US Elections 2020 : The Joe Biden vs Donald Trump Thread

We all know Biden has won it, it's just the formal crossing of the line left.

In cricket parlance, its the 5th day of a test but target is tiny something like 150. The chasing team had a stutter in the beginning and were reduced to 25/3 but now are at 120/3 with two set bats at the crease.

Id back the opposition is Pakistan are playing.
It ain't over till its over.

boi that concession speech is gonna be something :)))

“The crowd at my concession speech was bigger than any crowd ever at any concession or inauguration speech! It was yuuuige! People kept saying why are you conceding? You shouldn’t concede. I bigly agree with them!!”

Trump's lead is now down to 64K in Pennsylvania with still over 300K votes to count. His lead is Georgia is 4K and dwindling.

The election may be called tonight.

Absolutely disgusting speech by Trump

What a disgusting individual

Lol

This whole mess has been deliberately created by the Republican controlled state legislatures in WI, MI and PA. They were repeatedly asked to amend state laws and start counting (but not releasing) mail in ballots as they arrived a week prior to election. They didn't start counting the mailed in ballots well after polls closed and that is why we are in this dilemma. Majority of republicans voted in person while majority democrats heeded the call to stay home and mail it in. That also compounded this image that Trump was leading by 500k votes in PA and now is on the verge of losing. It has given the avenue for Trump to gaslight and for his his cronies to spew wild lies that will haunt us for years to come. Erik Trump just lied that a bundle of trump ballots were found dumped by the road side. Lindsey Graham a sitting US Senator and chairman of senate judicial committee just went on Fox News and said votes are being stolen in PA. He wants all votes cast in PA to be scrapped and be replaced by PA state legislature (controlled by Republicans) to nominate representatives for the electoral college!
This will become the Benghazi conspiracy theory to invalidate Biden's presidency in the eyes for 69.8M voters who voted for Trump.

In my state of Washington, we are almost 100% mail in ballots. There are no polling stations (or maybe a few). We received our ballots on Oct 15th. It has a unique QR code and tracking ID. I promptly filled it out and dropped it off at the ballot drop off site. No fuss no muss. 3 days later I went onto the King County Election website, put in the tracking number, and saw that my ballot was received, then accepted and then counted (3 different stages). If it had been rejected, I had the chance to go in and have it fixed. Majority of the ballots had already been counted even before the election day. As soon as polling closed on Nov 3rd, WA announced the results within 2 hrs. Done and dusted. Our Secretary of State (person in charge of the state election process) is a Republican. She validated the results.

COVID-19 cases in US break record for second day in a row

A record number of coronavirus cases have been reported in the US on Thursday, breaking what had been a new high on Wednesday.

Some 120,048 people tested positive for COVID-19 across America on Thursday, according to NBC News. That's almost 16,000 more confirmed cases than there were on Wednesday.

There have now been more than 9.6 million infections nationwide and more than 236,000 deaths - both are the highest totals in the world.

Joe Biden has made the pandemic a key focus of his campaign, criticising Donald Trump's response. But polls have suggested that the economy remained the most important issue for most voters this year.

Election judge worked despite COVID-19 diagnosis, then died
A suburban St. Louis election official who worked at a polling place on Election Day despite a positive test for the coronavirus has now died, raising concerns for the nearly 2,000 people who voted there
By JIM SALTER Associated Press

O'FALLON, Mo. -- A suburban St. Louis election official who worked at a polling place on Election Day despite a positive test for the coronavirus has now died, raising concerns for the nearly 2,000 people who voted there.

St. Charles County, Missouri, spokeswoman Mary Enger said in a news release Thursday that the person, whose cause of death is not yet known, was an election judge supervisor Tuesday at the Blanchette Park Memorial Hall polling site in St. Charles, about 25 miles northwest of St. Louis. Enger said the county’s health department and election authority recently learned that the poll worker tested positive Oct. 30 for COVID-19 and was advised to quarantine for 14 days.

“The election judge nevertheless failed to follow the advice” and worked throughout the day on Tuesday, Enger said. “Authorities have informed the County that this individual has died, although a cause of death has not been given at this time.”

No details about the worker, including his or her age or gender, were released.

Contact tracing has started and county health officials have contacted the other nine election workers at the site, who were advised to be tested for the virus, Enger said. The infected poll worker’s duties did not “typically” include handling iPads, or having close contact with the 1,858 voters such as taking voter identification, Enger said.

County officials urged anyone who was at the precinct on Election Day to watch closely for symptoms and call a hotline number if they have questions.

St. Charles County Director of Elections Kurt Bahr said election workers were required to wear masks or face shields, and Plexiglas barriers separated workers from voters.

It’s not clear when the county decided to require workers to wear masks. In September, the election authority drew criticism for an email urging poll workers who had signed up for the November election to “act surprised” if voters asked why they weren’t wearing masks.

“You may act surprised that you don’t have a face mask on properly and then apologize as you put the mask on,” the email stated. “Wear your mask correctly until the voter leaves the polling place. Please do this every time a voter says something to you.”

Bahr said in an interview in September that the email was poorly worded but was meant to avoid a debate that would slow down the voting process. Phone calls to his office on Thursday went unanswered.

Missouri is among several Midwestern states seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases. The state reported 3,553 new cases and 18 deaths on Thursday. All told, Missouri has reported 196,576 confirmed case and 3,106 deaths. The positivity rate of 15.2% is triple the benchmark recommended by the World Health Organization.

The state also set a new record for hospitalizations, with a seven-day average of 1,721 — 49 more than the record set a day earlier.

When Trump won, Democrats spent 3 years crying the election was a fraud because of Russian interference but failed to prove it. Now that Trump is losing, the election is suddenly holy and beyond reproach

Democrats conceded on election day though. On the other hand Trump is pretty much threatening civil war if he losses.

Despite the Russian investigation, the Democrats never claimed that Clinton should be made president.

I wanna see what champions of democracy say this time.
Will Trump get a visa to Russia and spread democracy from Moscow?

Heck, UK is a safe haven for criminals like Nawaz Shareef. I want Russia to help Ol' Donald.

Kyun Nikala Mujhe

Looks like Democrats are gonna have to make an American Version of "Adiala jail wait tera kardi Mian"

:))

It will be epic. I almost* want a little all American civil war to start so yanks taste some of the evil they have been spreading around the world for a century.

(*But then I would be sad for innocent victims)

They did not say that. There was no attempt to delegitimise the election process. They claimed that Trump personally had colluded with a hostile foreign power in order to influence voters. Had they succeeded in impeachment, the election result would have stood and Pence would have become President. But the 2016 votes were all counted, just as they are in the current process. Trump is trying to stop legally cast votes being counted. That is an attempt to interfere directly in the democratic process.

Trump lead narrows to just 660 in Georgia.

Trump lead cut to 16,000 in Pennsylvania.

Update from Georgia - Trump now leads by just 463 votes

Joe Biden is continuing to reduce Donald Trump's lead in the key state, with 99% of the votes counted.

Both candidates remain neck and neck on 49.4%.

It's going to be very close and Mr Biden could flip the state. It's certainly leaning that way.

Biden is now 900 ahead in Georgia.

If he takes Georgia then Trump has no path to a second term.

You really have to admire the way democracy is working in the States.

During a global pandemic, high numbers of infections in the states, millions of postal ballots due to Covid and the people continue to count the votes.

Absolutely amazing when you think of the number of votes and the vast size of the country and they way the polling stations have carried on.

Trump behaving like a child. Cringe

Trump is a man child.
He's fortunate he had a rich father.

Nothing wrong with that of course but with the many failed businesses and bailouts he's had over the years, this man clearly would have been nothing had it not been for his inheritance.

Joe Biden has taken the lead in a key state in the fight for the White House, as Donald Trump doubled down on unsubstantiated claims his political opponents are trying to rig and steal the US election.

As votes continue to be counted in Georgia, Mr Biden is now leading in the normally-Republican state by 917 votes.

Biden is leading Georgia now. He may lead Pennsy too once all the votes are counted. If he gets these states he wins the election.

We all know India has much higher infections than US, its just a matter of testing.....

In terms of per capita infections and deaths, some major European nations are higher than the US, but anti-Trump media will never highlight that fact

I agree. Despite the sitting President trying to discredit the process - an act of sedition for which he should be put on trial - the process is working to conclusion.

President Donald Trump's two sons have rebuked Republicans for failing to back the president as he struggles to win re-election.

Mr Trump's eldest son Don Jr accused the party of being "weak". His brother Eric warned: "Our voters will never forget you if your [sic] sheep!"

The spat reflects an emerging rift between Trump disciples and the party.

The election still hangs in the balance but Democratic candidate Joe Biden appears to be closing in on victory.

Mr Trump has vowed to mount legal challenges to the vote-counting process after claiming, without evidence, that there is widespread voter fraud.

Senior Republicans such as Utah Senator Mitt Romney and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan have warned against undermining the democratic process.

But Don Jr, who is thought to have political aspirations of his own, reserved his ire for those who may be eyeing up a presidential run in 2024.

He wrote on Twitter: "The total lack of action from virtually all of the '2024 GOP [Republican] hopefuls' is pretty amazing.

"They have a perfect platform to show that they're willing & able to fight but they will cower to the media mob instead. Don't worry @realDonaldTrump will fight & they can watch as usual!"

The tweet was in response to one from Mike Cernovich, a men's rights activist and Trump supporter, who had criticised the president's former UN ambassador, Nikki Haley.

She is widely thought to be preparing a White House bid in 2024.

Mr Trump Jr continued: "Republicans have been weak for decades which has allowed for the left to do these things."

His brother, Eric, tweeted: "Where are Republicans! Have some backbone. Fight against this fraud. Our voters will never forget you if your [sic] sheep!"

The two men went on to name and praise Republicans they deemed to have been vocal in defence of their father.

Other Trump backers also piled on and took aim at Ms Haley in particular. Matt Gaetz, a Florida congressman, tweeted: "While some of us are fighting for President Trump... Nikki Haley is eulogising him. Sad!"

In his four years in politics, Mr Trump has managed to bend the Republican party to his will, consistently achieving above 90% approval ratings from self-identified party members.

The party manifesto this year was scrapped and replaced by a pledge to "support the president's America-first agenda".

This row between the Trumps and the party establishment will raise questions about which direction the party goes after Trump departs, whether that is in 2020 or 2024.

The beacon of democracy can count 160M votes during a commercial break of America's Got Talent, but make a complete mockery of counting election votes.

Biden took the lead in PA

Goodnight folks.

Joe Biden has taken the lead in the key states of Pennsylvania and Georgia in the fight for the White House.

As votes continue to be counted in Pennsylvania, the Democratic hopeful now has 5,587 more votes than Donald Trump.

Correct. Radical left are now saying their attempt was to highlight collusion but I guess they havn't read the US Constituion.

Simply put, the Dems/Libs shouted rigged, colusion, and fraud, when Trump won (and with Brexit). Trump is saying the same thing now.

Dems and Liberals are just being hypocrits now, and should be held responsible for destroying trust in Western democracies. Though my money is now Biden/Harris putting the final nail in the coffin of the radical left.

Biden leading by 1100 in Georgia and 7000 in Penn, and climbing.

His lead is holding at 11k in Nevada and 47K in Arizona.

Biden ends on 306, Trump on 238.

Indeed. When Trump (and Brexit) won, Youtube was flooded with Liberal Meltdown videos. I doubt we will see the same with Republicans.

Though would say Trump played his final hand quite poorly (claiming fraud without evidence). Not a great chapter end. You can come back in politics after losing, but to throw the toys out the pram devoid of evidence, frankly, no chance.

Georgia holding recount.

From BBC feed:

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger has just announced that the state's presidential contest will go to a recount.

He says that 4,169 votes remain to be counted, and that some 8,000 military absentee ballots are still in the mail and will only be counted if they arrive by the end of the day.

"Right now Georgia remains too close to call," he says, adding: "With a margin that small there will be a recount in Georgia."

"Interest in our election obviously goes far beyond Georgia's borders. The final tally in Georgia at this point has huge implications for the entire country."

"We are looking at a margin less than a large high school," Raffensberger's aide Gabriel Sterling added after the Republican official left without taking questions.

Sterling, who oversees voting for the state, added that the reason for the recount is due to how close the race is, and that they have not seen "any widespread irregularities" that would indicate foul play.

Pelosi is dishing out the wrath for Dems failure to gain power in the Senate and House.

Simply, there was no blue wave, and once you seperate the hysteria from the facts, the Democrats may have won the election, but they didn't win the campaign.

This election proved that Trump's win in 2016 was no fluke. With a higher turnout, more votes, more votes from non-white demographics, Trumpism has massive support, and the blue wave turned out to be dripping tap water.

Biden appears close to winning the presidency after taking the lead in Pennsylvania with 98% of votes counted

If he wins Pennsylvania, he wins the presidency

The Democrat has also taken a narrow lead in Georgia with 99% of votes counted, but officials there announce there will be a recount

Biden also has a slender lead in Nevada and Arizona

Victory in any two of these three states would also win him the White House

President Donald Trump again asserts he has won the election, though votes are still being counted

He complains of “tremendous corruption and fraud in the mail-in ballots", without giving evidence

Joe Biden says people should remain calm as votes are counted, adding he has "no doubt" he will emerge the winner

Overall turnout is projected to be the highest in 120 years at 66.9%

Taking an eternity for the media networks to call the election. Not sure what they're waiting for given the remaining mail in votes in PA, GA and NV favour Biden as they're generally in the big cities like Philly and Vegas.

Georgia Governor calls for a recount.

Fair enough, it’s almost a tie. Doubt it will change the result though. A hundred or so votes might be found for one or the other.

It does show that Trump is an effective campaigner, handicapped as he was by COVID. Closest election since 2000, and upsetting the pollsters who predicted a Reagan-level landslide.

The non-white thing has to be looked at State by State - Biden picked up more Hispanic support than Hilary in AZ for instance. Lots of white males (traditionally GOP) broke blue too.

Joe Biden says he is on course to win a "clear majority" in the US presidential election and take most of the remaining battleground states to push him above 300 Electoral College votes.

As counting continues in a series of nail-biting races, the Democratic candidate claimed he had already got a "mandate for action", seeking to pile pressure on Donald Trump to concede.

He admitted the process of calling a result "moves very slow" but urged for an end to "partisan warfare", urging Americans to "remain calm, patient and let the process work out".

He only needs the latter's 20 Electoral College votes to add to his existing 253 to push him over the 270 line that will guarantee him the keys to the White House.

But Mr Trump, who is ahead in North Carolina and Alaska, is ramping up unsubstantiated and contested claims the election was rigged against him.

"I had such a big lead in all of these states late into election night, only to see the leads miraculously disappear as the days went by," he tweeted.

"Perhaps these leads will return as our legal proceedings move forward!"

Senior Republicans have stepped in to warn that the baseless allegations of mass fraud will lead to "destructive and dangerous passions" running high, and urged for vote counting to continue.

Election administers are ploughing on with tallying up results.

In some states they are having to wait for deadlines for mail-in ballots and those from overseas voters to reach them before declaring a final result, because the margins are razor-thin.

But Mr Biden has tried to present himself as the president-elect - a term already used to describe him by the most senior Democrat in Congress, Nancy Pelosi.

Speaking from his home state of Delaware late on Friday night, the former senator pointed to how he had leapfrogged Mr Trump to take the lead in some states.

"We're going to win this race with a clear majority, with the nation behind us," he predicted.

Winning the most votes of any presidential candidate ever also gave him a "mandate for action on COVID, the economy, climate change and systemic racism", Mr Biden added.

And striking a reconciliatory tone following protests outside some counting centres by supporters of Mr Trump, he said: "We don't have any more time to waste on partisan warfare."

The speech sparked some cheers from the crowd, but shouted questions from journalists went unanswered.

Meanwhile the president is holed up in the White House, where his chief-of-staff has tested positive for coronavirus.

Mark Meadows frequently appeared at public events without wearing a face covering - including the Mr Trump's election night party.

It was there in the early hours of Wednesday that Mr Trump first tried to undermine the result and vowed to take his fight to the Supreme Court.

While a recount gets under way in Georgia, a local Republican official there overseeing the count, Gabriel Sterling, said "we're not seeing any widespread irregularities".

And the Democrat mayor of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania Jim Kenny, told Sky News: "What the president needs to do is put his big boy pants on, he needs to acknowledge the fact that he lost and he needs to congratulate the winner."

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tried not to wade into the row about the legitimacy of the election.

But he said he has "every confidence" in the checks and balances of the US system and promised to "work closely" with whoever wins.

Analysis: Already a sense the Biden era has begun
By Greg Milam, US correspondent

If it wasn't the victory speech that Joe Biden had hoped to deliver to the American people at primetime on a Friday night, it was certainly a striking proclamation of the very different direction he is offering the country.

The soon-to-be president-elect, standing alongside his vice presidential pick Kamala Harris, had been expected to merely provide a progress report on the state of the slow march to an election result.

Instead, on COVID-19, the economy, climate change and the divisions in society, he offered the American people a real glimpse of what they can expect from his administration.

We have heard much of it before, on the campaign trail and since Election Night, but the Biden-Harris project is now looking like it will be a reality for the American people come January.

He mentioned Donald Trump by name just once - to boast about the vote margin - but there was no mistaking his belief that America has spent four years on the wrong path.

If the verbal stumbles and uncertainties that are part of the Biden package were sometimes noticeable, there was no mistaking his belief in what the country needs right now.

He did what presidents usually do: Faced up to the crises gripping the country, empathised with the victims and promised to work towards a way out.

The intent was clear: To project himself as the president-in- waiting, filling the vacuum left by the current occupant of the White House, as he spends his time ranting and raving about the election result.

Who wouldn't agree with Biden's call for the vitriol to be taken out of political and social discourse? It is an easy call to make but, in today's America, a very different proposition to deliver.

The reality is that there are thousands of supporters of Donald Trump who are unwilling to even accept that Biden will be a legitimate president.

They are making their views plain and many of them are determined to hound Biden in office just as they believe the current president has been unfairly attacked by his political opponents.

No-one is going to heal those divisions overnight. We can only hope that Biden is true to his word that he is serious about bridging the divide.

Even before the result has been declared, there is a sense that the Biden era has already begun.

And just like that no more Russian colluision. Time to investigate China collusion with Biden. Lets investigate how many of Biden's lot have connections with China and how they influenced this election, through funds, social media, and business deals - oh wait, the election process is sound now according to the Democrats - there was no collusion, and the Chinese government are saints.

Eng game in progress

State of play.
Georgia - Biden leads 7248
Nevada - Biden leads 22,657
Arizona - Biden leads 29,861
Pennsylvania - Biden leads 28,833
Big batch of results expected to be released in Pennsylvania at 0900 which are expected to extend Biden’s lead.
Penn alone gets Biden past 270

Trump must be going nuts at his legal team now. Nothing they can do, no evidence of cheating. I can see him being taken out of the WH in a straitjacket.

A GA election teller has gone into hiding as a video of him throwing a piece of paper away went viral. His car plate number is now public property.

This is going to get really nasty.

Two men arrested in Philadelphia with a bag of ballots. They were caught with QANON hats and guns.

Any guesses which candidate were they trying to deliver the ballots for???

:)

what are you smoking? post your sources

Its not about sources
Its the glaring hypocrisy where Democrats are angry at anyone doubting anything about this election. Yet, they kept making accusations about the last election and Russian interference and hacking and so on for years

Oh and covid 19 will mysteriously vanish after Biden's inauguration day. Just like that, as if by magic!

What will happen is that it will be reported in a very matter of fact way
Even if Biden makes no material changes, any drop in cases will be seen as his achievement

When cases went down over summer, Trump was not credited (and should not have been)

Yet any drop in cases or deaths from January onwards will be seen as Biden himself working magic to make them reduce

Russian interference in the last election is pretty much confirmed. But yes there is no evidence of Trump colluding.

With all due respect, what’s happening now is just Trump being a sore loser. To be fair, Hillary also needed a day to get over her defeat but she conceded right after and now it’s time for Trump to do the same.

If he gets people to maintain social distance and wear masks then yes credit would go to him.. especially as Trunk has flouted scientific advice which specifically advocated these things.

US Election results: Biden predicts victory over Trump as counts go on

Joe Biden has again said he is confident of victory as he inches closer to beating Donald Trump after Tuesday's US presidential election.

The Democratic challenger now has 253 of the 270 Electoral College votes needed to clinch the White House under the state-by-state US voting system.

Mr Biden leads vote counts in the battlegrounds of Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Arizona.

A Biden win would see Mr Trump leave office in January after four years.

As counting enters its fifth day, it is still unclear when the contest will end.

Officials are tallying up record numbers of postal votes due to the coronavirus pandemic, causing the longest delay to a presidential election result in 20 years.

What did Biden say?

"We're going to win this race," Mr Biden told supporters in Wilmington, Delaware, on Friday night, striking a confident tone. He was joined by his running mate, California Senator Kamala Harris.

He said he was on track to win more than 300 Electoral College votes and pointed out that more people had voted for his campaign - over 74 million people - than any US presidential candidate in history.

Mr Biden said Americans had given him a mandate to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, the struggling economy, climate change and systemic racism. On Friday for the third straight day the US set a fresh record for new Covid-19 cases, with more than 127,000 infections.

The Democrat - presenting himself as the candidate of unity after a bitterly fought campaign - said it was time to "get the vitriol out of our politics" and "be civil to one another".

"We may be opponents but we're not enemies, we're Americans," said Mr Biden, who did not mention his Republican opponent, Mr Trump.

Mr Biden's appearance had originally been planned as a victory speech, but he opted instead to give a general update on the state of the race as US TV networks cautiously held off declaring him the winner.

The Democrat said he hoped to address the nation again on Saturday.
