Looks both shameless (tampering) and incredibly stupid (pros with decades of experience between them don’t know there are cameras?).

But props to the PCB for following procedure and punishing the guilty, although you could argue that Afridi was let off easy.

At least PCB has drawn a line in the sand that future players will know not to cross, or face punishment.

If Fakhar is categorically denying the allegation against him. Then it is very likely he's telling the truth. He would've accepted ball tampering if he did it.

Where's the evidence showing Fakhar tampering with the ball?

Yes, in the world of cricket it is. Umpire's are an authority figure and their decisions have a lot of weight on the cricket field. It's like a judge has rights in a court to hold other people for contempt just based on their own decision.

1) Umpire saw him and took the ball

2) As the picture above shows, the ball was clearly tampered
 
Fakhar should have been banned for 3 matches. As others have said its likely Shaheen and Haris knew but there is no real evidence. However, they should have handed Lahore a points deduction too to punish the whole team management.

Overall punishment is ok, those who are asking for life bans are having a laugh.

Behind the scenes, PCB should seriously look at Shaheen's status as a captain too.

If umpires were the judge then match referee wouldn't have to get involved. It's the referee who has the ultimate authority to take action against an act in a Cricket game. The umpires only have authority to make limited decisions within the ground. But that too they can abuse or misjudge.

Umpire's word is not an evidence. A judge word is not an evidence.

An umpire's decision is the result of their observation, not the evidence itself. The evidence is what happened (the ball hitting something). An umpire can make an error.

In a court, evidence is defined as testimony, documents, or physical objects produced for the inspection of the court. A judge's opinion or statement is not evidence; it is a ruling on the evidence.

Umpire's words carry a lot of weight and that's enough to hand over punishment as you saw here. The match referee concluded that the umpire didn't make an error

In the previous instance where fakhar was accused of tampering in the US match, umpires didn't see the incident, just the players did and Fakhar got away scot free even though the ball was altered and started reversing immediately

He has been doing it for a while and getting away with it.

Now you can make excuses and let another one of your stars go, as has happened throughout your cricket history, but the rest of the world will just judge you

Match referee makes decisions without evidence 🤔 ps: he is an ICC affiliated match referee and that too from Srilanka which makes him neutral.

PCB missed a trick here - should have fined Fakhar 2 crore PKR.
Now it’s only lurn for Fakhar with the ban punishment, but with the fine imposed, it would have been win for PCB and lurn for Fakhar at the same time.
 
If Fakhar doesn't challenge this, he will have to live with the stigma of being a cheat for the rest of his life.

lol nobody cares or remembers after a certain point. Does anyone remember Michael Atherton using dirt to scuff up the ball? Or du Plessis using his zipper and chewing gum to tamper with the ball? Smith and Warner's case was different because of how the Australian media and people reacted to it, and because of how coordinated it was, but 8 years later, nobody remembers that either.

And what is he going to gain from challenging it? The picture of the ball is like a smoking gun... its patently obvious the ball has been tampered with, with the fingernails. He should learn from his mistake and move on. He's not the first player to do something like this and certainly won't be the last.

I don't think Fakhar was the one who tampered with the ball. He only held the ball for 3 seconds and from the way he was holding it, it doesn't seem possible that he was the one who tampered with it. The real culprits are Shaheen and Rauf. Both these players are cancers on the team right now. PCB needs to do away with this duo and give more chances to other bowlers in the system.

Based on what are you saying that though? I'm going by what the umpires are saying because they are the official word on this on the field. I also don't recall every seeing anyone shine the ball like this. Seems like he is hiding his fingernails:

Admitting guilt will likely have triggered a series of events that implicates his team mates as the next question would be did the captain or bowler ask you to do it.

He can't answer yes to the questions. So would essentially be saying - I tampered the ball all by myself with no input from the bowler, or skipper, which would make his team mates look even worse.

Easier just to deny it and move on.
 
If u go by the older pics, Fakhar Zaman seems to be an expert ball temperer. Hides it very well lol

Show us his nails.

This Afridi umpire should be added to elite panel. Our local umpires are often afraid to take action in domestic cricket, this deserves praise

Honest based on what?

Back in 2010, many of us werent accepting amir to have done that because to us Amir was honest.

The honesty is not based upon you or me having known him personally, but its biased towards the performances. Good performances means good pr, thus we are not willing to believe that guy could cheat.

Someone with bad performances, we will take any news against him as truth.

Anyways, he tempered. Is guilty, not the end of his career.

Alot of people did go crazy cause of how CA handled their own case

Its nothing to do with league. Its more to do with the kind of bowler you have got.

Getting reverse swing is an art and you need to be able to pull it off with hard pace. Alot of teams do it until they get caught.

India dont do it, because they dont have such pacy bowlers and they dont use reverse swing as part of their strategy yet. I know they will take offense to the pace comment, but indian bowlers have shifted from line and length to seam. Bumrah gets swing due to the action he has got

For them to use reverse swing they would need to have to use Umran Malik for that. And they dont have that many Umran Maliks.

Thats not true. Zaheer Khan was bowling excellent reverse swing yorkers at 135 kph during 2011 World Cup ( just check out his dismissal of Andrew Strauss )

Also remember Bumrah & Arshdeep was getting so much reverse swing during 2024 World Cup that it led to Inzimam alleging that Indians wer using special balls 🤣🤣

Oh, they couldn't show the ball to tempered? Then how are these pics proving anything, if the ball never got affected?

You are dumb enough to talk in generic terms about evidence while I am taking about cricketing terms. In cricketing terms

1) umpires are the sole judge of tampering on field including deciding change of ball and penalty 5 runs

2) for after match punishment match referees consider umpire's testimony as primary evidence with a lot of weight

Now you can keep pretending that it's a court of law and not cricket field

He was accused by the US players in the Pakistan US match in the world T20 where US players saw him doing stuff to the ball under his shirt after ball was hit for 6. The ball also started reversing big time after that

But the umpires or the camera didn't catch it so he was not punished

Looks like he is a serial tamperer and has been assigned this role for his international and league teams

Surely Pakistan selectors need to keep this in mind , SSA & Rauf are complete duds who need unfair help to generate reverse swing, please bin them for the betterment of Pakistan cricket .

Pak fans aren't ready or willing to see these 2 go out and neither the selectors will be doing so either.

Pak's next gen aren't even willing to put in the hardyards needed to become an international cricketer.
 
To be honest, the incident itself wasn’t surprising. What stood out more was how Shaheen handled the question afterwards and rather than owning it, he ended up making himself look a bit foolish. That said, it was right after the match, so maybe he just didn’t want to get into it at that moment.

Why those accusations were not taken seriously during that match then? Umpires can determine from the ball condition and say ball has been tampered.

Looks like some people are serial accusers.
 
Shame on Shaheen for being such a cowardly captain that he just sidelined himself and let fakhar drown.... Shame

Nope. Umpire only gets to check the ball either after a wicket fall or after an over is bowled. So they cant determine if the ball was damaged by bouncing from the concrete, pitch or chairs.

Even in this case, the ball tempering charge wasnt laid immediately. The umpire saw the ball and than asked the third umpire to go through the footage and see if there is indication of someone doing something with the ball.

The scratches were there on the ball, and when video proof came, it back as the evidence

That is a very strange way to hold the ball in general, seriously who holds the cricket ball like that? he is clearly hiding his thumb which he uses to degrade the ball.

Back in the day, this is how everyone , especially fast bowlers, used to do it. They would do it in their run up with the left hand covering the right.

England's tampering techniques were the most sophisticated of the lot. Murray mints, vaseline, cream, dirt in the pockets etc.

In the case of England I think the Atherton one is the most famous because he got caught. He claimed he had dirt in his pocket to dry his hands lol.
