"Those (PTI MPAs) who traded votes for money will be dealt with strictly" : Imran Khan [Update #12]

At least 17 Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) allegedly sold their votes during the Senate election, enabling two Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidates to be elected to the Senate from the province where the PPP only has seven MPAs.

An initial investigation ordered by KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak into alleged horse-trading revealed that at least 17 ─ and as many as 20 ─ PTI MPAs in KP had voted for candidates outside the party, sources in CM House Peshawar and Bani Gala told DawnNewsTV on Sunday.

The investigation report also claimed that those allegedly involved in the practice included several prominent party leaders and disgruntled party members, the sources said.

CM Khattak shared the findings with PTI Chairman Imran Khan today, according to the sources. During the discussion, the party chief expressed his anger over alleged horse-trading in the province and directed Khattak to submit a detailed report in this regard.

The PTI and PPP both accused each other of resorting to horse-trading in the Senate elections in Punjab and KP on Saturday.

As Imran Khan questioned the victory of two PPP candidates in KP, the PPP put the same question to the PTI with respect to the victory of its lone candidate in Punjab, Chaudhry Sarwar.

Meanwhile, a reliable source in the PPP claimed that it was KP CM Khattak who had approached the PPP’s provincial chapter for an understanding on a seat reserved for women. However, this claim was rejected by the PTI.

"This is unbelievable and seems to be a part of a conspiracy theory," PTI Information Secretary Fawad Chaudhry told Dawn earlier when his views were sought on the PPP leader’s claim.

On the other hand, responding to Imran Khan’s allegations against his party, PPP’s Farhatullah Babar yesterday accused PTI’s Chaudhry Sarwar of using unethical means to win the seat in Punjab.

"We negotiated with the parties (in KP) and secured their support. If we got two Senate seats with only seven MPAs, how did PTI win one seat in Punjab, when it could not?" Babar said.

PPP, PTI look to independent Baloch senators for support

In a bid to muster support for the post of Senate chairman, the PPP and PTI approached Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo and newly elected independent Senators from the province, DawnNewsTV reported.

A PPP delegation, comprising Dr Qayyum Soomro and Faisal Kareem Kundi, flew in to Quetta from Peshawar on a special plane and met CM Bizenjo, seeking the support of six newly elected independent senators from Balochistan.

PTI's Jehangir Tareen telephoned freshly elected Anwar ul Haq Kakar and also asked for his support in the matter.

The PPP and PTI have been struggling to gain the support of the newly elected six independent senators from Balochistan as both the parties want to field a strong candidate for chairmanship of the Upper House.

However, the senators from Balochistan declined to join any political party.

"Our doors are open to all, but we are not going to join any political party", Kakar told DawnNewsTV on Sunday evening.

Instead, the independent senators demanded mainstream political parties give the slot of chairman Senate to Balochistan.

"This time, the chairman Senate should be from Balochistan to remove the sense of deprivation of our people", Sadiq Sanjrani, another independent senator said.

The PML-N suffered a major political blow from Balochistan during Senate elections. Despite having 21 legislators in the Balochistan Assembly, the former ruling party in the province failed to bag a single seat.

'Greed responsible for poor MQM performance'

Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chairman Mustafa Kamal on Sunday lashed out at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) alleging that the party's MPAs sold their votes and blamed their greed for the party's poor performance in the Senate election.

Only one MQM-P member, Barrister Farrogh Naseem, was elected into the Senate, bringing the party's total count to five seats.

Kamal, who has been embroiled in a feud with the MQM since his return to Pakistan, claimed that eight PSP leaders in the Sindh Assembly had rejected all the offers to sell their votes.

Had PSP members not voted for PML-F, the seat would also have fallen to the PPP, he claimed.

The PSP chief alleged that MQM-P lawmakers' differences with Dr Farooq Sattar's favoured candidate Kamran Tessori were being used as an excuse for horse-trading and selling of votes to the PPP.

Looks like PTI are in full self destruct mode. People were talking about how PML-N will implode after the Panama verdict, but it looks like PTI are the ones imploding. Pretty obvious that the original party workers are unhappy with electables being given preference over them.

I know you don't like PTI much these days but you really have to read your post again and compare with actual news:

At least 17 PTI lawmakers in KP allegedly sold votes in Senate election

Pretty obvious that the original party workers are unhappy with electables being given preference over them

Do you understand that the people who allegedly sold their votes to most probably liberal and progressive PPP are the ones who should be blamed for SELLING their votes?
How can you say that they sold their votes because electables have been preferred over them?? These are the people who got PTI tickets and they won the elections on PTI tickets and most of these had never been elected before and PTI gave them chance.

I don't think you are close to politics that much but quite a few of these are sitting MPs in KP assembly and developed differences with Pervez Khattak over non allocation of funds and other local issues. Some were told they may not get tickets in 2018 due to their poor performance in assembly, Ayesha Gulali was also one of those people.

The headline says they "sold" their votes so was that to show they are old nazryaati PTI leaders or opportunists? btw a nazyrati like faisal javed from middle class became a senator for PTI don't know why media isn't highlighting that much. Also it's no secret there is a forward block in PTI KP from last couple of years some MPs formed that blocked when they were not given funds and instead those funds were given to local govt. PTI dont have a clear majority in KP and there is a forward block within them but still mualana diesel type leaders were unable to throw away PTI govt there thanks to master khattak he is a champion in local politics.

What do you say about this?

The above sentence pretty much clears up who sold their votes, and why.

Still the question is selling their votes for money (just because they are unhappy with the party) make them nazryati or loyal to the party? They can vote for others without taking money if they had an dignity left.

Well, it seems like they were disgruntled, but the money offered pushed them over the line. Makes things even worse for PTI, disgruntled and corrupt MNAs and MPAs.

PTI is going to change candidates on many KP seats for next elections so some of these leaders are also insecure about their next ticket. PTI is ready gamble with different faces based on their own votebank in 2018 just like they did in 2013. KP never voted twice in a row for any party so lets see if PTI can change the history their biggest opponent is going to be MMA+PMLN.

In other news Gulalai sold her vote for 5 crore

What do you say about this?

So you are saying ideological workers not happy with party policies SOLD their votes?? Bro they are not really ideological if they sold their votes are they??

As i said, these people had typical local politics issues about ticket distribution, funds allocation etc.

I forgot about the local politics issues, and stand corrected on the thing I said about them voting against PTI due to electables coming on board.

I never said they are ideological workers, but the report says that some prominent leaders voted against the party. Isn't this worrying? Especially because when these guys are replaced by electables, they will likely play the victim card, raise the issue of electables replacing them, and cause splits in PTIs vote bank.

Whether we like it or not, bringing on electables will likely have some sort of an effect on the votebank. Sure, it'll bring in some candidate based votes, but PTI will also end up losing a lot of their votebank who voted for a "corruption free" party in 2013.

To reform the system you need to be in power but to get into power you need to play with the hand that is dealt to you. Its interesting today that IK has also stated that PTI members sold their votes in KP. Being aware is one thing but doing something about it this close to an election is another. We know that educated Middle class people dont win elections in rural constituencies so whats the answer?

Imran Khan accepts it..

https://tribune.com.pk/story/1651615/1-pti-mpas-traded-votes-money-senate-elections-imran-khan/

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan claimed on Monday that some Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly members affiliated with the party had sold votes in connection with the recently-concluded Senate elections.

Terming this ‘disappointing’, he said a committee had been constituted to probe the matter. Khan said strict action would be taken against such individuals.

He told journalists that many MPAs turned down offers amounting to Rs40 million. “I salute those who chose not to do so. Those who traded votes for money will be dealt with strictly,” he said.

Khan added that no state institution had bothered to launch an inquiry despite reports of MPAs selling votes. “The Election Commission should have taken immediate action.” he said, “I have been repeatedly speaking out against money-driven voting practices related to Senate and have called for changes in election procedures”. He added that while the ECP advocated privacy for Senate votes, it failed to apprehend those who involved in horse-trading”

He said that the “godfather” who brought ruin to Karachi had escaped to London. He said the provincial government was equally responsible for handing over the city to the mafia. Karachi has been subjected to terrorism for 35 years. The chaos has barred educated middle-class from entering politics but now the situation is different, he said.

“I will personally content elections from Karachi. PTI leaders will choose the constituency from which I stand,” the PTI leader said.

These PTI members who traded $ for votes in KPK are nothing without PTI. Khan should just replace this members with new people for the elections. PTI will still win and it will show who the boss is.

Not sure how they will prove it but would be great to see action taken against them.

To be honest i don't think they care if they are kicked out anyway because they knew this is their last chance to make money as they won't get ticket next time anyway.

Remember most of these were elected for the first time on PTI ticket and were so called nazriyati workers from normal backgrounds. It's not as simple as just giving ticket to your old ideological supporters and they won't be involved in any illegal activities.

In short, honest individuals at this level don't mean anything. A proper system is needed where rule of law applies equally to everyone from rich, poor, old, new.

I often feel that IK is on his own against corruption. This has shown that PTI has too many people that like Nooras are out to make a quick buck.

There are quite a few people like him who work tirelessly giving up their businesses and life genuinely struggling for naya Pakistan but need 100 times more. He needs many more Asad Umars but sad fact is not many people are ready to give up their lives and businesses for better future of their country.

And what is even more disappointing is people see this as Imran Khan's loss, it's not his loss really as he isn't fighting for personal benefits. This is why he is not afraid to admit these kind of mistakes or bad decisions in front of media.

Atleast his party came out and said they will take action against the culprits.... PMLN and ppp would just hide it from the public and make deals behind closed doors and call it beauty of 'jamoriaat'.

When the culture of illegal self enrichment is so deeply embedded, the battle seems to be futile. We enjoy the humiliation of the Noora king and his coterie of crooks but alas it seems like trying to stop a bursting dam with towels.

That i agree with! What's worse is those trying to stop the leakage are mocked but no real condemnation for offenders.
