Delhi Coaching Deaths: Court Asks CBI To Probe MCD Corrupt Practices

The Rouse Avenue Court on Friday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct further investigation into the issues of dereliction of duties and corrupt practices by the MCD officials.

New Delhi:
The Rouse Avenue Court on Friday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct further investigation into the issues of dereliction of duties and corrupt practices by the MCD officials.

This direction has been issued in a protest petition moved by the father of IAS aspirant Nevin Delvin, who drowned in the flooded basement of Rau's IAS study circle in Rajender Nagar in July 2024.

While issuing the direction, the CBI judge pointed out that the High Court in August 2024 had directed the CBI to investigate the criminal negligence, dereliction of duties, and corrupt practices indulged by any person, including the officials of local authorities.

Principal District and Sessions Judge (PDSJ) Dinesh Bhat on Thursday allowed the protest petition for further investigation, moved by Suresh Delvin, the father of Nevin Delvin.

Suresh Delvin had moved an application for further investigation filed as a protest petition.

Nevin Dalvin alongwith two other students, is claimed to have died on July 27, 2024, due to the flooding of the basement Library of Rau's IAS Study Circle

"Investigation Officer (IO) is therefore directed to carry out further investigation in the matter regarding the issue of probable dereliction of duties/corrupt practices by the officials of the MCD which have led to the institute having continued in its illegal use of the basement, thereby being instrumental in loss of lives of innocent citizens and to file report as per law," PDSJ Bhat ordered on March 12.

The court noted that the High Court, in terms of the order on August 2, 2024, in the present case, has specifically directed the CBI to carry out full fledged investigation regarding the incident, including but not limited to the criminal negligence, dereliction of duties, and corrupt practices indulged by any person, including the officials of the local authority.

The court had also observed that three young lives were snuffed out, apparently due to greed, and/or negligence and/or failure to discharge duty.

" In terms of the directions, the IO was duty-bound to investigate the issue of criminal negligence, as well as dereliction of duties, and corrupt practices. But the IO has not investigated from the perspective of dereliction of duties by the concerned officials in regard to the usage of the said building as a coaching centre in the basement," the court pointed out in the order.

The court further said that merely to say that the lowest official in the hierarchy did not perform his duty will not suffice, as it was the duty of the supervising officers to see that the necessary compliance was being carried out on the ground, and also their subordinates were putting up proper and complete reports after actual inspections.

CBI filed a charge sheet on September 26, 2024, and a supplementary charge sheet on April 24, 2025, but as per the applicant, IO has not conducted a free and fair investigation, the applicant Suresh Delvin alleged.

It was argued by advocate Abhijeet Anand, counsel for the applicant, that it was admitted that the height of the building in question was more than 15 meters, which was even noted by the BSES during inspection, but the owners of the building had taken the sanction by misrepresentation.

The occupancy and completion certificate was issued on August 9, 2021, under the signature of the Executive Engineer Kumar Mahendra. The sanction was granted on May 13, 2019, which was done under misrepresentation and inspection carried out by MCD officials, the plea said.

This case pertains to a tragic flooding incident which occured at Rau's IAS study circle on July 27, 2024. Three IAS aspirants drowned in a flooded basement.

Police said the women were identified as Kanakalatha and her daughter, Aswathy. While the three others are Aswathy’s children - two sons aged 14 and 10 and a two-year-old daughter.

Officials at the Ernakulam North Police Station said the family had not been seen outside their house since Friday, following which the house owner checked the premises and found all five dead.

The case comes months after a woman allegedly hanged her three children and then attempted to take her own life by consuming diesel in Karnataka’s Bagalkot, nearly 500 kms from Banglore. However, while all three children died, the woman herself survived and is currently in critical condition.

Syringe, Basement Room and Bleeding Wife: How Gurugram Hospital Worker Killed and Concealed His Crime

Gurugram Dowry Death: A 23-year-old woman named Kajal was discovered unconscious at her maternal home in Gurugram on March 18 and later died after being taken to a hospital.

Gurugram Dowry Death: A 23-year-old woman, Kajal, was found unconscious and bleeding at her maternal home in Garhi Harsaru, Gurugram, on March 18. Her family rushed her to a nearby hospital, which then transferred her to a civic-run facility. However, the woman died before she could make to other hospital. The suspicious circumstances triggered a police investigation. It revealed that Arun, her husband, was seen taking Kajal to a basement room shortly before she was found unconscious. The woman's family also informed the police about a syringe found in a bathroom, adding that the accused administered a poisonous injection to kill the woman. Both worked at a hospital; Kajal was a nurse and Arun worked in the X-Ray department.

The couple had married in November 2025 with both families' consent and had recently shifted to Kajal's maternal home from a rented apartment, just days before Holi, reported The Times of India.

According to her brother Gurdeep, trouble began soon after the wedding. Arun grew addicted to drugs and repeatedly assaulted Kajal over dowry demands.

On the night of March 17, he allegedly beat her while under the influence. The next morning, around 9.15 am, he took her to the basement saying he needed to speak privately, and the family found her unconscious shortly after.
Police registered a case under Section 80(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which covers dowry death, at Sector 10A police station. Following the procedure, the police on Saturday produced Arun before a local court, which remanded to three days of police custody.

Confession

A police officer later confirmed that Arun admitted to administering an injection to his wife, which led to her death. “The accused admitted to administering an injection to his wife on the day of the incident, which led to her death,” a police officer said, the media report added.
A further investigation in the matter is underway.

2 Workers Die In Indore Sewer, Compensation Records Reveal A Grim Reality

According to Additional DCP Sumit Kerkatta, the two sanitation workers lost consciousness due to toxic gas while inspecting the sewer chamber.

Two sanitation workers suffocated to death inside a sewer in Indore in the first week of March, a city that proudly carries the title of India's cleanest.

On a March evening around 6:30 pm near Choithram Mandi Gate, municipal sanitation workers had arrived with a suction tanker to clean a sewer line. During the operation, a piece of pipe from the suction machine reportedly fell inside the sewer tank.

To retrieve it, a municipal worker named Karan climbed down into the chamber. Inside the tank, toxic gases had accumulated. Within moments, Karan began suffocating and collapsed inside the chamber. Seeing him fall unconscious, another worker, Ajay, rushed in to rescue him. But Ajay also collapsed. By the time rescue teams arrived and pulled them out, both sanitation workers were dead.

Police and SDRF teams later conducted a rescue operation, and two others, another sanitation worker and a local citizen who had tried to help, were pulled out safely. But the incident has triggered uncomfortable questions.

Why were workers allowed to enter a sewer chamber without gas detection equipment? Why were there no oxygen masks, harnesses or protective gear?

And why, according to eyewitnesses, did emergency help take nearly two hours to arrive?

Eyewitness Amit Rajak said locals desperately tried to save the workers themselves. "Neither the police nor the municipal corporation arrived for almost two hours. There was nothing we could do. The workers had entered the chamber without safety equipment," he said.

According to Additional DCP Sumit Kerkatta, the two sanitation workers lost consciousness due to toxic gas while inspecting the sewer chamber. Police, SDRF teams and local residents later pulled them out.

But the larger crisis runs far deeper than this single accident.

Government records show that tens of thousands of workers in Madhya Pradesh are dying during their working years.

Labour department figures reveal that over 60,000 worker deaths every year are recorded under the state's Sambal welfare scheme, which provides financial assistance to families of dead labourers.

The deaths span construction sites, factories, farms and hazardous jobs like sanitation work.

In 2024-25 alone, the state recorded about 57,000 natural deaths and 5,800 accidental deaths among workers aged between 18 and 60. These deaths are particularly alarming because the average life expectancy in the state is around 67 years, yet thousands of workers never reach that age.

Recognising the seriousness of the problem, the Labour Department has now written to all district collectors directing them to introduce preventive health measures, workplace safety enforcement and regular health monitoring of workers.

The government has asked districts to organise health camps, regular medical screening for blood pressure, diabetes and heart risk, and safety awareness programmes across industrial areas, construction sites, brick kilns and agricultural workplaces. Strict compliance with workplace safety standards and protective equipment has also been emphasised.

But labour rights activists say sanitation workers remain among the most vulnerable. Despite laws prohibiting unsafe manual entry into sewer chambers, workers are still routinely sent inside toxic tanks without protective gear.

According to police, she was found hanging on Saturday from a ceiling fan, with police suspecting it to be a case of suicide. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead, police said. Shruthi married Kalyan, a private employee, in December 2024, and the couple has been residing in Yelahanka since then, a senior police officer said.

However, her family has alleged that Kalyan and his family had been harassing Shruthi for additional dowry, which often led to quarrels between them, he said. The officer said the two families had recently resolved their disputes, but the issue cropped up again.

Amruth, Shruthi's younger brother, told reporters that he was informed over the phone that his sister had died by suicide. "They told me on the phone that my sister died by suicide, and I immediately informed my father. The couple had argued earlier that day before I was told she had died. New chilling details have emerged in the deaths of five family members in Kochi’s Vaduthala area, with a suicide note indicating prolonged emotional distress and strained family circumstances. Five family members, including three children, were found dead at a rented house in Kochi on Saturday (March 21). According to police, the deceased consisted of two women and three children who were from Thiruvananthapuram and had been staying in a rented house in Vaduthala for the past few months for treatment at a private hospital nearby.

The eldest child was found in another room, placed on a sheet laid out on the floor and dressed in suit.

Husband's Death and The Blame

Police said th note recovered from the house suggests that Aswathi Nair had been under severe pressure following her husband’s death in August last year. He had died by suicide amid reported health issues linked to alcoholism and marital discord. According to investigators, the note indicates that Aswathi faced blame from her husband’s family after his death, which may have contributed to her mental state.
Officials also revealed that about a month after the incident, she had prepared a will stating that her assets should be transferred to an entity named “Providence Home”. Authorities are now trying to identify the organisation and verify its connection to the case.

Police believe she may have been contemplating suicide for some time. The family had moved to Kochi two months ago from Thiruvananthapuram for the medical treatment of the eldest child. Medicines were recovered from the house, and the child’s medical history is being examined as part of the probe.

Investigators said the house had been rented temporarily and the family was expected to vacate soon. Concern was raised after they stopped responding to calls. A relative of the house owner entered using a spare key and found the bodies inside, with the air-conditioner still running.Police suspect poisoning in the deaths of the children, though the exact cause will be confirmed after post-mortem examinations. Pune: Nearly a year after losing her father in the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, Asavari Jagdale has been appointed as a Class-II Administrative Officer in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), in a move seen as both support and recognition for the bereaved family. Asavari is the daughter of Santosh Jagdale, who was among those killed in the brutal terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025. The appointment letter was handed over by Mayor Manjusha Nagpure in the presence of House Leader Ganesh Bidkar and Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram.

Officials said the appointment was made under special consideration, taking into account Asavari’s academic qualifications, which include a degree in Computer Science and postgraduate studies in Human Resource Management. The Jagdale family had been grappling with emotional and financial distress after Santosh Jagdale’s death, and the move is expected to provide them some stability.

Pahalgam Terror Attack

The April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack had sent shockwaves across the country, with terrorists targeting civilians in one of Kashmir’s most visited tourist regions. The assault, carried out in a crowded area, left multiple people dead and several others injured, prompting widespread condemnation and a heightened security response in the Valley.

Santosh Jagdale, a resident of Maharashtra, was among the victims caught in the attack. His death drew attention to the risks faced by tourists and workers visiting the region. Family members had earlier recounted the devastating impact of the loss, describing how the tragedy abruptly altered their lives.

In the aftermath of the attack, both the central and state governments had announced compensation and assistance measures for victims’ families. However, for many, including the Jagdales, the loss went beyond financial hardship, leaving a lasting emotional void.

Lucknow Woman Strangles Mother-in-Law With Lover's Help, Then a CCTV 'Mistake' Gets Them Caught

Lucknow Woman Strangles Mother-in-Law, Lover Aids, CCTV Off—Grandson Finds Her Dead

A 69-year-old woman was found choked to death with her hands tied, and injury marks on her neck, at her home in Lucknow on Saturday (March 21), police said. Nirmala Devi's son, Tridesh, has accused his wife, Ranjana, and her lover, tenant Rajan, of planning and executing the crime. Tridesh filed a complaint stating, "Ranjana was in a relationship with their tenant, Rajan, and they killed Nirmala because she opposed their meetings when I was away for work."
Ranjana and Rajan—a taxi driver and mechanic— have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Tied and Strangled

According to police, Nirmala lived with Tridesh, Ranjana, and their three children on the ground floor of their two-storey house in Nishatganj. The top floor was rented out. Investigators allege that on Saturday, while Tridesh was at work, the accused duo tied the victim Nirmala Devi's hands and legs before strangling her to death with a saree.

The duo then stole her ornaments and deliberately disabled the CCTV cameras between 2 pm and 4 pm. After carrying out the crime, the two fled in a car and later reactivated the CCTV system remotely using a mobile phone.

Their plan started to unravel when the victim’s 18-year-old grandson, Aditya, returned home around 4 pm and discovered his grandmother unconscious with her hands and feet tied. He raised an alarm, informed his father, Tridesh Verma, and tried calling his mother.

Worried about raising suspicion, Ranjana and Rajan returned home and tried to make the crime look like a robbery and murder. Ranjana was seen feigning grief and claimed they were not at home when it happened. Police grew suspicious after noticing the CCTV system had been turned off during the critical hours. External camera footage showed Ranjana leaving the house with Rajan. A sniffer dog at the scene guided investigators straight to Rajan, who appeared anxious and tried to avoid them.

Extramarital Relationship as Motive

While Rajan initially claimed he was not home at the time of the incident, sources, as quoted by NDTV, said he confessed during questioning.
Rajan had been living at Tridesh's home for about three years, and his relationship with Ranjana led to repeated quarrels.

Investigators learned that Ranjana continued her extramarital relationship with Rajan despite opposition from her family. The police statement added that Nirmala had argued with Ranjana three days before the incident and said she would cook her own meals.
Tridesh said, "Ranjana and Rajan would meet after I left for work, and my mother objected to this. This prompted them to plot and execute her murder."

A 16-year-old girl was found murdered in an abandoned house in the DJ Halli area in Bengaluru last week. According to the police, her fiancé, who brutally killed her on Tuesday (March 17), has been arrested in Rajasthan's Ajmer, according to a Times of India report.

Her 25-year-old fiancé, Syed Sabeel, is a resident of Kushalnagar in KG Halli and was absconding after the murder of the teen girl. However, the girl was from the Kolar district, TOI reported.
The police formed a team and tracked him down, leading to his arrest in Ajmer. The police are now bringing him back to Bengaluru on a transit warrant to continue the investigation into the case.

How The Bengaluru Girl Was Killed?

The teenage girl's fiancé killed her by slitting her throat inside a dilapidated house on March 17. The abandoned house in DJ Halli was their main meeting point.

The girl used to visit her aunt in the DJ Halli. During these visits, she met Sabeel, and the two began a relationship. Sabeel used to help his father run an onion shop.
After their families learned about them, they arranged their engagement in June last year. However, things did not set right, and tensions emerged after she continued to meet Sabeel secretly.

What Happened After The Girl Went Missing?

On Tuesday last week, the girl went missing from her aunt's house. She left her phone at home, which made the family more worried. As they tried calling Sabeel, he did not answer either.
Based on a tip-off, the girl's aunt visited the abandoned house where the two used to meet. There, they found the girl lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut injury to her throat, according to a TOI report.
According to the preliminary investigation, the last call from the girl's phone was to Sabeel. However, the accused will be interrogated after being brought back to Bengaluru.
"Once he is brought to the city, he will be taken into police custody and questioned in detail," TOI reported, quoting a police official.

The teenage boy was in a relationship with a girl of his age for the past few months; however, the girl's family was not in favour of their relationship. "Bodies Moving, Minds Drowning": Startup Founder Reacts To Mental Health Crisis In India

With the message, he urged people to reflect on their priorities and focus on building meaningful relationships

Prafull Billore, founder of MBA Chai Wala, has highlighted a pressing issue in India that's affecting people's personal and professional lives. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Billore pointed out that marriages are falling apart and relationships feel suffocating. He wrote that despite economic growth, people are struggling with stagnant careers and a lack of purpose, failing marriages and strained relationships, financial stress, and mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

"I travel across India and meet hundreds of people. Rich ones. Struggling ones. Young ones. Middle-aged ones. And the most common thing I see isn't ambition. It isn't poverty either," Billore wrote on X.

"It's quiet suffering."

"Marriages falling apart. Relationships that feel like prisons. Work that drains the soul. Debt that never ends. Businesses that won't grow. Finances that spiral," he said.

What's the root cause?

According to Billore, the reason behind the crisis is a growing emotional disconnect in society. People are physically present but mentally absent, leading to a sense of isolation.

"Careers going nowhere. Bodies moving. Minds drowning. Obesity. Tension. Anxiety. Depression. Nobody talks about it. Everyone is experiencing it," he wrote.

"We are a society that is physically the most present - and mentally the most absent. Sitting in the same room as their family. Gone somewhere else inside their head."

"The real crisis isn't in the economy. It's happening inside people - silently, heavily, every single day."

Social Media Reaction

The post went viral with over 23,200 views and hundreds of likes. Online users took to the comment section to share their point of view. "The real tragedy is that most people have already decided their life is supposed to feel this way. Ghaziabad Astrologer Lived with Mother's Dead Body for Two Days Before Jumping to Death

A 42-year-old astrologer named Rajveer jumped from his building in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, after living for two days with the body of his deceased mother, Satnam, discovered by police.

A week after a 42-year-old astrologer jumped to his death from the 13th floor of his building in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, disturbing details have begun to surface, painting the picture of a man quietly unravelling under the weight of grief, debt, and loneliness. The incident took place on March 19 at a high-rise society in Ghaziabad. When police reached the spot after Rajveer jumped to his death, they made another grim discovery. In a separate flat on the ground floor of the same building, they found the body of his 70-year-old mother, Satnam, wrapped in a blanket, said a media report.

She had been dead for at least two days. Police ruled out murder, noting that her body showed no visible injury marks. The exact cause of her death is yet to be determined, pending a post-mortem report. This means Rajveer had been living in the same house as his mother's dead body for two days before he took his own life. People who knew him say he had often told them that he would not survive his mother's death. He kept that word, reported by NDTV.

Rajveer lived alone with his mother while his estranged wife and son stayed separately in Crossing Republik, a township in Ghaziabad. His wife told police that he had not sent any money for household expenses in the last four months, pointing to a relationship that had long broken down.

But the complications in his personal life did not end there. When police went through his phone, they found that Rajveer had been in a relationship with a woman from Haryana and wanted to marry her. He had reportedly told her that he was already divorced. Minutes before jumping, he sent his phone's lock code to his estranged wife through a text message, a quiet gesture that suggested he knew exactly what he was about to do.

Financial Troubles

Rajveer was also neck-deep in debt, owing approximately Rs 15 to 16 lakh. His financial troubles, combined with his personal losses, appear to have pushed him to a breaking point. In recent years, he had already lost both his father and his brother. After his brother's death, his sister-in-law had remarried and moved on, leaving Rajveer with very little family around him.
Neighbours said he rarely stepped out or interacted with anyone in the building. To those around him, he was largely invisible, a man carrying everything alone, until he could not anymore.

Lover Lures Delhi Woman to Bulandshahr, Kills Her and Attends Family Function Like Nothing Happened

Delhi Woman Beheaded in UP: Bulandshahr Police made significant progress in solving the murder of a headless woman, identified as Babli, whose body was found near a canal on March 15.

Delhi Woman Beheaded in UP: The Bulandshahr Police in Uttar Pradesh achieved a major breakthrough in the case of a headless woman's body discovered near a canal in a forested stretch of Ghunghrawali village on March 15. According to the police, the victim's identity was confirmed by her family when the officials shared a post with whatever details they gathered during the investigation. This led to the arrest of two individuals, including the woman's lover who allegedly have confessed to kill her.

The incident unfolded on March 15 when Vikas Kumar, the prime accused, called Babli to his village in Bulandshahr. Once there, Vikas, his cousin Sachin, and his friend Aman Kumar consumed alcohol before carrying out the crime. According to Bulandshahr SP City Shanker Prasad, the trio grabbed Babli by her limbs, decapitated her with a sharp weapon, and threw her head approximately 500 metres away from her body in a deliberate attempt to hide her identity and slow down the investigation, reported by The Times of India.

Accused-Victim Relationship

After losing her husband to cancer about two-and-a-half years ago, she had found companionship in Vikas Kumar, a 32-year-old native of Bulandshahr who had once worked alongside her late husband at a private hospital. The two began living together in Delhi, and for a while, life seemed to move forward. But that stability did not last.
In December 2025, Vikas decided to marry someone else, while Babli allegedly continued to pressure him to stay with her.

Vikas Attended

After committing the crime, Vikas showed little sign of remorse or panic. He attended a family function in his village, then quietly returned to Muradnagar in Ghaziabad, where he had settled after his marriage. To throw investigators off his trail, he even filed a missing person complaint, a move that only deepened the cruelty of what he had done.
Meanwhile, the family of Babli came to know about her death on March 22, when her mother, daughter, and brother-in-law came across a photo posted by the police on social media and recognised her.

Arrests and Arms Recovery

Police surveillance found Vikas near the crime scene, which led to his arrest in Muradnagar. Aman Kumar was picked up separately from Bulandshahr. The sharp weapon used in the murder, along with illegal firearms and the motorcycle linked to the accused, were all recovered.
Both Vikas and Aman have since confessed to the crime. A search is currently underway for the third accused, Sachin. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering charges of murder and destruction of evidence.

Man Paraded Naked for Love Marriage: A 25-year-old man was violently attacked and publicly humiliated in Jalgaon district after marrying a woman against her family's wishes.

Man Paraded Naked for Love Marriage: A 25-year-old man was reportedly thrashed, disrobed, tied to a pole, and paraded naked in Jalgaon district in front of the public for marrying a woman against the will of his family. According to the police, a group of 15 people barged into the house of the victim's uncle where he had shifted after the marriage. The mob first assaulted the couple, then singled out the victim and subjected him to the humiliating public ordeal, as confirmed by the police. Following his complaint, the police arrested five people and booked them under relevant charges.

The incident occurred between 11:30 am and 12 noon, hours after the couple had tied the knot. Inspector Rahul Wagh of the Bhusawal Bazarpeth Police Station said they immediately rushed to the spot and arrested some of the accused, while others managed to flee. He stated that the bride's maternal uncle, mother, and their sons were the main suspects. By the time officials reached the spot, the prime suspects had already absconded.

Main Accused Was Victim's Mother-In-Law, Her Brother

Meanwhile, the arrested individuals have been identified as Komal Patil, one of the in-laws of the victim, Heramb Chaudhary, Sanjay Badhe, Vijay Patil, and Dnyaneshwar Bhoi. Wagh said all the accused were produced before a court on Saturday and remanded to five-day police custody.

The police have registered an FIR (First Information Report) under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(2) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), and 138 (abduction), among other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
In the FIR, the victim stated that he and his wife belonged to the same community and lived in adjacent villages. He had been in a relationship with her for 18 months. On March 18, they left their homes and married at Panchavati in Nashik. They later informed the Bhusawal Police about their marriage, who in turn notified the woman's family. Initially, no one came to the police station. The couple then went to the man's uncle's home in Bhusawal. Shortly after, the group arrived at the premises and assaulted the couple.

Kolkata Patient Died Looking for a Toilet at RG Kar Hospital; System Failure Claims 2nd Life in 3 Days

Kolkata Patient Forced to Walk to Toilet at RG Kar: A patient at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, Biswajit Samanta, died due to the unavailability of an accessible toilet rather than treatment failure.

Kolkata Patient Forced to Walk to Toilet at RG Kar: A patient at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, died not due to a failure of treatment, but the absence of an accessible toilet. Biswajit Samanta was admitted to the hospital's trauma unit after complaining of breathing difficulties and a nosebleed. He received initial treatment but was directed to walk all the way to the first floor to use a pay-and-use toilet. He collapsed before he could reach it and was declared dead. Hospital staff later admitted that the toilet in the trauma unit was under renovation and that they were "planning" to make alternative arrangements. The incident comes just three days after another death at RG Kar, this one caused by a malfunctioning elevator.
After his initial treatment, doctors asked Samanta, a resident of Nimta, to wait for further admission procedures. When he felt the urge to urinate, he found the trauma unit toilet locked. Although two other toilets, reserved for doctors and staff, were operational, he was directed to use the one on the first floor, despite his critical condition, reported news agency PTI.

His son alleged that despite repeated requests, no trolley or wheelchair was provided, forcing the patient to walk unassisted.

Serious Lapses

While police have filed a case of unnatural death, Trinamool Congress MLA Atin Ghosh termed it a "serious lapse" in the handling of a critical patient. Also a member of the hospital's Rogi Kalyan Samity (patient welfare committee), Ghosh said he would approach the hospital principal seeking a report on the incident and measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. He added that a high-risk patient should never have been asked to leave the trauma care centre in search of a toilet, and that if public facilities were unavailable due to renovation, the patient should have been permitted to use the toilets reserved for doctors and nurses.

Hospital's Future Planning

Medical Superintendent and Vice Principal (MSVP) Saptarshi Chatterjee confirmed that the only patient toilet in the emergency area is currently under renovation owing to heavy patient footfall. "There is no provision for bio-toilets, but we are trying to implement it to overcome the problem. We are trying to improve the arrangements for doctors, staff, and patients. If possible, we will make further arrangements," he said.

Bengal BLO Dies of Heart Attack Amid SIR Pressure; Family Says He Was Swamped by Voters Seeking Help

A 54-year-old booth-level officer from West Bengal, Utpal Thakur, died from a heart attack, with his family attributing the incident to the stress of election-related duties

A 54-year-old booth-level officer (BLO) from Malda district in West Bengal died of a heart attack late Saturday night, with his family alleging that the pressure of election-related work drove him to his death. Utpal Thakur, who also worked as a para-teacher, suffered the attack at around 10.30 pm and could not be saved. His family believes the burden of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, assigned to BLOs across the state, played a direct role in his death.

"He was under immense pressure during the ongoing SIR process. Even after the voter list was published on February 28, those who had been placed in the 'under adjudication' category often came to him and asked whether their names would appear on the supplementary list," a family member said. It was learnt that around 110 voters in his booth were placed in the 'under adjudication' category in the post-SIR electoral roll.

The pressure of preparing the supplementary electoral roll caused his heart attack," another family member alleged, adding that no police complaint was filed.

Utpal's wife said, "My husband worked tirelessly in the SIR exercise, but could not handle work-related stress and suffered a heart attack. I don't know how to manage the family expenses. We hope that the government will support my daughters and me."

Locals said several of those who were in the 'under adjudication' category or whose names were deleted had alleged that the BLO had not properly uploaded their documents on the Election Commission's website. "People don't understand the EC's procedures. They approached the BLO directly and asked whether their documents were uploaded properly or not. Deleted voters often sought the reasons for omission," said a neighbour of Thakur's family.

According to official data released on February 28, 63.66 lakh names, around 8.3 per cent of the electorate, have been deleted since the SIR process began in West Bengal in November last year, reducing the voter base from about 7.66 crore to just over 7.04 crore.

In addition, over 60.06 lakh electors have been placed in the 'under adjudication' category, meaning their eligibility would be determined through legal scrutiny, a process that could further reshape constituency-level electoral equations.
The supplementary voter lists in the state are expected to be published on Monday.

Bengaluru Man Slits Throat of Mother, Sister And Nephew, Then Attempts To Kill Self; 2 Dead, 2 critical

A Bengaluru family’s financial debt allegedly drove a man to kill his mother, sister, and nephew, before attempting suicide.

Four members of a family attempted suicide in Bengaluru, leaving two dead and two critically injured, police said. Asha (55) and her daughter Varshitha (34) died on the spot. Varshitha’s brother Mohan Gowda (32) and her 11-year-old son sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. According to police, Mohan allegedly slit the throats of his mother, sister and nephew before attempting to take his own life, due to a suspected debt crisis.

The incident, as per a report by Times of India, took place in Mallenahalli near Attibele in Anekal taluk between 10 pm and 10.30 pm on Saturday (March 28). It came to light after the family recorded a video stating that financial debt had pushed them to take the extreme step.

The video was sent to relatives. After receiving the video, relatives rushed to the house. Finding the doors locked from the inside, they entered through the back door and found the four family members inside the house. Police were alerted soon after and reached the spot.

Debt and business losses under scanner

Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Chandrakanth MV said preliminary investigation suggests that heavy financial debt was the reason behind the incident. Mohan was reportedly involved in chit fund businesses, dealing in amounts ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
Police said he was also running seasonal chit schemes related to meat during the Ugadi festival and firecrackers during the Diwali festival. Along with this, he, as per a report by NDTV, was allegedly leading an extravagant lifestyle, which resulted in mounting debts.

Additionally, further inquiries, as quoted by TOI, revealed that Varshitha had been battling a brain tumour for over a year and a half and was reportedly in a critical condition. The family had taken on substantial debt to fund her treatment as well.

Unable to repay the loans and the alleged harassment by creditors is believed to be the reason behind the family's decision to end their lives, police said. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Crime Tracker | From Students To Pregnant Women To Brides-To-Be: How Nashik Godman Targeted Women At Their Most Vulnerable

Nashik godman Ashokkumar Kharat has been arrested and faces charges of sexual assault, fraud, blackmail and illegal possession of arms. He targeted women who were at their most vulnerable - students, women in troubled marriages, pregnant women and brides-to-be.

From students to pregnant women, from marriage hopefuls to those experience marital distress, self-styled Nashik godman Ashok Kharat carefully identified women at their most vulnerable, and the survivors have now laid bare his modus operandi. Now being described as "Maharashtra's Epstein" - after disgraced American sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein - Kharat, a retired Merchant Navy officer who called himself “Captain”, exploited women through fear, manipulation and coercion.

Now, multiple survivors have come forward, detailing a pattern that was calculated. Among the survivors are students who sought academic success, pregnant women who wanted safe childbirth, and women who were looking for stable marriages.

Students, Pregnant Women Come Forward With Harrowing Tales Of Abuse

A 28-year-old BSc student told police she began receiving calls before every exam, with Kharat offering “blessings” for success. What followed, she alleged, was a cycle of threats and abuse. He reportedly warned her that he would expose her to her husband and “ruin her life” if she refused to meet him, and even threatened to kill her and her husband. Under pressure, she said she endured repeated sexual assault between 2023 and December 2025.

Another complainant said she was seven months pregnant when she visited him. He then offered to perform rituals for a "safe delivery" and the birth of a male child. Her husband was asked to wait outside. Inside, she alleged, Kharat switched off the lights and assaulted her on the pretext of chanting mantras. She said that the trauma pushed her into depression before she eventually confided in her husband, who then approached the police.

n another case, a woman approached him over marital problems. She said that he claimed to have divine powers and manipulated her. He later promised marriage after her divorce in 2021, and made advances towards her. However, when she resisted, he threatened “divine wrath”. She has claimed that Kharat later raped her and when she became pregnant, forced her to terminate it.
Survivors also described a recurring method - rituals involving substances and isolation. One woman told investigators she was made to drink “enchanted water” before being asked to stand with her eyes closed. She was then assaulted in a dark room. She said she was threatened that her children would be harmed if she spoke out.
In several cases, women who approached him for help finding a partner alleged that they were forced into repeated visits through manipulation and fear tactics. Even after some of them got married, Kharat would continue to call and threaten them, ensuring silence and compliance.

How Kharat Designed His Office To Sell His Image As An Occultist

Investigators say that Kharat designed his office in a manner that reinforced his image as an occultist - there were remote-controlled fake snakes and wildlife artefacts on the wall, including a tiger skin.

He allegedly also assessed clients’ financial backgrounds and fears before selling so-called “solutions” at exorbitant rates - items costing barely Rs 100 were passed off for nearly a lakh.

Men Too Among Victims

While the focus remains on women survivors, investigators said that several financially well-off men also approached him seeking help in finding brides. They were allegedly charged large sums for rituals and assurances, though no allegations of sexual assault against men have emerged so far.
Kharat is said to have had influential clients, including political figures. Police suspect CCTV footage from his office was used to blackmail victims.
He has been arrested and faces charges of sexual assault, fraud, blackmail and illegal possession of arms.
As more complaints surface, officials say the case is revealing not just individual crimes, but a wider system built on fear, superstition and control.

Mysterious Death or Hit-and-Run? Bengaluru Auto Driver Dumps Woman's Body in Garbage - Chilling Details

A hit-and-run incident in Kengeri, Bengaluru, resulted in the death of 50-year-old Kempamma. Initially thought to be a mysterious death, police investigations uncovered that she was struck by an autorickshaw driven by Basavegowda, who attempted to conceal the incident by abandoning her body in a garbage heap after realising she had died.

In a chilling crime, a hit-and-run in Bengaluru’s Kengeri claimed the life of a 50-year-old woman on Monday. What initially appeared to be a mysterious death soon took a dramatic turn after police launched an investigation, revealing it was a road accident, with the accused allegedly trying to cover up the crime to mislead authorities, according to a Times of India report.
Kempamma, a resident of Vinayakanagar in Kengeri, sustained severe head injuries after being hit by an autorickshaw on the Bengaluru road. However, the autorickshaw driver tried to cover up the crime to escape being caught.

What Auto Driver Did With The Woman?

The woman was hit by an auto on the Kengeri Satellite Town road and suffered severe injuries. The driver, scared, took her to a hospital, but after realising that she had died, he allegedly dumped her body in a garbage heap and fled the scene.

The vehicle hit Kempamma near a Domino's Pizza outlet while the accused was ferrying two passengers to Kengeri railway station. The passengers left the scene since they were rushing to catch the train.

After the woman was hit, the eyewitnesses immediately called the ambulance service. However, they did not arrive on time, and the woman died. The driver took the help of bystanders and rushed her to a hospital, where staff allegedly refused to treat her due to a lack of facilities at the medical centre.

What Driver Confessed During?

Kengeri police have arrested 50-year-old autorickshaw driver Basavegowda, a resident of Laggere, after checking the CCTV analysis and reviewing eyewitness accounts.
During the interrogation, he confessed that Kempamma suddenly walked onto the road and, unable to control the auto, he hit her, which left her severely injured, TOI reported.
"We have taken him into police custody to reconstruct the crime and match the chain of events with evidence. The case will later be handed over to the traffic police," said Deputy Commissioner of police (South-West) Anitha B Haddannavar, according to a TOI report.

The incident took place in the Baguihati area of North Kolkata. According to police, the accused, identified as Rudradeep, had come to stay with his mother, Ruma Chakraborty, at her rented flat near Kathpole in the Jagatpur area.

A man in Uttar Pradesh was arrested for allegedly killing his 29-year-old wife with a hand pump in Bichhiya Khurd village under Sadar Kotwali police station area. The incident occurred after the two had a heated argument at their house, according to a report by The Times of India. Amid the fight, the man hit her wife, Soni, on the head with the handle of the hand pump and dumped the body near Jalebiya Mod in the Chandraprabha jungle in Chandauli district on Saturday night.
The incident came to light on Sunday when Soni's sister was unable to contact her. She then alerted the police.

How Her Husband Was Found?

Chandauli's CO (Sadar) Devendra Kumar on Monday said that when police reached Guatam's place, his activities were found doubtful when cops started interrogating him.

Bitten by Snake, Boy Kept in Ganga for 12 Hours by UP Family; Dies

UP boy snakebite Ganga death: A 13-year-old boy from Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh, died after his family sought help from witch doctors instead of medical professionals following a snake bite.

UP boy snakebite Ganga death: A 13-year-old boy from Amroha district in Uttar Pradesh has died after his family spent three days taking him to an occult practitioner for treatment. Following which, they submerged the child in the Ganga River instead of seeking medical treatment, as per media reports. Amit, the youngest son of manual labourer Mahant and his wife Pala Devi of Pitampur village, was bitten by a poisonous snake on Thursday evening at around 6 pm while collecting straw near his family's farm. He worked in the field for three hours before returning home and telling his family what had happened. Shortly afterwards, he lost consciousness.

Rather than taking Amit to the local Community Health Centre (CHC), his family turned to superstition, Dainik Bhaskar reports. They first carried him to Khardakrani village in Sambhal, where the occult practitioner performed an exorcism. When his condition failed to improve, they took him to a second location in the Sirsa area of Sambhal for further rituals. Throughout this time, the snake venom continued to spread through his body.

Following a local belief that the waters of the Ganga can neutralise snake venom, the family built a wooden structure, tied Amit to it, and placed him in the river on Friday morning at around 9 am. He remained bound in the water for nearly 12 hours. He did not recover.

The family then took him to a traditional Hakim in Syana, Bulandshahr — his condition worsening all the while. By Saturday afternoon, believing the boy had died, they returned to Amroha and immersed him in the Ganga at around 2 pm.
Amit's mother Pala Devi defended the family's actions. "We've been carrying our son Amit around for three days," she said. "This has been happening since the time of our elders. We did the same. What could the doctors do when there was nothing left in the child?" the media report quoted.

'Never Took Him to Hospital Despite Deteriorating Health '

Dr Shashank Chaudhary, in-charge of CHC Rahra, said the family never brought the boy to any government hospital. "I learned about the child being tied up in the Ganga through the media," he said. "His family resorted to witchcraft, which resulted in the child's death."

He added that health workers regularly circulate awareness messages in the area, urging people to go immediately to a government hospital in the event of a snake bite or any suspected animal bite, so that proper examination and treatment can be carried out.

Amit, who was studying in Class 4, is survived by his parents and three siblings — two sisters and an elder brother. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Adampur police station.

Dead Mother, Killer Father: Road Trip for a Two-Year-Old in Madhya Pradesh Turns Harrowing

A routine trip turned tragic for a 25-year-old woman, who was allegedly murdered by her husband, Akshay Chaurapagar, while their two-year-old son was in the car.

Bhopal: What began as a routine journey from Murtijapur to Nagpur on March 23 turned into a nightmare for a 25-year-old woman and her two-year-old son. According to police reports, the woman was allegedly strangled to death by her 28-year-old husband, Akshay Chaurapagar, while their child sat in the backseat.
Following the murder, Chaurapagar reportedly drove aimlessly before heading toward Chhindwara, where he dumped his wife’s body in the Pench River. The incident came to light on March 24 when the dead body was found under the bridge, reported The Times of India.
Police registered as a case of unnatural death, the investigation gained momentum through a crucial piece of evidence:

The Tattoo

A tattoo on the victim's wrist reading "Pranita" helped police establish her identity. Singori outpost in-charge, Pankaj Rai, confirmed that photos were circulated to nearby stations immediately after the body was found.

The couple's two-year-old son remained asleep for much of the ordeal, unaware of the horror that had unfolded beside him.

Sagar District: Doctor Murders Wife to Hide Illicit Affair

In a separate but equally horrifying incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, a medical professional has been arrested for the brutal murder of his wife. Dr. Nilesh Kurmi stands accused of killing his wife, Seema, and attempting to incinerate her body to destroy evidence. Police said Dr. Kurmi was involved in an illicit affair, and he had frequent fights with Seema after she found out about it, reported MP Tak.

On the night of March 20, 2026, an argument escalated. Around 2:00 AM, Dr. Kurmi allegedly strangled Seema.
When their young daughter woke up during the struggle, the doctor reportedly lied, telling her, "Your mother is unwell; I am taking her to the hospital."

Dr. Kurmi allegedly coerced two of his tenants into helping him, claiming Seema had suffered a heart attack. They drove her body 50 kilometers away to a secluded area near Chanatoria, where the car was set ablaze using petrol.
Police have since arrested Dr. Kurmi and his two associates.

'Asked for Gold, Cash Back': Gujarat Woman Strangled by Ex-Househelp, Body Dumped in Basement

A trusted ex-househelp in Palanpur allegedly strangled a woman over gold and cash debt and dumped her body in the basement of an abandoned showroom.

A woman in Gujarat’s Palanpur, nearly 150km from Ahmedabad, was allegedly drugged and murdered by her former househelp over a debt of gold and cash, police said. The victim, Shanti Ben Akediwala, had been missing since March 22 before her body was recovered by police in a sack from the basement of an abandoned showroom in Palanpur.
The main accused, Rekha Rathore, had known Shanti Ben’s family for over 15 years, a report by NDTV reported. She first worked as a house help and later became friends with the family before starting her own furniture business. According to police reports, Shanti Ben had lent Rekha around 790 grams of gold jewellery and Rs 2 lakh in cash about a year ago to support her business.

Investigations suggest that when Shanti Ben began demanding the return of her assets, Rekha orchestrated a deadly trap.

Strangled, Sacked, Then Dumped

On the night of March 22, Shanti Ben was allegedly lured to Rekha’s furniture shop under the guise of a meeting. It is alleged that she was first drugged before being brutally murdered by Rekha, her husband, and two other accomplices, who allegedly strangled her using a wire used in bikes.

To erase evidence, the accused reportedly stuffed Shanti Ben’s body into a sack and dumped it in the basement of an abandoned showroom in Palanpur.

The police initiated a search after the family reported her missing. Following a tip-off and forensic leads, the body was recovered, confirming Rekha’s involvement.
Shanti Ben’s family members, including her daughter Nancy and sister Kailash Ben, protested at the police station, demanding the strictest possible punishment. They initially refused to claim her body, insisting that the accused be paraded publicly to answer for the betrayal.

Rekha Rathore and one of her aides are currently in police custody. “Police have formed special teams to track down three other individuals involved in the conspiracy,” officials said as quoted by NDTV. A case has been registered for murder, criminal conspiracy, and destruction of evidence. Authorities are continuing their interrogation to recover the gold and determine the exact substance used to drug Shanti Ben.

In a similar case in Maharashtra, a toddler died after swallowing a coin while playing at home. In another incident in UP, a young child choked on a piece of plastic from a toy.

Medical experts say that choking is amongst the leading causes of accidental death among infants, especially those below the age of one. Infants tend to explore objects by putting them in their mouths, and items such as nuts, seeds, coins, toy parts and even dried flowers can block the airway within seconds, leaving little time for intervention.

Doctors advise parents and caregivers to keep small objects, including pooja flowers, out of reach of infants. Babies and toddlers should be kept under constant supervision, especially during playtime. In case of choking, caregivers should immediately give age-appropriate first aid, and seek emergency medical aid without delay. Quick response in the first few minutes can be critical in saving a child's life.

A 36-year-old woman named Sharanya from Kochi has been missing for three days following a trek in Tadiyandamol, Karnataka. She had traveled alone and joined a group for safety, but failed to return after the group came back. Search efforts involving police, forest staff, and locals commenced immediately but were hindered by poor visibility.

A 36-year-old woman from Kochi has gone missing during a trek to Tadiyandamol in Karnataka’s Kodagu district, with search operations continuing for the third day on Saturday. Sharanya, a tech professional, had travelled alone from Kerala and was staying at a homestay in Yavakapady village. She had booked her trekking slot online and joined a group of other tourists on Thursday as a safety measure, as the area is known for the presence of wild elephants.

Did Not Return With Group

According to police, Sharanya did not return to the base even after the rest of the group came back on Thursday evening. This raised concern, and locals alerted forest officials.

Search teams, including forest staff, police and villagers, immediately began combing the hill. However, due to poor visibility after sunset, the operation had to be stopped later that night, as per TOI report.

The search resumed early Friday morning and has now entered its third day. Authorities have stepped up efforts to trace the missing woman.

DCF (Madikeri) Abhishek said that five teams have been formed to carry out the search. "We are searching at many locations. Kodagu district police dog squad is also involved in the operation, and drones are also being used," the DCF added.

Kodagu Superintendent of Police Bindu Mani said Sharanya’s family is being kept informed about all developments in the search operation. Officials noted that Tadiyandamol is not considered a very difficult trekking route, and trekkers usually find their way back to the foothill without much trouble. Despite this, there has been no trace of Sharanya so far, and teams are continuing to scan multiple locations in and around the hill.

Ultimately, turning to the internet, the employee asked if any of such work conditions are “normal”, along with sharing a screenshot of a memo from the organisation's HR department. “Is this normal? This is my first job,” the post concluded.

As soon as the Reddit post went viral, netizens began to react. Most suggested the employee leave the company, as they pointed out that the described work environment was “highly toxic”, while others dubbed most of the imposed rules "illegal".

Police identified the deceased as Shiva Sahu, a resident of Sundargarh district, Odisha.

It was during these proceedings that the main accused revealed a motive that gave the case a dramatic turn, reported news agency PTI.

Why They Planned the Murder

How the Crime Was Committed

On the night of March 10, the trio abducted Sahu and transported him across the state border into Jharkhand. They took him to the Tikra forest, where they strangled him to death using a rope. To conceal the crime, they poured petrol over the body and set it ablaze.

According to police, Princy lived with her mother and grandmother. A few weeks ago, she had brought a cat home. After that, she reportedly started suffering from cold and cough, which led her family to object to keeping the pet. This became a reason for frequent arguments in the house.

Officials reached the spot and shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital for a postmortem, as per NDTV report.

Hyderabad Student Dies by Suicide After Cat’s Death; Why Pet Loss Can Feel as Painful as Losing Humans

A 20-year-old woman in Hyderabad tragically took her own life shortly after her pet cat passed away. The young woman, a Bachelor of Science student, was deeply attached to her cat, and her family reported that she struggled to cope with the loss.

Hyderabad News: A 20-year-old woman died by suicide 30 minutes after her pet cat died. The incident took place in Hyderabad, where the woman was distraught over the passing of her pet, police said on Thursday. The incident has deeply disturbed her family, who told police that the deceased was very attached to the animal.

Several research papers and global studies have suggested that the grief following the death of a pet can feel similar to the loss of a human being. Such non-human relationships can push a person into deep sadness and a sense of emotional void. Hence, it becomes important to acknowledge and address the grief associated with the loss of a pet.

What Happened?
The 20-year-old woman was a Bachelor of Science (BSc) student. Her cat died on Wednesday morning, and about 30 minutes later, she consumed a poisonous substance at her home. The woman’s parents rushed her to a hospital, but she died while undergoing treatment, reported The Times of India.

Her parents told police that she took the extreme step as she was unable to cope with the death of her pet, though further investigation is underway.
A study by the National Library of Medicine states that the bond between a pet and its owner includes both physical and emotional dimensions, which can be severely affected by the death of a companion animal.
“It creates a feeling that life is left with a void and the house feels utterly empty. Unlike the loss of a child, spouse, or parent—which becomes a shared tragedy—others may not fully understand the depth of sadness experienced by a grieving pet owner. Emotional pain and physical distress due to the loss of a companion animal can be significant. A major challenge for the medical community is to anticipate, identify, and address these physical and psychosocial burdens in a timely manner,” the study noted.

How an LPG Booking Caught Ex-Army Captain Who Murdered His Wife

The Punjab and Haryana High Court police arrested Sandeep Tomar, a former Indian Army captain, who had evaded capture for nearly four years after being convicted of murdering his wife, Shveta Singh. He was found through a bank account linked to his PAN card used for booking an LPG cylinder.

An LPG cylinder booking helped Punjab and Haryana High Court police nab a convicted former Captain of the Indian Army, who had been on the run for almost four years after he was found guilty of killing his wife. Sandeep Tomar was arrested from Pandhurna district in Madhya Pradesh and was produced before a court, which sent him to judicial custody on Saturday, a police official said here on Tuesday.

Tomar was posted in Abohar in 2013 when he allegedly killed his wife, Shveta Singh. He initially attempted to describe the incident as suicide, but a detailed investigation later revealed it to be a planned murder, police said, according to PTI news agency.

The trial court convicted him and gave him life imprisonment in 2014, a verdict that was later upheld by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2022.
Tomar was granted bail in 2019, but did not surrender after the high court upheld his sentence in 2022.

How Convicted Ex-Army Captain Was Caught?

Since then, Tomar had been continuously changing his location and identity to evade arrest, police said. Tomar's father-in-law, Ram Naresh, moved the high court in 2024, demanding that he be arrested.
The high court later ordered that the Punjab Director General of Police should file an affidavit by April 8, explaining the steps taken to take Tomar into custody. The Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police then constituted a special investigation team (SIT), headed by an SP-rank officer, to arrest Tomar.

The breakthrough came when the Fazilka police traced a bank account linked to Tomar's PAN card, which he had used to book an LPG cylinder. Acting on this lead, police tracked his location to Madhya Pradesh, where he was finally apprehended, police said.

One of the officials from the investigation team said that Tomar's bank statement also revealed that he was getting LPG cylinder refills from an agency in Pandhura. The gas agency was contacted, and the delivery address was taken.
This information was shared with the Superintendent of Police, Pandhurna, and the convict was immediately nabbed by the local police, the police official said.
He was subsequently brought back to Fazilka and was produced in the court and sent to judicial custody.

A Kolkata man allegedly stabbed his wife to death in front of their minor daughter in the Kasba area in South Kolkata. The man was later arrested by the police while trying to flee the scene after committing the crime, according to a PTI report. According to the police, the arrested individual has been identified as Binod Singh.
Locals alleged that the accused frequently returned home in an intoxicated state and would demand money from his wife, Swapna Singh. If she refused to provide the money, he would create a disturbance in the house. Neighbours further alleged that he would often physically assault his wife.

Murdered for Rs 4000

According to their accounts, Binod returned home around 10.00 p.m. on Saturday. Upon entering the house, he immediately demanded Rs 4,000 from Swapna. However, his wife refused to give him the money. Enraged by this refusal, he began to create a scene, and after a short while, he left the house.

Local further said that Binod returned to the house again in the early hours of Sunday. After he repeatedly banged on the door, his daughter opened it for him. Swapna was asleep in the room. It is alleged that, without warning, Binod suddenly began stabbing his wife repeatedly in the abdomen with a knife.

Neighbours Rushed To Their House

Awakened by the woman's screams, neighbours rushed to the scene. They managed to apprehend the accused as he was attempting to escape. The neighbours then took the critically injured woman to the Chittaranjan Medical College and Hospital around 5.30 a.m. Swapna subsequently succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police confirmed that the incident was reported to the Kasba Police Station around 6.30 a.m. Upon receiving the information, police officers arrived at the crime scene.

Accused Detained; Investigation Underway

Binod was detained and taken to the police station, where he was subsequently formally arrested. Investigators gathered the full details of the incident from the deceased woman's daughter.
The police's preliminary assessment suggests that Binod attacked his wife with a knife as a result of domestic discord. However, the police are currently investigating whether there were any other underlying motives behind this incident.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a written complaint has been lodged by the deceased woman's family.

What Relatives Said?

A relative of the deceased woman told a section of reporters, "Binod did not earn a living. Swapna worked at a local establishment, and the household ran entirely on her earnings. However, Binod would frequently demand money from his wife. If she refused, he would create a scene.
Binod would even go to Swapna's workplace and cause a disturbance. Due to these repeated incidents, Swapna eventually lost her job."
A neighbour said, "Binod returned on Saturday night and once again created a scene over money. He demanded four thousand rupees, but Swapna refused to give it to him."

Bengaluru Man Beaten Until Bedridden for Salary; Gets Paid Hours Later

In Bengaluru, Jyothi R's husband, Ramegowda, a driver for Siddaganga Tours and Travels, faced violence from his employer after months of unpaid wages.

Bengaluru News: Jyothi R is a homemaker from Bengaluru. Her husband, Ramegowda, worked as a driver for a private bus company called Siddaganga Tours and Travels. He was the only earning member of the family and brought home a modest income. For several months, the company stopped paying Ramegowda his salary. He repeatedly asked his employer to clear his dues, as the family was finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. Instead of paying him, his employer allegedly responded with violence.

The Attack

On the evening of March 26, at around 6.30 pm, people from the management of Siddaganga Tours and Travels allegedly attacked Ramegowda. He did not tell his wife what had happened. For two days, he simply stayed in bed. Jyothi assumed he was ill. It was only when she checked his mobile phone that she discovered the truth. She immediately took him to KC General Hospital for treatment, reported Bangalore Mirror.

At 7.43 pm on the same evening of the assault - barely an hour after the attack - the company transferred Rs 15,000 to Ramegowda via UPI.

Police Reluctance

After learning of the assault, Jyothi went to Basaveshwaranagar Police Station to file a complaint. The police initially refused to register her case. She persisted, and they eventually recorded a First Information Report, or FIR. She also raised a serious concern - she alleged that the Hoysala police personnel removed her husband's blood-stained shirt, which was a key piece of evidence in the case.

When asked about this, the Police Inspector at Basaveshwara Nagar said he was unaware of the shirt being removed and promised to look into the matter. He confirmed that the accused had been granted station bail and that the investigation was ongoing.

Charges Filed

Police registered the FIR under three sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. These cover voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult.

The Family Today

Ramegowda continues to suffer from severe headaches following the assault. He is in no condition to return to work. Even if he recovers, Jyothi says he cannot go back to Siddaganga Tours and Travels. Jyothi is illiterate and is worried about her family's welfare with no income in sight. For now, Ramegowda has started looking for work as a domestic help.
Jyothi herself is illiterate and has no formal qualifications. With no income coming into the household, she has been forced to look for work as a domestic helper. She is deeply worried about what will happen to her family if she does not find employment soon.

Union Steps In

The president of the Indian Vehicles Drivers' Trade Union, Gandasi Sadanandaswamy, has stepped in to support the family. He is demanding that Siddaganga Tours and Travels pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation to Ramegowda for the assault.

Married At 14, Maharashtra Girl Dies By Suicide. Husband Arrested

The girl was subjected to mental and physical harassment and took the step after being driven to desperation by the abuse.

A 14-year-old girl ended her life in Mangalvedha Tehsil, in Maharashtra's Solapur district, just four months after she was forced into a child marriage with a 19-year-old man.

According to the police, the girl was married while still a minor and was subjected to mental and physical harassment. She took the step after being driven to desperation by the abuse.

The Mangalvedha Police have registered a case against five individuals, including the husband and father-in-law, on charges of abetting suicide. Both the husband and father-in-law have been arrested in connection with the investigation.

"A child marriage involving a 14-year-old minor girl took place in the Bavchi and Nimboni areas of Mangalvedha Tehsil," said Dattatray Borigidde, Police Inspector at Mangalvedha Police Station.

He added that the pressure of household responsibilities likely contributed to the tragedy. "Firstly, the girl was a minor, and secondly, she was forced to perform various household chores. Due to her young age, she likely could not bear the pressure. Subsequently, her husband had physical relations with her and instigated her. The physical and mental harassment she was subjected to drove her to commit suicide," he said.

"Taking serious cognisance of this matter, we have registered a case against five individuals. Currently, the husband and father-in-law have been arrested, and the court has remanded them to police custody. Our team is conducting further investigations," the inspector added.

In a separate complaint, advocate Hussain Owais S wrote to DG&IGP MA Saleem and Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, highlighting the case of "illegal marriage." The complaint named Sujat Ali, Hasan Raza, and Waqf Board member Mir Kaim (also referred to as Azan Jafari) among those who allegedly conducted or participated in the marriage.

It further stated that the marriage was held in violation of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and that any sexual relationship with the minor, even under marriage, would amount to rape as per the POCSO Act.

"It has also come to my knowledge from the general public that the girl may be pregnant, which can be confirmed only after a proper medical examination," it added.

Girl, 3, Dies After Falling From 12th Floor Of High-Rise Building In Maharashtra

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Tuesday when Anvika had gone to visit a relative's flat in A-3 Wing, Room 1202, located on the same floor

New Delhi:
A tragedy struck Navkar Phase One Society in Naigaon in Maharashtra's Palghar district, as a 3-year-old girl lost her life after falling from the 12th floor of a high-rise building.

The dead has been identified as Anvika Prajapati, a resident of Room 1201, B-1 Wing, where she lived with her parents.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Tuesday when Anvika had gone to visit a relative's flat in A-3 Wing, Room 1202, located on the same floor.

According to preliminary information, while playing, the toddler climbed onto a slipper stand placed on the balcony. In a tragic turn of events, she lost her balance and fell straight down from the 12th floor.

The balcony, where she accidentally climbed onto the slipper stand, reportedly had no protective grill, a critical lapse in safety.

Family members immediately rushed her to Sir D.M. Petit Hospital in Vasai, but doctors declared her brought dead. The entire society has been left in shock and mourning following the incident.

Residents allege that many balconies in the 14-storey towers of the society lack basic safety features such as protective grills. The absence of these safety measures is believed to be a major factor in this horrific accident. Residents say that if proper precautions had been taken in time, this young life might have been saved.

"This is a painful reminder of the importance of childproofing homes, especially in high-rise buildings. One moment of oversight led to a lifetime of grief," said a neighbour who witnessed the aftermath.

The atmosphere in the society is heavy with grief, and the incident has sparked widespread concern and anger among residents over the lack of mandatory safety infrastructure.

This has reignited conversations around the urgent need for child safety measures in high-rise housing societies.

Naigaon Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR), and further investigation is underway.

Policewoman Poisoned Cop Father's Milkshake. 3 Years Later, She Is Busted

On the morning in question, Arya mixed the poison into the milkshake and gave it to her father as he was preparing to go on duty.

Mumbai:
On the morning of April 25, 2023, Maharashtra police officer Jayant Ballawar, 45, prepared to leave home for duty as usual. His daughter Arya, herself a serving policewoman, handed him a milkshake. He drank it and set off. By the time he reached the administrative building of the District Magistrate's office in Chandrapur, he felt dizzy. He collapsed and died.

At the time, the cause of death was recorded simply as sudden illness. No criminality was suspected. The file was closed.

Three years later, the daughter and three others were arrested in what police now describe as a premeditated murder.

Arya Ballawar had been in a relationship with Ashish Shedmake since 2022. Jayant Ballawar opposed the relationship. According to the police, the couple decided to remove the obstacle. Arya contacted her cousin Chaitanya Gedam, 22, and paid him Rs 5,000 to obtain poison. A fourth person, whose identity has not yet been made public, supplied the substance itself.

On the morning in question, Arya mixed the poison into the milkshake and gave it to her father as he was preparing to go on duty. He consumed it and left. The symptoms appeared only after he reached the District Magistrate's office. Because the death appeared natural, no post-mortem was ordered at the time and the case was allowed to lapse.

After Jayant Ballawar's death, Arya and Ashish married. The marriage quickly soured. Ashish was dismissed from police training because of indiscipline and bad behaviour. Arya chose to continue living at her parents' house rather than move to her in-laws' home. The couple quarrelled repeatedly over these issues.

Last week, Ashish walked into the police station and confessed. He told officers that his wife had poisoned her father three years earlier, that the act had been planned in advance, and that the poison had come through her cousin.

Police arrested four people -- Arya Ballawar, her husband Ashish Shedmake, her cousin Chaitanya Gedam, and the fourth accused, who supplied the poison. All four are in custody.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
