Newlywed Bengaluru man travels 1,000 km to Nagpur, hangs self after wife's suicide

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Suraj Shivanna. According to the police, Suraj got married in October but his wife, identified as 26-year-old Ganvi, allegedly attempted suicide.

Nagpur:
A newlywed Bengaluru man travelled 1,000 kilometres to Maharashtra's Nagpur and allegedly died by suicide at a hotel on Saturday (December 27) after being accused of abetting wife's suicide, said the police, while adding that his mother also attempted suicide but survived. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Suraj Shivanna, who was a resident of Bengaluru's Vidyaranyapura locality.

According to the police, Suraj got married in October but his wife, identified as 26-year-old Ganvi, allegedly attempted suicide. The police said the couple had gone to Sri Lanka for their honeymoon but their trip was cut short after a dispute between them.

Ganvi was rushed to a hospital but was kept on ventilator after her condition deteriorated. She died later during the treatment. The woman's family alleged that Suraj used to continuously harass Ganvi, which prompted her to take the extreme step. Following this, they registered a case against Suraj and his family.

This caused distress among Suraj and his mother, who later went to Nagpur where they allegedly attempted suicide at a hotel on the Wardha Road. The police said Suraj's body was found hanging at the hotel, while his mother was found in an unconscious state. They have now sent Suraj's body for post-mortem and conducting further investigation.

"Suraj Shivanna (36), a resident of BEL Layout in Bengaluru's Vidyaranyapura, hanged himself from a ceiling fan. His wife Ganvi had committed suicide on December 22 in Vidyaranyapura police limits just one-and-half months after marriage. Suraj was booked for abetment of suicide on the complaint of her parents," the police said.

"Alleging threats from Ganvi's kin, Suraj, his younger brother Sanjay (35), and their mother Jayanti Shivanna (60) left for Hyderabad and then arrived here on December 26. After coming to know about Suraj's death, Jayanti also attempted suicide but was saved by Sanjay. She is admitted to AIIMS here," the police added.

Bengaluru:
A 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide nearly a month after her wedding in Bengaluru after facing continuous physical and mental harassment for dowry, police said on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Aishwarya C K, who married Likhith Simha on November 27.

Police said the incident took place on December 24 within the jurisdiction of the Bagalagunte police station. No suicide note has been recovered so far, according to the news agency PTI.

Husband and in-laws arrested

What did the woman's family say?

In his complaint, the woman’s father alleged that despite meeting dowry demands and spending a substantial amount on the wedding, his daughter was subjected to continuous physical and mental harassment by her husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law.

He further claimed that Aishwarya was repeatedly humiliated, intimidated, and abused, and that the harassment continued even after efforts were made to counsel the couple and resolve the dispute. The complainant also said he spoke to his daughter on December 24, during which she sounded extremely distressed, and held her husband and his family responsible for her death.

Based on the father's complaint, a case has been registered against the three accused under Sections 103 (murder), 80 (dowry death), and 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Delhi Crime Shock: 14 Murders in 15 Days Involving 17 Minors - What Police Data Reveals

According to police data, several murders stemmed from snatching attempts that turned fatal, robberies in which the victims resisted, disputes arising out of personal relationships, and neighbourhood quarrels, including arguments over the cleanliness of surroundings.

Crimes in Delhi involving murders have surged rapidly this month, as at least 14 people were murdered across the capital in the first 15 days of December, with police revealing the involvement of at least 17 minors in the killings, officials told PTI news agency on Tuesday (December 16).
The victims included a woman and a minor, and the incidents were reported from multiple parts of the city, including Rohini, east Delhi, Shahdara, southeast Delhi, and north Delhi, they said.

"The cases span a wide range of motives, from financial disputes and robberies to sudden flare-ups over petty issues that escalated into fatal violence," a senior police officer said.

Here’s What Police Data Revealed

According to police data, several murders stemmed from snatching attempts that turned fatal, robberies in which the victims resisted, disputes arising out of personal relationships, and neighbourhood quarrels, including arguments over the cleanliness of surroundings.

In one case, minors allegedly acted in revenge after being forced into extortion or theft by older associates, a senior police officer said.
"There is no single pattern. Many of the incidents appear to be impulsive acts triggered by anger or provocation rather than premeditated crimes," the officer added.
Police said that, except for one incident in northeast Delhi on December 15 in which two brothers were shot dead, all the other killings were the result of stabbing with sharp-edged weapons, primarily knives.
"The most commonly used weapon was a knife, largely because it is easily accessible and does not attract attention at the time of procurement," another police official said.

The profile of the victims cut across socio-economic lines, ranging from auto-rickshaw drivers and daily-wage workers to a first-year law student. The list of victims also included the wife of a temple priest, police said. Officers described the involvement of minors as a matter of serious concern, noting that at least 17 juveniles were found involved in the killings, either as principal accused or as accomplices.
"In several cases, the juveniles were not merely present but played an active role in the assault, including inflicting fatal injuries," he said.

How Were Minors Involved in Crimes?

Investigators said some minors were allegedly drawn into violent crimes by older offenders, while others acted impulsively during disputes that escalated rapidly.
He also pointed out that under the existing juvenile justice framework, minors are not subjected to the same punitive measures as adult offenders.
"This sometimes emboldens criminals to involve minors, knowing they face relatively less severe legal consequences compared to adults," an officer said, while stressing that the law prioritises reform over punishment.
Easy access to sharp weapons, lack of supervision, substance abuse and exposure to violent behaviour were identified as common factors, highlighting the need for coordinated intervention involving families, schools, community policing and juvenile justice authorities, police said.

Telangana: Woman 'abducted' by parents for marrying against their wishes in Hyderabad; case filed

The couple tied the knot four months ago, but the woman’s parents opposed the marriage because they believed the groom did not have a 'proper' job. Both the bride and groom belong to the same caste, and their families are even related.

Hyderabad:
A young woman was forcibly taken from her in-laws' home in Hyderabad’s Narsampally village after she got married against the wishes of her parents, PTI reported. A video of the incident has gone viral.

The couple tied the knot four months ago, but the woman’s parents opposed the marriage because they believed the groom did not have a "proper" job. Both the bride and groom belong to the same caste, and their families are even related.

Woman's in-laws 'attacked' after heated argument

After the couple returned home following their marriage, the woman’s parents and relatives visited her in-laws’ house. A heated argument erupted between the two sides.

The woman was then allegedly dragged out of the house and forced into a car by her parents and relatives.

The husband and in-laws said they were attacked during the incident, with chili powder thrown at them and physical assault.

Kidnapping case filed

A kidnapping case has been filed against the woman’s parents and four other family members at Keesara police station.

The woman later informed the police that she is with her father and plans to visit the police station the next day.

Parents kills daughter, her boyfriend in Jharkhand

Earlier in August, a couple and three of their relatives were arrested for the murder of their daughter and her boyfriend in Jharkhand’s Palamu district. The bodies of 21-year-old Vibha Kumari and her 22-year-old boyfriend, Subhash Kumar, were found in a well in Purni Tariya village.

Vibha’s parents, Upendra Mahto and Kalawati Devi, reportedly disapproved of their daughter’s relationship and urged her to end it. When she refused, they planned the killing. On the night of August 1, Vibha’s parents and three of her paternal uncles lured Subhash to their home, where they killed both and disposed of their bodies in the well.

Faridabad: Teen dies by suicide after being blackmailed with AI-generated pics and videos of sisters

According to the police, Rahul, a second-year B.Com student at DAV College, was distressed by blackmail and ended his own life by consuming some poisonous substance.

Faridabad:
A 19-year-old college student allegedly died by suicide in Faridabad after being blackmailed with AI-generated obscene photos and videos of himself and his three sisters, police said on Monday. The victim, identified as Rahul, was a second-year B.Com student at DAV College and lived with his family in Baselwa Colony.

According to police, Rahul consumed a poisonous substance on Saturday evening, distressed over the blackmail. He was rushed to a hospital but died during treatment, officers said.

Rahul's phone was hacked

In a complaint filed by his father, Manoj Bharti, the family alleged that Rahul's phone was hacked around two weeks ago, after which unidentified individuals used artificial intelligence (AI) to create fake nude photos and videos of Rahul and his sisters. The blackmailers then sent the morphed material via WhatsApp and demanded Rs 20,000.

"The accused threatened Rahul that if he didn't pay, they would make the videos and photos viral on social media. Rahul became extremely distressed by this blackmailing. He was not eating properly. It was around 7 pm on Saturday when Rahul consumed sulphas tablets in his room. We immediately rushed him to the hospital, but he died during treatment," said Manoj Bharti.

He added that, upon checking Rahul's phone, the family found a long chat conversation with one Sahil, who had sent the obscene images and demanded money. The messages also reportedly contained words inciting Rahul to commit suicide.

"Along with Sahil, Neeraj Bharti, a young man known to Rahul, may also be involved in the case. Rahul last spoke to Neeraj on the day of the incident. In the chat, Sahil had also written words inciting Rahul to commit suicide," said the father.

FIR registered against Sahil, Neeraj Bharti, and others

Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR against Sahil, Neeraj Bharti, and others under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Faridabad Old police station on Sunday.

"This case is a serious example of cybercrime in which AI technology has been misused. We are trying to track down the accused based on technical evidence. They will be arrested soon," said Vishnu Prasad, SHO of Faridabad Old police station.

According to the police, the family of Manoj Bharti, who works as a driver, is originally from Siwan district of Bihar, and has been living in Faridabad for the past 50 years.

Of Manoj Bharti's three daughters, two are married. Rahul was his youngest son, the police said.

Haryana woman's psychotic jealousy streak: Four children killed in 2 years over 'better' looks than her

Poonam's most recent victim was a 6-year-old girl, who went missing during a wedding function in Naultha village. She was later found in a storeroom on the first floor of the house, lying face down in a plastic tub filled with water.

Panipat:
A 32-year-old woman from Haryana has been arrested for allegedly murdering three girls over the past two years and for killing her own three-year-old son to deflect suspicion. Police say she was driven by hatred and jealousy toward girls she considered beautiful.

The case came to light after Panipat police uncovered similarities between the deaths while investigating the latest incident on Monday. The most recent victim was 6-year-old Vidhi, who went missing during a wedding function in Naultha village. She was later found in a storeroom on the first floor of the house, lying face down in a plastic tub filled with water.

Police arrested the child’s aunt, Poonam, on Wednesday. Investigators allege that after guests had left, she lured the girl upstairs, drowned her and then locked the room from outside before returning downstairs.

A pattern of killings

During interrogation, Poonam allegedly admitted to three earlier murders. The victims, all related to her, were two 6-year-old girls and a 9-year-old girl. Their families had believed the deaths were accidental and had already performed the last rites.

Panipat Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh said the woman told police she killed two children, including her own son, in Bhawar in two thousand twenty three, and another girl in Sewah in August this year. She has one surviving child.

Police said she drowned her sister in law’s 9-year-old daughter in a water tank at her home in Bhawar village in Sonipat. Fearing that the family might suspect her, she then killed her own son, Shubham. In August this year she allegedly drowned her cousin’s 6-year-old daughter in Sewah village.

Motive rooted in jealousy

When questioned about her motive, the SP said Poonam told investigators she felt hatred toward girls she considered beautiful, becoming jealous at the thought that they might grow up to be more attractive than her.

Police said she appears to show psychopathic tendencies and is not well educated. Officers ruled out any suggestion of child sacrifice in the case.

The relevant police stations have been informed about the earlier offences.

The tragic death of 24-year-old SWAT commando Kajal Chaudhary in Delhi has raised serious allegations against her husband, Ankur, who is accused of assaulting her during a domestic dispute. Kajal, who was four months pregnant, suffered severe injuries and died five days after the alleged attack.

New Delhi: The death of 24-year-old Delhi Police SWAT commando Kajal Chaudhary has sent shockwaves through her family, with her brother alleging that she was brutally assaulted by her husband at their home in west Delhi’s Mohan Garden. Kajal, who was four months pregnant at the time, succumbed to her injuries on January 27, five days after the alleged assault on January 22.

‘I could hear her screaming on the phone’

Recounting the night of the incident, Kajal’s brother Nikhil said he was on a phone call with her when the argument escalated. “I received a call and could hear my sister screaming. Five minutes later, my brother-in-law called and said, ‘mere haathon ye mar gayi hai, aa jao isse lene’ (I have killed her, come pick up her body),” he alleged while speaking to the media.
According to the family, Kajal suffered severe head injuries during the assault and was later declared brain-dead by doctors. “The doctors told us treatment was not possible,” Nikhil said.

Allegations of dowry-related violence

The family has alleged that Kajal faced domestic violence from the early days of her marriage due to dowry demands. Nikhil claimed that her in-laws repeatedly said the dowry should have been more. “Initially, things were fine, but later he also started behaving the same way,” he said, referring to Kajal’s husband, Ankur.
Kajal had earlier given birth to a son in 2024. Their one-and-a-half-year-old child is currently staying with Kajal’s family.

Police officials said Kajal was allegedly hit multiple times, including with a dumbbell, before being taken to a private hospital by her husband. An attempt to murder case was initially registered at Mohan Garden police station. Following Kajal’s death and the family’s complaint, sections related to murder and dowry harassment were added.

Ankur has been arrested and sent to judicial custody at Tihar Jail.
Kajal was recruited into the Delhi Police in 2022 and was posted with the SWAT unit of the Special Cell. Her husband, who works as a clerk with the Ministry of Defence, has been suspended following the incident.

Jhansi horror: Live-in partner killed, body burnt in trunk

Police say accused dumped ashes in a river as a loader driver’s tip exposed the case

Police in Uttar Pradesh are searching for a retired railway employee accused of killing his live-in partner, burning her body inside a metal trunk, and dumping the ashes in a river to destroy evidence.
According to NDTV, the victim—identified as Preeti (35)—was allegedly murdered earlier this month in Jhansi. Investigators believe the accused, Ram Singh Parihar, wrapped her body in a tarpaulin before burning it inside a large blue trunk. Police said the remains were later collected in sacks and thrown into a river, leaving behind charred fragments inside the box.

The case surfaced after a loader driver, hired to transport the trunk, became suspicious late Saturday night. The driver, Jaysingh Pal, alerted the police after noticing the behaviour of the men moving the trunk and fearing something was wrong. When officers forced open the box at the accused’s second wife’s house, they reportedly found charred human remains and bone fragments.

Man walks into police station confessing to killing wife

A marriage against family wishes and growing mistrust end in tragedy

A quiet Saturday morning at Maharajpur police station in Kanpur was shattered when a visibly distraught young man walked in crying and made a chilling confession. “Sir, I have strangled my wife,” he told the officer on duty, adding that her body lay wrapped in a blanket at their home.
The man, identified as Sachin (22), was immediately taken into custody. Police accompanied him to the rented room where the body of his wife, Shweta, was found. The couple hailed from Mohanpur village in Fatehpur district and had married in court against their families’ wishes, choosing to build a life together on their own.

After their marriage, the two moved to Surat, where Sachin worked in a factory, before moving to Kanpur a month ago. Here, Sachin drove an auto-rickshaw to support the household. However, police said cracks had begun to appear in the relationship, fuelled by Sachin’s growing suspicions about his wife.

During questioning, Sachin claimed he doubted Shweta’s character, citing unexplained money deposits in her bank account and his unease about young men living nearby. On Friday night, he allegedly told her he would not return home, only to come back unexpectedly. What followed was a heated confrontation that drew police intervention and counselling.

Back home, the argument reportedly reignited, ending in a fatal act of rage. After the killing, Sachin wandered the city for hours, sitting alone near the Ghantaghar area, before deciding to surrender.
Shweta’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police say the investigation is ongoing.

The 15-year-old girl died on Saturday when the Bharati Academy English School in Velji was celebrating its sports day

The official said that the class X student Roshni Goswami, a resident of Umbargaon, stood third in the marathon.
Eyewitnesses said she started experiencing breathlessness after completing the race, following which she sat on the ground and then fainted," he informed.

"Teachers tried to administer initial treatment to Roshni. School staff rushed her in a private vehicle to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. We suspect she suffered a heart attack," Bharati Academy principal Rakesh Sharma said.

How Did Her Family Get To Know?

Her mother Sunitaben Goswami said Roshni started the day normally, waking up at her regular time, eating a proper meal and leaving for school with lunch packed in her tiffin box.
"She even touched my feet seeking blessings for her marathon race. In the afternoon, we got the devastating news of her demise," Sunitaben said.
A Gholwad police station official said an accidental death case has been registered. "Some police personnel were present at the event. They will be spoken to as part of the probe. We are awaiting the post-mortem report to know the exact cause of death," he added.

Education Activists React on Tragic Death of Teenage Girl

The incident, however, has evoked sharp reactions from some local education activists, who cited that such "high intensity" sporting events are often held in hot conditions without professional first aid, on-site doctors, or ambulances.

A woman doctor working at a government hospital in Maharashtra’s Satara district has died by suicide, leaving a note on her palm, accusing a police sub-inspector of rape and mental harassment, besides naming a techie.

The woman doctor has left behind a four-page suicide letter, in which she claimed that she was being pressured to issue fake fitness certificated of accused in police cases and was harassed when she refused, according to an NDTV report.
The report said that the woman doctor was being pressured by a member of Parliament and two of his personal assistants.

A relative of the doctor had claimed earlier in the day that she often faced pressure from police to change medical reports in cases of unnatural death, and also to modify reports when arrested persons were brought to the hospital for a medical test, according to news agency PTI.

The 28-year-old doctor, who hailed from Beed district and worked at the hospital in Phaltan tehsil, was found hanging in a hotel room at Phaltan late on Thursday night.
In the note written on her palm, the doctor alleged she had been raped and mentally harassed by the police sub-inspector and another person over the last five months.
She wrote that sub-inspector Gopal Badane raped and sexually harassed her on multiple occasions, while another man Prashant Bankar, a software engineer, mentally harassed her. The note read, "Badne raped me four times. He subjected me to rape, mental and physical abuse for more than five months."
Both have been booked under charges of rape and abetment of suicide, police said.
"The deceased booked a room in a hotel in Phaltan. However, she didn't respond when hotel staff knocked on the room's door and rang the bell. The staff grew suspicious and opened the door with an alternative key and found her hanging. We have formed two teams to trace the accused," Satara Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Doshi said.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to Satara Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Doshi and ordered the suspension of the sub-inspector named in the suicide note.

'White Drum Murder': Ragpicker Finds Severed Head, 5 Body Parts in Ludhiana; Chilling Details Emerge

Davinder was murdered and dismembered by his friend Shera and his wife in Ludhiana. CCTV caught the couple transporting body parts in a drum.

In a bone-chilling incident, ragpickers found a severed head inside a white-coloured drum at a vacant plot near Jalandhar Bypass in Ludhiana, Punjab. When police reached the spot, they discovered five other body parts scattered within a 500-metre radius of the drum. The body was later identified as that of a man from Bhora village, according to a media report.
During the investigation into the Ludhiana murder, police reviewed several CCTV footage clips and allegedly found the involvement of the victim’s friend and his wife in the murder. A case has been registered against the accused couple, and police said the motive behind the crime would become clear after their arrest, reported The Times of India.

What Happened?

Davinder, who was involved in digital printing work in Mumbai, arrived in Ludhiana on January 6 at around 2:15 pm. After reaching home, he informed his family that he was going to visit a friend in the same locality and left. When he did not return on time, the family grew concerned and began searching for him. Unable to locate him, they later filed a missing report at the Salem Tabri Police Station.

Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, ragpickers found the white drum that reportedly contained Davinder’s dismembered head. Police rushed to the spot and uncovered more shocking details of the crime.
“The man’s head was stuffed inside a white-coloured drum, while five other body parts—both arms, legs and parts of the abdomen—were found scattered separately within a distance of 500 metres. There were burn marks on the limbs, indicating that the accused may have tried to burn the body; however, the burn injuries were not deep,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP-I) Sameer Verma.

Had Gone to a Friend’s House, But…

Police confirmed that the victim had gone to the house of his friend, Shamsher Singh alias Shera, but never came out. They added that CCTV footage showed Shera and his wife, Kuldeep Kaur, stepping out of their house with a white drum, riding away on a bike.
"Footage of CCTV camera installed near Shera's house captured him and his wife taking the drum in which the head was found, on their bike. A murder case was registered against Shamsher Singh Shera and his wife Kuldeep Kaur. The motive behind the murder would be ascertained after the arrest of the accused," said the ADCP.

Davinder is survived by his wife and 7-month-old daughter.

Family Called Friend, Who Lied to Them

Davinder’s cousin Hemraj told The Times of India that the family believed Davinder had gone to meet his close friend Shera on the day he went missing. To find out more, they called Shera and asked if he had seen Davinder. Shera told them that Davinder had come to his house to borrow his bike, but he refused to lend it. According to Shera, Davinder stayed for a few minutes and then left. At first, the family trusted Shera’s version of events.
However, later they decided to verify his claims. When they went to Shera’s house, they found it locked. They then checked CCTV footage from cameras installed near the house. The footage showed Davinder entering Shera’s house around 2:45 pm, but he was never seen coming out.

Accused Couple Took Several Suspicious Bike Rides After Midnight

Hemraj further said that the CCTV footage showed something suspicious later that night. Around midnight, Shera and his wife were seen carrying a white drum out of the house. After a few minutes, they returned without the drum. After this, they were seen making two to three trips on a bike.
Speaking about the possible motive behind the crime, Hemraj said that Shera worked as a carpenter but was also allegedly involved in drug peddling. Davinder would sometimes consume drugs as well. Hemraj suggested that there could have been a dispute between them related to drugs or money. He added that the exact reason would become clear only after the police arrest the accused and complete their investigation.

Satara Doctor's Suicide Note Reveals Affair with Second Accused, Claims of MP’s Pressure to Fudge Reports

The suicide of a woman doctor in Satara has sparked alarm due to her letter indicating pressure from a Member of Parliament to provide fraudulent medical certificates for individuals in custody.

The death of a woman doctor in Satara has raised serious concerns after her four-page suicide letter revealed that she was pressured by a Member of Parliament and his aides to issue fake medical certificates for accused individuals in police custody. Investigations confirm that the doctor shared a close personal relationship with the second accused, Prashant Bankar, who is currently in police custody. The first accused, PSI Gopal Badane, surrendered to police yesterday and has been charged with rape. Preliminary probes indicate no foul play at the hotel where the incident occurred.

Suicide Letter Reveals Pressure from MP

The letter recounts an incident where she had refused to issue a certificate. Following her refusal, two assistants of the MP visited the hospital, dialled the politician, and made her speak to him. She claimed that the MP threatened her indirectly, although she did not name him in the letter.

No Foul Play at Hotel, Police Confirm

Police confirmed that the doctor had personally booked the hotel room after searching online for accommodation. Surveillance footage and witness statements show that no other individual entered or left the premises during the relevant period. Senior police sources added that the doctor maintained limited communication with her family and had required emotional support at various points in her life.

Relationship with Second Accused, Prashant Bankar

Digital forensics have recovered complete communication logs between the doctor and Prashant Bankar, the second accused, with no signs of tampering. Evidence indicates that the doctor shared several photographs and notes with him before her death, including an image of the hotel she booked and a note written on her palm. She also sent a photo of the noose she later used to commit suicide.

Police sources revealed that the doctor and Bankar were together shortly before her death. According to Bankar, the doctor had engaged in similar behaviour previously, as reflected in their chat history. Investigators continue to examine all evidence to piece together the timeline of events.
All communication between the doctor and Badane appears to have been deleted, allegedly by the doctor herself, and authorities are working to reconstruct the context and timeline of interactions leading up to her death.

A 19-year-old student in Dharamshala lost her life last month after continued ragging and assault by three female students and her professor. Her father alleged that his daughter was scared to go to college, as he recalled her saying, "The students would kill me", according to a TOI report. The father further claimed that the students beat and harassed his daughter during a ragging session.

The teenage girl, a student of Government Degree College in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, in her last video, alleged sexual assault by her professor named Ashok, saying that he used to "touch her inappropriately".
The girl died in a Ludhiana hospital on December 26. She was treated at seven hospitals, Kangra SP Ashoka Ratan said, adding that the authorities are verifying all the facts.

What Her Father Alleged?

The father of the Dharamshala girl alleged that the incident troubled her a lot. "She kept saying she did not want to go to college as the students would kill her,” he claimed in a complaint lodged with the Dharamshala police.

He further claimed that one of the girls even hit her with a bottle and cut her hair. “She kept saying she did not want to go to college as the students would kill her,” he said, adding that he had to enrol her in a private computer academy on September 20 to protect her, according to a TOI report.
Her father said that despite multiple medical interventions, her condition kept worsening.

What Did

In the video, the girl was seen lying on a hospital bed, speaking about the horrific incident. The girl recalled the professor's name, saying, "Ashok sir", and when asked what the professor would do, she alleged, "Ajeeb ajeeb harkate karte the. Peeche padh jaate the (He would do strange things, be after me)."
When asked for more details, the girl hesitated and said that he used to touch her (while pointing to her chest). Following the alleged incidents, the victim's health reportedly deteriorated due to fear and mental distress.

UGC

The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Saturday ordered a probe into the death of the Dharamshala student following allegations of ragging, according to officials. The UGC has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the incident.
"UGC has taken serious cognisance of the tragic death of a student at the Govt. Degree College, Dharamshala. The UGC Anti-Ragging Helpline registered a suo-motu complaint based on media reports alleging ragging leading to suicide, while the college authorities have stated that the case is a death and not a suicide," a senior UGC official said.
"A police inquiry is underway, and UGC has constituted a Fact-Finding Committee to examine the incident. The UGC assures that culprits will not be spared and that stringent action will be taken. Student safety is paramount," the official added.

Himachal Ragging Death Case: Assistant Professor Suspended; HP govt, UGC Order Separate Probes - The Case Explained

The Himachal Pradesh government has suspended an assistant professor from Government College, Dharamshala, amid allegations of sexual harassment and ragging following the death of a 19-year-old Dalit student.

The Himachal Pradesh government has suspended an assistant professor of Government College, Dharamshala following allegations of sexual harassment and ragging linked to the death of a 19-year-old Dalit student, a case that has triggered widespread concern over campus safety and accountability in higher education institutions, reports PTI.

The suspension comes days after the student died while undergoing treatment, and after police registered an FIR against the faculty member.

What is the case about?

The case centres on allegations that a first-year BA student of Government College, Dharamshala, was subjected to ragging, physical assault and sexual harassment by seniors and a college professor. The student was hospitalised after the alleged incidents and later died on December 26, 2025.

Her father has accused three senior students of beating her and alleged that a college professor indulged in obscene acts, harassment and intimidation. A video recorded by the student later surfaced, in which she accused the professor of indecent behaviour, mental harassment and threats after she protested against his conduct.

Why was the assistant professor suspended?

The Himachal Pradesh government suspended Assistant Professor (Geography) Ashok Kumar after an FIR for sexual harassment was registered against him. The suspension order, issued by Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, said the action was taken pending the outcome of a departmental inquiry.
The order noted that, based on reports in the print and electronic media, the professor’s prima facie involvement could not be ruled out and that disciplinary proceedings were required to ascertain the facts.
The professor has been placed under suspension with immediate effect under the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965. During the suspension period, his headquarters will be at the Directorate of Higher Education in Shimla, and he has been barred from leaving without official permission.

What steps has the government taken?

Apart from the suspension, the Directorate of Higher Education has constituted a four-member fact-finding committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
The committee is headed by Additional Director of Higher Education Harish Kumar and includes the principals of government colleges in Dhaliara, Baijnath and Naura. It has been asked to submit a comprehensive report within three days.

Officials said the inquiry would examine all angles of the case, including allegations of sexual harassment, sexual assault, ragging and caste-related remarks involving both teachers and students.
The assistant professor, who has obtained anticipatory bail, has denied all allegations. Speaking to reporters, he described the charges as baseless and said he would cooperate fully with the police investigation.
Police said a case has been registered under sections 75 (sexual harassment), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institution (Prohibition of) Ragging Act, 2009.

In-laws Held Him as Wife Strangled Husband: How Nine Years of Love in Bareilly Ended Over Rs 20,000 Gamble

Two months after their wedding, a Bareilly man was allegedly strangled by his wife with help from her family, who then staged the murder as a suicide, police said.

Two months after a wedding in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, that capped a nine-year love story, 33-year-old Jitendra Kumar Yadav tragically died.

Initially reported as a suicide, a post-mortem revealed that "strangulation" was the cause of death. Police as per a report by PTI allege that Jitendra was strangled by his wife, Jyoti, while her father, mother, and brother held him down. The body was then suspended from a window grill with a muffler to stage a suicide. Three of the accused have been arrested, while Jyoti’s brother is still at large.
Jyoti and Jitendra had married on November 25 last year, after a nine-year relationship that began during their student days. Police said the marriage was conducted according to Hindu customs with the consent of both families.

Dispute Over Money

Jitendra, a contract employee at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), married Jyoti, a contract bus conductor with the Uttar Pradesh Road Transport Corporation on November 25 last year, after a nine-year relationship that began during their student days. Police said the marriage was conducted according to Hindu customs with the consent of both families.

However, according to police, the relationship soured within weeks over financial issues.
Jitendra, a native of Bhaupora in Etawah district, allegedly withdrew Rs 20,000 from Jyoti's bank account and lost it in online gambling. This led to repeated arguments. On January 26, when Jyoti confronted her husband about the missing money, the argument escalated into a physical fight. Jyoti then called her parents and brother to the rented house in Girja Shankar Colony, Izzatnagar, where the couple lived.
Police say Jyoti's father Kalicharan, mother Chameli, and brother Deepak restrained Jitendra while Jyoti strangled him. The family allegedly staged the scene to make it appear as suicide.

'In a Fit of Rage'

Jitendra's brother Ajay Kumar filed a complaint, against Jyoti and three others for abetment to suicide, prompting the post-mortem and investigation.
"The postmortem report confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation," the CO told PTI, adding that the accused were subsequently charged with murder.
Jyoti confessed to the crime, stating that disputes over financial issues had deepened bitterness. Police allege, "during the fight that followed, her parents and brother restrained Jitendra, allowing her to strangle him 'in a fit of rage'. After his death, the family allegedly worked together to stage the scene as a suicide by hanging."

A 65-year-old woman was allegedly raped and murdered by her domestic help at her Bengaluru home, with the accused later dying by suicide, police said.

A gruesome crime has shocked residents of KAS Colony in Bengaluru’s BTM Layout II Stage, where a 65-year-old woman was allegedly raped and murdered by her domestic help inside her home. Police said the accused later died by suicide in the same room.

The incident, which as per a report by Times of India, took place around midnight on Saturday at the woman’s two-storey residence, came to light early Sunday morning.

What happened inside the house

The victim was a homemaker and the wife of a private finance firm employee. The accused, Devaraju, 45, was a resident of Bommasandra and a native of Hosur in Tamil Nadu, the TOI report stated. He had been working for the family for nearly 10 years.

According to police, the family originally hails from Mangaluru and includes the couple’s only daughter, 26, who works for a private firm. Devaraju handled household cleaning, washing the car, caring for the family dog, and buying vegetables and groceries.

Initially staying in a PG accommodation, Devaraju was later allowed to live in the house after the family developed trust in him. He slept in the hall on the ground floor, while the couple occupied their bedroom on the same floor. The daughter slept on the first floor.
The woman’s husband returned from Dubai around 4.30am on Sunday. When there was no response after knocking for nearly three minutes, he called his daughter, who opened the door and went back upstairs.

3-Year-Old Surat Boy 'Kidnapped' by Cousin Found Murdered in Train Washroom Dustbin at Mumbai’s LTT

A three-year-old boy kidnapped from Surat was found murdered in the lavatory of a train at Mumbai’s LTT, with his cousin emerging as the prime suspect. Police are probing how the child’s body ended up in the Kushinagar Express as search for the accused continues.

Mumbai:/Surat In a shocking incident, a three-year-old boy from Surat was found murdered inside the lavatory of the Kushinagar Express at Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) early on Saturday. The child had been missing since 21 August. Police have launched a manhunt for his cousin, 26-year-old Vikas Kumar Shah, who has been named as the prime suspect.
The Kushinagar Express had arrived at LTT shortly after midnight when conservancy workers began cleaning its coaches and washrooms, as per a TOI report. Around 1 am, one of the workers stumbled upon the body of a young child hidden inside a dustbin in the lavatory. The worker immediately alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP).
Forensic teams were rushed to the spot, and the child’s body was sent for autopsy. The post-mortem revealed that the boy’s throat had been slit. His photographs were circulated to police stations across the city to help establish his identity.

What Happened?

Hours later, Gujarat’s Amroli police contacted the GRP, confirming that the boy had been reported missing from their jurisdiction. According to the FIR lodged in Surat, the child lived with his mother, Durgavati, and two older siblings. His father works as a labourer in the Middle East, while his mother earns a living as a housekeeper.

A week before the crime, Durgavati’s sister, Rabdi, had arrived from Bihar along with her son Vikas and daughter to visit the family. On August 21, Durgavati left her son at home with Rabdi while she took her older children to school. She told police that Vikas initially accompanied her but turned back midway. When she returned, her son was missing.
In her statement, Durgavati said that Rabdi had told her Vikas had taken the boy out to play. But when neither of them returned, she raised an alarm and filed a complaint with the Amroli police.
Investigators found that Vikas and the 3-year-old were last seen at Surat railway station. CCTV footage showed the two roaming around the premises after reportedly taking a lift from a motorcyclist. Police believe they later reached Dadar and moved towards Thane, though the exact location of the murder remains unclear.
Authorities are now investigating how the boy’s body ended up in the Kushinagar Express. GRP officials will question train passengers and attendants from the coach where the body was discovered to piece together the sequence of events.
The motive behind the brutal killing is yet to be established. Vikas’s family has told police that he was unemployed, but no clear explanation has emerged for why he allegedly targeted his young cousin.

Chasing Sarpanch Post, Maharashtra Man Kills One of Twin Daughters Over Two-Child Policy Rule

A Maharashtra man allegedly killed his six-year-old daughter and dumped her body in a canal to bypass the two-child rule and contest village panchayat elections.

To the outside world, Pandurang Kondmangale, 28, appeared to be a devoted father to his three children, a three-year-old boy and six-year-old twin girls. A resident of Kerur village in Maharashtra’s Nanded district, he as per reports ran a barbershop called Viraat Saloon and lived an unremarkable life.

That image of Kondmangale shattered after police alleged that he murdered one of his twin daughters, Prachi, to overcome an election rule that was stopping him from contesting panchayat elections.
It all began, when Maharashtra began preparation for village elections scheduled in June, Kondmangale as per a report by Indian Express, grew keen on becoming the sarpanch of his village. However, the Maharashtra Panchayat Raj Act bars any candidate with more than two children from contesting rural local body polls.

A Plot to Bypass Election Rule

According to police, Kondmangale approached the sitting sarpanch of the village, Ganesh Shinde, for advice. “The two were friends, and they allegedly decided to get rid of one of his children, Prachi, the elder of the twins,” Sau Chaitanya, the Nizamabad Commissioner of Police was quoted as saying by Express.

The men first discussed putting the child up for adoption, but abandoned the idea as she would remain listed on official records. “He then thought of abandoning the child. But what if she came back to the village?” Chaitanya said. “The two then allegedly conspired to kill the child and make it seem like an accident.”

Crime and arrest

Police said Kondmangale took Prachi on a motorcycle to Telangana’s Nizamsagar Canal in neighbouring Nizamabad district. “No one suspected anything because crossing the border is common,” Chaitanya said as per the Express report.
“He allegedly pushed the girl into the water and fled the scene,” the officer added. Farmers working in fields nearby heard the splash and immediately rushed to the canal, where they found the girl’s body floating. The police recovered the body quickly, allowing them to circulate photographs.
“The pictures were circulated widely on social media, WhatsApp and newspapers,” Chaitanya said. A villager from Maharashtra recognised the child and alerted Telangana police.
When questioned, Kondmangale initially claimed his daughter was receiving treatment elsewhere but later confessed. “When pushed to a corner, he revealed that he had killed the child,” Chaitanya said.
Kondmangale has been booked for murder and criminal conspiracy, while the sarpanch has been named a co-conspirator.

A late-night argument in Delhi escalated tragically when 36-year-old Shivam Gupta was fatally injured after being attacked with a helmet by food delivery partners.

Delhi: A late-night argument in the heart of Delhi turned deadly for a 36-year-old man who died days after being beaten with a helmet by food delivery partners in Connaught Place.

The victim, Shivam Gupta, an only child, succumbed to his injuries on January 19 after battling for life for more than 15 days in hospital. His death has left his family shattered and seeking justice.
A resident of east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar, Shivam had gone to Connaught Place with a friend on the night of January 2 to attend a party. According to police, an altercation later broke out near E-Block, close to Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, between Shivam and a group of food delivery partners.

During the argument, Shivam was allegedly attacked by around three men, who repeatedly struck him on the head with a helmet.

Found Unconscious, Rushed to Hospital
Police said they received a PCR call around 1.30 am on January 3 about an injured man lying unconscious and bleeding on the road. Shivam was rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where doctors found multiple hematomas, or pools of clotted blood, in his head.
Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was declared unfit to give a statement.
Shivam’s father, Anil Kant Gupta, said his son had left home on the evening of January 2 but never returned.

"I kept calling him, but there was no answer. After some time, I got a call from police saying that my son was admitted in hospital," the grieving father recalled.
He said the injuries were severe and appeared targeted.
"When we reached the hospital, his condition was alarming. He was vomiting blood and not responding. We requested the doctors to refer him to another hospital for better treatment," the father said.
Surgery, Brief Hope, Then Tragedy
Doctors later advised immediate transfer for specialised care. Shivam was shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on January 4 and underwent surgery on January 5.
"The doctors clearly told us that the injuries were life-threatening and an immediate operation was necessary. After the procedure, we were informed that the next 36 to 72 hours would be crucial for recovery.
"For a while, he showed signs of improvement. He was responding to the doctors when they called out to him. We had hope," the father said. "But, he left us on January 19."
The 61-year-old said Shivam was his only child and the sole support of the family. He runs two shops in the Paharganj area.

Police Investigation Underway
Police inspected the spot near the parking area in Connaught Place and carried out videography and photography. Blood-stained material was seized and sent for forensic examination. CCTV footage from nearby cameras was also checked as part of the investigation.
Police sources said an FIR was initially registered under Section 110 (culpable homicide) and Section 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Additional sections may be added as the investigation progresses.
Two men have been apprehended so far, and police said further investigation is ongoing to determine the roles of all those involved.
A family member said, "He went to attend a party, but never came back. A helmet was used as a weapon, and it took his life. We want strict action so that no other family has to go through this pain."

Shamli Triple Murder: Why National Security Act is Invoked Against Father Who Killed Wife and Minor Daughters

Shamli man Farukh booked under National Security Act for allegedly killing wife and two daughters in Ghari Daulat village

What started as a triple murder that shook Shamli has now turned into a case where the district administration has invoked the stringent National Security Act against Farukh, 45, the father accused of killing his wife and two minor daughters in Ghari Daulat village. Authorities said the NSA is being applied to prevent him from acting in a manner prejudicial to public order while the investigation continues.

Farukh was arrested on December 17 last year after police discovered the bodies buried inside the house. Shamli Superintendent of Police N P Singh told reporters that the NSA was added against him on Saturday (Janury 31). The Act, enacted in 1980, allows authorities to detain individuals without formal charges for up to a year to prevent them from acting in a manner prejudicial to public order.

Kills then Buries

According to police, Farukh allegedly shot dead his wife, Tahira, and one of his daughters, Afreen, 14, and later strangled the other daughter, Sahreen, 7, following a family dispute on December 17, last year. He then buried the bodies inside the house to destroy evidence.

A complaint in the matter was lodged by Tahira's father, Ameer Ahmad, accusing Farukh of murdering his daughter and granddaughters.

Following his arrest, police recovered the bodies, authorities said, adding that the accused is lodged in jail. A sessions court has also rejected Farukh's bail plea, officials said.
Police further added that legal formalities related to the NSA are being completed. The case has shocked the local community, and authorities have stepped up surveillance to prevent any public unrest.
"This is a heinous crime, and we are taking all necessary steps under the law," an official said as quoted by PTI.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have assured that they are following all procedural requirements under both the Indian Penal Code and the National Security Act to ensure the accused faces appropriate legal consequences.

According to the complaint, Ningaraja was reportedly angry with his father, T Sannalingappa, for arranging his marriage twice without consulting him. Maruti alleged that Ningaraja blamed his father for the situation and often quarrelled with him over the issue.

The family tensions were not new. Maruti told police that their father frequently scolded Ningaraja for what he described as a lack of interest in farming and urged him to work harder in the fields. These disagreements reportedly led to frequent arguments between the two.

Attack While Victim Was Asleep

On Wednesday night, the situation escalated during dinner when Ningaraja allegedly quarrelled with his father and threatened to kill him. Around midnight, Maruti received a phone call from a relative informing him that Ningaraja had attacked their father with an iron rod while he was asleep.
The blow reportedly struck Sannalingappa on the head, causing severe injuries. He was immediately rushed to Hosadurga hospital for treatment.
Doctors at the hospital declared Sannalingappa brought dead, police said. Following this, Maruti approached the police and lodged a formal complaint against his brother.
Based on the complaint, police registered a murder case and arrested Ningaraja. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events and gather additional evidence.

'10 Months Later': Kanpur Mother Left Kids For Lover, Stopped Answering Calls - What Police Found Next Will Shock You

A midnight police dig in Kanpur’s Tikwapur village uncovered the skeleton of a woman allegedly murdered and buried by her lover ten months ago, after her son reported her missing.

While Kanpur slept, a police search unfolded under the cover of darkness in Tikwapur village, a tense midnight operation lit by flashing headlights and mobile torches. As earth was dug up near a village tower, officers struck bone, not soil. Seven feet below the ground lay a skeleton, buried for nearly ten months, exposing a chilling tale of a forbidden relationship, a calculated murder, and a son’s search for his missing mother.
The remains belong to Reshma, a 45-year-old mother of seven who had been missing for nearly ten months. Police as per a report NDTV, said that she was allegedly murdered by her lover, Gorelal, who has now been arrested. Suspicion arose after Reshma’s son Babloo filed a missing person’s complaint on December 29, following evasive and unsettling responses from Gorelal about her whereabouts.

A Son’s Suspicion, A Lover’s Secret

Reshma’s husband, Rambabu Sankhwar, died three years ago. After his death, she entered into a relationship with Gorelal, her neighbour, and eventually moved in with him, leaving her children behind. Hurt by her decision, the children severed contact with her, police said as per the report.

The case took a turn when Babloo sent Reshma an invitation to a family wedding on November 29. She did not attend, prompting him to visit Gorelal’s house. When he asked about his mother, Gorelal allegedly told him, “Your mother will never return.” Initially brushed off as a joke, the remark became deeply suspicious as Gorelal continued to avoid direct answers.

After being taken into custody, Gorelal allegedly confessed during interrogation. He told police that frequent arguments had broken out between him and Reshma in April last year after he asked her to leave. When she refused, the disputes escalated, and during one such quarrel, he allegedly strangled her to death. He then kept the body at home for two days before deciding to bury it in a secluded part of the village.
Confirming the recovery, Deputy Commissioner of Police Deependra Nath Chudhary told NDTV that Gorelal admitted to the crime during questioning. “We recovered the skeleton from the location disclosed by the accused. Relatives identified it based on jewellery and clothing. The remains have been sent for postmortem and DNA examination,” he said.
Police said further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and determine whether others were involved in the crime.

Meerut Horror: She Stepped In to Save Her Daughter - Dalit Woman Killed, Girl Still Missing

A Dalit woman was brutally killed in Meerut while trying to save her daughter from alleged abductors, who fled with the girl, triggering political outrage and a massive police manhunt.

The sun had barely risen over Meerut’s Kapsad village on Thursday when violence tore through the quiet fields. Sunita Jatav, a 50-year-old Dalit woman, was walking with her 20-year-old daughter when two men intercepted them. What followed was a brutal sequence of events that ended with a mother dead, a daughter abducted, and a village gripped by fear, anger, and grief.
According to police, the two accused - Paras Som (23) and Sunil Kumar (25), both residents of the same village, allegedly tried to abduct the young woman. When Sunita realised what was unfolding, she did not run. She stepped forward.
Paras allegedly attacked the mother with a sugarcane sickle when she intervened. The blow to her head was savage. Even as she collapsed, injured and bleeding, the men fled the scene not alone, but with her daughter.

Villagers as per a report by Times of India, alerted the family, following which the injured woman was rushed to hospital. She later succumbed to her injuries during treatment. A videographed postmortem was conducted before the body was handed over to the family.

Before her condition worsened, Sunita gave a chilling statement to the authorities, recounting her final moments of resistance.
“Paras misbehaved with my daughter. When I protested, he started beating and abusing me. He hit my head with a sharp instrument,” she said.
Police have registered an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for murder and abduction, along with provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused remain absconding.
Meerut SSP Vipin Tada said multiple teams are hunting for them. “An FIR has been filed against two persons under BNS sections for murder and abduction, along with relevant provisions of the SC/ST Act. Based on the clues, teams have also been sent to Haryana and Delhi,” he said.
Meerut Zone ADG Bhanu Bhaskar told TOI,
“We have assured the family that every possible measure is being taken to recover their daughter and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
Grief simmered into protest as the body returned to Kapsad. The family initially refused to perform the last rites, demanding immediate arrests, strict action against alleged illegal constructions by the accused, and the safe recovery of the missing daughter. Heavy police deployment followed, with senior officials camping in the village through hours of tense negotiations.
District Magistrate VK Singh announced compensation and security measures.
“A total of Rs 10 lakh has been given to the family from the CM relief fund, and they will receive an additional Rs 12 lakh by the time the chargesheet is filed in court,” he said. He added that the administration was also considering providing an arms licence to the family due to security concerns.

More than ten police teams are now working across districts.
“More than ten police teams are working across districts to apprehend the accused and ensure the girl's safe recovery. Both hail from the same village. We are acting swiftly on all leads,” SSP Tada said.
The crime has triggered sharp political reactions. BSP chief Mayawati wrote on X, “Govt must take these incidents of violation of women’s dignity and subsequent murder with utmost seriousness and take immediate and strict action against the culprits to prevent criminal elements from committing such heinous acts in the future.”
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said, “…BJP govt reached a point of no return in its patronage of criminals... There can be nothing worse than a situation where people lose all hope in their govt.”
As night fell on Kapsad, Sunita Jatav was cremated under police watch. Her daughter is still missing.

Man asked her name, then shot her: Delhi RWA chief killed, was key witness in husband's 2023 murder

Initial probe has revealed that the victim was shot dead while she was returning after meeting a neighbour.

In a chilling murder, a 44-year-old woman was shot dead in Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh area on Saturday. The victim, identified as Rachna Yadav, was shot in the head at point-blank range and died on the spot, news agency PTI reported citing police. According to police, Rachna's murder might be linked to the killing of her husband in 2023, who was also shot dead.

Vijendra Yadav’s murder is still under trial, and Rachna was the main witness in the case.

Rachna was the president of her locality’s resident welfare association (RWA). She originally hailed from Delhi’s Bhalswa village.

Link to her husband’ murder in 2023

In the 2023 case, Vijendra Yadav was allegedly murdered due to previous enmity. "Bharat Yadav and five others were named as accused. While five of the accused were arrested and are facing trial, the main accused, Bharat Yadav, is still absconding and has been declared a proclaimed offender," a senior police officer told news agency PTI.
According to investigators, Rachna’s murder might have been committed to weaken her husband’s murder case and intimidate other witnesses, particularly since her testimony was crucial for the prosecution, the report said.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh said, "We are re-examining all aspects of the 2023 case and the role of the proclaimed offender (Bharat).”

He also said that several teams have been formed to trace and nab the accused.

Shot dead on the road after asking name

Initial probe has revealed that the victim was shot dead while she was returning after meeting a neighbour.

On the way, she was approached by two men, one of whom asked for her name, following which the attacker fired at her and fled the spot with his accomplice, said police.

The police received a call about the incident at 10.59 am at Shalimar Bagh police station and reached the spot, where they found the woman lying in a pool of blood on the road. The police recovered an empty cartridge from the crime scene.

What victim's daughter said

The victim’s eldest daughter, Kanika Yadav, alleged that the murder was committed by Bharat Yadav, the main accused in her father’s murder case, because she was a prime witness in the case.
"Some of the accused in my father's murder case are lodged in Tihar Jail. Despite that, they are planning such crimes. Bharat Yadav planned and executed my mother's murder," PTI quoted Kanika as saying.

"They were afraid that they would be convicted on the basis of her statement. That is why my mother was killed. My father was murdered in 2023, and the case is still pending before the court," she added.

Noida’s Hidden Death Trap Existed For Years? What Google Satellite Images Exposed After Techie’s Death

Days after the Noida techie died after his car plunged into a water-filled pit, satellite images revealed that the water body existed since 2021. Locals allege repeated accidents at the spot due to missing barricades and warning signs, pointing to official negligence.

Days after the tragic death of a software engineer in Noida, who fell into a water-filled ditch, a new development has emerged. Satellite images on Google Earth show that a large water body began appearing from late 2021 at the Sector 150 plot, where the 27-year-old techie drowned after a car accident.
Returning home from Gurugram, 27-year-old Yuvraj Mehta met with the accident around 12.15 am on January 17 when his car broke through a roadside drain and fell into the deep, waterlogged pit on Plot A-3 of Sports City's Plot No. 2.

Negligence by Authorities to Install Barricades

A few days earlier, a truck had also crashed at the same location, though the driver survived, according to locals who alleged negligence by local authorities in failing to install barricades and warning signage at the spot.

Gurvinder Singh, the truck driver injured in the earlier incident, said the accident occurred on the night of January 2 amid dense fog, and he remained trapped at the site for nearly four hours before being rescued.

Asked whether proper barricading and signage could have prevented his accident as well as the crash that claimed Mehta's life, Singh said barricades at the T-point, where vehicles turn right, could have averted the incidents.

Water-Filled Pit Seen in Satellite Images Since 2021

A review of Google Earth images from April 2009 to March 2025, as seen by PTI, shows the land was under agriculture until at least 2015, with crop patterns and irrigation lines clearly visible. No large water body appears in satellite imagery until November 2021.
In 2016-17, following approval of the Sports City project, vegetation was cleared and the land use began to change.
According to Noida Authority officials, the accident site is Plot A-3, carved out after the subdivision of Sports City Plot No. 2 by the lead developer, Lotus Green. The 27,185-square-metre plot, designated for commercial use, was subsequently taken over by MZ Wiztown Planners in 2021.
A commercial building plan was initially sanctioned. However, approval for a revised, mall-like structure was later sought by MZ Wiztown.
The authority rejected the proposal in May 2022, saying that only shops related to sports activities and food and beverage outlets were permissible under the approved layout, according to official documents.

After the rejection, construction at the site was halted. Despite the plot's prime corner location, with wide roads on two sides, the excavated basement was left open and unbarricaded.
Satellite images from November 2021, following that year's monsoon, for the first time show a large water body emerging at the site. In subsequent years, images show stagnant dark water, algae growth and partially submerged construction material, indicating prolonged abandonment.
The most recent Google Earth image from March 2025 shows the pit still intact, filled with water and surrounded by overgrowth, while the adjoining roads appear fully developed.

What Locals And Yuvraj's Father Said?

According to locals, the uncovered pit, fed by rainwater and drains and lying just off a well-developed road with no barricades and an almost 90-degree turn, had become a serious hazard long before the crash that claimed Mehta's life.
"There was no barricading or reflective signage around the plot, which led to the accident. It shows gross negligence on the part of the planners and developers," Raj Kumar Gupta, the techie's father, had said earlier, demanding accountability and action to ensure "nobody else loses their son like this".
On Tuesday, police arrested Abhay Kumar, director of MZ Wiztown, one of the two accused developers, following a complaint by the deceased engineer's father, officials said.
The FIR has been lodged under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 106 (causing death by negligence) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), along with other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Noida Techie’s Death: How Two Viral Videos by Key Witness Told Two Different Stories

Noida techie Yuvraj Mehta’s death in a waterlogged pit exposes ignored safety warnings, alleged police pressure on a witness and deep civic lapses.

The death of a 27-year-old techie in Noida last week, has spiralled far beyond a tragic road accident, peeling back layers of alleged official negligence, ignored warnings and a disturbing claim of pressure on a key eyewitness. What began as a foggy night mishap has now turned into a case that raises uncomfortable questions about urban safety, accountability and the handling of witnesses.
In the early hours of January 17, Yuvraj Mehta was driving back from Gurugram to his home when dense fog reduced visibility on the roads of Sector 150. His car skidded, smashed through a drain boundary and plunged into a deep, water filled pit dug for the basement of an under construction commercial complex. The excavation lay dangerously close to a public road, unguarded and filled with stagnant water.

According to police, Mehta managed to climb onto the roof of his submerged Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and called his father, who rushed to the scene and alerted emergency services. Rescue teams from the police, fire department, SDRF and NDRF arrived, but the operation stretched on for hours amid darkness and fog. By the time the rescue was done, Yuvraj died.

A witness, two videos and a troubling allegation

The case took a dramatic turn after two videos featuring a man identifying himself as Moninder Singh, the 26-year-old delivery executive, who is a key witness to techie's death apart from his father went viral. In the clips soon after the accident, Singh talking to media alleged shocking inaction by police and rescue teams. He claimed they avoided entering the water, citing cold temperatures and other constraints.
However, days later, another video surfaced in which Singh appeared to retract his statement, saying police reached the site within 15 minutes and tried but failed to save Yuvraj because of dense fog.

(In the Noida techie car crash case, the eyewitness, a Flipkart delivery boy has now changed his statement, saying all govt officials and rescue departments did their job properly. In his earlier video, the story was very different.Seems he forgot one thing back then that he wasn’t dealing with ordinary people, but with some of the most powerful and deeply entrenched systems. Now the statement changes. This won’t help him.But it definitely looks like damage control. The truth doesn’t change just because the version does.)

But adding more to the twist, Singh has since alleged that the second video was not voluntary.
“I was called to the police station and they forcefully recorded another video of me after giving me a script,” Moninder Singh told HT on Tuesday, adding, “I was forced to sit in a park close to the police station for more than four-and-a-half hours.”
He further said, “When I went there, three to four officers took me to a nearby park close to Knowledge Park police station and scolded me for speaking to the media.. I was directed to give statements in favour of the police, saying that cops were inside the water and did all possible efforts to rescue Yuvraj Mehta.”

They also verbally gave me a script and recorded a video. As I was scared, I said ‘okay’ and agreed to follow the directions, but I decided that I am the only eyewitness in the case and I will stand with the truth. My family and locals are supporting me,” Singh said.

Warnings ignored, a pit left to kill

Parallel revelations suggest the tragedy was waiting to happen. Satellite images reviewed by PTI show a large water body forming at the site as early as November 2021. The pit remained submerged and unsecured for more than three years, even as surrounding roads and infrastructure developed.
More damning is a UP Irrigation Department letter to the Noida Authority flagging the need to construct head regulators to flush out accumulated rain and drain water in Sector 150. The project was never taken up. Locals say the mishap could have been avoided if the warnings had been acted upon.
As protests mount, builders have been booked, an official has been sacked, a SIT has been formed and arrests have begun. But for many, the unanswered question remains whether Yuvraj Mehta’s death was a freak accident or the inevitable result of systemic neglect that had been documented, ignored and allowed to fester in plain sight.

Noida Techie's Car Pulled From Water-Filled Pit 3 Days After Tragedy - Crucial Leads May Surface

The car of the Noida techie Yuvraj Mehta who died after his vehicle fell into a water-filled construction pit in Sector 150 was recovered on Tuesday. The vehicle may unearth more insight into what might have happened to the software engineer.

Noida: The car of the Noida techie Yuvraj Mehta who died after his vehicle fell into a water-filled construction pit in Greater Noida Sector 150 was recovered on Tuesday. The vehicle may unearth more insight into what might have happened to the software engineer. The vehicle was retrieved by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) three days after the techie died when his vehicle fell into the pit on the intervening night of January 16-17.

What Happened on Intervening Night of January 16-17

Software engineer Yuvraj Mehta died after his car skidded in dense fog, broke a drain boundary and fell into a deep, waterlogged pit dug for the basement of an under-construction commercial complex.

According to eyewitnesses, he had frantically pleaded for help for two hours, but the police personnel and rescue workers who had reached the site were unable to save him.

His body was recovered on Saturday after a prolonged search operation involving the fire department, police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

The NDRF team used boats and divers to locate his car in the water and it was finally pulled out Tuesday evening, three days after the incident.

SIT Probing Noida Techie Case

Beginning its probe, the Special Investigation Team headed by Additional Director General (ADG), Meerut Zone, Bhanu Bhaskar, visited the accident site on Tuesday and held meetings with officials at the Noida Authority to examine the circumstances leading to the incident.
The three-member SIT comprises ADG Bhanu Bhaskar, Meerut Divisional Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami and Public Works Department Chief Engineer Ajay Verma, and it has been asked to submit its report within five days.
"We have been given five days to examine all aspects and provide an answer within that time frame, determining whose fault it was or what more we could have done to prevent this accident," Bhaskar told reporters after the meeting.
"We need to examine the civic authority, police and emergency authority and will give our opinion within five days. After follow-up meetings, we will submit our opinion to the government," he added, noting that the SIT would also speak to the victim's father.
Noida District Magistrate Medha Roopam, who accompanied the SIT, evaded mediapersons as they attempted to ask her questions.

UP Govt Takes Action Against Noida Officials After Techie's Death

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had on Monday evening ordered the constitution of the SIT, amid public outrage and allegations of negligence by officials and developers.
The government also removed senior IAS officer Lokesh M as the CEO of Noida Authority, placing him on the "waitlist".
The FIR was lodged under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 106 (causing death by negligence) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police said.
Investigations are continuing, they added.

Had Experts Dived in, Yuvraj Could Have been Alive, Says Family

The incident has sparked allegations of negligence, inadequate safety arrangements and delays in rescue efforts, with the victim's father saying he had reached the spot along with police, and other rescue personnel were also there, but could not save him.
"If expert divers could have gone in, then maybe my son would have been saved. Yuvraj kept crying for help as the car drowned," the victim's father had told reporters.

While no suicide note was recovered from the scene, officials stated that preliminary investigations do not suggest any foul play.
The incident took place in the Gautampuri area of Badarpur. Local police received a distress call at approximately 9:00 AM on Sunday. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the man locked inside a room. After forcing the door open, they discovered him hanging from a ceiling fan.

Delhi Crime ‘New Year’ Edition: Blood, Stabbings, and a Burnt Body Shock City

Delhi News: On New Year’s Eve in Delhi, tailor Bihari Lal was stabbed by juveniles after confronting them over noise. Police arrested one suspect, seized the weapon, and continue hunting the others.

Delhi Crime: New Year’s Eve turned deadly in Delhi, with three stabbings and a partially burnt body marking the start of 2026. Bihari Lal, 50, was stabbed by a group of juveniles in northwest Delhi’s Lal Bagh area after he asked them to stop shouting and playing loud music. Lal, a tailor, had just returned home from work in Shastri Nagar when he confronted the noisy group, according to media reports. A police officer said the argument turned violent, and one of the juveniles stabbed him while another kicked him multiple times.

Bihari Lal was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police arrested one juvenile and seized the weapon used in the attack. They are searching for the others involved. An FIR was registered at Adarsh Nagar Police Station, and investigators are checking eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage.
Neighbours and Lal’s family said the group was already notorious for disturbing the area, reported The Times of India.

"He had just returned from duty and was parking his cycle when they came and started abusing everyone, throwing buckets, boxes and people's belongings. Bihari Lal only told them not to use abusive language and shout, as there were women and children around. That was all he said," Dimple, a neighbour, recounted.

Pushpa, a relative, alleged that the group had been terrorising residents for some time. "They keep throwing bottles, stones and sticks, and nobody does anything. We complained earlier, but no action was taken. The police never did anything," she said. Pushpa said four boys were involved in the attack and "they stabbed him three times."
Hours later, in outer Delhi's Mangolpuri, an e-rickshaw driver, Vikas, was stabbed in a fight. According to police, Vikas and his friend Sandeep, a daily-wage labourer, both aged 20, were sitting together when a group of youths started a fight with them.
"During the altercation, one of the accused stabbed Vikas, causing fatal injuries. Sandeep also suffered a minor lacerated wound," an officer said. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, where Vikas was declared dead. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims and the attackers had bad blood. All six accused, four of them underage, involved in the stabbing were apprehended, police said. The same evening, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death in nearby Sultanpuri.
Around 11.30 pm, police were informed that a group of men had attacked a minor with a knife. "A police team rushed to the spot and found the injured boy lying on the road with multiple stab wounds," an officer said. The victim, whose identity was not revealed by the police, was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead. Vikram, a man aged about 30 with a history of crime, was arrested for allegedly killing the boy.

During interrogation, Vikram, who police said has six criminal convictions, revealed that two more men were with him at the time of the stabbing. A search for them has been launched.
The boy's mother said her son had been threatened several times before by the attackers, but police took no action. She said her son was out to buy juice when a few people started abusing him, and a fight broke out. "I ran downstairs from my sister's house and begged them not to harm my son. Instead, they took out a knife and attacked me. I somehow ran into a shop, where I saw my son being stabbed in front of my eyes," the boy's mother, Bali, said.
She said that the accused had earlier also entered her house armed with weapons. "I informed the police, but no action was taken." The boy was her only son. The motive of the killing is yet to be ascertained by the police.

The discovery of a partially burnt body of a 38-year-old property dealer behind a field in outernorth Delhi's Narela left the police clueless. The body, oozing blood from the head, was spotted on Thursday near a farmhouse on Lampur Road.
"A police team rushed to the spot and found the body of a man inside a fenced structure located within agricultural land," an officer said on Friday. During a search of the spot, police found Rs 500 banknotes in a container and a mobile phone that belonged to the victim, who was identified as Bhupender alias Binu, a resident of Haryana's Sonipat district, the officer said.
Bhupender was a realtor and ran his business under the name Daksh Property with his brother.

Bagalkot city municipal corporation commissioner R Vasanna said that the child died due to severe facial injuries despite being given advanced treatment. Doctors who attended her, requesting anonymity, said she was provided the best possible medicines and medical care, but could not be saved as she had sustained serious wounds to her face, especially the mouth and eyes, which made her unresponsive to treatment.

The victim, identified as Alaina Lokapur, was attacked by a stray dog in Sector No. 15 of Navanagar, Bagalkot. She was initially admitted to the Bagalkot District Hospital and was later shifted to KIMS, Hubballi, for advanced treatment, officials said. Despite sustained efforts by doctors, she passed away.

Commissioner Vasanna said the family of the deceased girl would be compensated with ₹5 lakh, expressing grief over the loss. He assured that efforts would be made to ensure no such incident is repeated, so that parents do not lose their children due to the negligence of civic authorities. “We lost the child despite providing good and advanced treatment at the Hubballi hospital. Unfortunately, we could not save her,” Vasanna said.

He said the local elected body had taken essential steps to control and eradicate the stray dog menace, which were further intensified following the intervention of the Supreme Court. He said rehabilitation centres had been established in parts of the district, where nearly 1,000 stray dogs have been sterilised and relocated as per court orders.

Chief of the elected council Savita Lenkennavar described the incident as a black mark on the Bagalkot Town Municipal Corporation. “Even after the Supreme Court’s directions and alerts from the district administration, and despite starting a stray dog eradication drive, we unfortunately lost our girl,” she said.

4 booked for incorrect death record, official suspended in Karnataka

A village accountant in Belagavi was suspended after falsely registering a living farmer as dead, leading to wrongful issuance of a death certificate.

The Belagavi deputy commissioner on Wednesday suspended a village accountant, a day after the Lokayukta registered a case against four government officials for allegedly creating and certifying a false death record of a farmer who is still alive.

Belagavi deputy commissioner Mohammed Roshan on Wednesday suspended village accountant Neela Muragod who allegedly registered a farmer, Irappa Nagappa Abbai, as dead in the government records that led other senior officers to issue a letter to grant a death certificate.

The 53-year-old farmer from Sutagatti village in Savadatti taluk, was officially declared dead in 2021 in government records, even as he remained alive. Based on these entries, a death certificate was also issued in his name, resulting in him being deprived of benefits under various government welfare schemes he was legally entitled to.

According to a statement issued by Upa (deputy) Lokayukta justice Veerappa, the case was registered on Tuesday after media reports highlighted the lapse. The complaint has been filed against Neela Muragod, village accountant, Sutagatti; RS Patil, revenue inspector, Muragod Circle; Mallikarjun Heggannavar, tahsildar, Savadatti and Praveen Jain, sub-divisional officer, Bailhongal. “We have registered a suo motu cognisance case against the officials after their erring was proved true,” justice Veerappa said.

The Lokayukta has initiated an inquiry into the matter to determine responsibility for the administrative failure.

Justice Veerappa said that the suspension of Neela Muragod from the services would have no impact on the case against her.

Bengal BLO death case: TMC worker arrested for abetting suicide in Murshidabad

A Trinamool Congress worker has been arrested in Murshidabad after a BLO allegedly took his own life due to a Rs 20 lakh unpaid loan and threats. The incident contradicts earlier political claims made by local TMC leaders and has sparked fresh controversy.

Kolkata:
A fresh controversy has erupted in West Bengal after a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was arrested in connection with the suicide of a Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Murshidabad. Police confirmed on Tuesday that the accused TMC worker had allegedly failed to return a loan of Rs 20 lakh to the deceased BLO, which drove him into severe mental distress. The incident has triggered political tremors especially after the local Trinamool leadership initially linked the death to SIR-related pressure and even staged protests outside the office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Kolkata.

Police probe points to loan default and threats

The accused, identified as Bullet Khan from the Ranitala police station area, was arrested on Monday after investigators traced the case back to a major loan issue. The deceased BLO was identified as Hamimul Islam (47) -- a resident of Alaipur village under Bhagwangola Block II. He was found dead inside a school on Saturday night (January 10). According to the police, Khan had borrowed Rs 20 lakh from Islam but allegedly refused to return it. The police said Khan even threatened to kill Islam when he demanded repayment. The mounting pressure and fear reportedly pushed the BLO to take the extreme step, they said.

Khan sent to police custody

A case has been registered against Khan on charges of abetting suicide. Following his arrest, Khan was produced before the Lalbagh sub-divisional court, which remanded him to five days of police custody.

BLOs protest over deaths, stress during SIR

Earlier on Monday, a section of BLOs staged a protest in front of the office of the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer, alleging that the EC has remained indifferent to the deaths of several BLOs during the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls. The protesters were members of the BLO Adhikar Raksha Committee. They claimed that BLOs across the state have been under "tremendous mental and physical pressure" ever since the revision exercise began, with the workload taking a serious toll on their health.

They alleged that several officers had "broken down during training programmes" due to stress linked to tight deadlines, extensive field verification, and scrutiny of large volumes of data. The agitating BLOs also cited reports of multiple deaths of officers in different districts since the revision process started, a development that has triggered concern in both administrative and political circles.

Delhi: 50-year-old man jumps to death from Le Meridien Hotel's 12th floor | Video

Delhi: Parvinder Singh, a resident of South Delhi's Lajpat Nagar, was in his late 40s or early 50s- though early reports mistakenly tied him to Rajendra Nagar. Details about his job, family, or daily life remain scarce, as neighbours and contacts have stayed silent so far.

New Delhi:
A shocking incident unfolded at the Le Meridien Hotel in Delhi's Rajendra Nagar area, where a 50-year-old man took his own life by leaping from the 12th floor. Identified as Parvinder Singh, a resident of Lajpat Nagar, the man entered the hotel unannounced on Sunday afternoon (January 4), rode the elevator to the top, and jumped. This heartbreaking event has left authorities scrambling for answers, with police launching a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to his death.

Sequence of events

Around 12:30 pm on January 4, 2026, Delhi Police received a frantic call reporting a suicide at Le Meridien Hotel. The caller alerted them that a man had jumped from the 12th floor, landing fatally on the ground below. Parvinder Singh, approximately 50 years old, had not been staying at the hotel at the time of the incident.

Eyewitness accounts and initial police findings reveal that Singh entered the premises casually during the afternoon. He proceeded directly to the elevator, ascended to the 12th floor without drawing attention, and then hurled himself off the balcony. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but he was pronounced dead on arrival due to severe injuries from the fall.

Interestingly, Singh had a prior connection to the hotel- he had stayed there during the Christmas period just weeks earlier. This detail has raised questions about whether unresolved personal issues or a momentary impulse drove him back to the site.

Victim's background and mystery motive

Parvinder Singh hailed from Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi, though some reports initially linked him to Rajendra Nagar. Described as being in his late 40s or early 50s, little is known publicly about his personal or professional life at this stage. Neighbours and acquaintances have yet to come forward with significant details, leaving his story shrouded in mystery.

Police sources indicate no suicide note was found, and the exact trigger remains unclear. Was it financial distress, relationship troubles, or mental health struggles exacerbated by the holiday season? Investigators are tight-lipped, focusing instead on piecing together his final hours.

Police response and investigation underway

Delhi Police swiftly cordoned off the area and began a multi-pronged probe. Teams are scrutinising the hotel's extensive CCTV footage to trace Singh's movements from entry to exit. Staff members, including those at the front desk and elevator operators, are being interrogated to uncover any interactions or red flags.

Forensic experts examined the scene, collecting evidence from the impact site and the 12th-floor ledge. An autopsy is underway to rule out any foul play, though preliminary assessments point firmly to suicide. "We are leaving no stone unturned," a senior officer stated, emphasising the need to understand why a man familiar with the hotel chose it as the site for his final act.

The hotel management has cooperated fully, temporarily halting operations on the affected floors. This incident marks a somber note for the luxury property, known for hosting high-profile events.

The incident unfolded in the family home, where Sushmita first gave poison to her infant son and Lalitha. While the child succumbed to the effects, Lalitha received urgent medical care and is under medical treatment as authorities monitor her condition. Sushmita then hanged herself, leaving investigators to piece together the motives behind the double tragedy.

Allegations of husband's harassment

A formal complaint accuses Sushmita's husband, Yashwanth Reddy, of ongoing harassment that may have driven her to this desperate step. Family members highlighted sustained emotional or domestic abuse as a potential trigger, though police have yet to confirm details pending deeper inquiry.

Police launch full investigation

Meerpet Police registered the case swiftly and began probing the suicide, poisoning, and harassment claims. Early findings point to domestic strife, with further details expected as forensic reports and witness statements emerge.

32-year-old man found hanging at in-laws' home in Delhi amid matrimonial dispute; police probe on

The man, identified as Ajab Singh, a resident of Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh, died inside a room on the first floor of the house.

New Delhi:
A 32-year-old man was found dead after allegedly hanging himself inside a room at his in-laws' house in southeast Delhi, police said on Monday. The man, identified as Ajab Singh, is a resident of Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh.

Police said they received a PCR call around 9 am on Sunday reporting a domestic dispute in the Gautampuri area of Badarpur. A team was immediately dispatched to the spot, where Singh was found dead in a first-floor room of the house.

According to a senior police officer, Singh had come to Delhi to convince his wife to return home amid an ongoing matrimonial dispute. "However, after his request was declined by her family members, he locked himself inside a room. When police reached the house, the door of the room was found locked from the inside. It was broken open, following which Singh was found hanging from a ceiling fan," the officer said.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that Singh was under severe stress due to marital discord. Family members present at the spot, including his father, told police that they do not suspect any foul play. Their statements have been recorded as part of the investigation.

Police said no suicide note was recovered from the scene. "The exact circumstances that led to the extreme step will be ascertained after completion of the inquest proceedings and post-mortem examination," he added.

The body has been sent to the AIIMS mortuary for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway.
