33-Year-Old Killed By Married Lover, Body Dumped In Septic Tank In Bhopal

Police claim to have cracked the case within 24 hours, revealing a twisted tale of love, betrayal, blackmail, and murder that began on Instagram and ended in a septic tank.

Bhopal:
A decomposed body of a 33-year-old woman was recovered from a septic tank in an empty plot in Bhopal's Nishatpura area on Thursday evening. Police claim to have cracked the case within 24 hours, revealing a twisted tale of love, betrayal, blackmail, and murder that began on Instagram and ended in a septic tank.

The victim has been identified as Ashrafi alias Siya, a resident of Gondia district in Maharashtra. According to investigators, Siya was strangled on Monday by her married lover, Sameer, with the alleged help of his family members. Her body was stuffed into an iron box and dumped into a septic tank near their home in Kamla Nagar to erase all traces of the crime.

About a year ago, Siya and Sameer connected on Instagram. What began as casual chats soon turned into an affair. Blinded by love, Siya left her home in Maharashtra and moved to Bhopal nearly three months ago to live with Sameer. She believed she was beginning a new chapter of life.

But Sameer was already married and the father of two children. As Siya began living in his Kamla Nagar home, daily disputes erupted. According to police sources, frequent arguments broke out between Siya and Sameer's wife. Neighbours reported loud quarrels and tension in the household. Sameer had reportedly hidden several facts from Siya, and domestic unrest escalated rapidly.

Investigators say Siya was pressuring Sameer to marry her. Police sources claim she demanded Rs 5 lakh if he refused and allegedly threatened legal action. The situation grew volatile. Sameer's wife, unable to bear the tension, reportedly left for her parental home in Jabalpur.

On Monday evening, another heated argument broke out between Siya and Sameer. According to police, in a fit of rage, Sameer strangled Siya.

To destroy evidence, Sameer allegedly sought help from his brother, mother, and sister. The body was sealed inside an iron box and, under the cover of the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, thrown into a septic tank in a vacant plot near their home.

On Thursday evening, children playing nearby complained of a foul smell coming from the tank. Residents noticed an iron box floating inside and immediately alerted police. When officers reached the spot and searched the tank, they made the horrifying discovery of Siya's decomposed body inside the box.

Due to advanced decomposition, visible injury marks were unclear. However, police identified the victim by a distinctive tattoo of a lamp on her hand and the date "26 May 1992," believed to be her date of birth.

Manoj Patwa, Inspector of Nishatpura police station, confirmed that the body appeared to be three to four days old. He also stated that the initial investigation pointed toward strangulation.

While Sameer remains absconding, police have arrested his brother, mother, and sister for allegedly assisting in disposing of the body. Sameer's wife is also under the scanner. Investigators suspect that more family members may have had knowledge of the crime.

Police sources also revealed that Siya's past was complicated. She had reportedly been married three times earlier in Maharashtra and Rajasthan. However, officers stress that the motive and full sequence of events will become clearer after forensic reports and post-mortem findings are complete.

Telangana couple arrested for allegedly killing 17-year-old daughter over inter-caste relationship, faking it as suicide.

A chilling case of alleged honour killing has come to light in Telangana’s Karimnagar district, where a couple has been arrested for killing their 17-year-old daughter after she refused to end a relationship with a man from a different caste.
The case initially appeared to be a suicide. The parents had approached the police claiming that their daughter had died due to chronic stomach pain, prompting authorities to register a case of suspicious death and order a post-mortem examination along with viscera analysis.
What followed, however, unravelled a far darker truth. Forensic reports revealed that the teenager did not die by suicide but was throttled to death

As investigators dug deeper, they found that the girl had been in a relationship with a man from another caste in the same village, a relationship her parents strongly opposed. Police said the teenager refused to end the affair despite repeated warnings.

Unable to accept her choice, the parents allegedly forced the girl to consume insecticide and then strangled her, later attempting to pass off the murder as suicide.
The accused couple has been arrested and will be produced before a court on December 26, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.

'No Park for Specially-Abled Child': Delhi’s Sunder Nursery Guard Bans Her, Asks Her to Leave - Why?

A specially-abled girl and her mother were reportedly manhandled and barred from swings by a Sunder Nursery guard in Delhi, sparking public outrage and calls for inclusion and legal action.

New Delhi: A specially-abled girl and her mother went to Delhi's Sunder Nursery for a picnic but were confronted by the park’s security guard instead. According to a self-recorded video posted online, the mother alleged that the guards not only prevented her daughter from using the swings but also manhandled them. Other parents in the park intervened promptly, yet the guard reportedly remained persistent. The video has since sparked public outrage online.
"A Delhi government park. A child with disability. And full security called to remove the little child. Security guard says: ‘We don’t allow specially abled children in this park.’ Father says: ‘Delhi has lakhs of children with disabilities. Are the govt parks not for them too?’ The real question is: Are these security guards here to protect our children — or to intimidate them?"

The mother emphasised that her daughter is equally capable of doing anything that other children could do. She further urged the Delhi government to look into the matter, saying, "No child should be banned from the park. Inclusion is not optional."

Failure of Policy or Moral Collapse

The incident has sparked a wider debate online, with residents describing the act as a moral collapse rather than a policy failure. One comment read: "Kicking a disabled child out of a playground is not a policy failure; it is a moral collapse, witnessed in public. Good luck to us fighting for animal rights in a society that treats its disabled children like this."
Another comment stated: "See how it slowly slips from animals to humans ..!! Harmony and coexistence is a society issue.. if we don’t protect that then this is what happens. At this point many parents or all parents with kids (disabled or otherwise) should file a case against him so this extends to all the parents and get him go through some legal battles or at least a bail.. that’s the only language the security guard the company would get to understand."

A Hyderabad techie killed his 29-year-old pregnant ex-wife at her residence on Wednesday, poured petrol in the room and then threatened to set it on fire before being arrested.

A Hyderabad techie killed his 29-year-old ex-wife at her residence in Hyderabad on Wednesday, the police said. As per a complaint filed by the woman's current husband, she was three months pregnant. However, the police has said it is yet to be confirmed as the post-mortem report is awaited. As per the police, the accused, in his 30s, barged into the victim's residence and after finding her inside a room, locked it from inside, and repeatedly stabbed her on her head and body with a knife, resulting in her instant death.
At the time of the incident, the woman's mother-in-law was in the verandah of the house, while her brother-in-law in a different room.

After being informed by her family members and neighbours, police reached the spot and found that the accused had poured petrol in the room, which he brought with him in a can, and had locked himself in the washroom. He threatened to set off fire in the room with a lighter he was carrying and after being convinced by the police officials, he came out of the washroom and was taken into custody, a police official said.

Based on preliminary investigation, police said the accused bore grudge against his ex-wife as she had filed a domestic violence case against him. Police said after their marriage in India in 2022, the accused went to Canada, where the accused worked as a software employee, and the deceased later joined him there. "Some differences arose between the couple and after staying with him for five days she later returned to India and subsequently filed domestic violence case against him in Maharashtra," they said.

The couple got divorced in 2024, and a year later, she remarried in April 2025. The accused came to India from Canada in March 2025 following the death of his mother, a police official said.
A Look-out Circular (LOC) was issued against him because of the case and his passport was suspended and he was unable to go back to Canada since then and was presently residing in his native place in Peddapalli district of Telangana, without any work.
The accused felt that he and his family faced mental suffering due to the case. He also felt that his mother's death was due to the mental agony caused by the estranged wife, police said.
The accused developed a grudge against her and decided to eliminate her, police said. He managed to locate her residential address through her social media account and came to Hyderabad two months ago and stayed in a hostel. He also "recced" the victim's apartment recently.
As per his plan, he came to the apartment on Wednesday with a bag containing two knives, a drilling machine, a can containing five-liter petrol among other items. CCTV footage broadcast by local TV channels showed the man carrying a bag and walking in the corridor of the apartment.

He Killed Nephew, Tried To Extract Liver For "Ritual" To Win Back Wife

The incident occurred in Sarai Kalan village in Alwar district. The child, identified as Lokesh, was reported missing on July 19.

Alwar:
A man and a self-styled 'tantrik' have been arrested in Rajasthan for the murder of a six-year-old boy, who was allegedly killed for use in an occult ritual aimed at reconciling the accused's estranged marriage.

The incident occurred in Sarai Kalan village in Alwar district. The child, identified as Lokesh, was reported missing on July 19. That same evening, his body was found concealed under straw in an abandoned building. His throat had been slit. Multiple syringe marks were later discovered on the body, with police claiming that the man and the occultist extracted blood for black magic.

Two days later, Lokesh's uncle, Manoj Kumar, was arrested after a police investigation revealed discrepancies in his account. Manoj eventually confessed to the crime, stating that he had murdered the child on the advice of a 'tantrik', Sunil Kumar, who was subsequently taken into custody on July 22.

According to police, Manoj's wife had left their home some time ago following a domestic dispute and was residing with her family in her native village. Desperate to bring her back, Manoj reportedly sought the help of Sunil Kumar.

Sunil allegedly demanded Rs 12,000 and the liver and blood of a child as offerings for a ritual designed to subdue Manoj's wife and compel her return. Manoj agreed.

On the afternoon of July 19, Manoj lured his nephew Lokesh, the son of his brother-in-law Bintu, away from home on the pretext of buying him toffees. Instead, he took the boy to a deserted, half-ruined house in the village. There, police say, Manoj strangled Lokesh and attempted to drain his blood using syringes. He then concealed the body in a room filled with straw and logs, intending to extract the liver later.

Lokesh's disappearance was reported that same day by his father. A search was launched immediately, and by 8 pm, the child's body was discovered hidden in the abandoned structure. Initially, Manoj had joined family members in searching for Lokesh, even visiting the site where the body was eventually found.

The case was initially registered against unknown persons. As the investigation progressed, CCTV footage from the area led police to question Manoj more closely.

Upon interrogation, Manoj allegedly broke down and disclosed the full sequence of events, including the involvement of Sunil. The police then arrested Sunil from his village and are now probing his role in other possible instances of occult-related crimes.

A used syringe was recovered from the scene, allegedly the same one used by Manoj in an attempt to draw blood from the child's body. Forensic teams have secured additional samples and evidence from the house, which has since been sealed.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

After the attack, Hardik went to his mother’s workplace — where she works as an assistant manager at an insurance company — and asked her to return home with him. Once there, he also attacked her, leaving her with multiple injuries before fleeing the scene in a car. Hearing Neelima’s cries for help, neighbours gathered and rushed her to hospital and is now reported to be out of danger.
Hardik was arrested within 24 hours of the incident. During interrogation, police said he admitted that constant advice from his family to focus on his career and avoid romantic relationships had built up resentment over time.

Greater Noida Dowry Case: Accused Mother-In-Law Arrested Following Son's Detention

In a new development in the Greater Noida dowry case, police have arrested Nikki's mother-in-law, Dayawati, after previously arresting her husband, Vipin Bhati.

Greater Noida: In a major development in the Greater Noida dowry case, Kasna police have made another arrest.

After taking Nikki’s accused husband, Vipin Bhati, into custody, the police have now arrested Nikki's mother-in-law, Dayawati, in connection with the case.

Earlier, two disturbing videos of the incident surfaced on the internet, and in one of the videos, Nikki was clearly seen being dragged by her hair and assaulted by her husband and mother-in-law. In another, she is seen limping down the stairs, badly burned, moments before she died, captured by her sister Kanchan.

Nikki, married to Vipin Bhati since 2016, was allegedly set ablaze by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands. Despite her family giving a Scorpio car and valuables at the time of marriage, her in-laws allegedly continued to demand Rs 36 lakh. Nikki’s sister, Kanchan, married into the same family, claimed that both sisters were regularly harassed and beaten. On the day of the incident, Vipin allegedly assaulted them, struck Nikki, and then poured petrol before setting her on fire.

Accused Husband Vipin Bhati Sent To Custody
Earlier, the accused Vipin Bhati was shot in the leg during an encounter with the police, and later was admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida. Now, as per the latest report, he has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody.

The accused will remain in Luksar jail as of now. Despite being married for eight years and her family already having given a Scorpio car and other valuables, the in-laws continued to demand Rs 36 lakh in dowry, according to her sister Kachan. Both sisters, Nikki and Kanchan, were married into the same family in 2016, Nikki to Vipin Bhati and Kanchan to his brother, Rohit Bhati.

Nikki's father also said that their in-laws had been harassing her for dowry and that her mother-in-law poured kerosene on her, while Bhati set her ablaze. “They kept asking for dowry, now their demands have been met because my daughter has died. They demanded a car and tortured her for that,” he said.

Further, he claimed that the family had once taken Nikki back home due to constant domestic violence, but societal pressure forced them to return her after assurances from her in-laws. “That person is neither man nor human, he is a butcher. We trusted their promise, but it continued. Now they have got what they wanted,” he said

‘They Slapped Her, Then Burnt Her’: Son Recalls Mother's Brutal Death
In a heart-wrenching account, Nikki’s six-year-old son recalled the horrific incident, saying: “Meri mumma ke upar kuch dala, fir unko chanta mara, fir lighter se aag laga di.” (They poured something on my mother, slapped her, and then set her on fire with a lighter). His testimony has added significant weight to the case, as the child directly named his father and grandmother as the ones who set his mother ablaze.

The victim’s father also recounted the horrifying events, revealing that Nikki had sustained nearly 70 percent burn injuries. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries on the way. Expressing his anguish, he said, “These monsters didn’t think twice before setting someone’s daughter on fire. They should be hanged. Even my grandson has told everyone how it happened.”

The woman, identified as Roopa Hanumant Gowdar, is currently undergoing treatment after allegedly consuming diesel. Her children, Samruddhi (5), Preetham (4), and Sukshith (2), were found dead

A 27-year-old woman in Karnataka's Bagalkote district allegedly killed her three young children by hanging them before attempting suicide.

The woman, identified as Roopa Hanumant Gowdar, is currently undergoing treatment after allegedly consuming diesel. Her children, Samruddhi (5), Preetham (4), and Sukshith (2), were found dead inside their house.

According to Bagalkote Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goel, the incident took place between 10:00 am and 1:30 pm on Sunday. A detailed investigation is underway, and police officials said they are examining all angles to understand what led to the tragedy.

Gurugram CEO Questions Indian Parenting: "Children Are Treated Like Owned Assets"

According to Knot Dating co-founder, Indian parenting is "one of the worst models globally"

Hundreds of books have been written on parenting. From authoritative and permissive to uninvolved, soft, and conscious. Then comes Indian parenting, about which a thesis can be written. It is quite different from what you will come across in the rest of the world. Culturally, Indian parenting is rooted in the "elders are always right" phrase.

Children are often told in India to respect elders, irrespective of how they behave and talk. Questioning a tradition or an orthodox approach handed down by the generations before you is often frowned upon and met with reprimand. But Jasveer Singh, co-founder and CEO of Knot Dating, did not hold back in his latest post on X (formerly known as Twitter) and critiqued Indian parenting "left, right, and centre".

Gurugram CEO Calls Indian Parenting "One Of The Worst Models Globally"

"Indian parenting is pressure cooker parenting," he said, adding, "One of the worst models globally."

The Gurugram-based CEO noted that Indian parents are not evil, but the system is broken and no one is willing to question it. "Most Indian parents didn't raise children. They raised outcomes," he wrote.

“A pistol was found in the boy's hand, and the car was locked from the inside. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Manisha Singh was quoted as saying by PTI.
According to preliminary investigation, it appeared that the man first shot the girl and then committed suicide by turning the pistol on himself. Senior police officials and a forensic team visited the scene, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, police said.

'15 Saal Sath Reh Kr...'

The man left behind a note which mentioned that the two had been dating for the last 15 years and that the woman had promised to marry him. However, he recently found out that she was going to marry some other person which could have led to a dispute between the two.
What appears to be a What'sApp message, he said in Hindi, “I am going to die. Rekha is responsible for this. She lived with me for 15 years and promised that she would marry me, but now she is going to marry someone else. That is why I am committing suicide, because Rekha has betrayed me. Because of this, I am ending my life.”

Girl's Fingers Cut Off In Karnataka School, Parents Allege Staff Threw Them Away

The girl's mother, Ambhika GH, said that her daughter Chinmayidevi, a Class 1 student, was badly injured while students were lining up for their meal.

Bengaluru:
A six-year-old girl lost two fingers in a tragic accident at a government school in Karnataka's Tumakuru district on February 9. Following the incident, an FIR has been registered against the headmaster, a teacher, a Cluster Resource Person (CRP), and the Block Education Officer (BEO) for negligence and other offences.

According to the FIR filed at the Tumakuru Rural Police Station, the incident took place during the mid-day meal at the Government Model Higher Primary School in Guluru village.

The girl's mother, Ambhika GH, said that her daughter Chinmayidevi, a Class 1 student, was badly injured while students were lining up for their meal. A teacher reportedly called the mother around 2:30 PM, claiming the child had suffered a "minor injury" and asking her to come to the school. However, when the parents arrived, they found their daughter unconscious and bleeding heavily.

The complaint alleges that while the students were in line, someone pushed an iron door from behind. The child's right hand got caught in the door gap, severing two of her fingers.

The parents have accused school authorities, including Headmaster Nagesh and CRP Venkatesh, of gross negligence. They claim no immediate medical help was provided, and the child was kept inside the school until they arrived. The parents allege that when they asked for the severed fingers, school staff told them the digits had been thrown away to avoid "frightening" other children.

The girl was eventually taken to Tumakuru Government Hospital on her father's motorcycle for treatment.

The following day, when a local Gram Panchayat member contacted the Block Education Officer (BEO), Hanumanthappa, to question the school's conduct, he allegedly dismissed the matter and made derogatory caste-based remarks before hanging up.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under Sections 125(a), 238, and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. An investigation is currently underway.

Sub-Contractor Detained After Delhi Biker Falls To Death In Construction Pit

Sub-contractor Rajesh Prajapati was informed about the accident hours earlier but failed to take any action, officials said.

New Delhi:
Delhi Police has detained a sub-contractor in connection with the death of a biker who fell into a pit dug by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) in Delhi's Janakpura, officials said on Saturday.

Investigations revealed that the sub-contractor Rajesh Prajapati was informed about the accident hours earlier but failed to take any action, they said. He is likely to be placed under arrest.

Prajapati is currently in police detention and is being questioned.

According to the investigation, a family passing through the area on the intervening night noticed that the victim, Kamal (25), may have fallen into the pit. They immediately alerted a security guard deployed at the site and a person living in a tent nearby.

The security guard, employed by Prajapati, informed a junior staff member the same night, stating that a person had fallen into the pit, police said.

The junior staff member then called Prajapati at around 12.22 am and asked him to reach the spot. Prajapati subsequently arrived at the site and saw a motorcycle inside the pit but failed to check inside or take any further steps, officials said.

Kamal Dhyani, a resident of Kailashpuri and an employee of a private bank, was returning home when he fell into the nearly 15-feet-deep pit dug for a sewer pipeline rehabilitation project.

An FIR has already been registered at Janakpuri Police Station under section 105 (culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the contractor and concerned DJB officials.

The Delhi government has ordered a probe into the incident, while the victim's family has alleged negligence on DJB's part and suspects a criminal angle in his death.

Police said the investigation is being carried out on priority, and strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty.

Religious Ritual Turns Deadly: MP Man Beheads Two, Claims ‘Goddess Was Angry’ After Wife’s Miscarriage

A 21-year-old man in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district allegedly beheaded two neighbours during a midnight ritual, believing a goddess was angry after his wife’s miscarriage. The accused lured the victims to a religious ritual and attacked them with a sharp weapon. Two others were seriously injured while intervening.

A 21-year-old man in Madhya Pradesh allegedly beheaded two of his neighbours in Singrauli district, after luring them into a religious ritual. The man was under the impression that the goddess was angry and killed the two people. Two people who came to intervene were also seriously injured.
The brutal murder of the young man and woman at midnight in Lohara Bairihwatola, a village panchayat in Atarwa, under the Jiawan police station area of Singrauli district, has spread terror throughout the area.

What Happened During the Ritual?

The 21-year-old accused, Chhatrapati Singh, had invited the neighbors, Phool Kumari Singh (50) and Kemla Singh (65), along with others, to the puja. He attacked her with a sharp weapon right there. He also attacked two people who tried to intervene.

The investigation so far has revealed that the accused's wife had suffered a miscarriage. This led him to believe the goddess was angry and that he would have to perform a puja.

Moreover, the police team also found puja materials at the crime scene.

Fear and Panic in Village

It is reported that villagers got to know about the shocking incident in the morning, following which a large number of people gathered at the scene. This has created an atmosphere of fear and tension in the village.
Upon receiving the information, the Jiawan police station in charge arrived at the scene with police force, cordoned off the area, and began an investigation. Police are collecting evidence from the scene.
The police have taken the accused into custody and are investigating the crime. Moreover, the administration has appealed to the villagers to maintain peace and ignore rumors.

Ghaziabad ‘Human Sacrifice’

In a similar shocking incident, a group of friends allegedly killed one of their own and set his body on fire to destroy evidence last month. Police arrested two of the accused, who confessed to committing the murder as part of a so-called “human sacrifice.” A third accomplice is currently absconding, and a search operation is underway.
The arrested accused are Pawan (25) and Sagar (24), also known as Pandit, both residents of Nishant Colony in Ghaziabad. The third accused, Naseem, also known as Iqbal, remains on the run.
During interrogation, the accused told police that Naveen was their friend and that they had taken him to Delhi to meet a tantrik. According to police, the tantrik claimed that performing a human sacrifice could bring wealth and divine blessings. The accused further said that Naveen had asked whether the sacrifice could involve a friend.
Police said these conversations influenced the accused, who later conspired to kill Naveen. On the night of January 13, the group gathered at Sagar’s room and consumed alcohol. They then attacked Naveen with a gas cylinder, killing him on the spot.

I have stopped caring, man’: Found dead in US, Indian student Saketh's last days of ‘surviving on chips and cookies’

Saketh Sreenivasaiah's roommate wrote, “The opposite of life was never death. It was indifference. To stop caring…”

After the search for 22-year-old Indian student Saketh Sreenivasaiah ended with local authorities recovering his body from a lake in California on Saturday, February 14, details emerged of the last two weeks before he went missing on February 9.

The body of Sreenivasaiah, who was a postgraduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, was found in Lake Anza, located within the Tilden Regional Park near the Berkeley Hills.

The Indian Consulate in San Francisco confirmed the grim news via a post on X, extending "heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time".

While the local police were yet to reveal the official cause of death, harrowing details have emerged from Sreenivasaiah’s final days, suggesting a period of withdrawal.

Missing for a week, then bag on a doorstep

Saketh Sreenivasaiah, who was from Tumakuru in Karnataka, was pursuing a Master of Science in the Product Development Programme at UC Berkeley. He was last seen on February 9, the same day his father also last spoke to him.

Alarm was raised when he failed to return to his accommodation. Roommates initially searched all known locations before lodging a formal complaint with the Berkeley Police Department.

A clue emerged during the search when his backpack containing his passport and laptop was discovered on a doorstep in the Park Hills area.

On Saturday, the Indian mission in San Francisco expressed deep concern over his disappearance, noting they were in constant touch with both the family and local law enforcement. Less than 24 hours later, the mission confirmed that police had recovered his body from Lake Anza.

'I’ve stopped caring,' he said: Roommate’s account

Sreenivasaiah’s roommate Baneet Singh, also from India, shared a poignant and troubling account of the student’s final two weeks.

In a post on LinkedIn that he later made private, Baneet Singh revealed that while life as an international student is inherently tough, Saketh had shown specific signs of distress recently.

According to him, Sreenivasaiah had "started eating less and engaging less, only surviving on chips and cookies" over the last fortnight before he went missing.

He recalled a jarring interaction when he saw Saketh returning from class "wearing a red bathrobe". When asked why he was wearing a robe to his lectures, Saketh is said to have replied: "I've stopped caring, man. I'm cold and don't care what anyone thinks of me. I don't care about anything".

Baneet Singh admitted that he initially laughed at the remark, thinking his friend was "just being silly as usual".

Reflecting on the tragedy, the roommate wrote, "The opposite of life was never death. It was indifference. To stop caring, which led to him not caring for his own life, either".

He also noted that Saketh had invited him to Lake Anza as early as January 21, but he had declined the invitation due to laziness.

IIT Madras to UC Berkeley

Saketh Sreenivasaiah was recognised as a high achiever with a promising academic career. Before moving to the United States for his master’s degree, he graduated from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, where he completed a Bachelor of Technology in chemical engineering.

His sudden death has sent shockwaves through both his alma mater in India and the UC Berkeley campus. His parents, desperate for news, had written to Karnataka chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh on February 13, seeking the state government’s intervention. Following this, the Karnataka government requested the Indian ministry of external affairs (MEA) to extend all possible assistance through the Consulate General in San Francisco.

The Indian consulate has since assured the family that it is providing all necessary assistance to navigate the legal and logistical formalities required in the aftermath of the death, for the repatriation of his mortal remains.

Roommate Baneet Singh also mentioned that he is working with authorities to help fly Saketh’s family to America on an emergency visa. In his message, Baneet Singh urged others to take this tragedy as a reminder to check on their friends and loved ones.

"I didn't expect this from a friend who lived, ate, travelled, laughed and joked with me. It hurts," he added.

Man shoots girlfriend, kills self in car in Noida after failed marriage ‘promise’

Police said the two reportedly knew each other for 15 years, and that the man decided to end his life after she decided to marry another person due to pressure.

A 32-year-old man reportedly shot dead a 26-year-old woman he was in a relationship with and then killed himself inside a car in Sector 107 of Noida on Saturday morning, police said, adding that they recovered the pistol from the man’s right hand.

Police said the two of them reportedly knew each other for 15 years, and that the man had decided to end his life after she decided to marry another person due to familial pressure.

After being informed by a sanitation worker about the bodies, police found that the car was locked from the inside. “When we reached, the car was locked and both were lying dead on the front seats. After breaking the rear window of the car, we retrieved their bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination,” a police officer, who is part of the investigation, said on the condition of anonymity.

The officer said, “A pistol was found in the man’s right hand while both had sustained gunshot wounds from right to left. No signs of struggle were found inside the vehicle.”

Police said the deceased ran a water plant business and stayed with his family in Delhi’s Trilokpuri, while the woman was a resident of Noida’s Sector 101 and worked with a private company.

Manisha Singh, additional deputy commissioner of police, Noida, said, “Prima facie, it appears that the man shot the woman and then died by suicide. Whether it is a suicide pact or murder-suicide will be confirmed in the autopsy report, which would reveal at what distance the shots were fired.”

Police said there was no CCTV camera in the vicinity of the car’s final location. A team is scanning CCTV footage to check when they arrived at the spot. The incident took place barely two kilometres away from the woman’s house. They said that the gun used in the crime was an illegal weapon and they are probing how he had gained access to it.

Missing since evening’

The elder brother of the deceased man said that the two of them had been out of reach since late Friday.
“My brother used to pick up and drop the woman from office to home for the past several years. On Friday, around 5pm, he left home to pick her up. Minutes later, my wife received a WhatsApp message from an ISD number, which triggered panic in our home,” he told HT.

The message, accessed by HT, read: “I am going to end my life and the woman is responsible for my death. In the 15 years of our relation, she promised me marriage but now she is going to marry someone else. Due to this, I am going to end my life as she cheated on me.”

Police said they are verifying the message. The man had then switched off his mobile and remained unreachable, and the woman had also switched off her mobile phone later, the family said.

The man and the woman’s families approached the Mayur Vihar Phase 1 police station to file a missing person complaint. “We were threatened by the woman’s family for her disappearance. When we asked them to approach the police, they then filed a complaint at Sector 58 police station in Noida,” the brother said.

But neither family was aware of either of them being stressed.

“Around 7pm on Friday, my daughter called my wife to inform her that she was returning home. But when she did not reach after two to three hours, we approached the police,” the woman’s father told HT.

“About a year ago, the man approached us with a marriage proposal but we refused. After that, they both maintained distance. We were unaware that they were in contact,” he said

He also said that the family was not planning to get the woman married immediately, as they were occupied with some other issue. The man’s brother said that the woman’s family used to live in Ashok Vihar, Delhi, earlier and they refused the couple’s union due to caste differences. “He bought the car, in which they were found dead, around four months ago and also bought a flat in Noida to live with her after marriage.”

No case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Family's 'big claim' on motive behind Noida suicide-murder: ‘Couple victim of…’

The man's family described the circumstances around the couple's death as ‘suspicious,’ alleging murder.

Family members of the Noida man, who was allegedly found dead with his girlfriend inside a parked car on Saturday, have revealed the reason behind the couple's death.

The family claimed that the couple was subject to caste-based threats and claimed that the the couple may have been murdered.

The man, 32 and the woman, 26 were found dead inside a locked parked car in Noida Sector 107 with a pistol. Police said that the initial reports suggest that the man shot his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself inside a parked car.

Police earlier said that prima facie the case appeared to be a suicide, with preliminary probe suggesting that the man shot his girlfriend and then killed himself, news agency PTI reported.

The family claimed that they received threats, including from international numbers warning of police action, and the couple also received taunts from the woman's family.

Family says couple ‘victim of casteism’

A cousin of the man alleged that the couple's death was a murder, adding that both were "victims of casteism." The couple had been in a relationship for over a decade, and their families were aware of it, the cousin reportedly said.

He also said that the man had been in a relationship with the woman for 12-15 years, and she also attended family functions of the man's family. The cousin who is older than the man said that there was never any pressure from the man's side of the family.

Describing the circumstances around the couple's death as ‘suspicious,’ the relative pointed out that the car was found only a few hundred metres from the woman's village in Salarpur.

Police points to possibility of suicide

Police reportedly claimed that a pistol was recovered from the man's hand, and the car was also locked from the inside. This, according to officials, indicates the possibility of a suicide.
Officials also said that forensic teams have inspected the scene, and a post-mortem examination is awaited. They said that all angles are being examined, including the family allegations.

The couple was found on Saturday near pillar number 84 on Dadri road, which falls under Noida's Sector-39 Police Station.

Samarjit Singh travelled to Russia in July 2025 through recruitment agents. They claim he was lured with promises of a high-paying job, but upon arrival, he was allegedly forcibly conscripted into the Russian army, according to his family.

Ludhiana:
Samarjit Singh, a 21-year-old from Ludhiana, Punjab, left home for Russia last year with dreams of a better future. Eight months later, on Friday, his body arrived at his family home in the Daba area.

According to his family, Samarjit travelled to Russia in July 2025 through recruitment agents. They claim he was lured with promises of a high-paying job, but upon arrival, he was allegedly forcibly conscripted into the Russian army.

The family maintains that Samarjit received no military training before being sent directly to the front lines. His relatives last made contact with him in September 2025. Shortly after, he went missing in the war zone.

His remains arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Thursday and were transported to Ludhiana for his last rites, which were performed on Friday.

Standing beside his son's funeral pyre, Charanjit Singh made an emotional appeal to the public, urging parents not to send their children abroad based on the deceptive promises of agents.

Charanjit Singh, who runs a small grocery store in the Amarapuri area, struggled to hold back tears.

"I appeal to everyone: do not put your children's lives at risk out of the temptation to send them abroad through agents," he said. "No matter how dire your financial circumstances may be, do not take such a step. I have lost everything."

The family revealed they spent months pleading with officials for help after Samarjit went missing, but received no concrete assistance. His father remarked that Samarjit's decision to leave was driven solely by the desire to help the family. "Had there been employment opportunities here, my son would never have gone abroad. He went because he wanted to help us," he said.

The grieving father said, "We do not even know what happened to him in his final moments."

Muslim Man, Hindu Lover Murdered, Buried In UP, Woman's Brothers Arrested

The senior police officer said a case of murder has been registered against the woman's three brothers

In a chilling case of dishonour killing, a 27-year-old Muslim man and his 22-year-old Hindu lover were tied up and hacked to death, allegedly by the woman's brothers, in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad.

Arman, who worked in Saudi Arabia, had been living in Moradabad for some months. During this time, he met Kajal and the two started a relationship. Kajal's brothers were opposed to the interfaith relationship and asked her to end it.

About three days back, Arman and Kajal went missing. Arman's father, Haneef, filed a missing persons complaint. During their investigation, police found Kajal was also missing. Her brothers were questioned, and they confessed to killing the couple. The accused also guided the cops to the spot where they had buried the bodies. The bodies were dug out last evening. The accused told the cops that they tied up Arman's and Kajal's hands and legs before hacking them to death.

Satpal Antil, Senior Superintendent of Police, said, "During the investigation, we found that the woman's brothers killed them. When the brothers confessed, we recovered the bodies. The spade used in the murders was also recovered."

The senior police officer said a case of murder has been registered against the woman's three brothers. Two of them have been taken into custody. Determined not to let the shocking crime lead to a communal flare-up, police have deployed heavy force in the village where the couple lived. The situation, they said, is under control.

Arman's sister told NDTV that they were not aware of any relationship between him and Kajal. "He was working in Saudi Arabia for four years. He came three months ago," she said.

A Testimony 5 Years After Journalist's Murder: "Played Song After Killing"

Salma Sultana Murder Case: Five years after journalist Salma Sultana was killed and secretly buried beneath a road in Chhattisgarh's Korba city, a courtroom revelation has stunned the state.

Korba:
A cigarette burnt slowly in the darkness. A lifeless body lay still. And in the silence after murder, a song floated through the room.

Five years after journalist Salma Sultana was killed and secretly buried beneath a road in Chhattisgarh's Korba city, a courtroom revelation has stunned the state. An eyewitness has described a scene so chilling that it sounds lifted from a crime thriller, except it was horrifyingly real.

According to testimony before Additional Sessions Judge Garima Sharma, accused Madhur Sahu showed no sign of fear, panic or remorse after allegedly strangling his live-in partner to death in 2018. Instead, eyewitness Komal Singh Rajput told the court, he stood beside Salma's body, lit a cigarette and began humming her favourite song. "Tujhe Naraz Nahi Main Zindagi, Hairaan Hoon Main..." from the film 'Masoom'.

Komal Singh, who worked as a computer operator at Madhur Sahu's gym, testified that on the day of the incident she had been invited to Salma's home in Sharda Vihar. What began as an argument between the couple quickly spiralled into violence.

According to her statement, Madhur first attempted to strangle Salma during a heated exchange. When the confrontation escalated, he allegedly threw her onto the bed and strangled her again. Co-accused Kaushal Shrivas reportedly pressed a pillow over Salma's mouth to silence her.

When Komal tried to intervene, she told the court she was warned, "Stay quiet, or you'll meet the same fate."

Moments later, the room fell silent. Salma was dead. And then came the moment that has shaken the courtroom, Madhur, holding the body with one hand, smoking with the other, softly singing her favourite song. Not grief. Not shock. Just a tune.

Komal further alleged that after the murder, Madhur forced her and the household maid, Savita, to send a message from Salma's phone to her family: "I'm leaving. Don't bother me." The phone was switched off. The illusion of voluntary disappearance was created.

The witness also claimed that Madhur stored compromising photographs of several women on his computer and used them for blackmail. She testified that she had tried to inform a police officer and a relative of Salma's about the crime, but word reached the accused, and she was threatened into silence.

What followed was a calculated concealment. Investigators say the accused buried Salma's body under a road under construction near Bhawani Dabri. For five years, vehicles rolled over that stretch of asphalt, unaware that a journalist's remains lay beneath.

The secret surfaced only in 2023, when police deployed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and satellite-based mapping technology. The road was excavated. A skeleton was recovered. DNA testing confirmed it was Salma. The case that once appeared to be a disappearance reopened as a brutal homicide.

Public Prosecutor Sunil Sonwani confirmed that 41 witnesses have already deposed in court, with 10 more remaining. Investigators say the charge sheet and forensic evidence have significantly strengthened the prosecution's case. But it is Komal Singh Rajput's testimony, particularly the image of the accused calmly singing after the murder, that has emerged as the emotional and evidentiary centrepiece of the trial.

As the case approaches its final arguments, all eyes in Chhattisgarh are now on the courtroom. The verdict, when it comes, will not just decide the fate of the accused; it will close a chapter that has haunted Korba for five long years.

Father sells baby boy for ₹1 lakh in Odisha; child rescued, 2 detained

The incident came to light after a video purportedly showing the father bargaining with a prospective buyer went viral on social media.

Odisha Police have rescued a two-and-a-half-year-old boy who was allegedly sold by his father to a man for ₹1 lakh, officials said.

Both the seller and the buyer have been detained.

The incident, which took place at Barisahi village in Nilgiri Notified Area Council area, came to light after a video purportedly showing the father bargaining with a prospective buyer went viral on social media.

A local activist subsequently lodged a complaint at Nilgiri police station.

PTI, however, could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

"The baby was rescued from Chiminibhati area and handed over to the child welfare committee. Further investigation is underway," Nilgiri Sub-divisional Police Officer Pramod Kumar Mallick said, adding police have detained two persons in this connection.

Police identified the father as Rakesh Kumar Behera alias Kua, a mason, who allegedly received ₹50,000 as the first instalment.

Behera claimed financial hardship prompted the move.

"We have four children and are facing difficulty in raising them. A known person arranged the buyer and I handed over the baby," he told reporters.

Police sources said Behera had married twice and the child allegedly sold was born to his second wife, who was living separately from him.

What man said in last message before shooting girlfriend, self in car in Noida

According to police, the two had known each other for nearly 15 years and were reportedly in a relationship.

A 32-year-old man allegedly shot dead his 26-year-old girlfriend before turning the gun on himself inside a parked car in Noida’s Sector 107 on Saturday morning, police said. The pistol was recovered from the man’s right hand.

According to police, the two had known each other for nearly 15 years and were reportedly in a relationship. Investigators suspect the man took the extreme step after the woman decided to marry someone else, allegedly due to family pressure.

As reported by HT earlier, the incident occurred barely two kilometres from the woman’s residence in Sector 101. There were no CCTV cameras in the immediate vicinity where the car was found, officials said. Teams are now scanning footage from nearby routes to determine when the two reached the spot.

Man's last message to family

Before the incident, the man allegedly sent a message to his family. In the message, accessed by HT, he wrote: “I am going to end my life and the woman is responsible for my death. In the 15 years of our relation, she promised me marriage but now she is going to marry someone else. Due to this, I am going to end my life as she cheated on me.”

After sending the text, the man switched off his phone and became unreachable. The woman’s phone was also switched off later, family members said.

Police said they are verifying the authenticity of the message.

The deceased man ran a water plant business and lived with his family in Delhi’s Trilokpuri. The woman, a resident of Sector 101 in Noida, worked at a private company.

'Both missing since evening’

The elder brother od the deceased man said the couple had been unreachable since Friday evening.
The man’s elder brother said, “My brother used to pick up and drop the woman from office to home for the past several years. On Friday, around 5pm, he left home to pick her up. Minutes later, my wife received a WhatsApp message from an ISD number, which triggered panic in our home."

The woman’s father told HT, “Around 7pm on Friday, my daughter called my wife to inform her that she was returning home. But when she did not reach after two to three hours, we approached the police.”

He added that about a year ago, the man had approached the family with a marriage proposal. “About a year ago, the man approached us with a marriage proposal but we refused. After that, they both maintained distance. We were unaware that they were in contact,” he said.

‘Marriage proposal rejected’

The woman’s father also said the family was not planning her marriage immediately as they were dealing with other issues at the time.
Meanwhile, the man’s brother claimed that the woman’s family had earlier lived in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar and had opposed the relationship due to caste differences. He also said the man had bought the car around four months ago and had recently purchased a flat in Noida, allegedly with plans to live with her after marriage.

No case had been registered at the time of reporting, and further investigation is underway.

Murder-suicide or suicide pact?

Manisha Singh, additional deputy commissioner of police, Noida, said the exact sequence of events would be confirmed after the post-mortem.
“Prima facie, it appears that the man shot the woman and then died by suicide. Whether it is a suicide pact or murder-suicide will be confirmed in the autopsy report, which would reveal at what distance the shots were fired,” she said.

An officer added, “A pistol was found in the man’s right hand while both had sustained gunshot wounds from right to left. No signs of struggle were found inside the vehicle.”

Police also said the firearm used in the crime was illegal. Investigators are probing how the man procured the weapon.

Rajasthan Honeymoon Murder: They Met 7 Years Ago, Reconnected In 2024, Committed Murder A Year Later

The accused, 23-year-old Anjali, met 25-year-old Sanjay at a function where he was working as a waiter. While they exchanged words and he gave her his number, Anjali did not own a mobile phone at the time, and the two lost touch.

What began as a chance meeting seven years ago ended in a brutal crime on January 30, when a newlywed woman allegedly orchestrated the murder of her husband in Rajasthan, just three months after their wedding day.

The case, which is now being called 'Rajasthan's honeymoon murder', traces back to a wedding in 2018. The accused, 23-year-old Anjali, met 25-year-old Sanjay at a function where he was working as a waiter. While they exchanged words and he gave her his number, Anjali did not own a mobile phone at the time, and the two lost touch.

In 2024, after Anjali finally purchased a phone, she reconnected with Sanjay. Gradually, their interactions increased, and they entered a relationship.

However, her family had other plans. Despite her involvement with Sanjay, her parents arranged a match for her.

On October 30, 2025, Anjali's family married her to Ashish Kumar, an MCom graduate from Rawla.

Anjali herself was a BCom graduate. After the wedding, she moved to Rawla, but she was unhappy.

The 225-kilometre distance between her marital home in Rawla and her hometown in Sadulshahar was not just geographical for her; it became an emotional burden. She continued to stay in touch with Sanjay.

About 16 days before the murder, Anjali visited her parents' home. According to police, it was during this time that she and Sanjay planned to kill Ashish Kumar.

Although they did not meet in person after the wedding, they frequently spoke on WhatsApp calls. On the day of the murder, both spoke 5 to 7 times.

On the night of January 30, after dinner, Anjali - as part of the plan -asked her husband to go for a walk with her. She then informed Sanjay of their location over the phone.

Sanjay, along with his two associates, Rohit alias Rocky and Badal alias Siddharth, waited in the bushes along the road.

As soon as Anjali arrived at the location with her husband, she allegedly gave the signal to the men. The group ambushed Ashish, striking him repeatedly with sticks. While he lay on the ground, still breathing, they used a muffler to strangle him.

A Staged Robbery Plan

To make the incident appear like a robbery or accident, Anjali handed over her earrings and Ashish's mobile phone to the attackers. She then lay on the road pretending to be unconscious.

After receiving information from passersby, police reached the spot and took both to a hospital, where Ashish was pronounced dead on arrival.

Post-Mortem Reveals Truth

The post-mortem report revealed that Ashish had severe injuries on the back of his head and he died due to strangulation. This revelation shifted the direction of the investigation entirely.

All the accused have now been arrested. The three men have been remanded for 5 days and Anjali was remanded for two days and then sent to Bikaner Jail.

Killed Husband For Waiter: New Details In Rajasthan Honeymoon Murder

Anjali, 23, from Sadulshahar in Sri Ganganagar district, married 27-year-old Ashish three months ago, and the match seemed perfect on paper.

Shock and gloom have shrouded two families, who knew each other well and had seen three marriages between their members, after a woman killed her husband with the help of her lover and his friends in Sri Ganganagar district - an incident that is now being called Rajasthan's honeymoon murder.

Anjali, 23, from Sadulshahar in the district, married 27-year-old Ashish from 1-KLM village, just 30 km from the Pakistan border, three months ago, and the match seemed perfect on paper. Ashish had completed his M.Sc in Geology and was pursuing a B.Ed degree. Anjali was pursuing an M.Com degree, and the icing on the cake was the close ties between her and Ashish's families.

As a child, Ashish was adopted by his uncle and aunt, who had no son of their own. They raised him lovingly and, a few months ago, his adoptive mother arranged his marriage with Anjali, who is her niece.

When NDTV spoke to them on Thursday, Ashish's family members recalled that Anjali seemed to be settling in with them well. They were, thus, even more distraught and stunned by what happened on January 30.

Anjali and Ashish went out on a walk with Ashish's cousin, Ankit, and his wife that evening. "We went towards the village for our usual walk. We normally don't take the deserted route. But Ashish dropped me and my wife home, and then, at Anjali's insistence, they took that route," Ankit said.

The family was later told that Ashish and Anjali were found unconscious in what was thought of as a hit-and-run. Ashish was declared dead at the community health centre, while Anjali, who said her gold jewellery had been stolen after the accident, kept flitting in and out of consciousness.

Injuries on Ashish's body, inconsistencies in Anjali's story, and a thorough investigation by the police, however, revealed that the death was not an accident, but a murder planned by the newly married woman. Anjali, it turned out, had rekindled her romance with her former boyfriend, Sanju, who worked as a waiter at wedding functions.

Sanju and two of his friends were hiding in the bushes along the road and, when Anjali and Ashish got there, they attacked him, strangled him and tried to pass off the killing as a road accident. Anjali gave her earrings to Sanju, lay down and pretended to be unconscious when the police arrived.

'Should Be Given Death Penalty'

At Ashish's village, people still remember the pomp with which the wedding was celebrated and are both shocked and angry. Ashish's father, Ramrakh, called for the death penalty for Anjali, while his mother was too inconsolable to speak.

"Anjali's behaviour always seemed normal. She mixed well with the family. After the murder, she pretended to be unconscious and didn't speak to us," Ramrakh recalled.

Rage rising in his voice, he continued, "We want her to be given the death penalty. Even her family agrees with us."

Anger And Shame

The atmosphere was not much better at Sadulshahar's Chhajgariya Mohalla, where Anjali's family has lived for about 40 years.

Anjali's father died 13 years ago, and she lived with her mother, two brothers and their wives. After her wedding to Ashish, she had returned home for some time on the pretext of studying for her M.Com degree.

Neighbours said Anjali had met Sanju in Sri Ganganagar city, about 30 km away, and the family may have known about their relationship. The marriage with Ashish, they suggested, could have been her family's way of making sure that she forgot about Sanju, but Anjali got in touch with him when she returned home after the wedding.

Anjali's uncle, however, vehemently denied the suggestion.

"We are devastated. We have been connected to this family for 50 years. Our customs are such that we ensure our daughters are married only into families known to us. Two of my sisters are also a part of that family. We had no idea about this relationship. We are deeply ashamed. If we had known, we would have died rather than allow this marriage to happen," he told NDTV.

"Anjali is my niece. Her father passed away about 13 years ago. We want Anjali and the three men to be given the death penalty. The way Ashish suffered and died... she should face the same punishment. She has destroyed us. We don't know how to face people," he rued.

'Unlikely Match'

Pointing out that Ashish's family was well-off and recalling seeing "a large number of fancy cars" during the wedding, neighbours also expressed surprise that Anjali chose to kill him to be with Sanju, who was not educated and barely made ends meet.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Police officials said Sanju lost his father a few years ago and has two brothers and two sisters. "He works as a waiter for caterers during weddings and other functions. He had no criminal record and, yet, carried out the murder with his friends Rohit, alias Rocky, and Badal," said an official.

UP

In another incident, a UP man allegedly plotted the murder of his wife and two minor daughters in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district in December. The crime happened in Ghari Daulat village, under the Kandhla police station area, the police told the PTI news agency.

The man, identified as Farukh, allegedly shot his wife and two minor daughters and buried their bodies inside his house following a family dispute.
The 37-year-old UP man later confessed to the crime, saying that he shot his wife dead first and then killed his daughter. According to the police, Farukh first shot and killed his wife, Tahira, while she was preparing tea at home.

Later, as their elder daughter, Afreen (12), was also shot when she tried to stop him. The younger daughter, Shaireen (5), was later strangled when she arrived at the spot, the SP said.
Police said the accused subsequently dug a pit inside the house and dumped the bodies to conceal the crime. Mother Parades Crying Daughter with Brick-Filled Bag in Busy Market in Bihar - VIDEO

A mother in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, sparked outrage by forcing her daughter to carry a brick-filled school bag through a market. Despite public pleas and warnings, she continued the physical abuse.

Mother Forces Daughter To Carry Bricks In Muzaffarpur Viral Video: A disturbing incident in Bihar has sparked widespread outrage after a mother was seen parading her young daughter through a busy market with a school bag filled with bricks hanging from her shoulders. The incident reportedly took place at Mithanpura Market in Muzaffarpur. Passersby noticed the girl crying as she carried bricks and stones in her bag. Witnesses said the bag weighed as much as 10 bricks - a crushing burden for a child to carry. When confronted, the mother reacted defiantly. The crowd urged the woman to discipline the child privately at home instead of humiliating her in public. But the woman continued with her abusive behaviour and was seen slapping her daughter on the footage, despite pleas to stop.

The footage has sparked massive criticism and a serious debate about the trauma risk to the child. According to those present, the punishment stemmed from a domestic dispute. The woman later claimed she could not afford her daughter’s education. The crowd responded that she could consider placing the child in an ashram instead of physically and mentally torturing her in public.

The crowd even warned the woman about involving the authorities, but she did not stop. She said she would beat up her daughter once they returned home.
Social media users are demanding swift action from local authorities and child rights bodies, though no official complaint or response has been reported so far.

Two Class 8 Friends Die By Suicide Within Two Days In Maharashtra

Two Class 8 students from the same school in Buldhana died by suicide within two days, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances behind the back to back tragedies.

In a shocking incident in Buldhana, nearly 400 Km from Mumbai in Maharashtra, two Class 8 students from the same school died by suicide within a span of two days, leaving their families and the local community in shock. On Wednesday (February 11), 14-year-old Naman Arun Raut, a student of a private school, allegedly hanged himself at his residence. Just days later, on Saturday (February 14), his close friend and classmate, Atharva Vaibhav Rane, also allegedly died by suicide by hanging at his home after returning from school.
Naman’s parents are teachers, while Atharva’s father himself a police officer serves in the prison department. The back to back deaths of the two minor friends have raised several questions, and police have launched an investigation to determine the connection and circumstances surrounding the incidents.

The case comes days after a 15-year-old Class 10 student died by suicide at her residence in Nagpur. The girl was the daughter of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. According to a report by TOI, a suicide note was recovered from the spot, in which she wrote, ‘Mujhe maaf kar do' (Please forgive me), seeking apology from her parents. Koradi Police have registered an accidental death case in connection with the incident. Investigators believe the deaths may be linked to exam-related pressure or personal factors. Commissioner of Police Ravinder Singal urged students to approach examinations calmly and not succumb to stress.

Locked Door, Unanswered Calls: 22-Year-Old MBBS Student Dies By Suicide in Hostel Room

A 22-year-old MBBS student from Bihar was found hanging in his hostel room at a Durgapur medical college, with his family alleging negligence and academic pressure as police begin a detailed probe.

The body of a 22-year-old medical student was found hanging in the hostel of a Private Medical College in Durgapur on Saturday (February 14) night, police said. The deceased has been identified as Lavanya Pratap, a resident of Patna, Bihar. According to reports, no suicide note was recovered from the site.
According to a report by NDTV, the body was discovered after friends broke open the hostel door when he failed to respond to repeated calls.
After receiving information about the incident, Durgapur Police reached the hostel, recovered the body and secured the area. A Magistrate also arrived at the scene to oversee the legal process. Officials said a preliminary report has been filed documenting the initial findings.

The body was first taken to Durgapur Sub-divisional Hospital and later shifted to Asansol District Hospital for a forensic autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Exam Stress Or Institutional Failure?

Lavanya’s father, Anil Kumar, as per a report by India Today, alleged that the family was not informed promptly by the college administration. “When my son did not pick up the phone, I contacted his friends. They broke open the door and found him,” Kumar said. He questioned the institution’s responsibility towards outstation students. “Students who come from outside states depend entirely on the college. Their safety and mental wellbeing are its responsibility,” he added.

Kumar also claimed his son had been under stress following recent exam results. According to him, Lavanya scored around 50 marks in the written paper but was given only five marks in practicals and had applied for re-evaluation. His next examination was scheduled for March 19. The father further alleged inappropriate behaviour by some teachers, which he said contributed to his son’s distress.

Police said the primary suspicion points toward suicide, but all possible angles, including academic pressure or any foul play, are being examined.
"A report has been submitted, and all findings have been documented. The investigation is ongoing," stated the attending Magistrate.

The case comes months after a horrific gang-rape incident in October 2025, when a second-year medical student from Odisha was allegedly gang-raped close to the campus in Durgapur after going out with a classmate, prompting police to arrest six people, including five local men and her friend.
In his police complaint, the survivor's father had named the friend and said he had "misled her and took her to a vacant place under false pretexts". The police arrested five people from nearby village within 48 hours of the crime and filed an 861-page charge sheet.
It was only last week (February 9), when the the survivor rejoined the institute after completing the cross-questioning about her ordeal as even during the recording of her statement before the magistrate, the student indicated that she wished to continue her medical studies.

West Bengal MBBS Student Raped: Distress Call Reveals Horror; Boyfriend Arrested

Tension gripped Durgapur on Friday night after a second-year medical student from a private medical college alleged that she was raped near the campus.

Durgapur: A second-year medical student from a private college was allegedly raped near the campus in West Bengal’s Durgapur, nearly 172 km away from Kolkata. Her father revealed that the incident came to light when he received a distressing call regarding the alleged assault on his daughter. According to him, the girl is currently in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. The police have arrested a friend of the girl (described as her boyfriend by family), who had taken the girl out on the day of the incident. Ghaziabad Woman Dies After Consuming Sulphas, Family Alleges Friends Cheated Her of Rs 30 Lakh

In Ghaziabad's Wave City, a 23-year-old woman named Karishma died after reportedly ingesting a highly toxic insecticide, sulphas. Her family claims that she faced mental harassment from close friends over a financial dispute involving a significant sum of money.

Ghaziabad: A 23-year-old woman died while undergoing treatment after allegedly consuming sulphas, a highly toxic insecticide, in Ghaziabad’s Wave City area. The incident has led to allegations by her family that she was mentally harassed by her close friends over a money dispute. The woman has been identified as Karishma, daughter of Pawan Verma. According to her family, she was admitted to a hospital in critical condition on Saturday and died on Sunday.
Police have sent her body for post-mortem examination and started an investigation into the circumstances leading to her death.
Karishma’s father alleged that his daughter was harassed by her childhood friend Shivangi, along with Shivangi’s sister-in-law Sapna, a friend Rahul, and another man from Delhi, Rahul Jain. The family claimed that the group conspired to siphon off around Rs 25 to 30 lakh from Karishma’s bank account, according to a report by India Today.

According to the family, Karishma was lured into transferring the money to their accounts. When she later demanded her savings back, she was allegedly subjected to continuous mental harassment and blackmail. The family said the pressure and stress eventually pushed her to take the extreme step.

The family also revealed that Karishma had made a similar suicide attempt around seven months ago. A complaint was filed at the Wave City police station at that time, but the family alleged that no effective action was taken. The matter later reached court, after which the accused side reportedly issued cheques worth several lakhs. That case is still pending.

Police officials said preliminary investigation suggests that the incident is linked to a financial dispute between the two sides. They also said that the accused party has filed a counter-complaint under the SC/ST Act, as per the report.
Officials added that all aspects of the case are being examined carefully. Further legal action will be taken after the post-mortem report is received and all evidence is reviewed.

Greater Noida: 3-year-old killed after slipping into water-filled pit in Dalelgarh village

A letter flagging water accumulation along a Dalelgarh village road was sent on February 4, days before a 3-year-old boy drowned in Greater Noida

Greater Noida: A three-year-old boy was killed after he slipped into a water-filled pit along Dalelgarh village road in Dalelgarh, Greater Noida, on Saturday, police said on Monday.

Days earlier, residents had flagged concerns about persistent waterlogging to the Greater Noida Authority in a letter dated February 4, a copy of which has been accessed by HT.

The deceased, a resident of Sikandrabad in Uttar Pradesh, was visiting his maternal grandfather’s house in Dankaur’s Dalelgarh village.

“The boy’s maternal grandfather was observing a 45-day religious meditation. To mark the completion of this period, the family organised a feast at the temple, and the boy, along with his family, had come to attend it,” president of the Dalelgarh Vikas Samiti Krishna Kant said.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Dankaur Munendra Singh said, “On Saturday, around 11 am, when the boy’s family members had gathered to join a religious feast at a temple in Dalelgarh village, the boy, while playing, went near the water-filled pit and slipped into it.”

“The family began searching after the boy went missing. They found him inside the pit, rescued him, and took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” the SHO added.

The boy is survived by his parents and an elder sister.

Kant told HT, “We had raised the issue of water accumulation along the village road with the authorities earlier as well. The water collects after the nearby drain overflows.”

The letter submitted by the Samiti’s president to the Greater Noida Authority stated: “It is important to highlight that the waterlogged area poses a risk of accidents due to the unknown depth of the accumulated water, along with the absence of proper barricading and warning signage. In light of the recent incident in Sector 150, Noida, it is concerning that if prompt and effective action is not taken, a similar or even more serious accident may occur in the future.”

“The risk is particularly heightened during nighttime, rainfall, or low-visibility conditions, when pedestrians, children, elderly individuals, and drivers may unknowingly step or drive into the water, potentially leading to significant loss of life and property.”

Kant said that following the incident, senior officials visited the spot and assured that the issue would be resolved.

Police said that following legal procedure, the body was handed over to the family members and further investigation is underway.

Andhra Pradesh horror: 7-year-old girl killed, body stuffed in drum; neighbour held

Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused had kidnapped the girl and murdered her inside the house on Sunday night itself.

Police in Madanapalle town of Andhra Pradesh’s Annamayya district arrested a 27-year-old man on Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping and killing a seven-year-old girl from the neighbourhood.

According to Madanapalle town police inspector Mohammad Rafi, the girl was playing outside her house on Sunday evening when she suddenly went missing, triggering panic among family members and residents in the neighbourhood. After searching extensively in nearby areas and failing to trace the child, the family approached the police on Monday morning and lodged a missing complaint.

Superintendent of police Dheeraj Kanubilli and DSP Mahendra immediately constituted a special team led by Mohammad Rafi and launched a coordinated search operation

“We extensively examined a network of CCTV cameras installed across Madanapalle town. During analysis of the footage, we found that a 27-year-old man residing opposite the victim’s house had allegedly lured the child into his residence. Based on this lead, we went to the suspect’s house on Tuesday morning,” the inspector told local reporters.

During the inspection of the house, officers discovered the minor’s body concealed inside a drum meant for storing water. “We immediately took the accused, who was present at the residence, into custody and are questioning him,” Rafi said.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused had kidnapped the girl, murdered her inside the house on Sunday night itself and hidden the body in the drum. “We are suspecting that the girl might have been subject to sexual assault before being murdered, but it can be confirmed only after post-mortem and forensic examination,” the inspector said.

However, locals and family members of the girl prevented the police from shifting the body to the local government hospital for autopsy and demonstrated on the Madanapalle highway, demanding that the accused be awarded stringent punishment.

The police later shifted the accused to the station and deployed heavy security in the area to prevent any law-and-order issues.

Another police official, who refused to be quoted, said there were also allegations that the accused had previously behaved inappropriately with local women. “We are exploring all possible angles, including sexual assault, and further details will be revealed as the investigation progresses,” he added.

3-Year-Old Drowns In Pond In Greater Noida, Weeks After Techie's Death

Villagers said the pond has never been cleaned nor has any boundary been provided around it in decades

A three-year-old boy drowned in a pond in Greater Noida, leading villagers to protest civic apathy weeks after a Delhi biker and Noida techie died while awaiting help.

Devansh, along with his parents Anil and Anjali, were attending a feast at a temple near their home in the village within the Greater Noida area. When the parents could not find their son, the family and villagers started searching for him. Some suspected that the child might have gone near the pond.

The police was informed, who arrived with divers at the scene. Hours later, the child's body was taken out of the pond. It is suspected that the child had slipped into the pond while playing.

Villagers said the pond has never been cleaned nor has any boundary been provided around it in decades. Dankaur Police Station in-charge Munendra Singh said the incident is being considered an accident, but the aspect of administrative negligence is also not being ignored.

An employee of a private bank died after falling into a pit on February 6 that had been dug up for a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) project and fenced with green mesh in West Delhi's Janakpuri. 25-year-old Kamal Dhyani's body and his bike were extracted from the four-metre-deep pit the next morning. Eyewitnesses, local residents and workers said safety arrangements such as barricades, safety nets and adequate lighting were missing around the site.

A probe revealed that the sub-contractor, Rajesh Prajapati, was allegedly alerted about the accident hours before police received information about it, but he failed to take any action.

The incident came weeks after the death of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, who drowned after his car fell into a waterlogged pit near a construction site in Noida's Sector 150 on the intervening night of January 16 and 17. Mehta died while awaiting help for over two hours in the frigid cold and winter fog even as his father stood witness helplessly. His father Rajkumar Mehta claimed the officials and staff arrived at the site without any divers.

Hours After Valentine's Day Dinner, Chartered Accountant Slits Wife's Throat

Late Sunday night, around 11:00 pm, Anshul, who works in Gurugram, called the police claiming that unknown attackers had tried to rob them and had slit his wife's throat.

Haryana:
What began as a Valentine's Day evening for a young couple in Haryana ended in a shocking and brutal death. A man, who had just spent the evening with his wife celebrating the day, later murdered her and then tried to mislead the police with a false story about a robbery.

In Haryana's Bahadurgarh, the mystery behind the killing of Mahak, a bank employee, was solved by Jhajjar Police within just 18 hours. What first appeared to be a case of robbery soon turned out to be a cold-blooded plan by her husband, a chartered accountant named Anshul Dhawan.

Late Sunday night, around 11:00 pm, Anshul, who works in Gurugram, called the police claiming that unknown attackers had tried to rob them and had slit his wife's throat.

But once the investigation began, officers noticed several gaps in his statements. Anshul kept changing his story and couldn't even describe the attackers, which made the police even more suspicious

When questioned strictly, Anshul finally broke down and confessed to murdering his wife. Police said he had long been suspicious of Mahak's character, who worked at HDFC Bank in Gurugram, which led to frequent arguments between them. This suspicion eventually pushed him toward the crime.

Mahak's father, Krishna Kathuria, had suspected his son-in-law from the very beginning.

During the murder, Anshul wore gloves to avoid leaving any fingerprints. He first strangled Mahak and then used scissors to slit her throat.

Both Anshul, a resident of Hisar, and Mahak, from Hansi, had married on September 25 last year.

"Windpipes Were Cut": Delhi Man Slits Throats Of Pregnant Wife, 3 Daughters

First responders at the Prem Chand Park area house on Wednesday morning witnessed a grisly sight - 27-year-old Anita and her daughters, aged three, four, and five years, lying in a pool of blood

New Delhi:
A man allegedly slit the throats of his two-month pregnant wife and three daughters at their residence in the outer north area of the national capital, with police suspecting that his preference for a son could be behind the killings, officials said.

First responders at the Prem Chand Park area house on Wednesday morning witnessed a grisly sight - 27-year-old Anita and her daughters, aged three, four and five years, lying in a pool of blood.

"All four victims had their throats slit with a sharp-edged weapon. The injuries were so deep that their windpipes was cut," a senior police officer said, describing the crime scene as "extremely brutal".

While investigators are probing all possible angles, including a suspected extramarital affair, preliminary inquiry suggests that the gruesome killings may have been triggered by the couple's three girl children and the lack of a son, police said, adding that the suspect, Munchun Kewat, has been missing from the house.

Police said a PCR call was received at 8.07 am on Wednesday regarding the bodies lying inside a room on the ground floor of the house.

The bodies were first noticed in the morning by relatives and neighbours. "This morning, when my brother-in-law's son came with his uncle to go to the market, he was crying. I came down and asked him what happened," Rubi, a relative, told PTI.

"He said aunt and cousins' throats have been slit," Rubi said. "When I asked around, I found out that there had been a murder. No one knew anything about it last night." Prima facie, it appears that Kewat, allegedly intoxicated his wife and daughters before attacking them. He has been missing since early morning and is the prime suspect in the case, police said.

"No specific reason has come to light yet, but it has been learned that they had a dispute around 9 pm last night," a police officer said, adding that all angles, including the possibility of an affair, are being examined.

Rubi said the family, originally from Bihar's Patna district, had been living in the area for the past two years and that the couple did not usually fight. Kewat worked as a vegetable seller at Azadpur Mandi, police said.

Crime and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams inspected the scene and collected evidence. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.

A case under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered and multiple teams have been formed to trace and apprehend Kewat, police said.

The complainant, Rajendra Adivasi, 21, a native of Nowgaon village in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, told police that he has been working as a labourer at the construction site for about a month and was staying there in a temporary room along with his wife, Mamata Ahirwar, 20, and their two-month-old son, Surya.

On Tuesday morning, Rajendra left for work, leaving the baby at home with his wife. He told police that when he returned around 11 am, he allegedly found his wife near a fire pit and saw that the infant was being burnt. He pushed her aside and found that the child had already died.

In his complaint, Rajendra said the baby had been crying frequently over the past few days and that his wife appeared distressed.

During questioning, police learned that the accused allegedly stuffed cloth into the baby's mouth to stop him from crying and tied his legs with rope. After the child died, she is suspected to have placed the body in the fire.

"Our investigation revealed that the infant was killed by his own mother. A case has been registered, and we are examining all angles, including possible domestic or health-related issues," ACP Shankar Reddy said.

The body has been shifted for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.

Delhi Teen Killed, Neck Broken As Cricket Match Argument Turns Violent

The incident took place on Monday evening following an argument over a cricket match in a local park.

A neighbourhood cricket game turned deadly in west Delhi's Tilak Nagar after a 15-year-old boy allegedly had his neck broken in a violent confrontation with three juveniles, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday evening following an argument over a cricket match in a local park.

According to police, a verbal altercation first broke out between the victim and a 12-year-old boy at the game.

"The argument escalated into a scuffle. The 12-year-old later went home and informed his cousins, aged 17 and 13. The three then allegedly went looking for the victim," a senior police officer said.

At around 7.22 pm, the three confronted the teenager in the area. A fight ensued during which the boy sustained injuries to his neck and head and fell unconscious. He was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital by family members and locals, where doctors declared him dead.

An FIR was registered at Tilak Nagar Police Station, and all three juveniles were apprehended.

The victim, Nishant, is survived by both his parents and three brothers. His father works as a tea vendor in the locality.

The boy's mother, Jyoti, said the assault was far more brutal than a routine fight among children.

"They broke my son's neck. Which children don't fight? But they killed him. When we went to the police station, no one listened to us. Instead, they beat us and detained some of our relatives," she told PTI.

The boy's aunt, Rachna, also alleged police apathy.

"My nephew is dead, and the police are doing nothing but harass us. My brother was beaten, and he has injuries. They have not even given us a copy of the FIR. They tore our clothes. Three boys killed my nephew, but no action is being taken," she said.

Rinku, an uncle of the teenager, said the alleged assailants had come looking for the boy at his home.

"I received a call that some boys had come asking for Nishant. My sister-in-law, who was washing clothes, questioned them. Soon after, they took him away. They choked and beat him," he told PTI.

"At first, we thought it was a minor scuffle like children often have, but then we were told he was dead. We rushed him to DDU Hospital," he said.

Rinku, too, alleged harassment at the police station.

A brother of the teenager, who claimed he was in the park earlier, said, "A friend called me saying my brother had been attacked by three to four boys. When I saw him, he was lying unconscious. There was swelling on his neck, punch injuries on his cheek and slap marks on his face. I don't understand what enmity small boys could have that led to this." The area is charged with tension since the death.

The family members were gathered outside the police station, demanding action against the assailants.
