What a fall from grace for BBL...

There was a brief time (2014-17) when it was closing in on the IPL and many even considering it the best T20 league in the world with all it's glitz and innovation and big crowds. But now, it just looks a pale shadow of what it was back then.

Terrible standards! Barely better than the LPL.

Terrible standards! Barely better than the LPL.

Still it generate huge crowds n enough cash 4 CA.....And bo board has dare to host it's premier t20 completion side by side with international test cricket.......a big thumbs up......and last but not least Big Bash is the only premium t20 league where local players are given chances .....not only Australia but
Throughout the globe......nonetheless it's marketing and presentation is top notch

Really, exactly what bits makes it a pale shadow?

A lot of bits actually...

Player quality (both domestic and Foreign)
Way longer duration (a big jump from 8 games to 14 games per team)
Attendances
TV viewership
Channel Seven's inferior broadcasting and commentary standards to Ten.
CA's marketing of the league in the last few years......

I'm sure i'm missing a few here.

Amazing fielding by Jordan Silk!

Very excited for Jake Fraser-McGurk, apparently a very good prospect and he’s been performing as a limited overs bat since his U16 days.

What an effort by Hilton Cartwright - dropped the catch in the end but amazing!

KFC Big Bash League statement
Brisbane Heat players Chris Lynn and Dan Lawrence have been permitted to play in tonight’s KFC Big Bash League match against Sydney Thunder despite coming into close contact with members of the public.

Lynn and Lawrence will be required to maintain a physical distance from other players and match officials during the match, as per league protocols.

Both players have returned negative COVID-19 tests since Saturday.

Cricket Australia is investigating the circumstances under which Lynn and Lawrence came into close contact with members of the public on Saturday, including the extent to which this represents a breach of league protocols.

“It is important we maintain the integrity of the bio-secure hub to ensure the safety of the public, players, staff and officials and minimise issues associated with travel between state borders during the tournament,” said Sean Carroll, CA’s Head of Security and Integrity.

“While we are fortunate to live in a country with a low rate of infection compared with many other parts of the world, we are still in the midst of a global pandemic and, as we’ve seen on a number of occasions in Australia, COVID-19 breakouts and border closures remain a genuine risk.

“We are always monitoring the public health situation and attempting to strike the appropriate bio-security balance between keeping everyone safe on both sides of the hub and providing as much freedom as possible for those within it.

“We appreciate that this has been a challenging year for everyone, but we must insist on our bio-security measures being respected and followed so as not to jeopardise public health and safety or the viability of the tournament.”

John Orchard, CA’s Chief Medical Officer, said the physical distancing required of Lynn and Lawrence in tonight’s match had been successfully achieved during BBL practice matches and Premier Cricket fixtures where there were match participants both inside and outside Hub isolation protocols.

“We’re confident this will be successfully achieved again tonight at Manuka Oval,” Orchard said. “They must maintain a physical distance on and particularly off the field (indoors) with teammates, opposing players, staff and match officials. We have protocols in place for all matches for interaction between those inside and outside the hub.”

“Factors including the outdoor nature of the contest, the generally socially-distanced nature of cricket on-field and the fact Canberra is considered a low-risk city support the conclusion that both can play tonight without posing a meaningful risk.”

Brisbane Heat and players Chris Lynn and Dan Lawrence have been sanctioned under the CA Code of Conduct following the completion of an investigation into an incident in Canberra on Saturday, December 12.

Brisbane Heat has been fined $50,000, with $20,000 suspended for the remainder of the KFC BBL|10 season for a breach of sections 1, 3, 4 and 9 of the COVID-19 Directive for State Associations and W/BBL Teams.

Lynn and Lawrence have each been issued a report and notice of charge under section 2.23 of the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct, relating to conduct that either (a) is contrary to the Spirit of Cricket; (b) is unbecoming of a representative or official; (c) is or could be harmful to the interests of cricket; or (d) does or could bring the game of cricket into disrepute. Both players have accepted a $10,000 fine, with $4,000 suspended for the remainder of the BBL|10 season.

Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity & Security, said:

“The Code of Conduct charges issued today relate to alleged breaches of protocols that are in place in order to protect our players, officials, staff and the wider community.

“Potential COVID-19 hotspots and related impacts on State borders remain a challenge for the league and it is imperative that all protocols are adhered to, giving us the best opportunity to move around the country and execute the full schedule.”

“While Australia’s current COVID-19 infection rate remains low, we must ensure that appropriate measures are taken to reduce the possibility of any player, staff member or official being connected to a declared hot spot. State/Territory Governments enforced isolation and restrictions for crossing borders for declared hot spots may impact the individuals involved, the team and potentially jeopardise the BBL season.

“Medically, this particular breach was lower risk, but actions of this kind have the potential to compromise the integrity of and confidence in our bio-security protocols.

“We’d like to thank Queensland Cricket, the Brisbane Heat, the ACA and both players for their cooperation throughout this investigation.”

Peter Siddle's Twenty20-best figures set Adelaide Strikers on the way to a five-wicket win over Hobart Hurricanes in a match where 'X-Factor' substitutes were used for the first time.

Siddle's 5-16 helped dismiss the Hurricanes for 146, which the Strikers chased with eight balls to spare.

After 10 overs of the Hurricanes' innings, both teams made a change.

Hobart brought in Macallister Wright for Johan Botha, while Adelaide introduced Matt Short for Danny Briggs.

In rules introduced this season, teams can make a change after 10 overs of the first innings, providing the player replaced has not batted or has not bowled more than one over.

Having been reduced to 20-3, the Hurricanes opted for batsman Wright over the spin of veteran Botha.

Warwickshire left-arm spinner Briggs, in his first Big Bash campaign, conceded 15 runs from his only over and gave way to spin-bowling all-rounder Short.

Ben McDermott and Colin Ingram made 46 apiece in a Hurricanes recovery that came either side of the substitution, only for 36-year-old former Australia seamer Siddle to take four wickets in nine balls at the end of the innings.

Sussex's Phil Salt was one of two Adelaide batsmen to fall to James Faulkner in the first over of the reply, before Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey added 107 for the third wicket.

Carey perished for 55, but Weatherald was unbeaten on 68 when the Strikers completed victory.

The fielding alone makes it worth a watch it is simply outstanding and then in contrast you look at the comedy from guys in LPL/IPL, Natwest Blast and BBL best leagues across all facets of the game by a mile

Dan Christian smashed the second-fastest half-century in Big Bash history to propel Sydney Sixers to a 38-run victory over Adelaide Strikers.

Christian reached 50 from only 15 balls in Hobart to help lift the defending champions to 177-5.

The 37-year-old then struck with the ball, removing Sussex's Phil Salt for 28 to end a rapid start to the chase.

Adelaide ended on 139-7, with Carlos Brathwaite, Steve O'Keefe and Ben Manenti taking two wickets each.

The Strikers at least take the Bash Boost point for having the better score after 10 overs, while the Sixers climb to third, three points behind leaders Hobart Hurricanes with a game in hand.

Christian's assault was all the more remarkable given the struggles his team-tames had experienced earlier against the moving ball.

The Sixers were 58-3 after one ball of the 12th over when Christian arrived at the crease, only for the man who captained Nottinghamshire to the T20 Blast title in the past summer to belt five sixes and four fours.

The only faster half-century in the BBL is the 12-ball 50 smashed by Chris Gayle for Melbourne Renegades against the Strikers in 2016.

Although Salt and Jake Weatherald gave Adelaide a flying start, they were tied down in the middle overs by the off-spin of Manenti, the experience of left-arm spinner O'Keefe and the tricks of Christian, who took 1-25 from his four overs.
