Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar on Saturday suspended two senior cops for failing to prevent the mob lynching of a man over blasphemy allegations in Nankana Sahib, a Punjab Police statement said.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Total madness!!! An angry mob attacked the police station in Nankana Sahib. Reportedly an accused of blasphemy was killed and body burnt by the mob. Apparently police was unable to control the situation. <a href="https://t.co/1kdNGFmqro">pic.twitter.com/1kdNGFmqro</a></p>— Shiraz Hassan (@ShirazHassan) <a href="https://twitter.com/ShirazHassan/status/1624324691778486272?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 11, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

The IG took notice of the incident as videos circulating on social media purportedly showed a violent mob outside a police station in Nankana Sahib. In one video, a violent mob can be seen scaling the large gates of what appeared to be the Warburton Police Station, and opening it, after which the rowdy crowd outside storms the building.

A second video showed young children — purportedly part of the mob — smiling inside the police station, as broken glass and overturned furniture could be seen strewn about.

“Punjab Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar has suspended Nankana Sahib Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police Nawaz Waraq and Warburton Station House Officer Feroz Bhatti,” the police statement said.

“No one is allowed to take the law into their hands no matter how influential they are,” the IG Punjab was quoted as saying.

“Strict departmental and legal action will be taken against those responsible for the incident and the perpetrators of negligence and negligence.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) chairman Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi condemned the incident, saying it was regrettable the way the charged mob attacked the blasphemy accused.

“Inhuman torture and killing the person, accused of blaspheming the Holy Quran in #Nankana Sahib and attacking at the police station is regrettable and condemnable. - Pakistan Ulema Council,” Ashrafi said in a tweet.

PDM also losing this battle.

Started because pti allowed the army to use tlp and fund its khatam e nabowat ideology that spread like hell fire. This is years damage

No Sorry won't work.

This is happening on PDM's watch. What happened in the past is gone now. PDM have all the power they want and they are too busy destroying our economy and do not have time to handle normal domestic matters.

Shame on them.

how is it gone? During the govt of pti all we saw fans say repairing the damage of 20 years whenever pti would mess up.

Blasphemy is an an ideological issue, ideologies dont form in a month or 2. They take years of mismanagment to form. Imran tried to make the state go towards theology, he allowed the army to misuse the tlp and this is the result.

Pakistan has been more protective of the finality of the prophethod during Imrans govt due to the TLP. THe TLP were able to broadcast their msg widely which was to kill anyone who they taught violated the respect of the Prophet.

The buck stops with the people in charge as you have explained to us many times before. PDM is in charge so its responsible.

In the coming days, I will expect our dear FM who is on another air-miles earning trip to make his progressive party's position clear on this as well.

Shame to blame this on PDM.

This is a deep rooted plague within our nation.

It's not just the fault of PTI, PDM or anyone else.

It is due to the cancer of extremism and NOBODY is brave enough to take it on.

so you expect the FM to sit in the country? Different job descriptions. FM is not suppose to conduct the business of the Interior Minister...

Unless our FM was a PIR who has to protect his gaddi nasheen.

This current govt is a collection of parties. PPP is a major player and the fact that he is FM is not because he was the best in the country but because PPP needed to be given a piece of the pie.

He therefore holds the same weight in this regime as Sharifs and their cronies.

He therefore is well within his rights to stand up and be counted - if he wants to and if he is genuinely interested.

The criteria of the best in the country was never ever followed. Asad Umar failed at Engro and was made the finance head here which he also failed.

If you want to use the criteria of the best being made, than that way, the politicians who were part of hte bureacracy would be given such posts, yet they were not. Heck, Imran never held a proper minster post, yet he was given the PM seat....

Ok so we are saying that we have an incompetent FM at the helm of that department, I agree with that.

That will explain a few things.

If such incidents of beheading
someone for blasphemy/alleged blasphemy can happen in India under Modi then what can any government in Pakistan do if things go out of control ?

I think you are focusing on the wrong point here.

When the law order and the criminal justice system is based on might is right then you have these incidents.

Pakistan go out of their way to punish the blasphemers while nobody protests against the illegal government that is currently installed. If only the people protested against real issues rather than beating such soft targets.

Something like this doesn't surprise me, world's second largest banana republic.

Why do Pakistanis never show such violence against cruel feudal lords, child rapists, murderous bandits, inhumane tribal lords or corrupt and filthy politicians? Because Pakistanis only pick on the weak!

Another shameful day in our shameful and bloodstained history. When people say only a small fraction of Pakistanis are brainwashed and extremists, I laugh and get annoyed. Pakistan is the only nation on the planet whose majority is rightwing!

I am looking for condemnations from our politicians at the moment.

Maybe there is good reason for a thread why Pakistan isn't a lost cause. Or is fundamentalism true future of Af Pak region. I can fully understand why TTP doesnt respect Pakistan sovereignty. Because they see traction of their ideas in large section of the awaam.

That is correct.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that it is impossible to promote human rights without giving equal rights to women.

According to a statement issued by Bilawal House Media Cell on Sunday, the PPP chairman, in his message on National Women’s Day, extended greetings to the entire nation, including all the mothers, sisters and daughters of Pakistan, saying that this day “is a symbol of Pakistani women’s struggle for democracy and resistance to dictatorship”.

Bilawal said that Pakistani women were a metaphor of unparalleled bravery, great talent and indomitable courage, adding that the Madar-e-Millat Fatima Jinnah, Madar-e-Jamhooriat Begum Nusrat Bhutto and late Benazir Bhutto were role models for the world.

“It is a matter of pride for me that Pakistan Peoples Party is the only party in the country which has been led by two women,” he said.

Bilawal said that the Constitution of 1973 guaranteed equality, representation, protection and equal opportunities for development of women in Pakistan.

The PPP chairman assured the Pakistani women that his party fully supported their every struggle to end all forms of discrimination and exploitation.

Uh oh - maybe didnt read the news?

PM's Special Representative for Interfaith Harmony Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi on Sunday said the government should conduct a thorough probe into the disappointing incident of lynching a person in Warburton, Nankana Sahib and take stern action against the real culprits behind the scene.

Ashrafi, in a video message, said the lack of adequate knowledge of Shariah was causing such nuisances in society.

Ashrafi said the man, who was accused of desecrating the Holy Quran, was a Muslim and must have been awarded punishment in the light of the Constitution instead of killing him ultra vires.

He urged the judiciary to make this an exemplary case, penalising the people allegedly involved in this heinous crime within a period of one month at the same place.

Nobody will speak on it. Hard truth is that this barbarism now has major ground support. In case of SL employee, it was an international matter and the politicians had no choice. But these lynchings and killings are par for course now to a point that they can actually capture the whole thing on camera and not fear consequences.

So maybe this now uncodified way of things. If I accuse you blasphemy I can beat you to death. In 1960s Afghanistan looked very different from how it looks now. It will make sense to keep all footage of Pakistan available today. In few years, we will also be doing a "before" and "after". Actually we can already do this. Before and after Zia. From a potential modern Islamic republic to radicalized mob.

He is foreign minister, not interior minister

He is foreign minister, not interior minister

Like I sad before, he is happy to make statements on IK etc but cannot (does not have the guts) to make a statement about this issue.

What does that tell you about him?

Even Afghans don't do these mob lynchings, taliban are more banday nay putter when it comes to these matters.

This is a culture unique to barelvis and their Hindu far right saffron cousins

Those who can leave, should try and leave Pakistan as soon as possible. Pakistan is on its way to become another North Korea, both socially and economically. The only blessing for Pakistan is that the people who are running the country are so incompetent that they won’t be able to pull of what the Nazis or North Koreans have be able to do in a systematic manner. So yes, there is no future for Pakistan.

The Nankana Sahib police arrested 60 suspects involved in the lynching of a man outside the police station on Saturday morning.

Several police teams launched a massive crackdown at the residences, business points, and other places to round up the suspects.

Sheikhupura Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa said some 17 suspects/attackers have been nominated in the FIR.

He said the police were very clear in its action against the attackers whether they were from any religious organsation or a political party.

These people are seriously sick. Now just wait for IK to tell us that it's the culture of Pakistan or something stupid like that! These madrassa illiterates play judge and jury even if "blasphemy" is mentioned without even allowing any investigation. First punish all of them if we want justice.

This is not limited to barelvis only. This is more or less the whole Pakistani culture.
