His Raina type alligator arm scoop shots are concerning... Neverthless an exciting prospect...
 
He can get quick starts 20-30 runs with fours and sixes.but finishing an innings or playing according to situation is not present in him right now.hope he learns
 
Needs to develop his off side play a bit.

I expect better game awareness from him in future

The_ outsider bhai doesn't seem to be online these days but not sure how can someone be not ready for 50 overs-game but doing well in tests and Pants game suits for LOs more than anything else.

Bumrah and Pant both once thought to be LOI specialists have taken to test cricket like ducks to water. What a great thign for Indian cricket! The kids seem to be enjoying the one true format.

One of the fastest evolved batsman i have seen. He looked like a leg side hack not long ago. The adaptation is breath taking. It would take many years for many people to adapt.

He is the next Gilchrist and I am not making an emotional statement. Gilly is a freaking legend but Pant is so young and brought up in the best system to hone his batting further. 2 100s in Eng/Aus by a 20 year old keeper, how often does that happen? Keeping will improve with time, he is any day better than the alternatives.

Hope to see Pant, Kuldeep, Shaw, Mayank, Gill, Bumrah all feature in our test team in 2019. This time our generational transition should be much smoother unlike the 2011-13 days.

He was never a legside hack. He was always good player all around the wicket. I have watched two of his ranaji innings. His problem is/was that he is young and very inexperienced and lacks temperament. Throughout the last six matches almost every time he got out was due to his lack.of patience. None of the Australian bowlers hurried him through the series and he got consistent starts. He just threw his wicket away in search of glory like how any young inexperienced player would do. Agarwal did the same thing by the way.
 
Keeping needs work. After watching Saha the past few years, slightly amusing to see so many drops by the Indian keeper.
 
Give him some time and he can improve his keeping I feel. He is 21, which is a huge advantage. If he can become a complete player by 25, that's great.
 
Brilliant brilliant talent. Always said that. Only reason our fans don't rate him is because of his nationality. If you don't rate him, you don't know what talent is.
 
Just 21 & a hugely exciting prospect . He needs to hone his keeping skills a bit & if he can reach the Saha level as far as keeping goes , we have someone who would be a Champ for next 10-12 years easily .

The post you quoted mentions clearly that if he doesn't improve quickly he will be dropped. May be he has improved but I don't know why he was dropped from the ODI team? :inti

Its not the runs he scored, but the way he scored them. Its clear he is not a tullaybaz or a hack.

Also Pant didnt got dropped from ODIs due to non performance :facepalm:

He is the best performing wicket keeper in the country at the moment along with Karthik. But we all know pretender will play the world cup. Since selectors/captain/bcci no one has guts to drop Thalaiva, he might as well be included in the team to get enough practice before world cup. When Thalaiva will get humiliated in world cup and will be booted out, Pant will be regular in the squad.
 
He always had the talent but this innings showed his maturity and poise. Dropped a dolly later but he's a work in progress and seems to learn fast. Should have been in the ODI squad. Amazing find for India!!!

So 2 centuries already in SENA country (Eng and SA) is a mark of tulleybaazi? And he has not even played 10 tests yet. Educate us why you think he is a tulleybaaz?
 
Nobody is denying Saha is a better WK. But it is not that he was perfect. Two instances Saha cost India that comes to mind are dropping Chandimal of Ishant at Galle 2015 and missing 2 catches and a stumping of Stokes at Rajkot 2016. I have seen others as well. The point is everyone need time to improve and it can't be done from outside. Also Pant is better than Saha in batting.

I stay consistent with my views and it is my personal opinion that he is a tullaybaaz. One good performance against a depleted Australian side when India were already in a good position may make you blind but not me.

It is also my personal opinion that fans like you who hype players up to the moon are the first ones to move away from them. KL Rahul and his fans are the best example. :inti

What depleted Australian side? They are playing their full strength bowling attack. Explain us, why you personally consider him as tulleybaaz? You must hv seen something to base your opinion, right? Explain us that.

IPL really is transforming test careers of cricketers. Jos buttler said as much . Possibly Rishabh pant would credit it as well. Best league in the world for sure .
 
The good thing for him is he got this - score overseas - monkey off his back so early in his career.
But his keeping is really poor.
He has to go to the NCA Bengaluru where must be having some international facilities or seek some counsel from his coaches.

Also, hope success does not go to his head - now that he tasted success at international level.

I have seen fans here calling Dhoni names and other bad stuff this is nothing in front of that. You have to prove here that I badmouth every indian cricketer now.

Thats what we wanted to know....on what basis your opinion is based that he is a tulleybaaz? You cant hide simply saying its my opinion, there must be some cricketing nuances to back your opinion. Unless, your opinion is based on some personal non cricketing prejudice.

You go after each and every young Indian players. You did the same for KL Rahul, made Pandya's life hell during Eng tour and now you are behind Pant. All these are young players who will fail sometime and someday will get runs

Calling a 20 year old batsman tulleybaaz who already got 2 centuries in SENA is bad mouthing. It may not be a slang but sounds in bad taste when you use it against young players. I dont care about who else uses it against whom in this forum, but dont repeat it again pls.

The dropped catch of Khwaja really stinks. Pant may be good enough as a batsman to be included in the team as a specialist bat if his catching doesn't improve. Dropped catches are devastating to the morale of the bowlers.

In your post above you said I badmouth all indian young cricketers here. Where did I badmouth Pandya and KL Rahul? I criticised them and their performances. And I am not sure about making the life of Pandya a hell but surely it seems I did make some of his fans life hell here.
 
As far as i am concerned Pant has earned himself a place in the middle order purely as a batsman alone. His wicket keeping is added bonus. If at any point India feels they cannot compromise in keeping they can still bring in a specialist keeper without dropping Pant.

Dhoni is old and non performing. You just need to check his avg in last 3 years. So he is being criticized correctly. No one disagree here about Dhoni's legendary status.

But KL, Pandya and Pant are all young players. Being an Indian supporter, you need to support them than being critical after each and every failure. When they fail, you blame IPL. And when they play well (like Pant did today), you still call him tullebaaz.

I called Pant a tullaybaaz even before he played in your beloved IPL so that's a fail for you.

KL Rahul is already done and dusted from the test team for the time being. I still believe he can make a comeback. He should have been dropped after the england tour but that didn't happen.

As far as Pandya is concerned we are forced to believe that he is the best allrounder in the world which he is not.

Pant can play proper strokes. He's no tullaybaaz. He has scored a ton each in England and Australia on his very first tours and averages 49 or so with the bat in test cricket which is extremely good for a WK/bat. We need more tullaybaazi players like him . Don't know why some are so intent on putting him down :srini

First of all I have no love for IPL, not sure from where you are getting it. Its a well known fact that I rate test cricket the pinnacle of sport. Also, I thought we are discussing test cricket....so the only person bringing IPL here is you bcoz you are not able to respond any question correctly.

Pant has a brilliant record playing for Ranji, India A and U19 world cup. He is now making his mark in test cricket with 2 centuries already in SENA which Dhoni failed to achieve in his entire career. Mike Hussey was comparing him with Gilchrist (that is exaggeration agreed). Hence I am asking it, what is the cricketing reason (personal vendetta aside) that made you call hin tullebaaz?

No one has said Pandya is the world's best all rounder. But he is someone who has got tremendous potential. And in his short career he has already shown glimses why he can be a top cricketer in future. Defending w runs off 3 balls in pressure cooker world cup stage, playing a brilliant innings in Champions trophy final, 91 against SA in a minefield, 5 wicket haul in Eng etc etc. So its obvious people in India realizes his potential and supports him.

As far as Rahul is concerned, his batting has detoriated. And most Indian fans are still finding the reason of such a downfall. He had shown tremendous potential until 2017 and we had huge expectation from him but his downfall has made us (sensible Indian fans) sad and surprised. But somehow, you used Rahul's dip in form as a weapon of whataboutery in Pakpassion. :facepalm:

Think twice before posting rubbish against young players like that. Else you will be called out everytime by all Indian fans like today.

Talent need not always translate into performances. It just doesn't work likr that. Now you can call for the axing if a player for lack of performances but to say that KL Rahul does not have talent in the first place and to say that Pant is a tullaybaaz is at best your subjective opinion and I respect that. But tullaybaazi players dont average 49 in test cricket. He's only the best WK/batsman in world cricket now. Can't expect him to do better than that. Unless of course you don't accept anyone who's not as good as Gilchrist.

Where did I say KL Rahul doesn't have talent? I wanted KL Rahul to be dropped so that he gets a kick on his backside and comeback as a better player. I wanted that to happen after the england tour but it seems we are hell bent on carrying him to every tour. His ODI form has also suffered due to that.

Don't take a u-turn now. You clearly said I badmouthed all indian young players. You listed three players and I only called one of them a tullaybaaz. Not sure in which language that is called badmouthing. You are just going round and round but not listing out those players names. Just accept you were trolling and apologize. That will do for now.

Is there a rule in the book that states that tulleybaaz cannot bat well in test cricket at number 06?He is still better than Dhoni...
 
Pakistan could do with an aggressive keeper like Pant. India have a gem on their hands. Very good find and will only get better with experience just needs to cut out the rash shots but that will come with experience.
