[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Arshad Nadeem - Pakistan's Javelin Throw star wins the first Gold Medal for Pakistan after 40 years in Paris Olympics 2024

Good luck to him for today's Olympic Javelin throw event.

The only guy who can end the Olympics medal drought of Pakistan.

If throws around his personal best (90 meters), then the chances of him getting a medal are pretty much secured. It would take some next level event for a player to throw at around 90 meters mark and not end up with a medal.

Genuinely wishing him the best. He’s the nicest Pakistani. Zero arrogance, doesn’t walk around pretending to be a poster boy for Islamists, doesn’t talk bad about Bharat, has friendship with Neeraj Chopra.

I hope he wins, the silver.

Absolutely, my favorite Pakistani since Wasim Akram. I hope a medal doesn't change him and he stays as humble and likeable.

He’s a natural beast.
It’s a pity he hasn’t beaten Neeraj Chopra in big events yet. He lets the pressure get to him a bit. For him it’s just a matter of unlocking his real potential.

I always maintained, Nadeem has the natural gift to be a much better thrower.

Neeraj Chopra is just a playa. He is an absolute superstar, despite his small stature he’s achieved all this through extreme determination. He’s ice in his veins. He’s him.

Absolutely. Just now Neeraj did a 89 meter throw. All technique stuff you could see in it.

Arshad on the other hand with a bit less did a 86 meter throw.

Both qualified for the Final round.

Yup just like what I said.
Neeraj Chopra is an absolute baller.

All technique and ability to rise to the occasion.

Otherwise just look at Nadeem. His height, his arms, the natural power he generates. That guy is terrifying. He should be in the WWR if this doesn’t work out.

Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali congratulated star Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem for qualifying for the final of the Paris Olympics Men’s Javelin Throw, he said:

“As you all know Arshad Nadeem has qualified for the Paris Olympics’ Javelin Throw Final. As per our expectations, he performed really well,”

“We hope and pray that he will perform even better in the finals and will win the gold medal for Pakistan,”

“Whatever happens in the final Arshad Nadeem, we are proud of you,”

‘It’s what got me here’: Arshad Nadeem seeks nation’s prayers for Olympics javelin final

Speaking to Dawn.com from Paris, javelin superstar Arshad Nadeem had a message for the nation on Wednesday morning: “Thank you for your prayers, and please continue praying for my success in the final.”

A day earlier, the 27-year-old cruised into Thursday night’s final with a solid 86.59m throw at the Stade de France, his first and only attempt of the qualifier round, which was also his season’s best.

Assalamo alaikum, Allah has blessed me with a lot of honour, thanks to your prayers,” he said in a video message sent to Dawn.com.

“I have qualified for the [javelin] finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics; this is the result of your prayers,” he said.

“I’m ecstatic that with the help of your prayers, I qualified for the final in my first throw only,” Nadeem said, now Pakistan’s sole medal-winning chance as the last athlete to compete in Paris. “Please continue praying for me.”

The final will be on Thursday, August 8 at 11:25pm PST.

“Please continue praying for me so I can perform my best and win a medal for Pakistan.”

Olympic javelin qualifier

Like Nadeem, several of his rivals made it to the final with a lone attempt.

Reigning Olympic and world champion India’s Neeraj Chopra led the field with a massive 89.34m throw, also a season best.

Sandwiched between the two South Asians were Grenada’s Anderson Peters in third place (88.63m), and reigning European Champion Julian Weber in fourth with a 87.76m.

Kenya’s Rio 2016 silver medalist sealed a fifth place ranking in the final after an 85.97m throw in his third attempt, which was also a season best.

Brazil’s Luiz Maurício da Silva was having a field day as he threw a personal best and broke the South American record with an 85.91m throw to land in sixth place.

Czech powerhouse Jakub Vadlejch ranks seventh in the field with an 85.63m lone throw, which stands a fair bit off from his season best 88.65m.

Finland’s Toni Keranen got off to a flying start at his Olympic debut as his 85.27m throw doubled as a personal and season best to rank him eighth.

Yet another season best was achieved as Andrian Mardare of the Republic of Moldova threw an 84.13m to place him ninth heading into the final.

What time is the final ?

Good luck to him , incredible athlete.

He really needs to give it his all. Nadeem 3m behind Neeraj’s throw to qualify for the final. We don’t know if he is saving his best for the final but it’s going to take a hell of an effort to achieve a medal

Achieving a medal is not soo difficult for him but he is aiming for gold, for that he has to throw his best, which is 90+

Former Olympic medalists extend support to Arshad Nadeem ahead of final

As Arshad Nadeem gears up to clinch Gold at the ongoing Paris Olympics today, former Olympians who won Olympic medals for Pakistan 32 years ago extended their support to the athlete.

Former celebrated hockey players, Qamar Ibrahim and Tahir Zaman — both of whom participated in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics — had won bronze in their mega sporting event on this very day.

On this day in 1992, Pakistan's national hockey team climbed the Olympic podium for the last time, clinching a bronze medal by defeating the Netherlands 4-3 at the Barcelona Olympics.

Today, 32 years have passed since that memorable day — a total of 11,689 days and around 1,670 weeks.

Both Ibrahim and Zaman wished well for the javelin thrower, throwing weight behind the 27-year-old.

Nadeem, one of the seven athletes and the only one in the medal race as others are now out of their respective events, qualified for the final round after launching a massive throw exceeding the 84-metre minimum qualifying mark.

The final of the Javelin Throw event will be played today at 11:25pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST).

"Arshad Nadeem is today's hero, all our prayers are with him. One of your throws will change your life today," said Ibrahim in a video extending support to the finalist.

The former Olympian added that Nadeem is capable of making history today. "Don't leave anything behind, the rest is in the hands of Allah. We sincerely hope you win a medal."

Sharing about his own win, as part of Pakistan's hockey team victory, Ibrahim said: "Thirty-two years ago today, on this date, we won the medal."

He added that no one has brought home an Olympic medal after that win three decades ago.

"If you win a medal today then we will celebrate medal day on August 8," he said.

Ibrahim's fellow Olympian, Tahir Zaman, also sent a motivating message for the athlete, stating that he believes Nadeem will perform his best today.

"There is full hope that Arshad Nadeem will make the nation proud with a good throw," said Zaman, adding that

The ex-Olympian said the nation's children, elders, mothers and sisters — everyone is praying for Arshad.

Gold is confirmed, that is an olympic record throw.

No one else in the fray can throw above 91.

Congrats Nadeem and team.

You know what this means.

Pakistan above us in the medal table lol
So what, nadeem deserved it. He is a self made man. Pak govt did very little for him. They will get a medal after 32 years.

Hockey, wrestling, boxing all should get more funding from govt now

He is thowing well, even second throw was a good one.

Lol neeraj chopra. Hahahah he is trying his best but arshad just broke 1 billion people's heart.
