Two sisters died the same day in Rajasthan's Jodhpur after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance. According to police, both woman, identified as Shobha (25) and Vimla (23) were set to be married on Saturday. Their family was preparing for the wedding festivities of their two daughters, when the incident occurred. The wedding celebrations at their home continued until late Friday night. Around midnight, both brides went to sleep and allegedly consumed pesticide. Their health deteriorated soon after, and family members rushed them to a private hospital, where doctors declared both dead.

"Would've Cremated Him Alone": Lucknow Man Who Murdered Father To Cops

Akshat shot his father, Manvendra Singh, in a fit of rage during a fight in the early hours of February 20, chopped his body into pieces and disposed it off.

Lucknow:
Akshat Pratap Singh, a 21-year-old man from Lucknow who murdered his father and chopped the body into pieces, has confessed to the crime during interrogation. Sobbingly, he told the police that if he had the chance, he would have cremated his 50-year-old parent alone, officials said.

Akshat shot his father, Manvendra Singh, in a fit of rage during a fight in the early hours of February 20. Minutes later, he moved the body from the third floor of the family home to a vacant room on the ground floor, where he used a machine to dismember the body. Sources said that he severed the legs below the knees, chopped off both hands, and decapitated the victim. He then disposed of the chopped parts near Sadrauna on the outskirts of Lucknow - around 21 kilometres away from his home.

The accused had carried his father's torso in a blue drum to dispose of it, too, but a knock on his parked car caused him to panic and leave the body in the drum, sources said.

The grisly crime was reportedly witnessed by the accused's sister - whom he threatened into silence.

In a move to divert the police, Akshat filed a missing person report for his father. Sources said that Akshat - who had returned home after committing the crime - was switching his two mobile phones on and off constantly. The police have seized both the phones, and his Instagram account has been deactivated.

Accused bought knife, room freshner

Days before the crime, Akshat had bought a knife - indicating that it was a well-planned murder, sources said.

Sources also revealed that while chopping the body into pieces, the accused used a room freshener to keep the stench away.

Accused stole cash, jewellery from father

A few days before the killing, Akshat had stolen jewellery and cash from the house and blamed the maid for the theft. According to the accused's neighbour, he stole it to buy expensive gifts for his girlfriend and to indulge in debauchery. His father was aware of Akshat's relationship, he told NDTV.

"He was addicted to drugs, which troubled Manavendra," he added.

The accused also transferred a large amount of money to another unidentified person's bank account. The cops are investigating the bank details, officials said.

The neighbour further claimed that the victim fought with a woman on the phone on the day of the incident.

Fight over studies

Sources also revealed that the father-son used to have frequent fights over Akshat's studies.

Akshat was uninterested in studies and had resisted his father's wish that he become a doctor. Sources said this academic pressure had created a long-standing, volatile relationship between them. The businessman had wanted his son to continue the family business, but Akshat had problems with it and wanted his father to pursue something else.

According to the neighbour, there was so signs of remorse on Akshat's face after the crime.

Akshat's mother's death under scanner

Akshat's mother had died 10 years ago; however, the cause of her death remains suspicious as no one in the family is talking about her to the police.

Sources indicate that she died by suicide.

UP Man, Who Spent 23 Years In Jail For Wife, Children's Murders, Acquitted By Allahabad High Court

According to the prosecution, on the intervening night of August 29-30, 2003, Raees allegedly slit the throats of his wife and their three children with a knife following a domestic dispute

The Allahabad High Court has acquitted a man who spent about 23 years in jail after being convicted for the murder of his wife and three children, holding that the prosecution failed to conclusively prove his guilt.

A division bench of Justices Siddharth and Jai Krishna Upadhyay described the case as a "sad commentary on our criminal justice delivery system" and said it required serious introspection.

In its February 16 judgment, the court observed that "real remedial measures like increasing the number of judges, their supporting staff and infrastructure are the need of the hour as merely holding conferences and meetings can never ameliorate the situation".

Acquitting the accused, Raees, the bench remarked that although he was being released, "his real punishment has not come to an end and his real ordeal will begin after his release".

"His parents and siblings may not be alive. His wife and three children have already died and whether his surviving son Ajeem who must be aged about 25-26 years now will welcome his father to his house is also not certain," the bench said.

According to the prosecution, on the intervening night of August 29-30, 2003, Raees allegedly slit the throats of his wife and their three children with a knife following a domestic dispute. The FIR was lodged by the victim's woman's uncle.

The trial court had convicted him of four counts of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

While hearing his appeal against conviction, the high court examined the prosecution evidence, including the testimony of the sole alleged eyewitness," the couple's surviving five-year-old son, Ajeem.

The court noted that during cross-examination, the child admitted that he had given tutored statements at the behest of the informant and a government advocate. He also stated that he was threatened with eviction from the informant's house if he did not testify as instructed.

The bench further took note of an existing land dispute between the informant and the accused, which it said cast doubt on the informant's motives.

The court also examined the medical evidence, which contradicted the prosecution's claim regarding the weapon used. The postmortem reports indicated that the fatal injuries were inflicted by a very heavy incised weapon that almost severed the necks of the victims from their bodies.

The bench observed that this finding negated the prosecution's theory that the injuries were caused by an ordinary knife allegedly recovered at the instance of the accused.

"While it was a gruesome murder of a mother and her three children in the most brutal manner, the prosecution's evidence could not conclusively implicate and prove that the offence was committed by none other than the appellant," it said.

Granting the benefit of doubt, the high court acquitted Raees and directed that he be released forthwith if not wanted in any other case.

Earlier, a Valentine’s Day outing in Haryana's Bahadurgarh, ended in a shocking murder after a banker was allegedly killed by her husband, who then tried to stage the crime as a robbery. Police said they solved the case within 18 hours.

The victim, Mahak, was found dead after her husband, chartered accountant Anshul Dhawan, called police late Saturday night, claiming the couple had been attacked by unknown assailants while returning from dinner. However, officers who reached the scene quickly noticed inconsistencies in his account. Investigators said Dhawan repeatedly changed his version of events and could not provide details about the alleged attackers, raising suspicion and leading to the case being unravelled.

When questioned strictly, Anshul eventually broke down and confessed to the murder. Police said he had been suspicious of Mahak’s character, who worked at HDFC Bank in Gurugram and led to frequent arguments between the couple. Mahak’s father, Krishna Kathuria, said he had suspected his son-in-law from the beginning.
According to investigators, Anshul wore gloves during the crime to avoid leaving fingerprints. He allegedly strangled Mahak first and then used scissors to slit her throat. Police said the murder took place shortly after the couple had spent Valentine’s Day evening together.
