[VIDEOS] Mohammad Rizwan the batsman

Might be the worst performance by a batsman I've seen in an ODI series. Average of 8.33 at a SR 41.66. Against Zimbabwe. And he was batting mid order where it should be easier to get a start.

He's looked absolutely horrific in ODIs bar that Australian series. Like he doesn't even know how to bat. And yet it is mind boggling how a guy who can score two centuries against Australia can bat like this. The other batsmen are bad, but Rizwan looks a mile worst than the rest.

I'd perhaps gamble on him opening, hopefully he can do something up the order. But performing like what he is, it sucks the life out of the batting line up.

The problem is Rizwan is not a LO batsman. He is fine for test. People love bringing up those two centuries against Australia, but both matches they lost. One of those matches he should have got the team over the line, but choked. People also fail to realize that wasn't even Australia's main team. That was their B team. Starc didnt bowl that whole series. The one match Cummins bowl, he got Rizwan out for a duck. You can't adjust the batting lineup for Rizwan when you have better options to play in the top 4.
 
Look to be a good batsman in Tests.

Should never be selected in a T20 squad even for an A team.
In ODI'S, he also seems to be not good enough, would like someone else to be given a chance.

I was 50/50regarding his position in the team but he needs to be given 1 or 2 more series but essentionally 2023 he isnt in my team long term
 
The biggest issue in this series has been the lack of intent to score runs which is contrary to what was displayed in domestics and tests. In international limited overs cricket, technique is over rated and the modern era requires the attacking intent and temperament. He should be looking to score boundaries and singles like he does in domestic and he will be successful in international Odis too. T20 has never been his fort so forget T20 but I still believe he is the only Pakistani wicket keeper rn who can score a hundred batting at No. 4 in Odi. And the biggest plus is that he is the best wicket keeper in Pakistan.
While I know many posters are happy either because they never rated him and now they are right but as a Pakistani I would advise them that Rizwan performing in international odis and tests just like domestics will give more balance to the team in the next World Cup. Sarfraz Ahmed was wonderful back in 2015-2017 and nobody denies that. But since 2017, Sarfraz's batting has been in decline and not worthy of international cricket. However his T20 captaincy was top notch and he did not deserve to be moved out of the T20 team. Understand it sooner or later otherwise our own prayers against our own players and team will not help anybody.

He looks the only vialabe option
 
A very poor series with the bat, but too early to talk about kicking him out.

He deserves more chances.
 
Have always said to keep Rizwan to tests, and groom someone else for the LOIs. There are far too many situations for which Rizwan isn't suitable for ODI and T20I formats.
 
Should get a longer run. His 2 centuries against Australia means he's already achieved more than any replacement can dream of for the time being.

Yes I agree hes not in my squad for the 2023 world cup but he should be given 1 or 2 more series before we move on
 
I will stick with Rizwan in ODIs till 2023 WC even if he fails again because I trust his List A stats, he will announce himself for sure, it is just a matter of time. We need to be patient with him.

I will stick with him in ODIs while giving Rohail T20s and occasional dead rubber ODIs. I will then leave it to Rohail to knock the door down - based on that, one will make it to 2023.
 
The whole forum/country is in meltdown because this wasteman who was batting at number 5, a serious batting position for a responsible player could not produce a single performance that would enable Pakistan to walk through to a simple 3-0 Whitewash.

Babar Delivered
Harris Delivered
Wahab Delivered

Good news is there are a lot of T20s between now and our next ODI series. I am fairly confident Rohail will prove himself to be a better white ball cricketer by then. If not, then Rizwan really is our best option and we’ll have to play him in ODI’s as specialist keeper.

This guy not taking responsibility as a senior player and wannabe captain has exposed all of our youngsters to the wolves ready to feast on their inexperience.

Tell me, how can anyone have the gall to criticise our younger talent when the senior cricketers who we expect much more from are letting the team down? I’m sick of reading posts such as “let’s accept we are mediocre”, and the talent has dried up.
 
I back Rizwan and think that he needs to be persisted with, but not scoring a 50 or 100 against a very weak bowling attack like Zimbabwe, has got me worried about his ability to score runs against a stronger side. Rizwan looked like a tailender against Zimbabwe.

Let me give you a fair example.

If England are to play India, Australia or New Zealand in a T20i or ODI series and either one of Roy or Bairstow is injured, they will not go back to selecting Hales but instead will back their young gun Tom Banton to play the series instead. If someone like Root, Malan, Morgan or Stokes is injured/unavailable, they will try to give players like Ollie Pope or Sam Curran a chance in the middle order.

Be it Banton, Pope, Curran, Saqib Mahmood as the bowler...the weight of expectation and pressure on these cricketers is NOTHING. They can play a whole series and fail throughout, but the management or fans will not once throw them under the bus. However, England will still win more than they will lose with these younger players in the side because the weight of expectations and responsibility lays on the senior players such as Stokes, Butler, Bairstow, Archer etc.

I have no issues with the experiments Misbah and Waqar were trying. I have no issues with Musa Khan going for 200 in his quota of 10 overs. I have no issues with Haider Ali getting out for 5 golden ducks in a row. I dont care if Khushdil Shah bats at a strike rate of 60 whereas he should be going at 120. I do however have an issue with the likes of Babar Azam, Harris Sohail and Wahab Riaz who have played serious, serious cricket bottling and not contributing to the side.

In the case of Rizwan, I dont like him as an ODI player, but I do not deny that he has the ability to stand and bat with character. He has displayed that he can. You cannot, in fact no one can argue that this guy is not experienced enough or senior enough to not be considered one of our more mature cricketers. It is unnaceptable in this case that he abandoned his side's batting 3 times in a row! The result is clear for everyone to see. Wrist slitting, doom and gloom.

Thats the problem with Rizwan, kachra can't rotate the strike to save his life and can't even score at home against weak oppositions. How do you expect him to score against top teams? Before anyone brings up his 2 centuries against Australia in UAE, first look at the bowling attack and overall team. That was Australia's B team. Mitchell Starc didnt play a single game, and the one game Cummins played he got Rizwan out for a duck.

Sarfaraz is not the answer, and rushing Rohail is not a good idea when his keeping is not as good while his batting is more “modern” but still a question mark. Easy solution is to let Rohail play the next 6-8 T20s until our next ODI series. If he shows himself to be a good white ball cricketer at international level, we can return to the discussion and potentially promote him to ODI cricket.

But yes you’re right in that Rizwan’s failure to cash in against Zimbabwe is a bit of a worry!

What’s wrong with this guy? He can bat. He stays still in his crease. He has a lovely pick up on the short ball or anything angling towards leg. He is left handed which is useful at number 6-7. Decent List A strike rate of 95+

A bit low on the average but I wouldn’t mind that if we are using him as a wicket keeper who bats at 7.

He’s the solution for the 2021 world cup, and I would have picked him. I’m just going off of Misbah’s selections of Rizwan and Rohail which indicate Zeeshan isn’t in his plans.

If the next selector brings Zeeshan in, that would be good.

I'm sure a lot of people will have a problem that he is too dark, and not as fair as Rizwan. It is sad to see on this forum how posters are concerned on how a cricketer looks instead of how they perform.
 
A future captain. Oozes talent, ability and class.

I have a feeling he's a little overconfident if anything. If he dials the clever shots down a bit, keeps it simple and works to an actual game plan he'll become the best keeper/batsman Pakistan have ever produced.

Rizwan just needs to keep the ball on the ground and keep the scoreboard ticking.

Rohail is rubbish in T20s, averaging only 17. There is no better option than Rizwan at the moment.
 
He is good in tests, not so much in LOIs. I know there are posters who think he is the best keeper batsman in the world, but I disagree. Currently, these are better kepper-batsmen than him in

Tests: QDK, BJ Watling, Buttler (maybe Buttler and Rizwan are at same level)
ODIs: Buttler, Bairstow, QDK, Latham, Dickwella, KL Rahul, Pooran
T20s: Buttler, Bairstow, QDK, KL Rahul, Dickwella, Latham, Carey, Pooran

Pak should find a better keeper-batsman for LOIs.

I have honestly not seen a more suited T20i batsman in Pakistan who is below 30. You can always go for the safer option of Kamran Akmal if you like? We all know that on ability he is far superior than Rizwan

Zeeshan Ashraf is a hack who cannot keep. Unless you want failures on top of dropped catches and missed stumpings then sure let's get Zeeshan Ashraf.

Zeeshan is a sitting duck against pacers in domestic cricket, he wont last three balls in international

I have seen better wicket keepers in club cricket then him Heck even imam looked better then zeeshan. That specific poster hates Rizwan. He was talking about quality going down if Rizwan selected but it's already down when you have Walton who averages 3 and 6 in tests and odi lol.

You may have a fairer judgement through what you may have seen in domestic cricket. But from what I have seen in the PSL and also in Yesterday’s game and the play off I didn’t see much wrong with his keeping. However he should have nailed a better score in both games than getting a start and giving his wicket away.

Look man, nothing is stopping KK to play Rizwan as a batsman only tomorrow if he really is that good.

I don't claim that he is so good. All I am saying he better then the options we have. Rizwan him self is awful t20 player so imagine the others. Zeeshan is a club level wicket keeper the less said about Akmal the better.

Good knock. Par score here is 200, keep in mind, and he was 50(40) before compensating for it.

You will always play your first 10 balls but will not always get to play balls 40-60 of your innings.

Can he do the same shots before he is “set”, coming in at 5? What about on grounds with bigger boundaries?

That being said, good core stability for the power game, if I remember correctly he credits Razzaq for this improvement.

His 50(40) was partly due to the role he was given by the team as he was covering for Babar in the anchor role. Strategy was for him to try to bat till the end and a long batting lineup around him to keep pushing the game. After he established the base for the team, he went for his shots and that is where we saw his power game.

When Babar is back, how well can he shift gears with a changed intent will have to be seen but decent signs.

Really like this guy. Backed him since day one.

Pretty skeptical about having him partner Babar at the top in T20s but he's deserved it for now.

Also, I'd have him open the side in ODIs.
 
One of the best T20 innings by any batsmen in SENA conditions and the best by any Pakistani wicket keeper. He is making a habit of scoring in these countries against the best bowling attacks
 
Babar and rizwan should not open even after this innings.but he played his role well today

Rizwan is a gem of a player for our pathetic standards. Top class keeper and a decent, serviceable batsman.

He will be the undisputed first-choice WK across all three formats for many years to come.

He seems to be one of the very few Pakistani players who is not an age-fudger, or perhaps not to a significant extent.

He should be able to maintain this level for 5-6 years provided that he continues to work hard on his fitness.

Best keeper in the world, and probably the 2nd or 3rd best keeper-batsman. The only thing I'll ever appreciate from Misbah's tenure as chief selector is replacing Sarfraz with Rizwan

Absolutely gutted with the way he got himself run out. Looked set for his first international test hundred and the fact that Faheem would have provided support from other end he could have scored a daddy hundred. He is really good for our standards but needs to work on his adventurous running.

I think Pakistan should play Rizwan as a specialist batsman in all formats and perhaps draft in Rohail Nazir?
 
Gets stuck in. Fearless and confident in his abilities.

His body language is a of a cricketer who wants to be out there in the middle - not like the body language of some of our other players who look like rabbits caught in the headlights.

A world class keeper and a very good batsmen. The amount of disrespect he gets on PP is shocking, one of the few quality players we have right now and one of the few Pakistan I really like.

They have found new things to focus on now. Like captaincy.

Sarfaraz highest ever score in New Zealand is 44 in tests just incase he reads this
