli should declare and if SL is on course for win , India should cite pollution and stop playing. Epic revenge ;-)
 
Since the Umpires are not wearing the Face Mask, I think, SLs are just showing off !!!!!
 
Rahane promoted is a good thing actually! Why can't they promote him up in India (No.3 or even opening) so that he can at least do the job which he is best at (playing pacers), the only time he plays them most (in India) is if he opens... Then he can get settled to play spinners later...

Kohli shouldn't be batting above #5 in England and South Africa. Vijay and Rahul opening, Rahane at #3 and Pujara at #4 will be a very solid lineup for India that will not get blown away at the first hint of swing.

Needs to store up enough to last him during the inevitable lean run of 2018. Tours to South Africa, England and Australia along with an Asia Cup encounter against Pakistan.

He has runs against both saffers and Australia, barring his record in England I don't think he has any blamish in his test career not sure about any reason for this rant as far as Pakistan is concerned we will see how things pan out.

I still cant understand why couldnt we get Krunaratne out in UAE? He was the one who made the difference. I guess its about the targeting him outside off stump plan which we didnt execute properly as legside is his strength.

He averages 68 in SA and 62 in Australia, has been quite the struggle for him in those countries hasn't it.

Pitch is flat as a pancake. Noting for bowlers. Batsmen unless they make blunders will not get out.

This where India needs Bumrah. Someone who can polish off the tail with his yorkers and variations.

The likes of Ishant cannot do any damage when the pitch is this flat.

Ashwin and Jaddu are also struggling. No turn and no uneven bounce. A perfect T20 pitch this is.
 
Jadeja once again proving that he is much much better than Ashwin on flatter pitches. I shudder to think what SA will do to Ashwin, makes his selection in place of Kuldeep even more ridiculous.. not to mention he's in horrible batting form as well.
 
Poor bowling by Ashwin. Bowling into the pads and hoping that batsman miscues one.

Ashwin bowled poorly for the most part today and actually looks clueless.

Ashwin needs to up his game or he will be taken to the cleaners in SA.

You noted a good point. Ashwin has been pathetic with the bat too.

Agreed so 4 bowler strategy has come back to bite us this match, it's better to lose than drawing test matches with bowling incompetency; Ashwin has failed us in crucial junctures in the past 1 yr @ home.
 
Would be interesting to see how many points India lose for 2 drawn Tests at home against a low ranked SL side.
 
Why the hell did Indian Test team got back to 6 batsmen, 4 bowler strategy? To please Rohit Sharma? (Also in order to accommodate weak opener Dhawan?) Indians are looking shambolic going into SA Series. We may draw matches at the most, win looks distant unless wickets offer too much for bowlers (in that case even Indian Batting is looking fragile!)

It did, if Ashwin is our number one spinner in SA, start praying now! We can;t catch a break, literally, let alone balls in the slips. Bowling is good but no x factor like kuldeep, Saha better come good with the bat & gloves ~ he shelled a stumping today! Our biggest hope is Pandya, again start praying.

Difference between Kumble and Shastri (Won us the series through Kuldeep's selection in place of batsman!) But Kohli and Shastri want their best buddy Rohit in the team for friendly reasons!
 
Must give credit to SRL team, we’ll played. I don’t think any other contemporary team would have saved this Test. Having said that, I noticed it in past - FSK is totally a different ground unlike any other Indian/South Asian ground. It’s heavily skewed to teams batting 2nd.

6 dropped catches first innings & a couple of chances in the second, Kotla doesn;t deteriorate as much these days, ironically due to ~ the Smaug! If the sun had shone all 5 days like it did today, there would very likely be a result in India's favor.
 
We are going to lose our number 1 ranking soon and some delusional fans who were expecting india to beat south africa will come back to earth.

Indian bowling is good for indian pitches only. None of these bowlers are going to set the world on fire in South Africa.

You could say the same about Aus in India/UAE or Eng is Ind/Aus or Pak in Aus/SA so on & so forth. Only SA, now with Maharaj, is an all conditions attack. The best in the world even now, others rely on bowling pitches to win outside, like Aus this year in India.

Very good from Sri Lanka they may have lost the series but showed good fight. No doubt they have improved from the team that lost 3-0 at home to the same Indian side and give a much better fight without the added extra of home advantage this time. Hopefully they can grab a few wins in the white ball stuff as well.

Sl was 30/3 or something like that at start if day 5. Not many team can bat entire day from that position even on good pitch.
 
Respectable result for SL but the fact remains they are yet to win a test in India...
