[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Arshad Nadeem - Pakistan's Javelin Throw star wins the first Gold Medal for Pakistan after 40 years in Paris Olympics 2024

Congrats for winning a gold but Javelin throw itself the most useless and uninteresting sports in Olympics

Which sports/events are more useful & interesting to you ?

Javelin or throwing a stick far is an ancient sport & very technical. To throw over 90m is like running 100m under 10 seconds, only a small % of competitors can achieve this . Javelin is one of the hardest techniques to get right , hence why the world record may still be held in 50 years time .

Athletics are the main Olympic events , most watched & most competitive. To have a javelin Olympic record holder is far superior than any non athletic event & one of the top field events. Therefore Arshad is an Olympic legend !!

Probably the only Pakistani right now who can walk into India with credibility and be loved by them too.
What is this supposed to mean? In Pakistan and India everyone know eachother's athletes. The most important thing is he won the gold medal and he is praised a lot in whole World.

Won the gold in style . Congrats to him & his family . Well done to chopra sliver to go along with his own gold .

On top of his gold medal the PLMN government has also awarded him an iPhone 15
They will be keeping the Winners bounty amongst themselves. Its their reward.
I hope Arshad wont have to declare the medal in Toshakhana

Please do not make this thread a political battleground. No more political references in this thread.

It means that a lot of these Pakistani superstar wannabes are actually not as big as they think they are. The only legit Pakistanis that have respect, admiration and love in India are extremely rare. Nadeem for sure will be an Icon now and hopefully a major reason for the resumption of cordial bilateral sporting ties between India and Pakistan. His sporting rivalry with Neeraj is iconic! The rivalry of our lifetime.

And completely agree, Arshad is a genuine superstar, no amount of dolla can pump up the other’s superficial efforts, but Arshad is the true global star now.

its easy sitting in the UK speculating what’s best for the people of Pakistan isn’t it?
Thanks to the Almighty, he didn’t stop Arshad Nadeem from going all the way to the top.

think about it bro, how many potential superstars have been lost in the system though? Nadeem was already on his way by then but what about the massive crop of Athletes that may have been set back?

Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem is set to receive a gold medal tonight in a ceremony that will take place at the Athletics Stadium in Paris at 10pm PST, on Friday.

‘It was unbelievable,’ coach Salman Butt on Arshad Nadeem’s Olympic record throw

Salman Butt, the coach of Pakistan’s Olympic hero Arshad Nadeem, told Dawn.com on Friday that the athlete’s monstrous 92.97m throw in the javelin final was “unbelievable.”

Nadeem’s throw also shattered the previous Olympic record of 90.57m, set by the Netherlands’ Andreas Thorkildsen at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

“I knew he had a big throw, but that was really surprising,” Butt chuckled.

“It’s like that guy said, this was ‘out of syllabus’,” an amused Butt told Dawn.com on Friday.

Tokyo 2020 gold medallist, India’s Neeraj Chopra, took home silver with an 89.45m throw on his second attempt, the only viable throw of the night among five foul throws.

Grenada’s Anderson Peters took home bronze and his first Olympic medal with an 88.54m throw.

Nadeem’s throw was historic across the board. It was Pakistan’s first ever individual gold medal, the first gold medal in 40 year and first Olympic medal in 32 years. He also became the first Pakistani to win a medal in Athletics, and the first Pakistani to hold an Olympic record.

The journey to Olympic glory was preceded by a tiring 72 hours, Butt said. It began with Tuesday’s qualifier round where Nadeem threw a season’s best throw of 86.59m to head into Thursday night’s final as fourth seed.

As his coach and manager in Paris, “we have technical things to take care of.

“We need to attend to his injury spot, correspond with his doctor, repeatedly administer massages, then relax his body,” Butt explained.

“Then we have to work on his strength, his speed.”

Butt had high praise for the accommodation he and Nadeem have been given in Paris at the Athletes Village.

“It’s a clean, pristine environment. These were good arrangements as far as Paris is concerned,” Butt said. “No complaints, all praise actually.”

Lol why would you need admiration of india? Arshad is a global superstar he does not praise from Indians.

He made olympics record which earned him the global superstar status.

He threw 2 90 metres plus throws which is no joke. Nobody has ever done that in olympics before.

I have nothing against India or Indians. But people should get over this minnow mentality of keeping Indians happy. This is sports and a healthy rivalary, nothing personal. Arshad is a World Star now, he completely destroyed everyone and you could see all the throwers were nervous after his humongous close to 93 metres throw.

Next time maybe Neeraj or someone else win, but that is part of the game, now we should just stay humble and enjoy the victory.

I know our current cricket players are mediocre, but we have had some real beasts in the game before and with better set-up, facilities and priorities we will get more in future in sha Allah.

Olympics can have fastest bowler along with the biggest six hitter competitions if the full game of cricket is far reach.

I agree with him.

They infact tested Arshad yesterday and his results were here this morning

Arshad Nadeem's dope test results are in:

10% cow beef (banned but too good to pass up),
20% biryani (spicier than certain debates),
30% pure hard work,
40% talent that could make anyone envious.

Looks like the only thing that needs testing is why some folks can’t digest Pakistan’s gold-medal victories!

I believe in terms of cash only. He is over $500K from the announcements I have seen on X.

There were a couple apartments announced as well.

I just hope that the money actually reaches him and not a lot of these folks are doing it for PR. Also I pray that the right person connects with him in facilitating the diversification and management of the money / assets.

This should be done by businesses and business people.

naaa, govt always have funds. So dont really mind if they give it to a winner.

Alot of these funds eventually end up in the pockets on construction contractors anyway for different projects.

The guy has achieved a very big achivement, he deserves every cash prize.

Btw, because of what Arshad Nadeem did, Adidas decided to sponsor the Pakistani olympic team . They signed a deal at night after the javelin event or the next day morning.

They night he won the gold, he was wearing a kit that was sponsored by some local company called Nayza. His gold got the Pakistan olympic team an adidas sponsor. Next day for the medal ceremony he got a new kit with the adidas logo.

Seems like government did release a grant for Arshad but the question is, did he receive those funds??
