[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Arshad Nadeem - Pakistan's Javelin Throw star wins the first Gold Medal for Pakistan after 40 years in Paris Olympics 2024

Kudos to all the hard work and effort put by Arshad.
People don’t understand how much effort goes in the background to even reach olympics, let alone win it.

Massive respect to the his craft. Congratulations to him, well deserved. !!

Basit Ali speaking on his YouTube channel:

“Cricket is a team sport, but what Arshad Nadeem has done for this country will take years for Babar Azam to match. Babar plays in a team, whereas Arshad won his gold medal alone,"

"If the Pakistan cricket team wins a gold medal at the 2028 Olympics, then we can compare. But right now, there is no comparison between Babar and Arshad Nadeem. Arshad is the hero of the moment,"

Arshad Nadeem to be awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz

President Asif Ali Zardari has directed that javelin star Arshad Nadeem be awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz — the second-highest award given by the Government of Pakistan — for his record-breaking performance in the Paris Olympics 2024.

The president will confer the civilian award to Nadeem in a special ceremony, recognising his distinguished services in the field of sports, a statement from the Aiwan-e-Sadr said Saturday.

Following the president's directive, the Aiwan-e-Sadr has sent a letter to the Cabinet Division, requesting the award for the athlete.

The letter highlights Nadeem's exceptional performance, which has brought great pride to the nation. His remarkable achievements on the global stage have become a source of national pride, as he has significantly elevated Pakistan's status in the field of athletics.

The president will bestow the civilian award on Nadeem under Article 259(2) of the Constitution, which allows the President to honour citizens for their valuable contributions across various fields.

Nadeem won the Olympic men’s javelin title in Paris on Thursday, beating defending champion Neeraj Chopra of India to secure Pakistan's first individual medal at a Summer Games.

The six-feet-three-inch-tall Nadeem made the country proud by hurling the javelin to 92.97 metres, improving the Olympic record by over 2.50 metres, and forcing the packed-to-capacity crowd to give him a standing ovation.

Before Arshad’s remarkable victory, Pakistan had never won an individual gold medal at the Olympics.

All of Pakistan’s previous three gold medals came in field hockey, with their team winning gold in 1960, 1968, and 1984.

Prior to Thursday, only two Pakistan athletes had won individual medals of any colour — with a wrestling bronze in 1960 and a boxing bronze in 1988.

Since the 1992 Barcelona Games, Pakistan has not won a medal of any kind.

Speaking exclusively to Geo News, Pakistani ace javelin thrower said: “It was my day. I could have thrown at a greater distance.”

This outstanding achievement has elevated Pakistan’s status on the global sports stage.

The 27-year-old will be returning to his hometown, Lahore, via Istanbul at night when the clock marks 1am on Sunday.

Nadeem’s hometown, Khanewal, is very excited to celebrate his triumph in grand style.

KPC to award life membership to Arshad Nadeem

The Karachi Press Club (KPC) has decided to bestow life membership upon Pakistan’s leading javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem in recognition of his historic achievement of clinching gold medal in the Olympics.

KPC Secretary Shoaib Ahmed said this in an announcement on Friday. He said Nadeem’s triumph was a watershed moment for the Pakistani sports.

"He has placed our nation on the global sporting map. The life membership is a small token of our appreciation for his immense contribution,” said Ahmed.

Nadeem landed the country's first gold medal since 1984 and the first of any colour since 1992, beating defending champion and Indian rival Neeraj Chopra into second in the javelin. The 27-year-old’s throw of 92.97m was also an Olympic record.

KPC President Saeed Sarbazi said the international athlete was a national hero whose extraordinary feat had inspired millions of Pakistanis.

"His victory is a testament to the indomitable spirit of our nation and its athletes. The KPC is proud to honour such a remarkable individual," he said.

The governing body of the KPC unanimously decided to confer the club's "highest honour" on Nadeem, who broke the Olympic record in men’s javelin to become the first Pakistani to win individual gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics, a press release said.

The life membership will be formally granted to Nadeem at a ceremony at the KPC soon, details of which will be announced later, the press release said.

Nadeem joins a distinguished list of sports icons, including cricketers Imran Khan and Javed Miandad, squash legend Jahangir Khan, and former Pakistan cricket captain Sarfraz Ahmed, who have been awarded the club’s life membership.

The KPC has also in the past bestowed life membership upon cricket legend Vivian Richard and Darren Sammy for playing a crucial role in reviving international cricket in Pakistan.

This event has also shown that PK and Inds can enjoy success together. No doubt we want our team to win but can still appreciate the other team or guy. What's really helped is the maturity of these 2 guys that pushed each other to become legends. IA the drug tests for both come out clean and we can see the 2 compete at least a couple of times more in the World championship and the next Olympics

Pakistan issues special stamp honouring Olympic hero Arshad Nadeem

The Government of Pakistan issued on Saturday a commemorative stamp on the occasion of Independence Day, celebrating Arshad Nadeem's historic achievement at the Paris Olympics.

The special stamp, titled “Determination and Stability,” pays tribute to Nadeem’s exceptional contribution to the nation and highlights the enduring struggle for Pakistan’s independence.

The stamp features a striking image of Nadeem in mid-throw during the men's javelin event, set against a dark green background. It also incorporates the Minaret of Pakistan, symbolizing the nation's historical and symbolic significance.

Arshad Nadeem, who secured Pakistan’s first-ever individual gold medal at the Olympics, achieved this milestone by surpassing the defending champion, Neeraj Chopra, in the men’s javelin event.

Nadeem’s throw of 92.97 meters not only clinched the gold but also set a new Olympic record, exceeding the previous mark by more than 2.5 meters.

Before Nadeem’s victory, Pakistan had not secured an individual gold medal at the Olympics. The country’s previous gold medals were won in 1960, 1968, and 1984, with individual medals coming from wrestling in 1960 and boxing in 1988. Pakistan had not won any Olympic medals since the 1992 Barcelona Games.

In a statement to the media, Nadeem expressed his elation, saying, “It was my day. I believe I could have thrown even further.” The 27-year-old athlete is set to return to Pakistan via Istanbul, with his arrival in Lahore scheduled for Sunday night.

No withholding tax on Arshad Nadeem’s prize money, FBR clarifies

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has clarified that no withholding tax will be imposed on the prize money awarded to national athlete Arshad Nadeem. The Olympian, hailed as a national hero, will receive full support from the authorities.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, FBR member and spokesperson Bakhtiar Muhammad stated, "There will be no tax on the prize money given to Arshad Nadeem. The income or withholding tax does not apply to such awards."

He explained that under Section 156 of the Income Tax Ordinance, there is no mention of taxes on Olympic rewards.

He further noted that Section 156 only refers to withholding tax on lottery winnings, prize bonds, quizzes, and marketing-related prize schemes by companies.

"Arshad Nadeem is a national hero, and we will extend all possible support to him," Bakhtiar added.

The clarification comes amid rumours that the federal, Punjab, and Sindh governments' announced rewards for Nadeem's outstanding performance would be taxed. The FBR has firmly denied these baseless rumours.

Apart from the highly justified praise on Nadeem, he was also showered with rewards for his outstanding performance. On behalf of the Punjab government, chief minister Maryam Nawaz announced a whopping Rs100 million reward for the javelin ace. In addition to this, the Sindh government will also make the Olympic gold medalist's pockets a little heavier after announcing he is to be given Rs50 million.

In addition, Sindh Governor Tessori announced Rs1 million, and singer Ali Zafar and cricketer Ahmed Shahzad Rs1 million each. Also, Karachi Electric (KE) has decided to contribute Rs2 million for Nadeem, and the World Athletics Federation will give a US$50,000 winning prize.

This is where the country is messed up.

Olympic Champion or not, but whatever prize money he gets needs to be taxed. Being a Olympic Champion does not make anyone above the law.

Dumb stuff as always

A man who could not afford food but wins the gold medal at the greatest sporting event on earth. This is a fantasy coming true in a tournament that the whole world was watching. Better still was the Pak flag flying way higher over the Indian and and our anthem being the only one that was played. This is much bigger then our cricketers having won ICC tournaments in the past make no mistake about this. As if all this wasn't enough Arshad broke the world record as well.

Surely, we have to venture in to other Sports now even if it is at the expense of boring old Cricket a minority Sport. We can excel at Wrestling, Boxing, Shooting, Javelin and weight lifting. Our Punjab is full of strong men who eat a goat every day :ROFLMAO: !. Remember Gama Pehelwan!!. Most Indian's have taken this defeat well other then the likes of Arnab Goswami who see some doping in Arshad's victory:pakflag2

This incredible accomplishment deserves Pak or Hollywood to produce a biopic on it. I rank this much higher then Pak winning the Cricket World Cup in 1992 even if they defeated India in the final. Folks, this is the Olympics..no sporting event gets bigger then this big daddy!. The whole world was watching here not just the cricket obsessed subcontinent. No country from the subcontinent has ever come close to achieving such a things in the past. It was world record throw for heaven sake. Wah jee wah dil khush kar deeya Arshad bhai! It was his humble mother's prayers followed by his hard work that were behind this. No silly pics, sponsors or talking himself up like our pathetic and loser cricketers do. Arshad turned up and killed it.

to make matters worse, some indian staff were also deported from France.

Was a proud moment indeed to see our National Anthem be played and being the only one.

Don't tell me it didn't feel awesome and the best feeling ever seeing Pak defeat India in a major Olympics final. I was lapping up every minute as the Pak flag flew over the Indian one. As Neeraj and all Indian people in the crowd were forced to honour the Pak flag and anthem where as their being the losers was not even played. I have never believed in this bhai-bhai crap with India or two sons being from he same mother. They are our sworn enemies who we have fought wars with that is all that is too it. :pkflag

Basit is so right when saying Arshad had to do it all on his own. In team sports like Cricket you can win even win when off form where as in individual sports in high pressure events like the Olympics you're on your own. No Imran Khan, Lara, Sachin or Kohli sholi can ever come close to this incredible feat. The lad with little facilities was up against the best javelin throwers in the world did the near impossible. Arshad is Pakistani not Asian, he won it for Pakistan not the subcontinent. Indian people in particular need to hear this loud and clear.

As Iqbal said "dil se jo baat nikalti hai asar rakhti hai, par nahi takate parwaaz magar rakhti hai. quds-i-ul-asl hai rifat pe nazar rakhti hai, khaak se uthti hai gardun pe guzar rakhti hai.

Success has many fathers, everybody in Pakistan claiming his part in Arshad's success, only QFE has not issued any statement

This guy has earned this respect and the historic welcome.

Here he thanks the PM of his country. Is it genuine or was he compelled to do it?

Even if there is no direct pressure applied, there is always an indirect implication that athletes need to give credit to the leaders for their own political benefits. The athlete has nothing to lose from this so they play along

'Arshad Nadeem also our child': Neeraj's mother wins hearts after Olympic final

In a moment that transcended borders and rivalry, Neeraj Chopra's mother, Saroj Devi, captured the hearts of fans across the border with her touching remarks about Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who defeated her son to win the Gold medal in the Olympic men's javelin final. Despite Neeraj Chopra, the defending champion from India, securing a silver medal, his mother expressed immense pride and warmth towards Arshad Nadeem, the gold medallist from Pakistan.

"We are happy with the silver. The one who got the gold (Arshad Nadeem) is also my child," Saroj Devi said, her words resonating with a sense of sportsmanship and shared humanity that often transcends the fierce competition on the field.

Neeraj's mother's remarks have been widely praised by Indian and Pakistani fans for their warmth and sportsmanship, offering a powerful reminder of the dedication and perseverance that define Olympic athletes.

That's how champions behave

Arshad Nadeem to perform umrah

The Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) has announced that javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem and his family will be performing umrah.

Chairman of the AFP, Major General (R) Muhammad Akram Sahi, made the announcement during a press conference. He expressed immense pride in Nadeem’s achievement, stating that it fulfilled a long-standing goal of the federation.

Sahi emphasised the dedication and hard work of Nadeem, highlighting the athlete’s resilience and determination. He also praised the nation’s support for Nadeem, stating that the overwhelming welcome he received upon returning home was a testament to the country’s pride in its sports heroes.

The chairman concluded by asserting that Nadeem’s victory has silenced critics of athletics in Pakistan and proven that with dedication and support, great achievements can be attained.

'Javelin diplomacy can work for Pak-India

Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem and India's Neeraj Chopra's first and second finishes at the Paris Olympics javelin throw event open up endless possibilities for improving diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The Pakistani Ambassador H.E Asim Iftikhar Ahmad hosted the Mian Chunnu-based athlete at the Paris Embassy on Friday after he received his gold medal at the medal ceremony at Stade de France for creating a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 on Thursday night.

The ambassador believes an environment of camaraderie and peace is created by the close bonding of Arshad and Neeraj which can be instrumental in improving relations between India and Pakistan.

He talked to this correspondent after the dinner and celebratory ceremony where Arshad generously gave his time to the Pakistani community that showed up for him at the embassy.

Mr Asim spoke to the media and later made a point to have selfies and pictures with the fans who were ecstatic to see him in person.

A poem was also recited in Arshad's honour and in praise of his parents.

"First of all, yes it is a historic occasion so I am lucky as an ambassador to be here at this moment, and so is everyone who has been here," he said while exclusively talking to this correspondent about the possibility of javelin-diplomacy now after the long era of cricket-diplomacy.

"These were historic games which also marked 100 year centenary of the Paris Olympics, and for Pakistan particularly," said the ambassador.

"Forty years since the last gold medal, 32 since the previous medal, the first Olympic medal as an individual, the new javelin Olympic record and so much more. So well and truly history has been made and we are witness to this and are very happy."

Referring to the Arshad-Neeraj camaraderie, the Pakistani ambassador said he was asked this question about Arshad's relationship and sporting rivalry with Neeraj in the India-Pakistan context.

"We know what Arshad has been saying earlier, that they are friends and brothers and even their great mothers are saying the same heart-warming things which is great to see and people are massively relating to it."

So what are the possibilities of using this bonding to promote diplomacy?

"I'm not going to venture into that because there are so many other factors involved in that, but at least this environment is created by these two brilliant athletes who are not only fierce competitors but they have a very good relationship," said H.E Asim Iftikhar.

"Both the athletes are hoping that their friendship transcends the barriers, so it is good in that sense.

And I think there is a whole lot of hope that is generated because these feelings, goodwill go beyond the javelin events and the competitions. So let's see how it works."

Mr Asim also reflected on the spirit of the Olympic Games and observed that people from both sides of India-Pakistan border have been cheering for both Arshad and Neeraj.

He also spoke about the Olympic Games going a long way in uplifting Paris as a city. "The Olympic Athletes Village has been built in an underprivileged area and the measures taken to make the Games environmentally sustainable are amazing."

Later, Arshad Nadeem, his coach Salman Butt, Pakistan Olympic Association President, Chef de Mission, sprinter Faiqa Riaz, and left the venue in order to prepare for the departure from Paris early in the morning.

The ambassador was pictured with Arshad at the airport.

The night has been most valuable for the children and youth at the event. They seemed to be very receptive to Arshad's feat and felt that for Pakistanis everywhere it was a huge moment.

Arshad Nadeem’s father-in-law announces to gift him a buffalo

Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem’s father-in-law has decided to gift a buffalo as a gift to the javelian star.

Nadeem won the javelin throw event in Paris with an Olympic Games record of 92.97 metres, pushing India’s Neeraj Chopra to second spot.

Muhammad Nawaz told the local media in Nadeem’s village on Sunday that gifting a buffalo is considered “very valuable” and “honourable” in their village.

The father-in-law added that he had four sons and three daughters, and his youngest daughter, Ayesha, was married to Nadeem.

Nawaz added that he was very happy with Nadeem’s success and fame, adding that the javelin thrower, who became the first individual medallist from the country, was very respectful towards everyone.

“Whenever he comes to our house he never complains about anything and eats whatever is there at our home,” he said.

Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, who made history by setting a world record in Javelin throw at the Paris Olympics 2024, returned to homeland with a hero’s welcome.

As his airplane touched down Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, it was honored with a traditional water cannon salute.

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, Punjab Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar, PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafiq and Chairman of the PM Youth Program Rana Mashhood Ahmed were among the dignitaries who welcomed the national hero at the airport.

Toyota has announced that it will present Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem with a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Electric as a gesture of appreciation for his remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics 2024.

I hope Arshad Bhai has some sensible advisors around him. A lot of leeches will target him to try and take his cash

Why Did Arshad Nadeem Leave Cricket For Javelin Throw? His Brother Reveals Reason

Arshad Nadeem scripted history by becoming the first athlete from Pakistan to win an individual Olympic gold medal after he clinched the top honour in men's javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Arshad stunned everyone as he came up with a mammoth 92.97m throw to break the Olympic record and finish ahead of Neeraj Chopra whose season best throw of 89.45m earned him a sliver. While Arshad has established himself as a star in athletics, he wanted to be a cricketer while growing up. However, he had to give up his dream and his brother Shahid explained the reason behind his decision.

“We are a family of nine – five brothers, two sisters and our parents. Our father is a construction worker and he was the sole breadwinner of the family. Cricket is an expensive sport and we couldn't afford it,” Shahid explained in an interaction with Revsportz.

“I used to do it in school and that attracted him to the sport,” Shahid recounted. “Initially, he used to participate in everything – 200m, 400m, long jump, javelin… Then, a teacher in our school told Nadeem to concentrate on one particular discipline. He chose javelin,” he added.

Pakistan will honour the ace athlete Arshad Nadeem with Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second highest award of the country, for his stupendous feat at the Paris Olympics 2024.

The government also directed for a commemorative stamp titled ‘Azm-e-Istehkam' (commitment to stability) to be issued on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day next week.

The 27-year-old broke the Olympic record of 90.57 m set at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. It is the first individual gold in 40 years for the country.

Following the directive by President Asif Ali Zardari, his office sent a letter to the Cabinet Division for the formal conferment of the award, according to state media. "Arshad Nadeem's remarkable performance has made the nation proud on the global stage. His outstanding success in athletics is a source of pride for the country," President Zardari stated in his letter.

Punjab CM Maryam visits Arshad Nadeem, hands him Rs100m reward for Olympic win

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday visited javelin star Arshad Nadeem in his hometown of Mian Channu and awarded him a cheque worth Rs100 million for his Olympic gold medal.

Arshad made history in Paris last week, not only winning Pakistan’s first Olympic gold in 40 years but also setting a record in the Games with his monstrous 92.97-metre throw.

Arshad’s Olympic win was Pakistan’s first individual gold medal, first track and field medal as well as the second time a South Asian has had a podium finish in track and field.

The nation has since then been joyous — with the athlete arriving to a hero’s welcome back at his hometown Mian Channu and government leaders announcing the Hilal-i-Imtiaz award and cash prizes worth more than Rs155m for him.

CM Maryam arrived in Mian Channu via a helicopter today to visit Arshad at his home, she was greeted by the javelin star and his family.

Such a good hearted lady. Well done!

Federal Minister for Information, Attaullah Tarar, announced that Arshad Nadeem, who recently secured a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, has been invited as the chief guest at Independence Day ceremony on Wednesday

Nadeem will join Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the flag-hoisting ceremony, an honour bestowed upon him following his remarkable victory, which has ignited celebrations across the country.

In a press conference, Tarar expressed that "good news is coming from all directions", highlighting the nationwide jubilation over Nadeem's Olympic triumph.

He said that provincial governments, including Punjab, are actively participating in the celebrations.

"Arshad Nadeem was welcomed in an extraordinary manner; his plane was given a water cannon salute," Tarar noted.

The minister informed that Nadeem is scheduled to arrive at Islamabad’s Nur Khan Airbase at 5pm via a special Pakistan Air Force aircraft and will be escorted with full state protocol.

The Prime Minister's House has organized a banquet in honour of Arshad Nadeem, whom Tarar described as "a beacon of inspiration for the youth."

He added, "Nadeem’s journey from Mian Channu to Paris is a unique story that deserves to be captured in a biographical film."

The minister also commended Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for personally visiting Nadeem's home to bestow honours upon him, calling it "a commendable gesture."

Discussing the Independence Day celebrations, Tarar revealed that a major event is planned in Islamabad's F-9 Park, organised under the directives of PM Shehbaz.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will host Pakistan's first drone show, featuring 500 drones.

"This event will be non-political, focusing solely on the national flag and promoting patriotism," he emphasized.

New visa policy

The information minister also announced the launch of a new visa policy, simplifying the process for visitors from 126 countries.

He explained, "The visa fee for these countries has been abolished, and the application process has been made significantly easier."

He detailed that a simple form with 30 questions will allow applicants to quickly obtain a 90-day visa.

He further stated, "Gulf country residents will also be able to obtain a visa on arrival with just a passport."

Regarding tourism, Tarar assured that security for incoming tourists is a top priority, with the Ministry of Interior coordinating closely with provincial governments to ensure the best possible arrangements.

He highlighted, "The tourism sector, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan, has seen significant development," and reiterated the government's commitment to providing quality and affordable accommodation for visitors.

The minister concluded by expressing his hope that these initiatives would open Pakistan's doors to the world, showcasing the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

"Allah has blessed our country with every possible resource, and we want the world to come and see it," he said.

not really.
The govt isnt tryin to clear its image. Its just that Pakistan hasnt won anything in the recent years that the Govt is offcourse trying to bring the patriotism out of people by promoting Arshad.

And Arshad seems to be a shareef guy and is taking it in.

Good to see Arshad getting so much limelight and attention finally, let's not make turn it into a political battle.

Basit Ali speaking on his YouTube channel:

Cricket is a team sport, but what Arshad Nadeem has done for this country will take years for Babar Azam to match.

As if Babar is some kind of Lone performer of the side who is ATG while being let down by rest of the members of his side. Infact , he is the Stat Padder who only excels against low quality opposition and has turned Pakistan into a team of minnows. Pakistan is in its lowest phase ever thanks to Babar Azam.

What Arshad has achieved with much less facilities is unmatched, can't even be compared.

The crooks parading as Pm, presidents & others don’t care for Pakistan or ashraf . He is being used to further their political ambitions ie loot more . They realise his star power & I doubt all of these awards will reach him .

You can’t blame arshad but he needs to be careful around the biggest criminals in Pakistan

Are you sure about not clearing its image. It's hijacked the poor guy. But nothing will change because in a few weeks it will be forgotten and they will still be the crooks that destroyed every institution

As Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan would have likely invited Arshad to his office for congratulations and photo opportunities. It is improbable that he would have visited Arshad’s residence with an entourage.

Moreover, while Imran Khan might have held the medal himself, it is unlikely that he would have mimicked an Olympic official by personally placing the medal on Arshad.

Tendulkar is a pathetic human being. Guy proved it during the champions trophy..

Like out of no where, he makes a tweet about hockey. Like it was such a cringe moment that even indians felt embarrassed, like come on, how low you can go.

Anyways, he is human after all, and like all humans he has flaws. This is why indians that call Tendulkar a demi God need to come out of it.

Maybe its the lack of education that build his flaw character
